Good looking truck Don. Love all your videos, especially your tool reviews. Thanks to you, I purchased three Vamplier tools, two pliers & the small shears..
Congratulations on your acquisition of that great truck. May she give you many years of reliable service!
I'm a big fan of your channel, and very much appreciate your excellent instructions on maintaining and repairing small engines. You are doing a great service for the average guy & gal who wants to develop a bit of self-sufficiency when it comes to owning and operating basic household machines. Thanks to you, I now approach most small engine chores with greater confidence. We need more good folks like you.
Wishing you the very best in all you undertake.
Hey man I bought a 05 Colorado crew cab 4x4 Z71 3.5L a few months ago. fully loaded (leather seats sunroof etc) Love my truck. Thanks for showing yours.
Hi Don,
I am happy to see that you have good transportation for getting around in winter and that the vehicle will be helpful for your role as a caregiver for your wife. Good things come to good people!
Changed my thermostat at 80k miles. Love my little Colorado.
Great truck--I own a 2010 model with the 5.3L V8. I've had minimal problems at 87,000 miles in the 3 years I've owned it.
my man....you voice is so calm. nice review, thanks man, im looking for one
That color is just the best they made for the Colorado. I have a white one 4x4 with the same back rack but it’s an extended cab as well. Which is cramped for more then 3 though it sits 5.
Our 2006 Canyon has 172,000 miles on it now and has never let us down.It has been very good to us and have owned it since new.I changed the factory oil in the 3.5L at 1200 miles to Mobil One EP 5-30 and use their oil filter as well. This oil and oil filter are good for 15,000.But I change it when the truck says to.Around 10,000 to 12,000 miles.
Nice looking motor, hope it gives you lot,s of happy miles and smiles.
Nice looking truck, nice video, and great channel you have. And remember, there's no feeling like four wheeling !!!
Great ride, glad to see one of the good guys get a nice truck.
I have the 2011 version of this truck and have had it for 12+ years. I love the five-cylinder engine.
This is a cool little truck. Does a little bit of everything. The body and styling is nice on these. I would drive one for sure. Nifty 5-cylinder motor in it, that's kind of cool. 5-cylinders sound great.
It's in good shape for the year. Hope you have good luck with it!
nice truck don. good choice. i got an 02 s10 & ive had it five years and live it.
I wanted to buy a 2015 but they were out of my price range. I got a 2011 & I love it.
It is much the same as yours, without the crew cab. I always wanted a 4x4 & with helping the Scouts it has made a big difference.
+Eric Simkins I think you have the same engine I have, a 3.7. your wheels might be bigger, mine are 15"
I purchased a 2007 Colorado a few days ago. I had watched your video about a mouth ago. You have a lot of good info. Ray
I just purchased a 2004 Colorado a week ago. It was great until it rained. The third brake light is leaking into the cab in the back and water is flooding the drivers side mat also. After doing some research these are common problems for this truck. Any leaks for you?
I just purchased a 2007 2 months ago and I love my truck.
Previous owner took good care of this..nice looking.
Sweet truck!
I have a 2010 Colorado LT1 ext cab 4x4 with the 5.3 V8 that I purchased in May 2014. I love it, despite the shitty reviews that most "experts" gave it. Tons of power, tows my snowmobiles, 4 wheelers and other toys without a problem. Bought it with 45,000 miles on the clock...probably paid too much for it but the V8 jacked the price. It has the heated leather seats which are nice in the winter.
+sldl04 must be powerful with that v-8!
+donyboy73
It's very powerful. GM didn't produce a lot of the V8 models I've been told because it was an expensive option when sold new, which makes the model somewhat rare. Various performance tests clocked the V8 Colorado 0-60 around 6.75 sec. It's almost like driving a muscle car, rather than a truck. The only thing that holds it back is the 4-speed transmission--the new 2015 models come with a 6-speed. I didn't plan on buying a V8 model--I only knew that I wanted a Colorado, and it's what the dealership found for me (out of state purchase).
sldl04 how much did you pay for it?
I got an 05, not a 4×4, has Z71 suspension. It's at 95000 miles. Recently had it fully serviced, new tires & suspension bumpers. It loves to cruise. Sweet ride. Gets compliments alot. I'll hang on to it, cuz the new ones are like 45 grand, ouch.
Congratulations on the new ride! Nice looking truck. I like the colour.
Mine are 15" as well, & I should say that I have the ext. cab not a crew cab....but either way it is the best truck I have had without a high price tag & a truck that is to good to take into the woods.
