    Hi. Just replaced the belt on my 2013 sr 50 piaggio engine. Noticed a significant decrease of top speed. Downhill it used to manage like 80 km/t, now it only does 65-70 km/t. Max rpm kicks in at lower speed. Does the belt need to "wear in" for some time, for then to reach the "old" top speed again? It also hesitates noticeable when taking of from standstill after belt change.

    • @scooterstreetau

    • @scooterstreetau
      @scooterstreetau  3 года назад

      The belt is usually checked every 3000kms and replaced at 9 or 12k. If in doubt do the change. Also check the valleys between the belt teeth and look for small cracks which indicate age. The Multivar is a good option if the current Var is worn, you will notice a smooth gear change and mildly quicker acceleration when rollers are at optimal.

      It depends on the scooter, on the Piaggio Hiper2 engine the variator really just smooths out the accelleration. It doesnt make a big difference to the top speed or accelleration as such. I would estimate no more than a 5% difference.

    • @scooterstreetau
      @scooterstreetau  Год назад +1

      Hi Callum, I guess your talking about the metal washer discussed @ 4:44. Ok so if you think about putting all the part together on the crankshaft the last part will cover the spline on the crankshaft and then you are left with the thread for the final fixing nut to go on and hold all the parts in place, you see this @ 8:50. The Malossi kit is the same and fitting all the parts will bring the fixing nut again to the same position. If you don't put the washer the total spacing will change and the fixing nut will catch the spline and not tighten properly. This will causing unfastened parts in the variator assembly and it will not end well. If the nut is tightened onto the spline it will spread and damage the spline and it will be very difficult to remove the ramp plate..
