Forgot to mention in the video but it is a good idea to throw a quart of the appropriate ATF i the converter before install. ALSO here is the link to remove the transmission ruclips.net/video/3vJAojsrfuU/видео.html
I was just going to ask! Thanks for clarifying
thank you.

Great video!
Id like to know, I removed my transmission with the torque converter still bolted onto the flywheel on my sc400 to replace the input shaft seal. When putting the trans back will I have to clock the torque converter so that it lines up with the internal trans pump?
Does anyone know if you change your gear ratio on your truck should you change install a torque converter with a different stall speed or does it affect your torque converter at all
Is there a video showing how you took transmission out? If purchased torque converter how long is reasonable for shop to keep?
Okay I have a question I have looked all over the Internet and I cannot find this part I just saw the video you mention it was called a spindle. I still can't find it I'm looking for what you called , it spindle that goes inside the torque converter cuz mine looks like teeth or gears or file down I am rebuilding the engine and if I could replace this that piece of the transmission. I'm not for sure if it's called a spline or output shaft or what I was wondering if you can help me it's a 96 Sonoma automatic l rwd again is the part where the torque converter that goes into the shaft that mounts to the front of the transmission bell housing . Again you said it was called a spline but I cannot find it
What happens if you damage the seal? Just leaks oil? And how do you inspector not damaged?
I’m getting a tugging feeling and noise once I get to 60mph could it be my torque converter I’ve had the motor and transmission check and no leaks
I have a ve commodore 2007 has a code come up as torque converter dose that mean I have to replace mine
Great video. Thank you.
i'd like to know how to properly open up the transmission and how to bolt it back on. what tension should i be applying?
Is this the same on a '94 Honda Accord lx
My step daughters you tube account! But my name is Mike and I just wanted to tell you that I think you word and explain your self Very proficiently!
Hey thanks a lot for watching Mike!
I had bought a torque converter and haven't gotten around to trying to replace it because life. But I realized it doesn't even spin like the one in the vid. It's a block. Seems it may spin internally but external is all welded. Also has a weird noise when I shake it. Like it's loose inside. Now I don't wanna install it.
Great Video! Straight forward... no BS... Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
hi , I have 2012 dodge grand caravan, and lately I found the flex plate cracked . and I'm going to replace by myself because I can not afford the labor cost .
so i would like to get some advice should or should not do from you before I start tearing down.and wht do i need to do before I mount the new plate on it.
Loc tite and make sure you torque to specs.
what if you dont add any fluid in the torq converter b4 you hunk everything back up, what do you do then?
The trans will start to fill it with fluid so you will need to top up with about a quart, still a good idea to put some in before install
Do you have to reprogram computer if you get an aftermarket converter? 2013 CRV dealer had to install aftermarket converter and now the D light flashes with only 90,000 miles on trans.
No. Aftermarket converter might just be the problem. Thanks for watching!
A question I have a 2007 frontier SE 4.0 with automatic transmission is this the same process to install a new torque converter my truck?
Sure is. Thanks for watching!
Shouldn't my axle input gears or whatever (the place with the seals where you plug in the axles) shouldn't those gears inside spin if the transmission torque converter is seated properly? I was thinking they would spin as I move the torque converter, but maybe I'm wrong.
Thanks for the video!
Not with an automatic transmission.
Very charismatic guy…for me that I know crap..sounds good
Thanks for watching!
Very good vedio EXCEPT you left out the most important thing of all !
When installing a new torque converter you need to pour at least a quart of ATF inside the unit before its installed !
Not bad a greenhorn !
Keep working with them and one day you'll see the big picture 🐒
Great point, I will add the that point! Always nice to have helpful tips :)
The converter has assembly lube in it no need to put fluid in it. The pump will fill it just fine. Been rebuilding transmissions since 1980 and never once put fluid in a new or rebuilt converter.
@@2carpros 😂
@@dalevackar182 and you should fill it like every other mechanic so it dont pull fluid from rest of unit as well as running without fluid till that happens, sorry to hear you are a experienced mechanic who dont get that, knucklehead.
@@usanewsnow2024 I think you're the one that doesn't get it son. If you had any knowledge of how a torque converter and an automatic transmission works you would know that pouring fluid in the converter is okay its just simply not necessary.
