@@marshayoung9387YES! Please react to Creep!! And since Halloween is coming soon - VP owns Halloween! Please check out Hide and Seek and Friends on the Other Side! I have now subscribed to hear more VP, Pentatonix and Home Free (the other next level talented a capella group!) And because you know our adorable & sassy Cesar!💜LOL!
Geoff's lowest note in this is actually a B0 (that low drone right under J.'s opening vocal line). Including subharmonics, his range is right about 5 octaves- you still haven't heard him go high yet. With regards to their video production, as well as anything else- they always post credits with the video which will tell you a lot about how they do this work. As someone else has mentioned, it's mostly them, as they are a 100% independent group. If you want to hear a really fascinating arrangement- and with Spooky Season coming soon!- you ought to check out their cover of In the Hall of the Mountain King. Yep, the one by Grieg. Another video where they go hard, and the vocal arrangement itself is one of the most creative, unexpected things you'll ever hear.
@@throga With VoicePlay, no, because they tend to showcase each artist more or less equally. The closest I think you come is their cover of Oogie Boogie's Song, from Nightmare Before Christmas, which features Geoff as the lead, of course. But if you really want to hear him, he does have a solo channel, and I'd recommend his cover of I See Fire, or his cover of Blackbird. And just a heads up- Geoff goes just as hard on his videos as VoicePlay does, and he's also doing all his own vocal arrangements (he and Layne share this job for VoicePlay). He also mutlitracks his vocals, and clones himself in video. You'll see. 😉 *Blackbird is an earlier video, so he's not going quite as hard there, but considering he was shooting it in his home during the pandemic, with his wife as his crew (not too unusual; Kathy is his and VoicePlay's production manager, and she does a little of everything), so in that light it's still fairly impressive.
@@throga Geoff's I see Fire definitely shows off his range the best. He still goes higher and lower in other songs than in that one, but not in the same song. But it definitely showcases not just how high and how low he can go, but also gives each range a proper solo moment to show off his voice in each of those ranges.
@@throga I vote for I See Fire from Geoff’s channel to see his range as he clones himself. You can also see him sing higher in their Queen in 5 Minutes Medley but that was before Cesar. Same with Oogie Boogie’s Song. Everything Voiceplay has done is great, you can’t go wrong!
My very favorite thing is finding reactors seeing/hearing Voiceplay for the very first time. They are absolutely magnificent. Eli created the backgrounds and they used giant LED screens. They do every genre, and do it brilliantly. Totally independent, no label, no manager. They've considered that, but then would lose their ability to create what they wish. For Geoff's full range, I'd try their Little Mermaid Medley. It was pre-Cesar, sorry about that. They lost their high tenor in early 2020, he left for undisclosed personal reasons and has not been replaced. Eli has moved into "hold my beer" category of tenor. J None was with them from 2018 to 2021 when he was recruited by the US Navy to sing with them. Just promoted and transferred from the Pacific Northwest to DC. Cesar replaced him. They are still one man short and used featured artists on a regular basis. Their arrangements are usually done by either Geoff or Layne, trading off month to month. Eli has been collaborator for a few and has done two himself. Eleanor Rigby and Creep. When you get to Geoff's solo work, his most recent is Folsom Prison Blues just after he did I See Fire. Pick anything, it doesn't matter for Geoff and Voiceplay, you will love it. Trust me. Also, pre-Cesar - Tennessee Whiskey.
Dollars to donuts I bet they're keeping J's spot open until he's discharged from the Navy... the good side in the meantime is that we get to enjoy a whole lot of featured artists :) Every single feature they've brought in has blended so well with them, you'd never know they're not full time members of the group
Welcome to the world of VoicePlay. You obviously know of Cesar before this. Another song where Cesar really shines is in their rendition of I Can't Make You Love Me. Miracle of Sound who composed this gave VP 10 out of 10 alehorns for creativity. Geoff hits B0 thrice, first time holding it 15 seconds. The sound of the creaking door as JNone enters is all Layne. Listen to their cover of Halo. The composer of that almost drooled over their efforts as he guested The Charismatic Voice. Cesar is singing the part he sang himself when he composed it. Be careful to listen to the whole outro with Scott Porter, a former original member, back for that performance.
It's all a capella. And it's all them. Yes Geoff goes deep here but he has a five octave range, and is really smooth throughout his range. They have well over 1800 patrons now, only the highter levels are shown on screen.
If you want to check out Cesar, take a listen to Creep. Yet again they do it all by themselves. Look at the credits. When VP sing, they do it together. They help eachother to shine. If you take a look at Creep, you will understand.
