- Ken Bruce hosted his final show on BBC Radio 2 on 3 March 2023. He will start his new show on GHR in April.
Final songs played were Petula Clark's My Love and The Beatles' Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End (cut in this clip).

Radio 2 will never be the same again as all the greatest DJs have now left the station - No Ken Bruce, No Simon Mayo, No Alex Lester, No Craig Charles, No Richard Allinson, No Mark Goodier and of course former DJs Steve Wright, Paul O'Grady and Janice Long who are sadly no longer with us these days, RIP Steve, Paul and Janice GBNF.
Still listening to him on the new show on my solid state Sony Str 6055 on analog.
And it’s a great listen too.
The bbc is beyond help.
Love Ken ❤
I shall be listening to Ken on GHR
Legend!!! 🎉We love you Ken!! ....Radio 2 is now ruined....
Ken Bruce a legend in his own lifetime. Radio 2 need to wake up and see what they've done to the station and read the comments said. All we need is Steve Wright to have the 2pm slot on Greatest Hits and all will be well in the world.
So, GHR from now on in, Ken and Simon and the wonderful Richard Allinson. Happy Days.
My sentiments exactly, well said! RIP Radio 2.
@@kevinhoughton9134 what a load of rubbish lol
@@bramwell948 Dead and buried as far as I'm concerned, it's full of talentless presenters now. Did you reply to the originator of the post I replied to by the way?
@@bramwell948 Yes dull as dishwater sycophants
RIP Steve Wright
all set up and ready to go on Greatest hits radio in the home, alarm clocks, and cars ! (bye bye radio 2)
Same here. Looking forward to 3 April
You’ve lost the two best DJ s radio 2 is totally finished, looking forward to Great hits and listening to Ken best of luck for the future
Thank you for the years of service Ken. Good luck on Greatest Hits Radio.
I've listened to this several times...what a classy way to go out.... enjoying Ken on GHR now
The last of the BBCs credibility, has just left the building..
Bless you Ken..🙏
Loved him on Radio 2 and we'll continue to love him on GHR.
Ken Bruce will be missed on radio 2 , He is brilliant and so knowledgeable ❤❤ Thanks Bruce for all your shows I enjoyed them all.
No he isn't. He never said anything interesting at all. Mr dull.
well done Ken and look forward to listening to you on G Hits Radio 30 years wow
Gonna miss you Ken
LEGEND, good luck on GHR Ken, I'll be listening
Can’t wait to hear Ken hopefully again on GHR…
Listened to you for years Ken but missed the last show as I listened to you at work and I got the sack ….so all the best my friend and thank you…
Greatest Hits radio here I come. BBC Radio 2 have had their day, but got rid of all their best DJ’s so goodbye!!!!!
Legend, pure and simple
Bye Bye radio 2 thanks for the past 40 years of good entertainment, but now it is time for me to move on just like you have felt the need to move on. Hello Greatest hits radio.
Me too, and judging by other comments, we're two of many.
Why do people feel the need to tell everyone what station they are going to be listening too. Quite sad really
Same
Will only be listening to Zoe in the morning and will follow Ken to GHR.
When Tony Blackburn leaves it will be the end of Radio 2.
And Johnnie walker
@@peteanderson4395 Sorry. Yes, the great JW.
And Liza Tarbuck
@@jackwilkinson2254 dunno why but can't help listening to her... the good shows are only on the weekend..JW LT PG and TB... also enjoy sounds of the 80s
And Paul Gambuccini
Ken and Simon on GHR are better than all of what R2 have left. Watch the listenership dwindle even further...
Bruce on greatest hits in the morning, get wrighty on the afternoon and the gang is slowly reforming under a new name.. Bye bye radio 2, your presenters made it what it was so without them you are much much poorer.
I couldn't agree more.
The A team are nearly complete on greatest hits!!
@@pyeman6819 Niether could I.
The music playlist Greatest hits a lot older not really for all ages and the ads are very intrusive. Vernon Kay will do just fine although KB has huge shoes to fill but times change thats life
@@richardmcdougall233 ken Bruce has huge shoes to fill ..answer your phone your village is calling you they want their idiot back
Simply the best, thats all.
I won't be listening to BBC Radio 2 again!!!
I left Boom Radio briefly to listen to Ken's final goodbye, but that's it, I have no need to listen to radio 2 any more. I will listen to Boom constantly. (just like I used to listen to Radio 2 not so long ago)
Goodbye radio2 hello greatest hits!!
Good luck on GHR Ken. What a legend. I just hope the BBC don't get rid of Alex Dyke. I've been listening to him on the radio for many years now since the first time I heard his good old Saturday Bubblegum and Cheese shows on Radio Solent and he does a great job when sitting in for Paul Miller. If Alex Dyke goes BBC radio will never be the same for me.
