BBC Radio 2 - Terry Wogan & Jimmy Young - early 1978

- Опубликовано: 15 авг 2014
- At the start of 1978, Radio 2 shuffled its weekday/day-time line-up, moving Jimmy Young from his lunchtime slot to mid morning.
This gave "JY" the excuse to drop in on Terry Wogan's breakfast show during the last hour to plug his show.
Here's a selection of Terry & Jimmy's banter from March/April 1978 plus a few other associated clips.
Thanks for watching - and listening! :) - Развлечения
God we had no idea what we had until it was gone. Two of the best in broadcasting in my heartfelt opinion.
I used to live for this moment every day, when Terry and Jimmy would do this change over at the studio. To call them professional would be an understatement. Days of pure magic. Thank you Retro Radio for these truly magical times 😊🙏👌👍👏❤️
Me too!
These two were the best, so naturally funny, always professional. R.I.P Terry. End of an era.
Fond memories of my childhood here, my lovely Mum always listened to Radio 2 in the seventies. 😊
Those two voices are iconic and their signature tunes take you right back
I was brought up listening to these two. Happy days, in more ways I can remember.
God rest 'em both !!! 2 lovely blokes who will always be part of my childhood and younger days !!
Rest in peace Jimmy and Terry. Hope you're having a great laugh in the big studio upstairs. We wish could listen in....
I think Terry was an athiest so he must have got a big shock if their is an upstairs.Don't know if Jimmy believed in the afterlife.
Jimmy Young was great. He never missed a day at work, even when he was nearing 80 years old and still on the Radio 2. Thanks.
Excellent ! So missed.
This is the kind of banter I remember from these two excellent broadcasters.
R.I.P Sir Terry
TURNING ON THE RADIO WAS A PLEASURE LISTENING TO THE GREATS JIMMY YOUNG 📻 TERRY WOGAN 📻 RAY MOORE 📻
SADLY THERE ALL THREE PASSED ON NOW THEY WERE WONDERFUL PRESENTERS OF RADIO SHOWS 📻📻📻
NOVEMBER 2016 📻📻📻
Loved both the late Terry Wogan and Jimmy Young's Radio Shows. Full of good musicand witty banter. r.i.p Terry and best wishes to Mr Young.
fantastic 2 great guys from the best year ever 1978 the music that year was superb
Thank you for posting; takes me back to happy times. RIP Jimmy and Terry.
The golden voices of my childhood. Thank-you so much for having and sharing this with us all. Such wonderful memories. As a small child I sat enthralled listening to the warm and sharp wit of these two "boys". Both lost this year. Sir Terry 1938 - 2016 and Sir Jimmy 1921 - 2016. God Bless Boys xx
Nicola Wharton, I agree with what you said. Same with me. I used to get up for school every morning just before 7:30 am, just as Ray Moore was knocking off before Terry Wogan took over for his slot. This was in October 1980, Terry would always play Barbra Streisand ''Woman in love'' .
How I wish that either we could go back to those times or that Terry and JY were still with us and doing the business on Radio 2.
Terry Wogan's voice and his articulation in speaking, were fabulous..
So sad that both these stars are now no longer with us ...RIP Terry and Jimmy
Great days. Loved them! RIP, Wogan and Young. :(
So saddened to hear that Sir Jimmy Young has passed away today at the age of 95.I will always fondly remember him for his Radio 2 Show. I was a regular listener to hisProg as he used to call it, from the mid 70's right up until he retired in the early 2000's.I'll always remember him saying at the end of each show "This is JY saying BFN, By forNow" Rest in Peace Mr Young (sadly missed)
Both Jimmy and Terry sadly missed.
RIP to both legends
Good old radio fun. Sadly both have left us. RIP Jimmy
Best 2 radio presenters EVER by a mile Jimmys show had everything RIP both of you
Really miss both Terry and Jimbo on radio 2. RIP Terry.
+Stephen Guppy I stopped listening when Terry left.
Top quality nostalgia!
Now we've lost the other one. R.I.P sir Jimmy & Sir Terry 2 greats on the radio.
Great days, much missed.
Andy Collins and JVS on 3 counties radio . Are like this every morning at 9.30am
two best broadcasters terry wogan and jimmy young since 1972 and 1973 on radio 2 RIP