@@patriciaschuman4205 absolutely! Cesar's voice in both I Can't Make You Love Me, and Creep, is simply stunning. Not only is his voice so gorgeous in those songs, he's incredibly skilled at portraying emotions on film. (Everyone is quite good at emotive performances, it's just that Cesar is uniquely talented in this regard)
Miracle Of Sound messaged Voice Play and told them it was the most creative cover, well done lads, I raise you 10 alehorns out of 10. That is the highest compliment you can give someone. Geoff spent many hours ( wrecking his voice ) as he calls it to help him sing even lower. The air conditioning wasn't working in studio they were in for the shoot . That & the heavy clothing they were wearing made for an unbearably hot day. Now that is true dedication.
Geoff does 3 sustained B0s in this. The first one is a 14 second B0 subharmonic. Eli (rhymes with jelly) is the bald high tenor also known as the rock god. Cesar also has a lovely range and a lot of versatility with it (listen to I Can't Make You Love Me). Layne makes amazing vocal percussion - and is also a classically trained violinist as well as having a beautiful voice. Not that he shares it much with us - twice in 3 yrs in Warriors (Imagine Dragons) and Nothing Else Matters (Metallica) but he has earned the moniker of VioLayne in addition to the Carrot Lord. He loves to tease J None with those carrots. J None was the baritone until the US Navy made him an offer he couldn't refuse. He's in the middle of a 5 yr stint and just got an upgrade that moved him from the Pacific Northwest to Washington DC. He has been coming when he can to keep his hand in. Friends on the Other Side was right after bootcamp, early this yr he came for Nothing Else Matters (Metallica). I heard people say you can't do Metallica as an a cappella at least until they heard VoicePlay. He was also here for In The Air Tonight (Phil Collins). Geoff has a 5 octave plus range. A0 growl, B0 subharmonic, F1 full chest, Bb5 is new in the mini Peaches. You can pick anything of theirs and it's marvelous but it seems like the last 2 yrs has put them in a class by themselves. VoicePlay has no contracts, they keep their creativity under their control. Usually Layne and Geoff swap out the production of the upcoming video, from arranging, audio, camera work, staging, costuming, makeup, pre-mix audio (Ed Boyer does the final mix for all the top a cappella groups). Eli did the arranging of Eleanor Rigby and recently In the Air Tonight. He does all the lighting, green screens, computer generated backgrounds. Geoff's wife is the production manager. The first music I heard on RUclips was Geoff doing the Monster Mash. I had to hear more and found him in VoicePlay as they were doing Hoist the Colours. I fell hard into that rabbit hole. I'm hoping you will indulge all of us fans and grant us the rights to hear your first time on ANY of this group's music or Geoff's. It like taking someone with you that has never seen the Grand Canyon, the wonder is shared.
BJ, Thank you so much for this information. I found Geoff, then VoicePlay and I am in love forever. (The Hu are a close second still.) Geoff's voice and horsing around along with Eli's voice and character keep me watching over and over and over and over and over and over and ... well, you get the idea. I am so lost on many things, like "Geoff has a 5 octave plus range. A0 growl, B0 subharmonic, F1 full chest, Bb5 is new in the mini Peaches." My 72 y/o brain is more along the lines of "I like a full chest on a man and love peaches, especially peach cobbler!" Comments like yours give me ideas to look up and continue educating myself. Thank you again and hope to find more to read.
@@jalyc A0 is the lowest note on a piano, and B0 is the white key next to it. C1 starts a new octave and the notes C, C# or Db (same note for the black keys depending on the key that the song is done in (sharps or flats), white key again D, black key is D# or Eb, white key E and white key F is next, then black key F# or Gb, white key G, black key G# or Ab, white key A, black key A# or Bb, white key B, next white key C starts the next octave. This repeats all the way up the 88 keys with the addition of a number (as in A0 , B0, C1 etc.next C will be C2. Occasionally you will find people that will label the 2 sets of white keys together like so - white key B next to the white key C (no black key) so the B can also be called Cb and the C can be called B#, same format for the E and F no black key here either so E can be called Fb, and F can be called E#. Mostly folk only do that when they have an unusual key signature so mostly the folk you see on RUclips just call them B, C, E, F.
A lot of what I want to say has been mentioned, but I just wanted to expand on it a bit. The Viking video that came first for VP was My Mother Told Me. In that video, Eli also created the backgrounds the characters are in. However, it's more of a flat, 2-D kind of feel. Eli always said that if he got another chance, he thought it would be awesome to be able to see more of the environments, have a more 3-D type of feel. So when Valhalla Calling came around, he got to do just that. In My Mother and Valhalla, Eli used Unreal Engine, yes the software used to create video games, to create his environments. In Valhalla, VP were able to go to Vu Studio and utilize their space which could project Eli's environment creations on this giant led wall, and their special camera that captures the footage to look as though they are in a tavern, or on a cliffside overlooking an ocean. Some of the props and the tables were real, everything else was the 3-D environment. But, also, Eli then took that footage and he put it together for the final video. Eli has also been learning for a couple of years now and doing the lighting for not only VP videos, but many of Geoff's solo videos as well. As you found out from Cesar, the drum sounds are all Layne. He creates them, and yes, they use layering and after effects, but the initial sounds all come from him. There are occasions where they'll use a sound effect, like a low booming sound, but they are very open about that. Layne and Geoff usually split arranging duties, whoever arranges comes up with the video concept including set design and costuming. Also, the guys will put together the first pass of the mix for the song, but do send it off to Ed Boyer for final mixing. If they have more complicated makeup looks, like in this video (and honestly way more intense in other videos), they bring in Rick Underwood. Geoff's solo channel is also amazing. One thing to note is that he does not do a cappella on his channel. He incorporates instrumentation to get to do something different from VP. However, all of that arranging and instrumentation is done by him. He can play piano but will use plug-ins for other instruments and sound design in his videos. I'm looking forward 🤞🏻to more VP and Geoff reactions.