No Terry Wogan,no Ken Bruce, no Steve Wright.
Just shut Radio 2 down.
A true legend, BBC Radio 2 won't be the same without him
That's me and Radio 2 done.
Anyone remember when it was a real radio station without agenda? It was a great station ALL DAY LONG.
Sarah Kennedy; the dry, Irish wit of Wogan; Ken Bruce, of course; The impartial intelligence of Jimmy Young, rather than the Leftie-Hypocritical-Bias of Jeremy "Twathead" Vine; Ed Stewart, and Johnny Walker. Brilliant lineup.
Thanks for the laughs, Ken, and best of luck, Mate.
I would hardly call Vine left.
Sarah Kennedy....she was brilliant for that time in the morning
The BBC didn't have an agenda? lol how about how they edited the footage during the miner strikes, to make it look like the miners started the trouble, when it was in fact, the police who charged the miners first.
I used to listen to Ken most days for many years, according to my work schedule, But lost all interest in Radio some years ago. I confess that i could not recognise Kens last words here, his voice seems to have lightened; but recognised his humour . All the best Ken, for your future endeavours.
Ironically he leaves playing the music that he told them he wanted to play…
Radio 2 is dead
Some people don’t like change, guessing your one? I get it’s not everyone will like the decisions and the way Radio 2 have gone about it but change and the way things evolve is inevitable. Give it a few weeks and everyone will forget no doubt. Removing Steve Wright is my gripe but oh well
It’s not that changing Presenters and yes things change but Radio 2 being the most listened radio station in Europe and paid for by licence payers the replacements should be of the very best in the business not people like Scott Mills who is worse than listening to a naff DJ at a school disco. However on the bright side I have tuned into greatest hits radio and after getting use to the adverts which is a little annoying the radio station is very good, so I don’t need to torture myself with Jeremy Vine & Scott mills, is radio 2 dead no properly not but it has been damaged for good by very bad management decisions.
@@lloydburdis1277 TBH I’ve also gone over to greatest hits radio. The adverts are annoying but if your able to zone out on them it’s ok. I loved Steve wright in the afternoon. Always made me smile and chill me out with the funny banter he had. Oh well, onwards and upwards as we look for other stations to entertain us
Agreed 👍
@@lloydburdis1277 such as teaming Simon Mayo with Jo Whiley on Drivetime when the format was working fine as it was. There's too much fixing what isn't broken.
Friday 3rd March 2023
Only the BBC knows how to alienate it's loyal listeners, listeners who are funding the same radio station they know and love.
I must say, my Dad used to religiously listen to Ken Bruce.
When Terry Wogan passed away, I had to tell him - No, thats Ken Bruce you've been listening to for the last 15 years!😂
Anyway, will be missed !
I only used to listen to Ken between 10 and 11 while Woman's Hour is on R4 and catch Popmaster, then back to R4 before any hint of Vine appears. Have to find this new station Ken's on for PM now.
Good luck Ken, I think BBC may lose a few listeners. Rock on Ken
I won’t be turning into Greatest hits Radio. Radio2 is 1000 times better than Greatest Hits Radio
@Zender Man no all you get on Greatest Hits Radio the same songs every 90 minutes
@Zender Man that's what I like about Radio 2
RIP, Radio 2. Greatest hits radio needs to employ those Put out to grass. At the same time of the day as the old show
And everybody can tune into GHR.
I bloody won’t it’s an awful radio station Radio 2 is 1000 times better
Same
Come back to Radio 2 Ken radio 2 boring without you Ken
Bye bye r2, what a monumental disaster to let Ken leave.
What were they supposed to do? Chain him to the studio?
Radio 2 has lost all its good shows and presenters in the last year. Crazy really.
Switched stations as soon as his show ended and won't be back. The demographic they target these days certainly is not the over 40s so i will just have to find an old farts FM signal somewhere! 😊
Would say things like SClub are for over 40s now, just about. People who were at raves etc 30 years ago will be in their 50s now. Times change.
That’s me done entirely with the BBC. His was the only show I listened to. Bye bye BBC...
Radio 2 was the last stand for the slightly older British working class.... thats why they want to change it.
So sad
Retuned to greatest hits now
Is greatest hits radio on DAB?
yes
Just like Ken etc al I'm off to GHR, radio 2 is finished
The only thing that the licence fee was worth paying for...so that'll save me a few quid this year
Radio 2 always first choice in the car, now deleted from the station menu and replaced with Smooth. Well don BBC you have just destroyed radio 2!
