Don't stop now! Geoff has his own channel and often sings with himself. (Apparently he is ahead of medical science and has learned to clone himself effortlessly.) You get a better sense of his range. Loved the reaction - and although you said you've heard his low notes, I think his last sub-harmonic still took you by surprise. Geoff has a clip explaining how to do the sub-harmonic, centre-of-the-earth rumbles - might be fun for you to check out!
This is my absolute favorite song of theirs!! Santa wasn't part of the group, he's actually Geoff's real life neighbor, Geoff asked him if he would play the part because his voice was perfect for it. After finding some of their older videos I just figured it was easier to tell who was there as opposed to who wasn't. And to answer your question about Layne,, he basically makes whatever sounds he needs to and layers himself using computer programs. Jennifer, loved your reaction!! Voiceplay lost 2 members in the last year or so, one left for personal reasons (the bearded tenor) and one to join the Navy and sing with them (the baritone). Hoist the Colours is phenomenal, you will absolutely love it. Geoff Castelluci, the bass, did Monster Mash just a day or so ago; it is brilliant and hilarious. Enjoy and welcome to our world!
One thing I love about Voiceplay is the fact that it’s obvious how much fun they have with their videos and costumes, but their arrangements are superb! The queen medley is fantastic
Geoff's final note changed my understanding of physics when I first heard it. What a great ensemble! Thanks for the reaction, Jennifer! I'll put in another plug for Angelina Jordan's studio rehearsal of I'm A Fool To Want You. It seems made for some good vocal pedagogy.
I jumped on this as soon as I saw the thumbnail because I knew you would attempt the low notes and that always makes me smile! I think one of Jeff's best is his version of. " The Headless Horseman". The 3 heads on the table are all Jeff singing different harmonies. You blessed my day so I pray you have a blessed day too!
I haven't seen anyone put in a plug for Voiceplay's version of "If I Were A Rich Man". It's a fantastic update of a classic of musical theater and another measure of their versatility (not to mention another measure of Geoff's vocal range)
This Is their best work for me. Sometimes Geoff go so low, he reaches Hell's basement. The devil is afraid to look down there in the dark... GEOFF HAMMERHAND, the Horn of Helm's Deep!
Frankly vocal coaches should constantly react to Voiceplay performances, between the members of the group and their guests singers, there is always something great and varied to react to.
Older song by them with this same group. Can't help falling in love. No beatboxing. Just five voices. Go the distance from Disney's Hercules. The tenor Earl (guy with the beard) had left the group and they now have different people coming in to complete the group. If I were a rich man from fiddler on the roof. The best one they have done is a newer release hoist the colors from Pirates of the Caribbean. The arrangements and harmonies are amazing. Hope you enjoy them if you react to them.
First timer on your channel, nice to hear a fellow Brit for a change on youtube, Surrey or Hampshire accent if I'm not mistaken, to posh to be one of us "oiks" in Kent. Nice reaction, most reactors, have a jaw drop at the end when Geoff hits that e1, (shame you were warned). I love acapella and voiceplay don't just sing, they put on a full show every time, make-up, costume, set and even character voices. The singers also seem to get into character as if it's a clip from a musical. Laynes beatboxing is epic as well. In Hoist the Colours, you hear him make some unsual sounds, not the sort of sounds you expect from a beatboxer, but adds to the immersion. Eli (pronounced Ellie, the bald guy here) can really belt it out too and it appears so effortless for him.
Voiceplay's most popular videos are full-on productions, and they are all super-fun. Hoist the Colors is the current fantastic song, but also don't miss their contemporary songs like "We're Good", "Bang", and "Man in the Middle." Like Voctave, they have performed at Disney World and Disney events, but also on live tours across the US. Layne Stein (the beatboxer) also runs Pattycake Studios where they shoot most of their videos, and Layne and Geoff are the primary arrangers for the group. Love your reviews and covers Jennifer, keep up the great work!