Great reaction! I love that you focus on Cesar. All the guys are freaking incredible, but I feel like he sometimes gets overlooked because so much is going on. He is an amazing vocalist, voice actor, and actor in general, and deserves some kudos.
Eli (the tenor) did the backgrounds for this in Unreal Engines. It was then played on huge LED screens. Eli also does their lighting work. Whoever arranges (in this case Layne) also is responsible for costuming, set, direction, video editing and all but the final vocal edit. (That goes to Ed Boyer, one of the best in the business for acapella. You’ll see his name on many PTX and Home Free videos also.). Rick Underwood usually does their makeup (when needed). It’s not as theatrical, but I would suggest checking out Nothing Else Matters. You’ll get to see more of Layne’s hidden talents. And - especially this time of year - I would strongly urge you to see Hall of the Mountain King. They not only don’t use instruments, they don’t use words. But their story line comes through anyway! And the costuming and makeup are terrific!
Loved that you got to speak directly to Cesar to ask him those questions! Was wonderful hearing him! He also is my favorite tone, although I do also love ALL of VoicePlay
I was one of the people who requested you react to VoicePlay so thank you for making my day! I really hope you will do more, they are my favorite accapella group due to their creativity and unique voices. ❤
VoicePlay and Geoff Castellucci are my fave music channels on RUclips! Can't get enough of the theater kids of acapella!! Also, want to shoutout Layne who co-owns Pattycake Productions which, in addition to VP videos, puts out their own great Disney-inspired content.
@@thisismetoday7423 He is such a personality! I really enjoy watching the shorts as they’re not as disciplined and he really gets to sneak in his little version of sass!
You can't go wrong with anything Voiceplay does. For spooky season check out their cover of Hide and Seek (Ding Dong) ft Lauren Paley the stairwell siren. If you want Cesar to break your heart, check out I Can't Make You Love Me. To hear Geoff's range with Voiceplay check out Oogie Boogie's Song. And to watch Cesar be silly check out Drunken Sailor. For Geoff's solo stuff, I'd recommend I See Fire from The Hobbit (Desolation of Smaug) or Folsom Prison Blues. If you check out the video descriptions they tell you who did what. Watching eith captions can be fun because they often put fun little Easter eggs in there. And always watch til the Patron list because sometimes there's extras after the official video ends.
It'd be remiss of me to not also toss in the recommendation to watch Ain't No Sunshine on his solo channel as well... of his solo work, that is my most favorite :)
Don't forget Creep! Cesar was front and center with an absolutely devastating performance in that one. He also held his own better than he usually gets credit for in Hoist the Colours, which was an all-around outstanding performance.
Love this reaction. Voiceplay are my absolute favourite acapella group. You can’t go wrong with anything from them. If you want to hear more of Geoffs range I’d recommend his solo channel I see Fire is awesome also Folsom Prison Blues. Or from Voiceplay he shows some of his range in Oogie Boogie song or If I were a rich man/girl feat. Ashley Dianne is awesome too.
And check out his Ghost Riders in the Sky for a rundown in the notes on the names of the different Geoffs -- a take on the different ways his name has been misspelled and mispronounced. The first appearance of Daryl.
Cesar is an absolute gem. He just has all the feels: from the naïve prince in Friends On The Other Side, SO snarky in Running Up That Hill and Good 4U, a maniacal Pirate or Viking as needed, and an absolute heartbreaker in I Can't Make You Love Me. Everyone in that group has enough acting/singing/arranging/production talent for 4 people, he's a perfect fit.
Great reaction Please react to voiceplay hoist the colours Personnally Eli (the bald guy, and his name prononce Ellie) is my favorite i love his rock tenor voice
This is a follow up (sequel) to My Mother Told Me, which is also absolutely amazing and totally epic. They used the same costumes here as they did there.
Layne is the beatbox. He does roughly 50% of the arrangements, and Geoff, the bass does the other 50%. Once in a while Eli (tenor) or someone "outside" will do one, but most are either Layne or Geoff.