I won't be listening to Greatest hits Radio all they do is play the same songs every 90 minutes Ken must be out of his mind
Steve gone, Ken gone, Radio 2 gone as far as I'm concerned.
@Zender Man Ok, Steve has been kicked out of his daytime show
The elephant in the room is that, no what younger presenter they get,...nobody young listens to the radio anymore. I have two boys 25 and 17 ; neither have ever listened to Radio1, never mind Radio 2. The youngest uses Spotify , the eldest us interested...and I haven't listened to Radio2 in three years now. My wife only listens when she's commuting and not always to Rad2.
I am 20 and I listen to DAB Radio.
As well as RUclips, Spotify and other streaming service.
He did an excellent interview with Kate Bush.
Goodbye and good riddance bbc.
He was always far too good for the rising tide of goons poisoning a once leading organisation. A charming professional gentleman Few if any left.
I changed to GH radio a year ago. Great music and a great move Ken. Radio 2 is finished like radio 1 before it and the BBC in general. I only paid my TV licence as I stopped for pop master. Cheers Ken I've now cancelled my direct debit as I don't watch or listen to the woke BBC anymore. Hear you on the 3rd of April. Just wishTel
I don't really mind Zoe Ball leaving because she has no talent anyway.
But I do find it difficult to accept that Ken Bruce, Paul O'Grady and co are all getting shipped out in the one go.
This is bad news for the Radio 2, for their listeners and for the BBC as a whole.
They have shown a complete lack of respect for those DJs who are being moved out and probably more importantly their listening public.
It is ageism and quite frankly it's disgusting, disgraceful and disappointing.
The BBC has done themselves no favours here, and if the current controller of Radio 2 remains in her job then the BBC as a whole are every bit as guilty and those at the top have dishonoured the Radio station.
Shame on you, BBC.
Who’s going to play Supertramp now?
Radio 2 used to be my go to but the Woke Brigade have lost me. If this was a commercial station it would slowly die but thanks to the bosom of the BBC they still get to continue 😢
BBC? Woke? You're joking, right?
@@yolandasamuels3213 The BBC has been accused of going woke after a Countryfile presenter said "people" menstruate. Sounds woke to me.
shame on the beeb !
Time Io end the licence fee. You can get everything you need elsewhere
Best thing he can do is leave Radio 2. Time for a fresh start. Hopefully he will have greater autonomy over the music in his program and will also be able to employ his dry wit without being stymied by the BBC “wokerati”.
I suspect you will end up being disappointed.
The BBC isn't left - more like a Tory mouthpiece!
This is my goodbye from Radio 2 as well: it's been trashed in the last ten years. Ken Bruce joins Sarah Kennedy. Alex Lester. Paul Jones, Paul O Grady, Vanessa Feltz and Richard Allinson in the graveyard of great presenters that have been dumped, and don't forget long running shows like The Organist Entertains and Listen To The Band that have been scrapped for being old fashioned.
@Zender Man So people like Zoe Ball are better then. I gave up on her show as it's all about some reality show she watched last night, what she was doing in the nineties and whose name she could drop. Paint drying is more fun, same as the hysterical and unfunny Sara Cox. To think this show was once hosted by John Dunn, whose shows were interesting and great listening on a long journey.
I think Radio 2 has treated Ken really bad for all his years of service as well as Steve Wright and a few years ago Tony Blackburn. These guys are legendary!!! I will never listen to a BBC radio station again! Over to Greatest Hits Radio now. Good luck Ken 😊
Hope he doesnt take that wannabe travel presenter with him.
I am so with you on that one, he is so irritating
I don't think there is any threat of that
BBC radio 2 is already dead full of wannabe presenters and woke wallies
Radio 2 died when he left. No one on there now is straight are they?
@OscarFerguson1 yeah I still listen😂
Brilliant presenter, I will follow Ken to Greatest hits Radio. All we seem to be getting is a gay Welsh person in the mornings and another Gay in the afternoon and now vernon Kay, and I can’t get into his way of presenting. Don’t get me wrong Gary Davis and Sarah Cox are both brilliant but radio 2 is officially dead.
They say it's your BBC , the BBC is so woke . Time to get rid of the license fee
Bye bye auld Ken. At 72 of age and 40 years at the BEEB, you have had a great run. Time for a fresh faced good looking Vernon Kay. Enjoy your time at Greatest hits and your larger salary.
Sorry ken radio 2 is dead
Greatest hits is the best, radio 2 is so boring.
Good unfunny old guy 😂 now Jeremy vine, zoe ball & Sara cox should leave next bring back Chris moyles 👍🏻.
Lol turn the radio off the,🤔😂
Chris Moyles.. a legend in his own mind
Chris Moyles is on Radio X now
Does anyone remember anything he ever said?
