Man it was cold outside that day! And I could really use an extra hand, lol. ;-p
If you like this video or found it helpful, please check out my awesome roller derby team, East Coast Devastation, at www.ecdrd.com. Thanks!
The engine should be hot when doing this treatment and after the Seafoam soaks inside the engine for 10 min you should drive it hard for about 10 min. You didn't see much smoke because there's no load on the engine.
You need to do a resonator box delete.
The delete adds mpg and power and you can then install a pcv filter.
355 nation has a few articles.
Thanks bud.
Would love to do a resonator box delete. Never had any luck finding a complete parts list online, or a kit for sale. And don't have time to cobble together a bunch of hoses and pipes from the hardware store, lol. 😂
ive always ran i through the brake booster vacuum line, Less chance of one of the overpriced plastic tension fittings breaking
Hi Mike thanks for the video. I wonder if cleaning from the vacuum port at the throttle body would help clear the intake manifold of carbon at the ports for the secondary air check valve. They are 2 small ports from the manifold that go to the check valve. The check valve is right above the exhaust manifold heat shield and has a tube that goes down to the secondary air pump below the air filter box. I don't want to spray into the ports themselves and they are full of carbon built up so it's affecting operation of the check valve. I'm thinking I should find a small bristle brush (very small) and then dip in seafoam to try to clean the ports. Suggestions? I know if I soak the intake with seafoam when the engine is hot the check valve won't be operating as the secondary air pump only works when the engines cold (on start up) so I don't think the flow goes to the dirty ports.
I just did it , to my 04 colorado , and smoked the same amount maybe a lil less . Some people say it should smoke like hell if not , it means u didnt do it right. Is it true?
Yeah i just signed up there. Im gonna check it out because that think looks fucking sick on there and i have basically the same truck. Thanks man!
Grill guards look great on trucks, IMHO. Aggressive, and practical! 😁👍👍
Guy why do you always do these things when it is Cold out?
Sometimes that's the only time I can get out of work! :'(
Is not because is cold....😂
Thanks for video Mike. I love my Colorado and its the same as yours (07' z71 4x4 with 5 cylinder) I have over 170K miles now and purs like a kitten. I want to try this foam on the intake? Does this trick clean up the injectors pretty good?
Hi! To clean the injectors you'll want to run this through your fuel system. The instructions I've followed generally recommend 1/3 of the can into the intake (sucked in via vacuum hose), 1/3 into the gas tank, and 1/3 into the crankcase (oil). Let it run for a bit then change the oil afterwards. Good luck! :-)
What liquid are you useing and that cleand allí the body acelerator excusme but iam trying to get information because I just to buy one colorado 2008 and I like to fix all vehicles what l have had and when one person go to see a mecanic this guys sometimes to do the job wrong.appreciated your help hace a nice day FROM PARRAS DE LA FUENTE COAHUILA DE ZARAGOZA MÉXICO
Hi! Thanks for your comment. As the video title indicates, the liquid being used to clean the engine is Seafoam - a common chemical you can find at most auto parts stores and also Walmart, at least here in the US. Outside of this country you may need to order it online. Good luck!
I want excuse me for my spelling but l was living in AUSTIN TX l knew beatifulys persons geting back to the trucks apreciate to mecanics who gives good advices .here in MÉXICO there is selfishs mecanics that try to get Money easy.change theme can you tell me what's seafoamig MISTER.see you soon oo l just your answer thanks a lot
@@homeromarrero1289 Seafoam is a chemical - that is the brand name. You can buy it at most auto parts stores and also at Walmart, or online on websites like Amazon.com. Just type "seafoam" into the search bar on Amazon, it should come up. Good luck!
Will it clean the throttle body when you put it through the vac hose?
Hi! Thanks for checking out my video. From the placement where the hose is connected in this video it will clean the inside, but not the throttle plate that tends to get a bit gunked up. My recommendation would be to remove the resonator box (the plastic box that sits directly over the spark plugs), turn the ignition key on (but don't start engine), use a broom handle or similar object to depress the gas pedal, this will open the throttle plate and allow you to clean the inside and outside of that. Don't try to force the plate open manually as this can damage the control linkage. Let me know if you have any more questions, hope this helps!
getting ready to do it again Idle is dropping bad...but I just do the manifold intake(take apart but without removing )...pain taking crap off though
Let us know if it helps! :-D
Why is it.is fixing something..please what's the problem to fix...thanks
It cleans stuff out. Read the back of the can or google the product for more details. 🤣
If this video was helpful to you, please "like" and "subscribe". Thanks! :)
Where did you get that front bar? thats badass
I did this, and ever since I've had a rough idle and it throws a random misfire code. I've replaced the spark plugs, VVT solenoid, throttle body, and purge valve solenoid and nobody can figure out why it's happening. Ran perfect before.