Sick truck I got a 2001 Tacoma and looks new still single cab. I’ve never owned just a car. Always owned a pickup truck. Toyota gave me 3 recalls on it already since I bought it in 2008 with 32,000 miles. A new frame, ball joint recall, spare tire holder recall
I got a 2005 Chevy Colorado and it is a very good truck I'll had a accident let me know all the stuff on the driver side in the door has got over 250 thousand miles on it it runs just as good as it did well I bought it hell I'm looking for about a 2010 model to buy four-wheel drive and it will be a Colorado
My family owns a Hummer H3 with the same engine since purchased new in 2006 and its a great vehicle! We haven't had any engine problems but we have had the AC blower Resistor go out. Its an extremely common part to go out on any GM vehicle of around that year. the part is cheap though and its easy to change!
whats the price range for the blower resistor i think it went out a few months ago trying to pinpoint what it could be but i think it is
Nice looking truck congratulations on finding it.
They are great trucks. I'm surprised you have had it under coated yet. The Gm brake lines rust up pretty bad if not oiled. I use rust check coat and protect the green top from Canadian tire, on sale this week I think. My lines on my 2002 are like new since I started using the rust check. You can get the whole underbody sprayed by rust check using the same spray for $100 , well worth it.
Steve Rob thanks I will do that
+Steve Rob
I had mine rustproofed before I ever bought it. Definitely need it where I live (Northern NY)...they love the salt around here.
Write english you dump
These are good trucks Don, we don't see many of them come through the shop. I do 100% agree with the others on the bed liner comments. I have seen tons of beds rotted out due to those. They trap water and dirt. I imagine up there in Canada they also use a lot of salt or Calcium Chloride on the roads. Your best bet is to pull that liner and apply bed liner or " Rhino Liner" to it. I buy the gallon cans from Home Depot and roll it on. You can do most truck beds for under $100. And Bless You for taking care of your wife.
Cool truck! Looks like it's been taken care of.
I agree about the plastic bedliner, had that in my first Toyota PU, and it did a number on the bed.. When i got my 2005 Toyota PU had the bed Linexed, and no complaints.
Hope you had better luck. I bought a similar one with 48,000 miles (77000 kilometers). Had to replace cylinder head and also various electrical problems ensued. It took time and considerable dollars to get it sorted out.
I got it today 15/2/2022 I loved it very much practical but can you tell me how many kilos of oil I put to the engine
You can fit a nice power inverter behind the seat. I got one mounted years ago still works great
Great buy Don, nice looking truck.
I found a 2006 Chevy Colorado ls for $1600 with only 56k miles on it. I will be hopefully looking at it tomorrow. This might be my first vehicle.
nice truck ! like the look of the front end, its different. & inline engines do work well, i had a few. enjoy.
Hi, great looking truck everyone I know loves that five cyl.
That's really nice Don! Love the color!!
***** thanks
I purchased a 06 Colorado 4x4 with 221,000km's on it a few weeks ago. I had to put some work into it but it seems like a pretty solid truck so far.
So,after 1 year what do you think of it ?
Good luck with it!
nice little truck ! I have a 95 isuzu pu and a 96 GMC sierra xcab. I actually like the little pickup a lot and is easy to load/unload and great fuel economy. not as nice as yours but has great AC as well (And I live in AR, USA--it gets hott!) , so I just can't get rid of it.
Thanks for the video
My grandpa has had his since it was new and it runs great
Best interview
Nice truck! Good luck with it.
Great looking truck-exterior looks brand new!
***** yeah not bad for an 8 year old truck
***** Only 50,000 miles after 8 years? Didn't the previous owner drive it anywhere! ;-) Great fine.
Very nice truck Don!
gosh Don I wash looking at one last fall. Still driving the 98 Silverado
Very nice truck, Don!
I have a 2006 Colorado, original owner, just turned over 60,000 miles yesterday. Solid truck all around, only problem I persistently have is with the pass lock security system not allowing my key to start the truck... Other than that I see it serving me for many more years to come.
azazfilms I WONDER WHAT CAUSES THAT, I Haven't had that problem
+azazfilms
I've had the same problem with my Colorado.
+sldl04 do you know what the problem was?
I believe it has something to do with the ignition cylinder wearing down to the point that it has trouble reading the key and makes the truck think it trying to be stolen, so it shuts off the fuel pump and will not send fuel to the engine for 10 minutes.
Cool truck I have a 2008 canyon the only problem I had with it was it had a crack in the manifold that was it still going strong hundred and sixty thousand miles
Get it undercoated every year, the rockers rot out on them like crazy! Other than that, I hear they're pretty tough little trucks Kind of a nice mid point between the economy of a car and the usefulness of a truck.
