  • This is a vocal coach reaction to ‪@Thevoiceplay‬'s Oogie Boogie song. I'm not surprised that you guys requested this so much - it's absolutely amazing! I loved the characters that the guys became and the environment they used to draw us into the world of the performance. I think this is lowest I've heard Geoff sing. Comment below if you have any more examples from the "crust of the earth" 🤣

E1 is the first floor for Geoff. His basement is in the 0’s. He just released God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen which he arranged for himself and the “other three Geoffs”. He finishes that on an A0. His top note in the song is an A4 so a full 4 octaves just because he can.

Tim Burton’s movie “A Nightmare Before Christmas” is a stop motion, animated musical about the King of Halloween town who discovers and wants to take over Christmas town. VoicePlay has done several songs from this musical. They love their vocal mini stage plays. My favorite at the moment is a non-theatrical cover of “Can’t Help Falling in Love”. But if you need more theater, try “Little Mermaid Medley”

Always my favorite, this arrangement is epic. Btw, Oogie boogie in the animation kind of looks like a creepy badly sewn potato sack ghost but Geoff pulls it off 🤣 Layne plays a ghost dog with a glowing nose, and the other three are like little monster kids that are the boogie man's minions in old-fashioned Halloween costumes lol. Listen to their cover of This Is Halloween or Kidnap the Sandy Claws from the same film. Also What's This though that one is less costumey but has some cool makeup effects.

Thanks for your reaction, I appreciated it. Layne's character in the movie is actually a dog with a long, pointed nose. Don't remember if the movie version lights up, or if Layne did that to make it look more pronounced. Would love to hear you respond to the 3 recent minis before yesterday's mini release of Mr. Sandman. They're pretty much all sound effects, and arranged by Layne. Some of it showed up in their last full length release, their stylish re-think of the Fiddler on the Roof classic, "If I were a Rich Man/Girl". (And go ahead, respond to Mr. Sandman, too, it's great fun and only about 50 seconds.)

As an avid fan of The Nightmare Before Christmas, I'm here to confirm that Zero's nose does indeed glow! Towards the end of the movie, there's a riff on the classic reindeer tale in which Zero's bright orange Jack-o-lantern nose leads Jack's sleigh through a thick fog, just as Rudolph did in the original story.
(They also demonstrate this light-up feature earlier in the film during a game of fetch, where Zero uses his nose to illuminate a dark tree stump in search of a thrown toy)

Well now, you don't seem to have any Pentatonix reaction videos. Either because you have watched them, and did not record a reaction video, or you have not heard of them yet. I would have assumed that a Home Free, or a Voice Play fan would have recommended them as well. Pentatonix is the A Capella group that brought the A Capella with a beatboxer to the forefront. They are worth going down their rabbit hole. For starters I would suggest the following: Hallelujah (with over 600 million views), Sound of Silence, Bohemian Rhapsody, Daft Punk Medley, Mary Did You Know, 90's Dance music medley. There are 100's more, and all are ear candy.

Off topic of this video but I noticed your channel is called cover coach and if reacting to covers is your thing I'd like to suggest checking out something from Floor Jansen. She can sing in many different styles and even multiple languages. She is a vocalist for the band Nightwish but has been putting out many great covers on her RUclips and also has some incredible performances on the Dutch show Beste Zangers.

@@CoverCoach hmmmm….you REALLY need to check out Angelina. She’s a child prodigy. Watch her black and white cover of “I put a spell on you” in which she is 9 years old. When you see her writing notes and the band reading, she is giving them instructions. She won Norway’s got Talent at 7years old! She also was on AGT Champions and sung (and arranged) a version of “Bohemian Rhapsody” that surviving members of Queen congratulated her on the performance. I think she’s 15 now and was recently signed by Republic Records. She’s also the youngest published author in Norway I believe. Her original song “Million Miles” is incredible.

They are singing as cartoon characters from Tim Burton's movie. You noted that you follow acapella groups of Home Free and Voiceplay, but have you ever listened to Pentatonix ? They are the GOLD standard of acapella groups (having revolutionized that genre)? Check them out !!

Hey Nick :) I'm so glad you brought Pentatonix up! :) I love them! And you're so right - they brought acapella onto the digital stage, where it had certainly never been before. What's your favourite song that they've made? As a musician, I started writing by orchestral film scoring and classical music, so when they released their evolution of music, I fell in love with them. Have a fun day :)

@@CoverCoach Every video they've made are all SUPER fantastic...but to view their range of talent these will certainly blow your mind...btw, they have over 19 MILLION subscribers and almost 7.5 BILLION views to their RUclips channel:
      Hallelujah - nearly 650,000,000 views
Bohemian Rhapsody - considered the best cover ever done of Queen
Daft Punk - first of three Grammy's won (others...Sugar Plum Fairy; Jolene w/Dolly Parton)
Evolution of series (Michael Jackson, Ariana Grande, Beyonce)
Sound of Silence - first video including Matt (replacing Avi)
Recent ones - 90s Dance Medley,
NOTE - THEY NEVER RECORD ANYTHING THAT THEY CAN'T SING AT CONCERTS OR FOR THEIR WORLD TOURS
LIVE recordings - AHA Singapore (Mitch), Standing By (Avi), Gold (cover of Kiara), POP Spring concert (2016) - Crack, Can't Sleep Love, Evolution of MJ, Water), Hallelujah - @ NY @ Xmas, Coffee in Bed (Jimmy Kimmel show), Seasons of Love (PBS show - 4th of July)

@@CoverCoach To answer your question...YES, their music is creative and fantastic as they do things others haven't. The 3 on the left kidnap Santa Claus (who they think is the big bad of Christmas town called 'Sandy Claws') and took him to the Halloween big bad, Oogie Boogie, who is not intimidated by the man brought before him. (The guy on the right was dressed as a seperate character who does not exist in the original scene (origonal was Santa, oogie boogie and the 3 on the left)

Geoff hits an E1 at the end. I'm 77 and seen a lot of operas and other voiced performances. I have to say that was the lowest note I've ever heard come from a human body.