Do you have to turn the torque converter three times after in and do I have to put the transmission in before I tight in the scrues in the torque converter
The torque converter has to be fully seated. Then you put the bell housing bolts in then the torque converter nuts/bolts. Thanks for watching!
Good video. Hey man. Question I'm replacing my engine in my car. I have the new engine set up and ready. When the engine is in the hoist I'm able to turn the engine over by the bolt on the harmony balancer. But as soon as I connect the engine to the transmission, the engine is locked up, it won't turn , could a torque converter that is not seates probably cause that ?
Did you figure this out? Also ran into the same problem
do you fill the converter with fluid before putting it on? or just slide it on as in the video?
You don't need to fill it. The transmission will fill it. Thanks for watching!
So that it's not dry on initial start up you should put at least 1 quart into the tc.
@@2carpros good God lol yes put atf in before install spin it a few Times so the fluid dont come out
This makes me cringe lol him not putting the fluid in haha ima stick to my shade tree that’s why I don’t trust a mechanic lol
no ofc thats the transmissions duty itll get the fluid in as soon as ya put ur foot on the pedal
Anyone notice there are no videos of changing torque converters, like the full process like most! Like this guy bt a torque converter takes longer than a 3 min video! So you missed over half of the process
Bro said easy like all it takes is to just pull it out.
What? I literally showed every single step. There isn't a lot to it.
He confused transmission removal with torque converter removal..... simple solution. Watch transmission removal video than this.
Do I install the torque converter on a '94 Honda Accord the same way you would a conventional transmission
Yeah it's the same. Thanks for watching!
4R70W? Great video....
Did you put automatic transmission fluid in that torque converter before sliding it over the pump? It seemed awfully light to have been filled. It will take up several quarts of fluid. Nice video otherwise.
Hi - Great video. Do you have a link to the one you mentioned that shows how to remove the transmission?
ruclips.net/video/3vJAojsrfuU/видео.html Thanks for watching!
How much does it cost to replace a torque converter on a 08 gmc sierra 2500hd approximately?
Just estimate how much it would do to have a real main seal done. Its about the same process except 2 other things. You'll get a good answer that way.
Around $1,000.00 if they don't run into any additional problems.
Forgot the qt. I’m about to put a 3000 stall in my 1986 Corvette. Cause I rebuilt the engine, and put a 526 lift 289 duration. In it New flat top pistons, new set of E-street heads. And my favorite the noisy gear drive. But when I hooked it up to the transmission that had a factory torque converter. Soon as I put it in reverse or drive the engine stalls out and dies. I’m guessing that I would need to put a stall converter in . Can someone help me with this dilemma....🤘

I have 2015 mdx with 145k miles with a bad torque converter. Car shudders between 40mph and 60mph. Should i change the converter now or keep driving like that and rebuild the transmission later? Since the labor is about the same?🤔🤔🤔
Gosh that is really a judgment call. Will a complete transmission rebuild total the vehicle? Honestly, I would just the torque converter done now. Thanks for watching!
Thank i appreciate the response
My Toyota has like a problem shifting to first gear. And between 30-45 It feels like I’m driving on rough road And I’ve been doing research and come to the conclusion that is the torque converter. I am correct? Just want to be sure before spending money on parts
Jose Rodriguez did you replace it? And was the problem fixed?
I'm having the exact same problem as this. Wondering if you've fixed it?
Toyota hiluxes have a clutch that is factory bonded I the front they also have a clutch plate that slides on it. Here in Australia we get them blown up all the time or burnt clutches becuase of towing or ever just getting bogged can burn you converter out. You clutch could be slipping or a bearing has popped and it's eating through your stator. Hahahah check the pan it'll be metalic oil. Converter number.... 2082-8d we reline them with sonax linings..... To-f-1k.... We heavy duty the insides and change sprag all that jazz but 9 times out of ten you'll need two of these converters to make 1 😢🤔😅
I’m guessing you didn’t show getting the transmission off and onto the pallet because it’s super easy right
Oh you might be interested in this video then. ruclips.net/video/3vJAojsrfuU/видео.html Thanks for watching!
😂😂😂 I'm dead
Right
Is it possible to swap out a torque converter without completely removing the transmission?
The bellhousing has the clear the back if the engine. Thanks for watching!
