Ken is an absolute legend and a real broadcaster definitely Greatest Hits Radio’s gain the BBC’s loss. Like a lot of radio listeners I don’t listen to Radio 2 anymore
Ken is the best of the best. He's cut from the same cloth as Terry, the gift of talking to people as if they'd known them for years and making the the listeners feel included.
This was great fun, excellent interview. I've listen to Ken for decades and always loved the banter between Ken and Terry. Was forlorn when I heard he was leaving R2 but then elated when I heard he would have almost the same slot but on Greatest Hits where the music is so much better. Ironically, R2 started playing more oldies tracks after Ken left, mmm! So glad Ken got one over on R2 with his Trademarked Popmaster.
The Best one yet! I love Ken and have missed him. it was never about him in his show. Ken you always gave your guest, topic, or news story the limelight! It don't go unnoticed X Thanks KB
Priceless, haven't listened to R2 for a while, but when hearing KB was moving to Greatest Hits, had no problem retuning. Seems many previous R1 and sometime R2 presenters have found a new home there too.
That’s how it appears but, I gather it’s US who go thru’ a process of change: I started off with Radio 1 but now, at 58, I’m pretty much at Radio 4. I remember Terry Wogan reading out a question he’d received, on his morning show, asking (hugely paraphrased) “at what age does one become a crusty old fart” to which Terry replied “at about the age you start to listen to this show & decide to write in”. If that wasn’t well explained, it was rather like the time I was asked by a very nice, happily married, Cambridge educated mate of mine “at what age do you become a dirty old man?” … to which I replied “at about the age you ask that question”.
Ken is very talented, as we all agree - but he's a canny Scot too, with the PM trade mark and merchandise. Good for him! A natural broadcaster. Witty, knows his music, appreciates his guests, always easy on the ear. Thank you, Ken. Thank you, Rob.
Well, he was canny but only because the BBC were stupid. He offered it to them and told them they should trademark it so nobody could copy it. They thought nobody would be interested enough to nick it, so he trademarked it himself to protect it. Turned out well for him in the end!😂
When I was younger just thought Ken was a Terry clone then something slowly happened when moving to two and Kens voice and dry sense of humour took me over .great interview 😊 61 now
He's a lovely idea of a man, is all I'll say. I preferred him to Steve Wright, I'll tell you that for nowt. BBC? If you slept with dogs like that, you should wake up with a lot more fleas.
Listen to Ken on Greatest Hits a lot recently at work. His voice has travelled with me thru the years thru parents and grandparents. Warms my heart he's on the correct side of celebrity. What a great laugh and still being absolutely thoroughly brilliant in what he does. What a man thanks for this Rob
Brilliant, brilliant little chat from two men who obviously have the greatest respect for each other and seem really close. Ken is a genius and Rob is right in saying he is so easy to listen to. I’m sure my blood pressure lowers by 20% when I hear Ken’s dulcet tones. Keep up the good work guys, you are both legends. My favourite dinner party guest would be Ken as I am sadly an old bus enthusiast. Fleetline or Atlantean? over to you Ken and I can only accept your first answer!
My friends had a Ken Bruce bus in 2008 for their wedding. My almost 2 year old was being a pain in the church so I took her outside and Ken let her play on the bus. I remember him mentioning his child about the same age. I think Charles Nove was the conductor with the ticket machine.
I always think it must be odd for people that are usually the ones asking the questions, trying to keep the patter going, making the guest feel welcome, to now br the other end answering the questions. Class act.
While watching this I suddenly remembered the first time I saw and heard Ken interact with Terry on air - I think it may have been the very first time they actually"met' on air .... a live Children in Need broadcast ( I think). Ken was a DJ with BBC Radio Scotland and therefore completely unknown to the majority of viewers while Terry was the long established star on BBC national radio and TV hosting the live show. At one point the show cut to a studio in Glasgow where for a minute or so a bearded and not yet bald Ken Bruce joked with Terry about the latter's sartorial style while Terry called Ken a " bearded wonder". It was all good natured and for me became a curious pre echo of the 000s of times listeners would hear Terry hand over to Ken at 09.30 on weekdays on BBC Radio 2.