Hi! Sorry to hear you're having trouble. What is the code you're getting? Misfire codes usually correspond to one cylinder or another - and are usually related to the ignition coils. Have you tried swapping the coils to see if the misfire code "travels" to another cylinder? How many miles? You may also want to consider doing a compression test. Good luck!
You ever had issues with oil getting into the airbox or air breather? I have a 2011 3.7 and it had oil in breather box and air box. Wouldnt idle/stall once it got to operating temps. Turned out to be a warped head, I think the oil is what caused the buildup on the valves which most likely caused the head to warp.
Hi! Thanks for the comment. Oil in the intake is a pretty common issue in these trucks. It's usually caused by a clog in part of the PCV system. The PCV system in the 1st gen trucks doesn't have a "valve" in the traditional sense. There's an intake "clean air" hose (the larger rubber hose) running from the intake resonator (large plastic box on top of the engine) into the top of the valve cover, then a smaller "dirty air" hose running from the valve cover to the intake manifold to be reburned.
Recommended maintenance is to inspect and replace the rubber hoses as necessary, and if the small tubes at the top of the engine become clogged you may need to spray them out with a bit of cleaner spray, or remove the valve cover if the clog becomes severe.
It sounds like in your case this clog became very severe!
Here's a few pictures (hosted on Imgur) of parts of the PVC system:
imgur.com/a/kc2xPTC
Note that part of the hose is behind a difficult-to-remove cover. Some people will cut an "inspection hole" through this cover rather than remove it.
Hope this helps!
@@CompTechMike Thank you
I own a 2011 GMC Canyon with a 2.9l engine. Did you trip a "check engine" light?? Second, Any improvement in performance and gas mileage?
Hi! No, I did not have any issues with a check engine light. There's a ton of threads about this topic on forums like ColoradoFans and 355Nation that can provide additional info about this procedure. Good luck! :-)
where did you get you seafoam at? Did it come with that attachment for the vacuum line?
You can buy it at most auto parts stores, including Walmart. 😉
what is this sesfoaming and why the car needs it
Hi! Hopefully you've found your answer by now, but if not, this link may be helpful:
www.readersdigest.ca/cars/maintenance/sea-foam-engine-treatment/
Cool video I just bought a 2007 colorado I5 3.7. I don't know if i should do this or not i have never tried on any cars so I might mess it up? Do you have other videos about your truck. I ran a computer on it I got a lean bank one and something on the thermostat.
Hi! I have many other Colorado videos on my RUclips channel. The thermostat is a common failure on our trucks, to get to that it's down on the side of the engine block - probably easiest to get at it through the driver's side wheel well. A code scanner (free to borrow at most auto parts stores) should help you narrow down the other issues. Good luck! :-)
Hi Mike, do you have a part number for that clear vacuum line that you used to insert Seafoam into the intake? Thanks.
No, afraid not. That was part of a "bulb" style siphon pump I picked up somewhere many years ago (you know the kind, supposed to be for siphoning fluid out of a tank by squeezing a bulb). I would imagine most auto parts stores would have something like this, though. Good luck!
It's just clear tubing you can buy from any home improvement store, just need to know the id
Does it matter how much gas you have in your tank ? Or do you need a specific amount ?
Antoniio Ibarra Doesn't matter, as far as I know. Obviously you don't want to be doing this "on fumes", I'd make sure to have at least a half-tank to 3/4's.
Thank you !
What does that do for the catalytic converter
Is it hard on
Hi! I am not aware of any adverse affects to the catalytic converter from using Seafoam. It's been nine years since I made this video; my truck has over 200k miles and still has the original cats, with no issues.
I did do a little google searching on this question however, and found a few threads where people mentioned that if your cats are already in bad shape, the amount of additional "crud" coming off the engine with the Seafoam can clog them up worse. This should not be an issue if your cats are in good shape and are able to burn off the "crud" as it comes out. Hope this helps, good luck!
@@CompTechMike
Thank you for the input
I really appreciate that
What does this do for the truck?
It gives it 150 more horsepower lol
So you put the seafoam in with the oil?