Excellent reaction, I really enjoyed that. There are plenty of other A Cappella groups who are really talented, but VoicePlay is on a whole other level. The cream of the crop! If I see you’re going to do more VoicePlay reactions I’ll be happy to drop you a sub!
@@throga I definitely subbed, love to see new folks discover VoicePlay for the first time (or Geoff Castellucci, the bass singer, who has his own personal youtube that inevitably leads the viewer to find the other) He does a bunch of solo covers, and his videos are just as good as VP's) If I may be so bold as to suggest a list of songs to react to: VoicePlay - Oogie Boogie Song I Can't Make You Love Me (Cesar is focused a lot in this one, bring some kleenex) Creep Seven Nation Army Little Mermaid Medley Halo Theme (Geoff hits some B0s in this one, be sure to watch the video to the end where Scott is speaking) Nothing Else Matters The Dragonborn Comes In the Hall of the Mountain King (would be great to react to for Halloween, their Halloween game is on point!) If I Were A Rich Man/Girl (Geoff goes from the basement all the way up into the clouds in a single breath, then immediately plunges down to the center of the earth lol) Geoff Castellucci - Ain't No Sunshine Misty Mountain (from the Hobbit) I See Fire (continuation with the same Geoff dwarves from Misty Mountain) Shenandoah Sixteen Tons House of the Rising Sun There are SOOOO many amazing songs between VoicePlay and Geoff, but I don't want to overwhelm you more than I already have with the above mentioned songs :) I look forward to seeing more reactions to these guys in the future!
You've been introduced to Pentatonix and now VoicePlay. After a few more VoicePlay songs, I recommend adding the 3rd member of the Golden Acapella Trifecta, Home Free. PTX are the popular kids VoicePlay are the theater kids Home Free are the country boys
If my mind don´t fool me around this is a piece by Miracle of Sound (very good) inspired by the computer game Assassins Cred. I love fantasy books and as a Swede I, of course, love the viking theme. 😄 VoicePlay is incredible and I love most of their productions but this and "The Dragonborn comes" is still my fav.
I would suggest you try Home Free which has an extensive body of work on RUclips. For one thing, their bass (Tim Foust) has a range of G0-A5. He helped Geoff expand his (Geoff's) lower register. Austin Brown, the high tenor, has his own channel on RUclips. Adam Chance (known as Chance), the baritone/bass, has a TikTok channel. Rob Lundquist, the lower tenor, is classically trained in opera; he and Austin have a rendition of Nessun Dorma on Austin's channel. The last member of the group, Adam Rupp, is a world-class beatboxer and is a co-founder of the group
You need to listen VP’s Phil Collins cover of “In the air Tonight”. Cesar is fantastic (actually all of them are) and you will get Jeff’s sub harmonics and J.None’s smooth tenor/baritone and Eli’s rock god voice and finally Layne - beatboxer extrodinaire, tenor singer (very brief) he plays violin too.🥰
They are great. Cesar would be the newest full-time member. Eli, Laine and Frost Giant, I meant Geoff have been together since the beginning. You have to watch Bruno. Cesar holding an umbrella and Geoff wearing.... I won't spoil it. Love the reaction. Very cool you guys know Cesar.
Hope you’ll do more Voice Play, and if you’ve done VP and Pentatonix, you kind of have to do Home Free as well. Most vocal reactors start with “Man of Constant Sorrow”. More Voice Play, please!
You should check out Creep, In The Air Tonight and Seven Nation Army. So many more, but these would get you started. Thanks for the reaction, enjoyed it!!
First time watching one of your reactions. I love VoicePlay and their interpretations of the songs they choose. They have such great ideas and do all the work themselves. Each part of the team has songs they've arranged. Was a great touch getting Cesar on the phone. Great job guys! I will definitely be back.
Love that you know Cesar, and talked to him during this! I can’t figure out how Layne made the creaking door sound. That did not sound like a human voice. But apparently it was.
Yes, we are all waiting for him to get that last note... in the 4 years I have been following them, they have only gotten better. I especially love it now that they do not really have to stress about things, and can focus on the music. The last 2 years have changed so much for them. By the way, both Geoff's "Jakes Lament" from Nightmare Before Christmas and Voiceplay's "Hellfire" from the Disney film Hunchback of Notre Dame have dropped... and they are both demonstrations of his absolutely insane range.
Awesome reaction guys. Was awesome hearing Cesar's voice as well. He's my second favorite behind Geoff. I fell in love with him the first time I watched him in Dragonborn Comes Skyrim 1½ years ago. He has such a beautiful soft voice. And I love his sassiness.
Many of Miracle of Sound's songs are inspired by Video games, TV shows, or movies, this. Valhalla Calling is inspired by Assassin's Creed Valhalla (and a later version inspired by the TV series Vikings). His original version of the song was released in 2021 I believe, and he's done a few variations of it, the most recent being a trio version (with Peyton Parrish and Eric Holloway) which went viral and inspired many performers to try their own take on it. VoicePlay's is probably the best cover I've heard, and MoS himself congratulated them on their performance. Miracle of Sound has a rather large collection of songs and covers a wide variety of styles.
