    I goofed and didn't have any fresh onion or garlic to do this recipe! So I mixed dried onion flakes and garlic powder into a rub. Coated chicken and seared in olive oil. Poured in honey and soy sauce and continued using the recipe you showed. The chicken and sauce rocked! Where there's a will there's a way!

  • @lindaclark4997
    @lindaclark4997 4 года назад +55

    If you sear the chicken first and then take them out and then saute the garlic and onion, you will get more of a sear. Just add the chicken back into pot before adding the honey and soy sauce.

    So I made this for my family tonight and they loved it! It was really close to KATSU chicken.. I did run out of sauce since I had rice people wanted to smother so I just whipped up some honey, soy sauce, garlic powder, onion powder tossed it in the microwave then added some flour and water to thicken it up. It was pretty close to the original sauce that it worked for a quick fix. Thank you! I am going to try your chicken dumplings recipe soon as well.

    • @cosmicbird8802

      After the chicken is cooked, I removed the chicken and added a 6oz can of pineapple juice. Then I thickened it. Gave plenty of sauce to smother the rice!

      An extra inner pot may be the answer. I use my extra inner pot quite a bit! You can cook the rice, remove the and cover the pot with foil to keep it warm, then cook the chicken or vice versa in the other inner pot. Or maybe grab a 3 quart for side dishes (veggies, rice, etc)? Safe travels, Molly Smith!! Debra :-)

    I'm a young lady learning how to cook chicken in my Instant Pot particularly because I tend to pressure cook it too long. I usually end up with soft chicken strands at the end. :(
    I've been looking through videos on RUclips, and yours has been one of the most enjoyable so far! :D I really enjoyed watching you. I find your demeanor so cheerful and pleasant. Kinda reminds me of Elle Woods from Legally Blonde with the mix of girliness and competence but in the kitchen rather than in the courtroom. :P You're a delight to watch. Subscribed! Hope I end up with better chicken than I did earlier today hahaha.
    My mother passed away a few years ago and didn't teach me how to cook, so I'm groping in the dark teaching myself. I'm single, but I want to be ready to feed my family when the day comes. My mother had some serious faults and went through a lot in life and her marriage, but if there is something I could give her full credit for, it's that we never missed a meal and always had good food at home. It's a really daunting task because I'm having trouble just keeping myself fed, balancing work, housekeeping, and social life. The urge to not just buy takeout and/or the temptation to just settle for something less healthy is incredibly strong hahaha! I like my independence, but I miss her a lot. Thanks for making the learning experience more enjoyable. :) You seem like such a nice person, and it soothes my heart a bit. I hope I'll be a good wife and mother one day.

      Hi, sorry about your mom, I know it must be hard. I'm in my 50's and I never learned to cook either. I can't blame it all on my mom, I never really asked her nor was really interested, which I now regret. If I could redo my life, I'd surely change many things! It's great you are learning to cook! Take care and good luck..

      Aww I’m in similar shoes as you, by being single and learning to cook. The instant pot has given me the freedom to learn how to cook and it’s exciting to finally be eating good healthy food at home instead of through a drive thru.

    Hi 👋! I’m new to instant pot cooking. I just bought mine a few weeks ago and have used it twice so far. Do u wait for it to preheat when using sauté before adding anything so it doesn’t burn? I gotta burn alert when making chili the other day right after it was done preheating and I already had everything in the pot and changed it to pressure cook. I thought i’d start with a recipe I’ve made tons of times. Tx 😀

    • @TheLastMinuteCook
      @TheLastMinuteCook  4 года назад

      Hi Hollies Hobbies! If you start with a saute, you do not need to wait for it to heat before adding your ingredients. It is the same as working on the stovetop when using that function. But, you will find it works best to add some liquid and scrape the bottom with your spoon when you have completed the saute portion of your recipe . Hit "cancel" to stop it from heating. Then complete the steps in your recipe for pressure cooking. If the machine senses that bits are stuck when it's trying to come to pressure, it will give a 'burn' signal. So, it's best to scrape up the bits as best as you can before asking it to pressurize. I hope this helps! Thanks for your question! Debra :-) ps. to help you further, here is a link to my chili using the Instant Pot: lastminutecook.com/instant-pot-ultra-chili/

    It looks to be a simple and tasty dish. I would have mixed the honey and soy sauce together in one measuring cup. It would have made it easier to get all the honey out and one less thing to wash. I tried that bottled minced garlic once and I felt that it loses flavor. I would mince fresh garlic. I think it's better to sear the chicken first then remove it to a plate. Sweating the onions and garlic after searing the chicken will help deglaze the fond from the pot.