+Patrick Schoen Correct. 1/3 of the can into the oil, 1/3 into the gas, 1/3 into the intake, I usually do the brake booster line now since it's easiest to disconnect. :)
Mind blown. Nice plate btw
where did you get that hoes you used to suck up the sea foam and how much sea foam did you put in the gas tank?
To be honest I thing he used a hose that is used to take out gas from a lawn mower or atv. You buy them at auto zone or orileys. It has two ends and in the middle has a little black ball that u press to back up the gas from one thing to a gas tank.
didn't see you add any to the gas tank , did you that after the video…and hows it running afterwards
Hi, thanks for the comment! It's been a couple years since I posted this video, but as I recall I did 1/3 of the can to intake, 1/3 to oil, and 1/3 to gas. And yes, it ran much better afterward. More peppy, etc. Probably about time I did it again, LOL. ;)

How many miles on your Colorado I5? They've taken a lot of abuse in reviews, but I've done a lot of research and most owners have had good luck with them. One guy on Chevy Colorado forums has 600,000 miles on his. They idle a bit rough from what I've been told, but still a good motor with lots of power. I have the 5.3L V8 in my 2010 Colorado 4x4.
sldl04 - just past 126,000 miles, no issues with the engine or powertrain. Those reviewers are idiots. ;) There's a whole thread on coloradofans website dedicated to how many miles people have on their trucks.
***** Yeah, most of the reviews hated the interior and called it "cheap", but what do these people want?? And they hated the I4 and I5 motors as well. I love my truck. Are you on the Colorado forum?
sldl04 Yeah, haven't logged in in a while though. Busy working! I like the interior, is functional & utilitarian, I work out of my truck, don't need leather or chrome!
how was the aftermat?
caparzzo Runs much smoother, thx! :)
What rpm does the vortex kick in
Hi! It's not a supercharger. Vortec is just a name for the GM engine's airflow process.

@@CompTechMike What's the best spark plugs for the engine?
@@danielmcdaniels295 Hi! "best" is a pretty subjective term. I know a lot of people in the truck forums swear by the Denso's. Personally I go with the old saying "keep your GM all GM" and use ACDelco Iridium's. Obviously YMMV. Good luck!
Ok
Can anyone comment on the reliability of the 2009 3.7L I5 engine? I talked to one mechanic and he said to stay away from them, but I've read other reviews saying they're great. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks
Mine has 221,000 miles on it and is still running great. Like most things, it depends on how well it's been taken care of. The most difficult/expensive maintenance it may require is the timing chain. Unless you can do it yourself, that is a $2k job (or more) due to the complexity.
@@CompTechMike Thanks for the info. Ya the one i'm looking at has 156,000m. Ouch on the timing chain though.
@@skeeley64 Yeah, hoping mine lasts another year or two. It's a tough job to replace it! Other than that, I think the 3.7 is a good motor. They fixed a lot of the issues the earlier 3.5 had (with it's head, valves, etc.). Most of the people I see on the forums are pretty pleased with the 3.7. Best of luck with yours!
Any improvement in fuel mileage?
I didn't do it for fuel mileage, I do it for maintenance. It's been seven years since I made this video and well over 100,000 miles. I think performing these types of preventative maintenance is one of the main reasons why my truck is still running so well. :)
@@CompTechMike I need you to throw a quart of Lucas if you haven't and a can of Restore 6 cylinder with CSL in with your next oil change. Amazon has it as Restore 00012.
@@der_pinguin44 good stuff. I've used both of those products in the past. Just did my oil change again yesterday, using Mobile 1 "Annual Protection" oil, now. Previously had been using Mobile 1 Extended Life oil. 195,000 miles and I just had my truck at the shop this morning for it's state safety inspection. I've known the guys who work there for years and they said my truck is still looking great for that kind of mileage. :-)
Thanks for showing how to get the vaccume hose off. NOT. SHOW EVERYTHING!
+todd belmont (1) I had to set the camera down because it's a two-hand job and it's not exactly like I have a cameraman.
(2) If you can't figure out how to get the hose off, are you sure you have any business being under the hood of a vehicle? Although it is a tricky little clip, I will say.
(3) It's a lot easier to put it in through the brake booster line, which is how I do it now. Think you can figure out how to get that one off? ;)
Cheers!
It has a little ear on the connector. First push the whole line in towards the throttle body, just a little. Take the ear on the connector and slide it in then pull back. It's pretty straightforward.
😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
...okay? 😑