If you guys have time, I'd highly recommend checking out Stray Kids! Maniac, God's Menu, Christmas EveL, Case 143 or even one of their newest songs, S-Class. I think you'd both enjoy them! 😊 They have an incredible discography, and I've merely scratched the sufface with some songs that (i think) shows their vocal abilities and m/v abilities. But you really can't go wrong with any of their m/v or songs. Thanks for the reaction! Hope you continue to have fun with them! 😊
If Voiceplay uses an instrument, you see it. Layne and J. None use violins in their cover of Warriors, and Layne in Nothing Else Matters gets to show off Violayne.
you should absolutely check out Geoff Castellucci's (the bass singer) solo youtube channel he has some insane covers on there which would blow you away 😁 i'd recommend something like 'Way Down', 'Big Bad Jphn' or 'Shenandoah' but there all excellent. also when it comes to VoicePlay you should check out there Halo theme video it's crazy good.
Loved this reaction! And so great to hear Cesar himself as well! This is the song that got me into the Voiceplay and Geoff Rabbithole. Have you seen Voiceplay's Oogie Boogie? If not, total recommendation! You will be surprised 😂
Cesar's your favorite?! 😍 Liked, subscribed and hoping for more VoicePlay reactions! Actually there wasn't that huge a team, here; looking at the credits, I think they did have more help than is typical for their videos (which makes sense being that this one was especially elaborate,) but generally speaking, they do a lot of the production work themselves.
Like many others, I recommend Geoff’s version of I See Fire to get the full effect of his range. A lot of people will recommend Oogie boogie from Nightmare before Christmas. He is channeling the original actor in that and the others are doing character voices. So it’s not the best representation of what they usually sound like, but it is amazing. That is the one where they first used in subharmonics in a video. It sounds a lot deeper than some of the ones we hear now I think because he started out so high and then dropped it down to an E1. My favorite slide is the one he does in Little Mermaid medley, a full three octave slide in one word. Cesar requested that they do I Can’t Make You Love mMe and he was featured heavily and it’s heartbreaking as he is in their version of Creep which was arranged by Eli the rock god. One of my favorites of Caesars is their cover of Bruno. You just really get to see his personality shine. Another good one was when he first joined and they did I’ve Got Friends on the Other Side from Disney’s Princess and the Frog for their spooky season release that year. It was pre-beard and he looks like such a baby. That one is interesting because there were four baritones involved in the production of it. Layne was the original baritone before he switched to beatboxer. His spot was taken over by Tony Wakim who is now Layne’s partner in PattyCake Productions where they do a lot of their videos. He was behind the scenes in I’ve Got Friends, since they filmed it at PattyCake Productions . Dr. Facilier is played by J, who replaced Tony and was returning to the fold in Valhalla Calling on his first leave from joining the Navy. And the prince is played by Cesar rounding out the baritone quartet. Subscribing in anticipation of more reactions to my favorite group and my favorite soloist. And you’re buds with Cesar so that’s an automatic sub!
I agree, I love Cesar’s voice!! They all are amazing and each one brings something special to the group. Cesar was a perfect addition after J None left. I don’t think he gets recognized as much as the other three for his talent. I hope he (and the other 3) stay together for a long time.
Pulling out the phone and casually calling cesear was kinda cool in the first reaction of yours i listened to (I may enjoy hearing people get baffled by Geoffrey/other bass singers) Geoff Castellucci has a fair few awesome solo stuff, I would recomend his hobbit pairing (misty mountains and i see fire) he films multiple copies of himself and his clones play the same characters in both videos) If you fancy checking out a slightly smaller group with insane bass check out the bass gang (4 bass singers, often featuring a guest in the song) They have tons of epic songs, if you fancy halloween content you can check out hide and seek (voiceplay also did that song) They did hooked on a feeling earlier this year with Tim Foust which was incredibly fun. I think the bassiest song is still mad world where they had Elliott Robinson with them. Each of the singers in the Bass gang also do their own solo work too, if you are the hunt for new people to listen to :)
Geoff is like two notes from falling off the bottom of the piano. 😊 You really should check out some of his solo work - he sings backup for himself because he has enough range to do four and five parts on his own. Folsom Prison Blues is the most recent release, but I love his takes on Sound of Silence and House of The Rising Sun. His solo stuff is no a capella. The song was inspired by the video game Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla Calling, but not used in the game. For some tracks that feature Cesar better, check out their covers of Aerosmith’s Dream On Radiohead’s Creep White Stripes’ Seven Nation Army traditional: Drunken Sailor Layne is usually the one to credit for any percussion or odd noises - he did the creaking door in this vid - but Geoff steps in on occasion. And glad y’all noticed Eli: many reactors new to VoicePlay get so mind-blown by Geoff they can’t hear anyone else. Eli is just a powerhouse of a belter; I love hearing him cut loose.