YES! FINALLY! Voiceplay is HERE! Thank ye ma'am fer jumpin in and I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction to this nugget of vocal gold. He just came out with a brand new cover of the classic Halloween song, Monster Mash which you should definitely feature this month. Hope you and yorn have a goodun and set em up again!✝️🤠
You need to go see Geoff the Bass cover of The Monster Mash for Halloween. For Halloween VoicePlay did a cover of Hoist the Colours from Pirates of the Caribbean.
Geoff is like Avi Kaplan in just so much talent/range is not fair for us mere mortals. Geoff has said he isn't a "True" Bass... he can have a higher rock singer type range, which is amazing and you hear more in his solo projects.
I love that you discovered Voice Play! Some of my favorites at the moment are Daddy Sang Bass, My Mother Told Me, and Hoist The Colors. Daddy Sang Bass has great play between tenor and bass. My Mother Told Me is a Geoff Castellucci eargasm. Hoist the Colors is just beautifully done, also with great bass notes and also fabulous tenor notes too.
For not really commenting on subharmonics, you really did a good job of visualizing it and kind of explaining the process of how subharmonics happen :))
If you want to see more Voiceplay, as well as a video that really shows off the talents of all of the acts, I'd recommend checking out their "Queen in 5 Minutes" medley.
You are in for a HUGE treat as you explore this rabbit hole of videos and performances. I have been a Voice Play fan for over 10 years and had the great pleasure of hearing them live at a Christmas Party event in the Magic Kingdom of WDW (pre Covid of course) and I wanted to let you know (as a 'new' reactor to their videos) that they are JUST as talented in person as they are on video. there IS of course some post production and other tweaking involved in the videos BUT....The low notes, high notes, harmonies and performances of ALL the members of Voice Play are excellent live. Also I highly recommend listening to some of their older videos and then going to some of the 2018-2021 performances so you can enjoy how much they have improved their video performances and production. One of my all time favorites is Geoff's Mele Kelikimaka featuring the American Sirens (you defiantly should hear some of their stuff too)
Voiceplay is an excellent group. This song is really fun but there are OH!! moments throughout, which is awesome. I enjoyed your reaction, you obviously liked it. Geoff is a real talent. His covers of "blackbird" and "Sixteen Tons" are really good and you might want to check them out sometime. Have a great day/night.
You're going to fall down the wonderful rabbit hole that is VoicePlay and Geoff Castellucci. Geoff has his own channel that he does amazing covers. He just dropped The Monster Mash for Halloween. The lowest Geoff has gone was in their new one HALO, the theme from the game. He made it down to B0. VoicePlay #TheatreKidsOfACappella.
I'm currently watching first time reactions to VoicePlay, and I'm soooooo glad that the first introductions has mostly been to the Oogie Boogie song! It's the perfect vehicle to show off the group's charm. And I'm enjoying watching reactors struck dumb by what they just saw! 😂
I’ve lost count on which stop this is on my “watching vocal coaches react to voiceplay/Geoff Castelucci” fixation, but I’m fairly certain this is my life now
Hi there Jen, This video is great, so special. They are all good, but the bassist is the BEST I have heard in decades.... The man's range is off of the charts. It is so cute when you try to sing the LOW notes......
Haha, I love watching people react to VoicePlay and especially to Geoffs incredible deep voice. I never noticed the 'ha' 'ha' matching the 'you're joking' before, so happy you mentioned it. Now I'll pay even more detail to such details :) You should check out 'Hoist The Colours' with them, it is beyond amazing too
Hey Jen, In your reply to me a few weeks ago you did say you were getting to them and here you are. Glad to see your on the Voicetrain ... great review. Next, Little Mermaid, Boy Bands in 5 Min, Queen in 5 min and Phantom. Then the new stuff, My Mother told me, If i was a Rich Girl, Hoist the colors and Halo. AARRRGGH we so much time and so little to do .. strike that, reverse it.