I have a 1990 vw cabriolet I just install an automatic transmission with a rebuilt torque converter but in won't go into gear the car doesn't move what Did I do wrong? Please someone help.thanks in advance.
Yep, sounds like you didn't fully seat the converter into the front pump for the transmission so it is now broken. So pull the transmission back out and it needs to be repaired. Thanks for watching!
@@2carpros thanks for replying, I really appreciate it.
We need the video on removing the transmission before we can take out the torque converter. Nice video but waiting for the transmission removal video now.
No need to wait! It is right here ruclips.net/video/3vJAojsrfuU/видео.html Thanks for watching!
@@2carpros thanks brother
great guy i put my transmission in and found out it has a bad torq converter
So you didn't need a transmission correct? Just a torque converter to begin with?
I need this can I drive till I come up with money or will it mess my car up
Mine hasn't self destructed or even gotten noticeably worse. Don't wait forever, though.
I’m gonna have fun cause I think I need a new flywheel and torque converter or well I know I do now but anyway the previous owners broke off a bold head that bolts the converter to flywheel and they ended up welding the converter to the flywheel and I’m pretty sure they fucked up the converter with that so I have to manage to get the torque converter off the flywheel some how and then the flywheel
How much to repair with labor cost est. Please
The labor would be right around 500 and the converter would be right around 150. Thanks for watching!
Where do you add the trans fluid to prime the tc?
Yeah, I been taught to fill it up as much as possible without it spilling when standing upright, and once assembled pour the remaining fluid down dipstick sleeve.
Michael McAtee most automatic transmissions need 3-4 quarts in the converter before installing. Depending on make and model, a total of 12 to 16 quarts in all. You need to push and spin at the same time to insure all the splines lock in also. Some will click 2 and others will click 3
What about if its stuck on the engine
Like the transmission is out and the converter is stuck on the flex plate? I'd hose the fasteners down with penetrating fluid let it seep in and use a long implement on the fasteners. Thanks for watching!
Do u have to fill the torque converter with fluid??
no
yes, especially if it takes more than 4 quart ,because then at start up it sucks all the oil out of transmission and transmission pump run dry and it kills you transmission! your pan can hold between 2.5 to 5 quart depends on you car, torque converter is where most of you transmission fluid is not the pan
I got a 46re how mine quartz do i put in it
Only thing I’d do is replace that oil seal if putting a new torque converter they are cheap and easy to replace
👍
you forgot to put fluid in the converter before installing it.
and what do you see: ford transmission oil....
Did he just fix a transmission while in crisscross apple sauce position?
I got a 2005 nissan maxima That dies when you put it in gear I'm thinking it's the torque converter
Yeah could be, but check out this article first. www.2carpros.com/articles/stall-at-idle Might be an easier solution. Thanks for watching!
Hi did the same way now all gear go forward no reverse, neutral and reverse also go forward
Easier than I thought. El yay Yaya
Thanks for watching!
@@2carpros thanks for the video!
@@2carpros so I'm guessing it's possible to take the transmission out without unbolting the torque converter from the flywheel?
-SMP- scientific method perspective you can but it can be very tedious depending on how it’s seated in your vehicle
Bad move. Why did you not replace the seal? When you have a gearbox out, always replace front seal.
I asked my transmission shop How much to change the torque converter. And he says it’s a big job they have to do valve-body work just to swap out the torque converter. ?? They said $900 I can buy a reman for $1100
That doesn't sound right. You just remove the transmission and swap the torque converter. Shouldn't have anything to do with the valve body. Thanks for watching!
Where’s your video on removing the transmission?
Oh I have it right here actually ruclips.net/video/3vJAojsrfuU/видео.html Thanks for watching!
4r100 looks like a diesel...as it only has 4 feet. You van now get extra low stall 4r100 kits with a better multi clutch set up even sonax offers better hubs with new oil flow holes so the it lifts the clutch plates and doesn't burn them out. Or you can grt the six studded heavy duty witch everything in side is just brazed 😊
Most Mopar automatics have only 4 studs.
@@donbirren9401 the new kits have six
That is a 4R70W transmission used in F150s Crown Vics and some Lincolns

...the torque converter on my dad's IS the flywheel too.. so what.. TF is our situation. It is quite literally tig welded together