I have decided that Geoff and Eli have a non-public rivalry to see who can deviate farthest from middle C...Geoff on the low end and Eli on the high...
If you think that’s low, you need to react to them singing the Oogie Boogie Song. Geoff hits a super high note and then hits an unreal low note that doesn’t even sound like a human voice.
I love Cesar one how he starts Creep by Radiohead also Geoff has own RUclips tooo with songs like Till Then, Blackbird, Sound Of Silence, Big Bad John, Sixteen Tons just to name a few. The one for it before this one was My Mother Told Me.
Please consider checking out Geoff Castelluci's solo MVs. For low notes, I'd recommend "Sixteen Tons". For overall amazing vocals, his cover of "Blackbird" by The Beatles. Geoff records himself on four or five tracks so he can harmonize with himself. So cool.
Geoff Castellucci has his own channel singing with himself if ya really want to see his ranges listen to any of those songs like misty mountains cold or blackbird or even 16tons they are all amazing songs
This gave me like Hamilton vibes when he broke out the rap! We need a whole musical with this story line! This was fun and Johnny’s low voice was … ya good try! Lol 💜
If you’re impressed by Layne’s percussion acrobatics, you should absolutely do a reaction video to Home Free’s sea shanty medley. Geoff on his own? Man of Constant Sorrow is a good showcase of just how flexible he really is.
Whats funny to me is that is isnt even his lowest, nor his best range, but even so, so many people have to take multiple listens to accept its a human voice
This is great - check out their other Viking one "My Mother Told Me" - you'll get more of the deep bass vibes - more awesome costuming -- Also -has anyone mentioned the other awesome accapela group Home Free ? - also a fabulous beatboxer , a super low bass & great harmonies - - - lots for you to discover yet - Cheers from Canada
If you want a good example of Geoff Castellucci's range, take a look at "Oogie Boogie's Song" by Voiceplay, in which Geoff sings the lead. It's amazing how he goes high and very low in the same song. As usual, it's also a very amusing video.
I don't think any real drums were harmed in the making of this video - I believe that's all Laine's own voice doing beatboxing. Hah! I love that you guys just casually call Cesar to find out for sure - sounds like you woke him up!
Voice synthesizers/mixers are most likely what Lane uses in production to modulate his beat-boxing skills. Nonetheless, he is a master of his craft...as well as Geoff!

*Blackbird is an earlier video, so he's not going quite as hard there, but considering he was shooting it in his home during the pandemic, with his wife as his crew (not too unusual; Kathy is his and VoicePlay's production manager, and she does a little of everything), so in that light it's still fairly impressive.
Thank you@@CynicalTesuji !!
Will do!
Also, check out their version of 'I Can't Make You Love Me' to see more of Cesar being a highlighted vocalist.
Both Creep & I can’t make you love me are both gorgeous Cesar really shines in both.
@@throgathat's awesome, my vote is for Voice Plays cover of " Creep " as well. Cesar really shines in this one.
Eeeeeee!!! What a treat to hear from Cesar.
Yes! My face broke out in a great big grin when I heard his voice. There’s just something about him that is so endearing
@@janetdw I know right? I fell in love with him the second he flicked that fan in "We're Good," his first video as a guest with Voiceplay.
If I recall correctly didn't Geoff say he did that for almost 5 hours? My voice gets hoarse with a slightly less range by the end of the first hour 😂.
A0 growl, B0 subharmonic, F1 full chest, Bb5 is new in the mini Peaches." My 72 y/o brain is more along the lines of "I like a full chest on a man and love peaches, especially peach cobbler!"
Comments like yours give me ideas to look up and continue educating myself.
Hope you do more VoicePlay. They are unmatched in their creativity and vocal arrangements, and are always very entertaining, as well.
Thanks for the background info! I’m always pointing people to VP, and thought I knew a lot about them, but i learned something new!😊
Loved that you got to speak directly to Cesar to ask him those questions!
Cesar is just the most precious human bean ever 😂😊💜💜
bean 🤣
He's the best :)
Cesar was so cute in their version of Butter I almost couldn’t stand it. But I toughed it out 😂
@@thisismetoday7423 He is such a personality! I really enjoy watching the shorts as they’re not as disciplined and he really gets to sneak in his little version of sass!
@@janetdw I’ve noticed that, too. He always gives the most in the shorts, I love it!
Great reaction
Please react to voiceplay hoist the colours
Personnally Eli (the bald guy, and his name prononce Ellie) is my favorite i love his rock tenor voice
Eli's range is incredible! thank you for the suggestion :)
@@throga Yes, Hoist the Colours is fantastic and Cesar is in that one!
This is a follow up (sequel) to My Mother Told Me, which is also absolutely amazing and totally epic.
They used the same costumes here as they did there.