I remember Jimmys' last broadcast on Radio 2. It was a very sad day for me at a time when life was difficult and I have often wondered how nice it would have been to hear his familiar voice again. Gone too of course Terry and Ed 'Stewpot' Stewart. God bless them.
rip to both great to hear the jy theme music again.
RIP Sir Jimmy. Reunited with Sir Terry. BFN.
Thanks so much for putting this up. They both sound so fresh!
Jimmy young to Terry Wogan you great Irish buffoon but said with love 😘
Just been announced that Jimmy Young has passed away aged 95. RIP
Pretty Fabulous..2 legends R.I.P
Terry and Jimmy, started this banter, and did it so well, real funny professionals. It seems to now be the norm for DJs to still do this, but I am yet to hear any that dont seem crass and amateur. It was Wogan and Young that started it and they have never been bettered.I wish the others out there would stop trying to copy and just get on with the show. You cant top the best.
Terry , one of Ireland's best ever exports 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
Love it
The clip from 6.30 is April 13 1978
Wogan's winner Podzola lost btw
What's the recipe today Jim?
Happy days 😁
The news 'items' back then wouldn't even make a 3 hour bulletin today. Simpler, happier times
Tony Blackburn and David Hamilton were also very funny Tony was on the breakfast show And David followed on radio 1 and then later on Londons Capital Gold
"Morning all. That was - hold on a mo. It wasn't hold on a mo, although he does feature rather regularly on this programme. That was Frank Sinatra doing it his way and taking us on to very nearly 10 past 11 by soooooo doing. Anyway. That's him gone for today but he'll be back. Talking of which, here he is, your friend and mine, Tony Deangelis. Til then, it's J.Y. saying - by for now.". (Not that I ever listened to it you understand).
Sad to hear of Jimmy Young's passing. Apparently he was Margaret Thatcher's favourite interviewer but as far as I remember he gave her a tough enough time, just in a polite manner.
The family radio was set to R2 every morning over breakfast before I went to school.
TW was good - even as a young teenager.....but what did he look like ? Nobody knew until he came onto TV.
I loved the days of dj themes
Wogan at his best, it worked well because Jimmy Young was an old fuddy duddy middle of the road presenter and Wogan brought out the comedy in him
RIP to them both
Fantastic presenter. RIP.
Barry Manilow's Can't Smile Without You 04:33 - was a new record back then!!
Or, as Terry Wogan used to call him, any of the following:
Manly Barrylow;
Mangy Benditoy;
Mandy Dimbleby!
Ha-har, me owl chums, will yer be takin' a look at dis owl fella.
Gettin' in a right owl tiz he is.
Good broadcaster. The 'hand overs' did get out of hand at times.... hilarious.
Maybe they are somewhere on the net.
Anyone remember Waggoners Walker on radio 2
I can remember coming home from school and my mum saying, hang on, let me just listen to the end of this episode. Fond memories
I do! My mum use to listen to it back around middle part of the 70s.
what's the Recipe today Jim

👍
Glory Days.
Waggoners Walk, I meant.
Have you got any recordings of Terry from 1980?
+Andrew Dexter Hi Andrew - really sorry, most of my Radio 2 recordings from this era are 1978
+RetroRadioUK Ok, thank you for your reply.
+RetroRadioUK Many thanks. I have to say I've listened to the couple of clips you've posted many, many times during this last week since the tragic news of Terry's passing. My God he was good. My problem was "there was never time" to listen to him. Life & work got in the way. So many regrets!
What a long "drop in"!
Yes, on some of the clips, you could say "way too long"!!! :)
RetroRadioUK Saves needle time I suppose!!!
Knightyknight72 Yes, you've just reminded me - this was the era of Norrie Paramor and the BBC Midland Radio Orchestra popping up across the daytime shows with their "version" of a recent chart hit. My rose-tinted spectacles just fell off... :)
+RetroRadioUK . Music tastes were quite different then; people could sing or play an instrument. Now they look pretty........just.
Here's one of Sir Terry's Hilarious Janet and John Stories:

Ken Bruce was much wittier than Wogan when Ken annoyed Jimbo each morning.
