  • Step by step how-to guide on changing / installing performance clutch springs on an Aprilia SR50R.
    The SR50R as most Aprilia 50cc scooters uses the Piaggio Hiper2 motor. All Piaggio/Vespa 50cc 2T scooters are exactly the same for installation.
    This guide can be used for most scooters, as almost every make of scooter used the same type of clutch design. Please ensure you install the correct springs according to the make and model of your scooter.

    Hello, I have Aprilia SR with minarelli horizontal engine, it struggles to move from a stop and wont increase rpm until about 20 km/h. What do I need to change?

    • @scooterstreetau
      @scooterstreetau  3 года назад +1

      To help increase the RPM, lighter rollers and tighter clutch springs. The carby must also be tuned to the optimal setting with the jetting.

    • @scooterstreetau
      @scooterstreetau  2 года назад +2

      Without knowing any details of your scooter or the set up it is almost impossible to make any suggestions. I guess you could start by checking the components in the transmission and carby/airbox and look for wear and tear. Try to lighten the rollers and up the tension of the clutch spring set.

    • @moniioitolluilmansex

      sounds like you need high rpm to start moving, try buying less weight rollers, or you can buy heavier, so you could go faster.

    • @scooterstreetau

      Place the belt into the pulley and use the leverage from pulling the belt to open the clutch. Or, you can also slide the pulley onto a stationary shaft (for example a long bolt locked in a vice) and pull the belt and finger squeeze simultaneously. Pinch the belt together to keep the tension as it it placed around the crankshaft when refitting. Wella👌

    • @scooterstreetau
      @scooterstreetau  2 года назад

      The idea of the contra spring: When you release the throttle the revs will decrease. When the revs decrease we want the transmission gearing to also decrease and continually move to low gear so when the throttle is banged on again the engine is at the lower gear to have an instant response to the throttle action. A balance between rollers and spring tension is how this is acheived. The Contra spring can also slow the accelerating progress if too highe tension, trial and testing will get you the best result.

    I’ve had my aprilia for a while I put a 70cc kit on it and a few weeks later my bike started making this grinding noise coming from the transmission and I later found out that it was because my purple malossi contra spring was hitting my malossi delta clutch, what would be the cause of this? My set up is
    Yasuni R exhaust
    Malossi multivar 2000 w/ 6.5G rollers

      Not sure that this spring would cause a grinding noise as it is not rotating..... look for something that has a rotational action that is worn in the transmission. The Shaft spacer that sits into the bearing of the clutch cover perhaps?

      A performance Variator will help achieve this, dialling in the correct roller weights, step up the clutch spring set or adjustable clutch shoe (2nd option is better). Get a very flexible belt and make sure it sits high on the rear pulley at idle and high on the front pulley and high speed.

      The clutch springs make a difference to the engagement of the clutch as the RPM builds, don't go too hard tension. The rollers will need to be adjusted to suit if you run with the Blue Torque spring. Trial and testing is the key to finding the best solution for your engine performance.

      Depends on which machine it will be fitted too. Let's say the SR50R. The Variator will be fine, they definitely have greater effect when the cc is upgraded. A lighter roller set will allow easier revs but may change gearing too slow if too light, a heavier set will change the belt position sooner. Fid the best weight to give a slower progression of the belt without over reving.

    Hey, i have a peugeot speedfight 3 50 AC. i have fitted the airsal t6 asso, tecnigas next r, 21mm dell orto carb and a metrakit powerfilter- im about to order a malossi multivar, malossi fly clutch with bell and malossi x special belt. at the moment the clutch and belt is slipping so i think i will start off by using the malossi white contra spring provided with the variator and see if i need to get the stiffer yellow one. but at best my moped is going about 83kmh and i think its using a lot of fuel, like 0,6 0,7 liters per 10 kilometers cirka. anyways would it be worth the upgrade to get a new exhaust like the yasuni R or maybe c16 or perhaps the tecnigas tripos which is a mid race pipe? im currently runnning 4.6g weights and besides a bad takeoff. if im at a stand still and give it full throttle it just slips and sudenly kick into 8k and goes really slow then 2-3 secionds later it just jumps up to 10k and gettting up to speed it is about 9.5k, im thinking to get all the new parts on and tune it from there but do you think the springs that come with the malossi fly cølutch is enough? im driving this scoot ecvery day so im going to get tired off having a very aggressive clutch engagement

    • @scooterstreetau
      @scooterstreetau  3 года назад +2

      The exhaust should be giving a good acceleration, but with that set up you should expect more top speed. Look into what you have already changed as to why the speed is moderate and the the lack of acceleration from the start. Rollers sound a fraction too light for me. The Yasuni R would make you very happy or any of the exhausts from the list you mentioned, Great idea! You will always find when you put the power filter the jet will need to be increased or tuned to suit the filter. My approach would be Setting the carby first to the air box and then fit the power filter and adjust. Many suggest to only make one change at a time and we strongly agree. Take this approach with the transmission.... try to avoid fitting all the parts in one session, like doing a puzzle in the dark... My approach would be to go back at least with the carby/power filter before adding more to the puzzle. I look forward to hearing the outcome and you will learn so much as you go, Please share✌

      Changing too many parts usually bandaids the original issue, so this is not the best way approach. Taking out 3 rollers is not ideal and the engine will not perform well.

    Hi my peugeot speedfight 3 can’t hold 9k rpm after accelerating from 0 it drops down to 7 and it rarely raises up to 8 and falls back to 7
    MY SETUP
    Qtre sport exhaust
    Polini variator
    4,5 g rollers
    17,5 carb
    As i said my acceleration is great but at 45 kmh it drops to 7k rpm and i rarely go over 65 kmh theres a sound that it wants to go faster, our suspicions are that our exhaust might have a limiter cuz a mechanic put it on and we didn’t check, CDI being restricted cause the mechanic also didn’t tell us anything and then my friend thinks its the clutch springs being too hard since they are stock

    • @scooterstreetau
      @scooterstreetau  2 года назад

      Did you jet the bike up when you installed the exhaust? Also 4.5g rollers sounds very, very light for a 50cc with a performance exhaust and variator. I would definitely recommend pen marking the variator to see that the belt is getting all the way to the outside. You may be correct to think the scooter will have restrictors. Check the exhaust, check the CDI-Rev on Main stand for a quick check and also the rollers may need to be heavier, try 6.5 gram and then trial and test.

    • @imdovis787
      @imdovis787 2 года назад

      @@scooterstreetau I tried heavier rollers it was even worse, my mechanic told me to get even lighter ones idk, and when i put my scooter on a mainstand it revs up to 11k rpm, and idk a mechanic installed my exhaust so he should of regulated the carb for it ( my mechanic also said that i need a contra spring and clutch springs, since mine is too hard, BUT our contra spring seems to press down with ease so im pretty confused)

      @@imdovis787 Ok trial slightly lighter rollers and test again. You need to firstly find out if the exhaust is restricted. When you fit the exhaust it is a must to do the Jet, Rollers and clutch spring set to allow the maximum advantage. If you don't do these things you may as well not fit the exhaust..

      @@lupurednic8624 Different performance manufacturers make differing designs but always Upgrade from the original design. The performance clutch may have a larger surface area on the contact pad giving maximum allowable grip. Some have a heavier throw out arm and adjustable weights within the arm to fine tune the contact pressure. We like the quick adjusting spring tension in the Polini clutch which saves loads of time when tuning the timing of engagement of the clutch on the Bell.