Now that you've gotten to Voice Play, you should react to their two most recent videos--"Hoist the Colors" and "Halo". Both are just unbelievable and blow people out of hte water. They'll knocks your socks off. And Geoff just did a cover of "Monster Mash" that is lots of fun.
A voice teacher? I bet you would love to have a classroom of voices like this. These guys are super good. Geoff is no doubt the best bass I have heard in decades. And he has a wonderful range. He can sing the high parts (different colors). You are going to get off on their harmonies. Great video too.
Loved your reaction Jennifer! Love it when you try and hit the low notes (you're not the only reactor/vocal coach that does that). Recommendation: have a piano app on your phone or tablet, or a keyboard so you can reference low notes that are being sung. Makes the reaction more fun, especially for the reactor!
You should do my mother told me. A Viking hymn and voice play also has a new one hoist the colors. From the pirates of carabian movie and Geoff has a new solo monster mash and don't forget headless horseman both awsome
Geoff is so amazing, that I find no words to describe him! 🙏🔥🤯 It's Halloween month, so you really have to watch Geoff's latest vid, The Monster Mash, (awesomeness personified), as well as the Headless Horseman 💖. Also the rest of Nightmare Before Christmas (Kidnap the Sandy Claws, This is Halloween and What's This) from VoicePlay, and also their Hoist the Colours. All in the spirit of Halloween 👻. Then, welcome to the Geoff / VoicePlay awesome rabbit hole! 🙏'💖💖💖
Voiceplay have just dropped a new one for this year, (Friends on the Other Side) only seen by patrons so far, and Geoff, the soloist here, has made a hoot of a video of Monster Mash. It's brilliant. He's a brilliant arranger.
You have to follow up with "This Is Halloween" by Voice Play from the same movie. You won't be disappointed. Your review/reaction to Oogie Boogie was spot-on. Thanks for the great video.
Since I haven't seen anyone answer it, the things in their mouths are strobe flashing led teeth, you can buy them cheap on Amazon and you just wear them over your teeth like a mouth guard and they just flash colors as long as the battery last. It makes for a neat effect when you consider a lot of Oogie Boogie's stuff in the original was based around black light glowing objects.
I'll give you some recommendations for Halloween from them, check out Hoist the Colours, This is Halloween, Kidnap the Sandy Claws, Superstition and Grim Grinning Ghosts, and from Geoff solo, the Headless Horsemen and his newest relear Monster Mash.
The vocal fry on the lowest note is him using the subharmonic register. You should watch his video on it if you don’t know what it is. It’s very interesting but it’s also very hard to do. I’ve been trying and still can’t get it consistent. Love the content. Bye ✌️
I really loved your analysis and pointing out some of the little things that were going on, like the cry into the higher note. Voiceplay is spectacular! In the spirit of more Halloween, can I suggest Geoff Castelluci's cover of Monster Mash? It's super catchy and I think you'll love it.
Welcome to Voiceplay and the 5 Octaves of Geoff Castellucci! He has an insane range...some of his solo stuff really showcases it. Blackbird and High and Dry give you a good idea of his full range. This video was my introduction to Voiceplay and Geoff Castellucci as well...and i'm well and truly down that rabbit hole now.
VoicePlay has some amazing songs out there. In the Halo theme Goeff hits a record low note of B0. For choral work I'd recommend Hoist the Colours, True Colors and I Can Go the Distance.
We have you now... welcome to and enjoy your trip down the rabbit hole.. ;P The Really high voice ("You haven't got a prayer.") belongs to Earl, one of the three founders of the group, If you'd like to hear just how high he can go, check out another of the VP's Nightmare Before Christmas covers; "What's This?". I have no clue what note it is but he HITS it right in the opening bars of the song. Have fun.