Geoff can also go up and nail like an F5 in the same phrase.hes insane
Layne is the beatbox. He does roughly 50% of the arrangements, and Geoff, the bass does the other 50%. Once in a while Eli (tenor) or someone "outside" will do one, but most are either Layne or Geoff.
Excellent reaction, I really enjoyed that. There are plenty of other A Cappella groups who are really talented, but VoicePlay is on a whole other level. The cream of the crop! If I see you’re going to do more VoicePlay reactions I’ll be happy to drop you a sub!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@throga I definitely subbed, love to see new folks discover VoicePlay for the first time (or Geoff Castellucci, the bass singer, who has his own personal youtube that inevitably leads the viewer to find the other) He does a bunch of solo covers, and his videos are just as good as VP's) If I may be so bold as to suggest a list of songs to react to:
VoicePlay -
Oogie Boogie Song
I Can't Make You Love Me (Cesar is focused a lot in this one, bring some kleenex)
Creep
Seven Nation Army
Little Mermaid Medley
Halo Theme (Geoff hits some B0s in this one, be sure to watch the video to the end where Scott is speaking)
Nothing Else Matters
The Dragonborn Comes
In the Hall of the Mountain King (would be great to react to for Halloween, their Halloween game is on point!)
If I Were A Rich Man/Girl (Geoff goes from the basement all the way up into the clouds in a single breath, then immediately plunges down to the center of the earth lol)
Geoff Castellucci -
Ain't No Sunshine
Misty Mountain (from the Hobbit)
I See Fire (continuation with the same Geoff dwarves from Misty Mountain)
Shenandoah
Sixteen Tons
House of the Rising Sun
There are SOOOO many amazing songs between VoicePlay and Geoff, but I don't want to overwhelm you more than I already have with the above mentioned songs :) I look forward to seeing more reactions to these guys in the future!
You've been introduced to Pentatonix and now VoicePlay. After a few more VoicePlay songs, I recommend adding the 3rd member of the Golden Acapella Trifecta, Home Free.
PTX are the popular kids
VoicePlay are the theater kids
Home Free are the country boys
Now that you've done Pentatonix and Voiceplay you have to hit the 3rd big group HomeFree as well.
Check out Voice Plays “Hoist the Colors!” It’s AMAZING!
Cesar is fantastic (actually all of them are) and you will get Jeff’s sub harmonics and J.None’s smooth tenor/baritone and Eli’s rock god voice and finally Layne - beatboxer extrodinaire, tenor singer (very brief) he plays violin too.🥰
Really hoping we get more Voiceplay or Geoff reactions soon!
This song was originally written for the game Assassin's Creed: Vahalla
They are great. Cesar would be the newest full-time member. Eli, Laine and Frost Giant, I meant Geoff have been together since the beginning. You have to watch Bruno. Cesar holding an umbrella and Geoff wearing.... I won't spoil it. Love the reaction. Very cool you guys know Cesar.
Hope you’ll do more Voice Play, and if you’ve done VP and Pentatonix, you kind of have to do Home Free as well. Most vocal reactors start with “Man of Constant Sorrow”. More Voice Play, please!
Just joined the channel. Loved the reaction. Need more VoicePlay !!
Miracle of Sound said it was the most creative cover ever and gave it 10 out of 10 raised alehorns.
Love that you know Cesar, and talked to him during this!
I can’t figure out how Layne made the creaking door sound. That did not sound like a human voice. But apparently it was.
It's worth listening to Geoff's own arrangements, simply incredible 4x Geoff !!!!
Voiceplay are amazing🫶🫶🫶🫶👍👍👍👍👍
This song is from Assasins Creed: Valhalla, a video game :)
Geoff's sustained B0 is such a huge flex.
I love Cesar's voice best, too! Thanks for the reaction :)
We have all loved Cesar from day one when he became a member. It is just VoicePlay they do it all themselves.
Or even before he was an official member; he did 2 or 3 videos with them.
Just check their Oogie Boogie Man for Jeff going through all registers :D
What's really impressive about Geoff is his range.
And I highly recommend those total gems.
Great video, great song, thanks
Cesar is my favorite as well. He has a beautiful voice.
you should absolutely check out Geoff Castellucci's (the bass singer) solo youtube channel he has some insane covers on there which would blow you away 😁 i'd recommend something like 'Way Down', 'Big Bad Jphn' or 'Shenandoah' but there all excellent.
also when it comes to VoicePlay you should check out there Halo theme video it's crazy good.
Loved this reaction! And so great to hear Cesar himself as well! This is the song that got me into the Voiceplay and Geoff Rabbithole. Have you seen Voiceplay's Oogie Boogie? If not, total recommendation! You will be surprised 😂
Another song that goes right along with this is My Mother Told Me. These two are my favorites of their's.
Awesome thank you!