    HI Debra, I love your videos..you are a great cook, super nice person and great teacher..I made this recipe yesterday and the chicken was dry
    as hell...I put 10 chicken breats in the pot and increased the cooking time by 1 minute ..thinking with the extra meat in the pot 1 min would be if anything low... did that 1 extra minute cause the dryness in the chicken...for 10 breats what cook time do you recommend? Thanks, Tim. p.s. the delicious sauce saved the meal! lolol

    • @TheLastMinuteCook
      @TheLastMinuteCook  5 лет назад +1

      Tim Fitzpatrick, first of all, you are awesome for the compliments before the concerns :-) Okay, here's my tip on the extra chicken: no extra time is needed IF they're not stacked. Stacking them will cause uneven cooking. If you can get the chicken in there in as close to a single layer as possible, (slight overlap maybe) you'll be golden. ALSO, increase the sauce and make sure the honey is drizzled over each chicken. And finally, if you sear them too long, then they will cook too much before pressure cooking, resulting in overcooked chicken. I hope these tips help!! And I hope you try it again and get perfectly cooked and awesome chicken! Debra :-)

    Great tutorial! I made it and it tasted great, but the chicken was a bit dry. Maybe I cooked or sautéed it a tad too long?

    • @TheLastMinuteCook
      @TheLastMinuteCook  4 года назад +1

      Yes that could be it - a quick sear is all you need otherwise it will tend to cook too much on that first step. Thanks, Adrian Schell! Debra :-)

      You would need to cook the rice separately for this recipe. Thanks for asking!

    Looks good. Could you make the rice at the same time in the Instant Pot? I was wondering about adding any veggies like bean sprouts, water chestnuts, and/or sugar snap peas. Would the timing be the same or would you add them to the sauce after the chicken is done and out of the pot. Love how simple this is, thank you.

    • @TheLastMinuteCook
      @TheLastMinuteCook  5 лет назад

      Hi Stefanie Staniak! If you’d like to add veggies to the sauce, you can add them without the chicken. Complete all steps, then add some veggies and cook. The veggies you use will have varying cook times. Some need to be set at 0 minutes (sounds strange but it works!), and some 1-2 mins. Heartier veggies could go in at the beginning with the chicken with no change in cooking time. I hope this helps! Debra :-)

    Thank you for this SIMPLE, and easy instant pot chicken recipe . I make this once or twice a week! BUT , I do 1/2 soy sauce and 1/2 beef broth, and 4 tsp. garlic , then, I cook for just 6 mins, and it comes out really moist, and DELICIOUS, thanks Debra .

      UPDATE: I took a chance and made the recipe, but a little different...and with the above-mentioned chicken parts. I did saute on each side for about 5 minutes, turned off the saute feature and removed the grease, then put the chicken back in the pot, poured in a bottle of Store bought Honey/Garlic sauce...cooked it on high pressure for 20 minutes...and natural release for 8 minutes. The chicken was fully cooked...and fall off the bone in some areas...I cheated with the honey/Garlic sauce by using a honey/garlic sauce from a jar...but I was curious how it would taste....it was delish... plus it made it soooo easy. (there are so many different types of bottled sauces...I can have a different tasting chicken each time)

    Well, I’m a new instant pot user. I tried this recipe and my chicken came tough. The chicken was frozen, and I thaw out in a plastic bag in warm water. I had 4 small pieces of chicken breast. I tried to pressure cook for 5 mins. Because the pieces were so small? I took one piece out and taste it. I’m not sure but I thought it wasn’t done so I put them back in for another 3 minutes. It was not too bad, but the chicken was tough. The sauce was good. What did I do wrong? Thanks

    • @TheLastMinuteCook
      @TheLastMinuteCook  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Diana Maksel! I wouldn't recommend frozen for this recipe because you'll miss the delicious searing stage, but if you try it, make sure the frozen chicken isn't stacked (lay in single layer - if they're stuck together, run them under water until you can separate them). Try 16 minutes for frozen. If you try it, definitely let me know! Debra :-)

    Onion eyes will be gone forever with a $13 OPOLAR 5 Inch Desk Fan with Timer, USB or AA Battery Operated, 3 Speeds, Extra Quiet from Amazon. I've been using one for several years. How many onions will you slice when the holidays come around this year. Friends I've given these fans to love them. Give one a try. One sits on my desk and I use it often in addition to slicing onions.

    I just made this exactly as demonstrated in the video and my chicken was very rubbery and almost inedible (husband will eat almost anything and only stomached down 1/2 a chicken breast trying to be nice!). What could have gone wrong? Also, any suggestions for giving the flavor a bit of a "kick"?

    • @TheLastMinuteCook
      @TheLastMinuteCook  4 года назад

      Hi Lisa Cox! I would guess either the thickness of your chicken played a big part and/or how long you seared it.. The instant pot is a tool and since we are all using variables (timing, food thickness, etc) we find that recipes need adjusting based on our own additions. I hope you try this recipe again - it really is delicious!!! I'm sorry it didn't work out the first go 'round. Thanks for reaching out! Debra :-)

    • @TheLastMinuteCook
      @TheLastMinuteCook  4 года назад

      Sure, Lisa Cox! I hope you enjoy playing with your recipes - with this one, be careful with overcooking. You can always add more time by checking the meat and starting it again with an extra minute or two if needed. Overcooked will definitely make it dry and chewy. Debra :-)

      Hello Sandy L. Yes, just try not to overlap the chicken too much or it will change the cooking time. Glad you like the recipe! Thanks for commenting.