Wonderful reaction, as usual. Voiceplay has a lot of great covers for you to cover (ehem, no pun intended). There latest is their cover of the Halo theme (from the game Halo) which is amazing and a real departure from what they typically do. If I Were a Rich Man/Girl ft. Ashley Diane would be fun, as would their cover of We're Good ft. Adriana Arellano. If you're a Disney fan they've done a Little Mermaid Medley. For more of a Christmas theme you could react to there cover of "You're a Mean One Mr Grinch." They have a huge catalog of great covers for you to explore.
Hello! I suggest reacting to Geoff's new song, Monster Mash; and one of my personal favorites, House of the Rising Son 😊 ALSO I almost forgot, You're a Mean one Mr. Grinch is amazing!!!
Hiya there! First time on your channel, subscribing for sure. 🌹 I did a quick scan in the comments and I wanted to point out a couple things I didn't see at first glance. first, at about 5:23 (in your video) listen for Geoff's vocal run in the background right after Layne says "to add a little spice". It always wows me! Also, the bit that you mentioned on Geoff's voice maybe having a vocal effect ( 6:19, your video), that's a glitch in that version... it's not in the original video, I've listened to it a million times and never heard that glitchy sound before. That should be a solid tone with no stops. Odd! Well anyway, it's nice to virtual-meet you, and I'll just go ahead and agree with everyone else's suggestions in the comments. Hoist the Colors is all the rage right now, for sure. And Geoff has been churning them out on his own too, with 16 Tons, Misty Mountains, House of the Rising Sun, and Monster Mash all fairly recently! Ok I'll stop... enjoy the rabbit hole! 💖🥰😎
An E1 from Geoff at the end there. I can barely get that low on my synthesizer. Or maybe it's my amp that's having trouble with it. Probably need that giant speaker from Back to the Future to give that note its due.

Thank you!! I will for sure!
Ooh yes, I did see 😊 and wow!!! This I’ve got to hear!
Geoff "the villain" blasted an astouding subharmonic E1 at the end . 8.32 "glottal jump" , jodel . Brava !
We call ourselves VoicePlayers, and we welcome you with open, playful hearts!
Geoff's laugh at the end is literally like some monster from video games. Awesome reaction, btw.
I'm currently watching first time reactions to VoicePlay, and I'm soooooo glad that the first introductions has mostly been to the Oogie Boogie song! It's the perfect vehicle to show off the group's charm. And I'm enjoying watching reactors struck dumb by what they just saw! 😂
I’ve lost count on which stop this is on my “watching vocal coaches react to voiceplay/Geoff Castelucci” fixation, but I’m fairly certain this is my life now
Geoff now has a solo cover of The Monster Mash. Its a definite must see.
Hi there Jen,
This video is great, so special.
Now I'll pay even more detail to such details :)
You should check out 'Hoist The Colours' with them, it is beyond amazing too
Hey Jen, In your reply to me a few weeks ago you did say you were getting to them and here you are.
You should definitely check out Geoff's cover of "16 tons". You'll love his vocal work in that video 🤘. And his "country roads" cover.
"Whoa...eHhh"...nice react :P
Loved your reaction Jennifer! Love it when you try and hit the low notes (you're not the only reactor/vocal coach that does that). Recommendation: have a piano app on your phone or tablet, or a keyboard so you can reference low notes that are being sung. Makes the reaction more fun, especially for the reactor!
If you look up the word bass - Geoff picture would be there...A great range and tone... Talent deluxe.... Just unreal! Great job!!!
LOVE Voice Play, hope to see more!
Welcome to the rabbit hole! It's lovely down here!
Lovely reaction and analysis. So much to hear the first time thru. Most people miss alot of the background stuff that adds so much. Well done.
Never noticed his little cry. Subscribed.
Ah thanks!
You should do my mother told me. A Viking hymn and voice play also has a new one hoist the colors. From the pirates of carabian movie and Geoff has a new solo monster mash and don't forget headless horseman both awsome
VoicePlay’s new Halloween video, Friends on the Other Side will be out soon. Don’t miss it!