Colin Keevil thanks
Another great video
Hey man thanks for the review. I am looking at buying a midsize crew cab truck, and this really gives me a lot of information about the Chevrolet/GMC trucks I was looking at.
+Joseph Payne I've had it for a year, been good
I tend to like smaller trucks also.
@@jas350 that's out of no where.... he just made a comment lol
A coworker of mine has a Canyon and it's been a good truck with the exception of when it came time to do the front brakes. Apparently the rotors are bolted behind the hub, so in order to change the rotors for any reason, you need to pull the hubs which can be a major operation especially if they use salt on the roads.
Cheezy Dee yes they are
I have seen fuel regulators leak on some , but that is a easy , cheap fix if ever needed , 07 should have the better black brake lines , if not they rust . Looks like a nice truck
I still have mine from '07 but in 2 wheel drive version with an I-5 and off road package. My vent valve is sticking and my headlamp switch is going out, but other than that no problems. Oh, I barely have 40,000 miles on it!
Great Truck I hope you can help
I have a Italjet 50 cc 2 cycle air cooled that won't start. Here is a list of what I did so far.
It has 95 psi compression. Did crankcase pressure test and vacuum test. It held @ 9 psi and 7 in vac for 5 mins with no drop in pressure or vac.
The engine won't even pop with fuel squirted into the spark plug hole.
It has every thing that it should run. Used a plug tester to make sure it is not loosing spark.
Can the reed valve cause a no start?? Then I put on hand over the carb while cranking I get fuel on my hand. I would think it should be sucked into the cylinder. Even if I use starter fluid it still won't pop.
Just so you know I bought the bike not running with no back ground information as to why it was not running.
This is the first engine I was not able to start in my 20 year wrenching. Not that well versed on 2 cycle engines. But if you air fuel spark some thing should pop run a little.
Any help would be appreciated
Thank you.
Congrats!
Awesome truck I have the Chevy Colorado GF package..... Loaded!..... Ever had the front Rotors off!??,...... Not fun!!!🙈
Just got a 2005 Colorado z71 2wd I with a 131k miles at first it was hard adjusting to it coming from a full size Silverado but a week driving it and I love it especially the mpg
Martin Duarte hey I have the same vehicle do you know why it says “traction fault” next to the speedometer?
Nice truck love the color.
nice ride. thanks for sharing
this is not a small motor...lol
like the truck....good stuff buddy
Wow, I never see a 5 cylinder truck before.
then u aint seen this
I own one
My grandpa has one and it still runs great
For a second, I thought you were Elon Musk haha 😆 Love the truck and review. I have a ‘05 Z71 4x4 Crew Cab too. Unfortunately, in the shop getting some TLC. 167k miles so hoping for many many more to come!..although I wouldn’t say these are necessarily fast! 😉
getting the same exact kind at 13 years old. hopfully it lasts me for awhile
I had have my 2007 colorado for 10 years and it runs like new. I am the original owner. Granted i only put about 10,000 miles per year since i dont drive a lot. But it has not given me any big problems other than a light out or minor stuff. I also keep up with maintenance on it.
maintenance is key, I just did the sway bar links at 96 000 kms, we have rough roads here. I put on the moog ones with grease fittings
hey don! got a 2008 tacoma myself too around feb! ever had any interest of the tacomas before you purchased your chevy? just curious on your opinion haha
Just bought a Colorado and had no idea that the truck needs to be in neutral for 4x4 low shifting. Thanks. Had the truck for a week then it rained and I just had some leaks in the cab from the tail light and somewhere I need to find in the front. Pretty common on these trucks and it's counterpart the GMC Canyon.
same here, I didn't realize about having to be in neutral for LOW
crew cab is the way to go....nice truck......good color too.
mikeatc33 thanks
nice and clean underneath!
Do you have the cold start blue smoke yet? Heard they can do that after 100 k,possibly the valve cover pvc..
Dony be careful with that plastic bed liner. From experience they collect dirt between the bed liner and the truck bed, and slowly cause the bed to rust. I'd personally remove that bed liner and have the bed rhino lined or linex'd.
I remember when the Colorado came out, I did a test drive of one, I was surprised how much power the 5 cylinder engine had. The Chevrolet Colorado / replaced the S-10. The S-10's were great trucks, at least the older ones were LOL.
***** I luckily caught it on my F-250 before it was damaged too bad, but I removed the liner and had it rhino-lined...only downfall for rhino lining or line-x is if you want stuff to slide in and out it doesn't LOL.