I never listened to Ken on the Beeb, I am in West Wales and have listed to GHT even from the old Swansea sound days, retired now with the radio on whilst garnering etc I now wait for 10.30 every day to listen to pop master. Its a really great show. BYT uncle Bryn, we love you to bits 😂😂
Loved Ken's Radio 2 show and especially the April Fools show Rob did in 2011. Genuinely had me believing the impersonation for almost the entire two and a half hours!
As a boomer (and, by now & by definition, considered a ‘crusty old fart who listens to Prog rock’) I’ve always enjoyed listening to Ken. He, whispering’ Bob Harris & John Peel all have/had one of those voices that chills one out.
What a great chap Ken is and being interviewed by Rob too is a real treat too. I’ve now followed Ken to greatest hits radio and I love it. What a great station with finally some good music I only listen to radio 2 now for Jeremy Vine . Radio 2 is rubbish otherwise and has little personality I have Chris Evans on virgin radio, then Ken on greatest hits radio and then to Jeremy on radio 2. Then 2pm back to greatest hits
I listen to GHR at work from 7am until 3.30pm Mon to Fri and have to say that he`s the best DJ i`ve heard on British radio since I moved back to the UK 6 years ago from 33 years living in South Africa... South African radio has some excellent DJ`s, he reminds me very much of a few of them back "Home"...
I feel Ken was pushed out by the BBC - Ken isn't stupid, he knew the change in attitude at Radio 2, with them keen on getting younger presenters and not understanding their key listener demographic anymore it seems, and Ken knew he would be axed sooner rather than later, just look at how after he announced he planned to leave, that Radio 2 sped up his departure time.
Have you heard that Manic Street Preachers song Journal for Plague Lovers? It has the lyric "only a God can bruise". The "can bruise' bit sounds like Ken Bruce!
Ken Bruce is THE BEST and what on earth is the BBC doing letting him go????????? They should of moved heaven & earth to keep him !!!!!!!!!! Beyond belief ????????? He is THE GOD OF RADIO just like SIR TERRY WOGAN. LEGENDARY BROADCASTERS !!!!!!!!!!!
I thought the BBC got rid of Ken ? Why would you leave a very successful career after 40 years and go and work on another radio station doing the same thing ? I think Ken is just being kind and not slagging the BBC.
He left for more money -and the freedom to develop PopMaster in to a TV format through an independent production company. He has no reason to slag off the BBC - he's had a career there for over 40 years and could still in the future do freelance work for them.
The bbc gave him a good living and actually stayed with him in 1980s when listening figures were poor. Amazing how folk think someone should have a job for life at BBC..therein lies the issue. Some think the bbc is a cradle to grave life
Used to love Sir Tel and thought of Ken as 2nd string but Ken eventually surpassed him in my estimation. The only criticism of his show on Greatest Hits, is that I was introduced to artistes like Nel Brydon, Lissie and myriad others by Ken on radio 2. GH is rigidly the 30 year period. Please Ken, drop in some new stuff, just once in a while.
Ken is an absolute legend and a real broadcaster definitely Greatest Hits Radio’s gain the BBC’s loss. Like a lot of radio listeners I don’t listen to Radio 2 anymore

Ken Bruce is very likeable. No huge ego or LOUD voice. Just soft tones, and charm.
Ken is so easy to listen to because he is laid back, and engaging without being intrusive.

What lovely genuine guy ken is
The Best one yet! I love Ken and have missed him. it was never about him in his show. Ken you always gave your guest, topic, or news story the limelight! It don't go unnoticed X Thanks KB
Precisely. There must be loads of times he could tell anecdotes or drop names, but that's not Ken's style. A very modest man.
So nice to hear Ken on Greatest Hits Radio, I gave up radio 2 a few years ago.

Greatest Hits Radio, Ken in the morning, Simon and Matt late afternoon. Happy Days!
Great chemistry in this conversation between Ken and Ken. Thoroughly enjoyed this, thank you.

Always amazes me that this channel has so few subs and such a modest audience. Every one of these interviews are a joy.