I can't wait for that, and to hear j none back with the rest of the guys! I've really missed his voice and I think he'll be the perfect Dr facilier.
I watch these reactions for that 'shocked pikachu' expression they always have at that last low note. Never fails. XD
Great one to start with.
Welcome to the VP world! Please do react to Geoff's solo songs, they're mind-blowing!
I love how you popped back a bit at the ending "BOO!" too :D
Welcome to planet Voiceplay, great analysis. You should look into Geoff's Monstermash and Voiceplay's Halo game theme
Geoff is so amazing, that I find no words to describe him! 🙏🔥🤯
It's Halloween month, so you really have to watch Geoff's latest vid, The Monster Mash, (awesomeness personified), as well as the Headless Horseman 💖.
just me again love... and still a splendid job love ^_^ ♥
Voiceplay have just dropped a new one for this year, (Friends on the Other Side) only seen by patrons so far, and Geoff, the soloist here, has made a hoot of a video of Monster Mash. It's brilliant. He's a brilliant arranger.
Can’t wait!! Monster Mash reaction is up on my channel 😊
I love your patrons choices..God Bless..Love Chris
You have to follow up with "This Is Halloween" by Voice Play from the same movie. You won't be disappointed. Your review/reaction to Oogie Boogie was spot-on. Thanks for the great video.
Amazing, thank you!
That was cool, nice reaction Jennifer...👍👌🌝
Thank you! 😁
great reaction!! you should do his cover of the headless horseman next!!!
I have watched many of ur reactions and I just love ❤️ ur side comments…… and ur accent lol I’m a Texas man 👨
Hello Jen,have just heard your comments on Geoff’s Castellucci’s Ooigie Boogie Man From The Night Before Christmas, and I loved it.
You are so fun to watch reacting! Thank you.
Ah thanks!
So cool!
Do Geoff a headless horseman you will. Bass melt I look to enjoy your reaction on this one lol
Welcome to the ride...Voiceplay will treat you to sensory overload! You should hear Hoist the Colours!
Love the tone of you English voice. Smooth and Classic. ⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘
I'll give you some recommendations for Halloween from them, check out Hoist the Colours, This is Halloween, Kidnap the Sandy Claws, Superstition and Grim Grinning Ghosts, and from Geoff solo, the Headless Horsemen and his newest relear Monster Mash.
Amazing! Thank you!!!
Thank you!!! 😊
You should react to Voiceplay’s My Mother Told Me and Boy Band in 5 minutes, these are my favourite that you haven’t reacted to.
When I first heard Geoff hit that subharmonic E1, I lost it haha and to think he can go even lower now.
You have to check out their version of Hoist the Colours
Got a new reactor to watch, was good to see this break down
Thank you!
Have fun.
Oooh exciting! Thank you😊
Her face when he went MAAAAN. 😂 Reaction videa are allways funny at this. :D
For October's Halloween season, react to Geoff's solo of "The Headless Horseman".
Ah lovely, thank you!! 😊
Hello! I suggest reacting to Geoff's new song, Monster Mash; and one of my personal favorites, House of the Rising Son 😊 ALSO I almost forgot, You're a Mean one Mr. Grinch is amazing!!!
In the spirit of Halloween you should check out Geoff in the Headless Horseman.
Loved this can’t wait to see more.
There will definitely be more!
Loved the reaction! Geoff just released a cover of Monster Mash yesterday.
Yeees!!😊
Thank you for this!! I shall go back and look for these, and how odd about that glitch ahah! Thanks😊
An E1 from Geoff at the end there. I can barely get that low on my synthesizer. Or maybe it's my amp that's having trouble with it. Probably need that giant speaker from Back to the Future to give that note its due.
Ah love that film!!
B4-E1 absolutely insane 🤯