Good reaction 👍🏻
Thanks
Amazing video and amazing music
Pulling out the phone and casually calling cesear was kinda cool in the first reaction of yours i listened to (I may enjoy hearing people get baffled by Geoffrey/other bass singers)
Geoff Castellucci has a fair few awesome solo stuff, I would recomend his hobbit pairing (misty mountains and i see fire) he films multiple copies of himself and his clones play the same characters in both videos)
If you fancy checking out a slightly smaller group with insane bass check out the bass gang (4 bass singers, often featuring a guest in the song) They have tons of epic songs, if you fancy halloween content you can check out hide and seek (voiceplay also did that song) They did hooked on a feeling earlier this year with Tim Foust which was incredibly fun. I think the bassiest song is still mad world where they had Elliott Robinson with them. Each of the singers in the Bass gang also do their own solo work too, if you are the hunt for new people to listen to :)
Miracle of Sound wrote Valhalla Calling for the Video Game Assassins Creed Valhalla. Nice Reaction Guys
❤❤ yesss his low voice is magic 😁
Geoff is like two notes from falling off the bottom of the piano. 😊 You really should check out some of his solo work - he sings backup for himself because he has enough range to do four and five parts on his own. Folsom Prison Blues is the most recent release, but I love his takes on Sound of Silence and House of The Rising Sun. His solo stuff is no a capella.
The song was inspired by the video game Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla Calling, but not used in the game.
For some tracks that feature Cesar better, check out their covers of
Aerosmith’s Dream On
Radiohead’s Creep
White Stripes’ Seven Nation Army
traditional: Drunken Sailor
Layne is usually the one to credit for any percussion or odd noises - he did the creaking door in this vid - but Geoff steps in on occasion.
And glad y’all noticed Eli: many reactors new to VoicePlay get so mind-blown by Geoff they can’t hear anyone else. Eli is just a powerhouse of a belter; I love hearing him cut loose.
Ooooo, gotta check out The HU, a Mongolian heavy metal band complete with throat singing! Loved them in concert too!
Hi guys...Have you heard his other songs? Oogie boogie man, sixteen tons, misty mountain ...it's low bass singer...crazy! 👏👏👏
Sixteen Tons, awesome. ❤
Geoff’s sustained sun is a B0. He also hits an F#1 in chest.
I have decided that Geoff and Eli have a non-public rivalry to see who can deviate farthest from middle C...Geoff on the low end and Eli on the high...
They do minimal production. They can perform live anything that they produce.
If you think that’s low, you need to react to them singing the Oogie Boogie Song. Geoff hits a super high note and then hits an unreal low note that doesn’t even sound like a human voice.
I am surprised that you haven't reacted to VoicePlay's Hellfire video. It mostly features Geoff Castelluci.
So cool.
Honestly it you want Geoff's full range, you should check out his solo cover of Misty Mountain, but welcome to the Voice Play vibe
Geoff Castellucci has his own channel singing with himself if ya really want to see his ranges listen to any of those songs like misty mountains cold or blackbird or even 16tons they are all amazing songs
I thought I would let you know that when you said, “Subharmonics,” Geoff went down, and he does it at the part where J. None started rapping.
Now you need to try the Home Free rabbit hole.........
Geoffs B0-F#1-B0-?-F#1 at the start is crazyyyyyy
Geoff has his own channel and does amazing solo covers there too. His true range can be seen in his "I see fire" cover of Ed Sheran from the Hobbit.
This gave me like Hamilton vibes when he broke out the rap! We need a whole musical with this story line! This was fun and Johnny’s low voice was … ya good try! Lol 💜
The did perform My Shot from Hamilton
Haha maybe next time I'll get it lol
*Geoff
If you’re impressed by Layne’s percussion acrobatics, you should absolutely do a reaction video to Home Free’s sea shanty medley. Geoff on his own? Man of Constant Sorrow is a good showcase of just how flexible he really is.
Whats funny to me is that is isnt even his lowest, nor his best range, but even so, so many people have to take multiple listens to accept its a human voice
Woah, cool!
GO BILLS!!
Check out more from them. Dream on is awesome but pretty much everything with them is
I don't think any real drums were harmed in the making of this video - I believe that's all Laine's own voice doing beatboxing.
Hah! I love that you guys just casually call Cesar to find out for sure - sounds like you woke him up!
Geoff's opening low note is a B-0 he is always astounding.
Miracle of Sound does a lot of trubute songs to video games. This one in particular is inspired by Assassins Creed: Valhalla.
Geoffs total vocal range (updated) is (C#0) A0-Bb5 but lowest note in this is B0 as said before
Great reaction, if you really want to see Geoff, I'd recommend Oogie Boogie Song from Nightmare before christmas.
Voice synthesizers/mixers are most likely what Lane uses in production to modulate his beat-boxing skills. Nonetheless, he is a master of his craft...as well as Geoff!
Miracle of Sound is a maker of Computer Game music. I think this was based on Assassin's Creed: Valhalla - a large online genre.