You so right
Esta camioneta es buena o mala ? Qué tal fue su experiencia
Don, these are very nice smaller trucks. I've have had three of them and never been in the shop with any of them. 2005 extended cab 5 cylinder, 2011 crew cab 5 cylinder and just got a 2015 crew cab with V6 with all the goodies for my wife. I know you will take good care of it and it will last a long time.
liveinmyamerica nice! how's the 2015
Don't have a lot of miles on it yet, its stands quiet a bit taller then my 2011, maybe six inches but is also a little wider. I also like you use a trailer for most hauling, really saves the box and keeps them looking nice.
Nice truck i have one same year 2007 z71 color yellow its an awesome truck prefer it rather than bigger trucks excellent in gas
what does the z71 have extra?
i have been looking for a truck like this one :( they are so hard to find! nice truck man, i really like the older models, not so fond of the newer models
So true i own one i trust me is the best truck i ever own
Looks like you got a nice truck...
Nice truck Donny
I was always worried about odd number cylinder engines
Have you ever looked into a Honda Ridgeline about same size
more storage inside the bed area.
Michael K I did, my brother in law has one but I realized this was better for me
ive got two of the gmc canyons. one is standard cab with 262,000 miles i love it the other i just bought its a crew cab 2012 with 35,000 on it it is super clean to.
i ve done just about everything to it . the biggest issue is the front rotors .you have to break the wheel spindles loose . and put them on from the rear. a lot of work , and if there never been worked on there probably seized on there.
the biggest thing i can warn you about is frame rot YOU MUST RINSE THE RAILS OUT REGULARLY . put a hose right in the holes just inside the wheel wells. flush heavily..
then when ever you can keep some paint to keep it from rusting. the sand and salt builds up in there and between rotting and the cold with the expansion going on it will take its toll, i did a lot of mending on mine and it was on the drivers side by gas tank .
+Randy Carreiro thanks Randy
I have a 2017 colorado with the 2.8 duramax diesel. It's a very torquay truck. more torque than the 5 cylinder. I did have a 2006 chevrolet colorado z71 crew cab but with 3.5l 5 cylinder. So far I really like the 2017 colorado
Nice truck did not realize Chevy had a 5 cylinder engine
I got a little bit older truck it's a 1995 ford f150 with the 5.0 (302) with 334,400 miles on it. That's the original motor, transmission and rear end I change the oil regular at 3,000 miles 2:48
Do you feel the 5 foot bed is good enough for your needs?
Nice truck!
Nice like chevy.. good luck with it . TU
3:49 Love that sound!
Chevy/GMCs like to rust along the rocker panels and cab corner posts. Also fuel tank straps will rust. Keep an eye on these spots Dony.
BobMaineVH thanks, just been undercoated
Never had my 2007 rust under it I still have it. It mainly Rust if you live in northern states where they Salt the roads, an therefore Any vehicle will rust in them locations. I live in Louisiana we Never have salt on our roads because it doesn't get that cold/icy.
Great vid man. I have 06 GMC Canyon Off Road 4x4 and I'm wanting to upgrade wheel size from stock 15 to 16. Any suggestions on the wheels offesets and width and what tire size should I put on, etc?
I'm not sure but if you look on some forums I think you'll find the answer
Glad you've got yourself a nice truck! Would you tell if you bought it from a private party or used car place, or dealer?
Have you been polishing that thing? Every time I drive my your shop I need to make sure I have my sunglasses on. I'll come for a visit soon.
rippinmachines lol, yes stop by with your new toys
I had one and it was ok. Didn't like the 5 cyl wish it was an inline 6. My power windows started to get really slow going up, other than that no problems with it. Just traded it for a 2017 with the 2.8 turbo diesel.
Im not sure but i think it comes with a 3.5 15 engine on the 4dr version and 4 speed automatic transmission maybe a facelift but my truck looks really identical to yours
Hi donyboy73 is the engine Isuzu? Becuase i understood that there is Isuzu five cyl. engine in Hummer H3
I'm sure a lot have already said this, but undercoat it yearly. For whatever reason once they start to rust it takes off fast
Do you prefer to have the double cab or would you rather have the cab and 1/2 which would give you a larger cargo space?
I just bought a 2004 Colorado with 55 thousand miles. I was able to get a 3 year 36 thousand mile warranty.
Very nice truck, I'm surprised with the 5 cylinder engine its not under powered, even though it is a small sized truck.
The truck like that I've seen around are not too rusty, maybe GM smarten up and did something different.
+ARednecksLife they do rust read my post, i still like it a lot i just got another
