get these numbers hi everyone this is
dr. Susan brown director of the Center
for better bones and the better bone
foundation it's my pleasure to be with
you today to have this brief chance to
talk about a topic of great importance
the alkaline diet and also to be able to
answer your questions personally at the
Center for better bones it's our mission
and it has been our mission for almost
30 years now to explore the natural
    human potential for regenerating bone
    health maintaining bone health building
bone health naturally at any stage of
life and to build overall better health
our motto is better bones better body
and that is indeed the title of the
first book that I wrote at the Center
for better bones we do many things to
help share the new research I write a
blog that goes to tens of thousands of
women and men every week you can find
nearly a thousand articles on my website
better bones calm to see what is the
latest in natural health maintenance we
also do tracks like this which are
really very informative and a lot of fun
and of course we write books into
research today we want to fulfill our
mission a little part of our mission by
explaining to you one of the very
    important components for maintaining
health which is this component of the
upland diet now as I start let me
explain that there are many diets today
    they're vegetarian diets they're vegan
    diets there's ketogenic diets there's
    paleo diets there's high-fat diets
    there's a low-fat diet and there's even
a 5 mapped diet there's all kinds of
diets that are designed to meet the
needs of different individuals and those
diets may be perfectly fine for the
person who is using them but what we
know is any of those diets and all of
those diets will maximize health only if
they can achieve what we call an
alkaline complement or I like to call
    the alkalizing
relate in other words the alkalyn diet
is really more a complementary approach
that tweaks your individual diet to put
your body chemistry your ph balance into
the state that is most optimum and that
optimum pH balance allows the cells to
function better that enzymes to function
better the tissues to be more healthy so
any diet is going to benefit from having
an alkalizing kilt and I'm going to show
you how to use the diet no matter what
diet you take to create that optimum ph
chemistry now let's just take a second
and talk about pH because probably we've
all heard of acid rain that's great but
many of us haven't thought about pH
    synthesis since earth science class
probably remember how the pH scale goes
seven is neutral from zero to seven or
zero to six twenty seven is acid and
from seven nine is alkaline so we have
    things like battery acid hydrochloric
acid that are very acid we have many
    neutral substances like pure water
should be neutral with a pH of seven and
we have alkaline substances like on the
far end like bleach and baking soda and
these kind of things it is that any
liquid has a pH and that really is a
measure of free hydrogen ions any liquid
and all the liquids in the body have a
particular pH you can measure your
saliva you can measure your blood you
can measure any liquid while we don't
have time to go completely into pH but I
have written a whole book on the topic
that would be happy to share with you
and we have a whole website on the topic
the alkaline for life website what we're
going to talk about here is the fact
that the body has a mandatory situation
where the pH has to be very specific in
order for us to survive and in fact
while through metabolism and eating foo

I am so thankful for this very clear explanation. I suffered from a very severe eating disorder for 8 years, anorexia bp subtype . Not only was my diet malnourishing but was also full of processed diet foods , diet sodas , diet pills , caffeine’s and diuretics and laxatives . Because of all that and the fact that I engaged in daily purging sometimes it would be up to hundreds of times per day because I would drink water and repeat till I felt I was empty , I had chronicle low potassium on and off for that full 8 years. Very often was I hospitalized with heart issues as well as injures to to falling or fainting and to replete my potassium levels . I had pre existing GERD that I was diagnosed with very young and think I had since birth as well as IBS-C and Gastroparesis . My whole body was highly acidic at all times . I eventually started developing kidney issues . And at one point an ulcer that turned into a bowel perforation I was hospitalized for three months for . Since that time I have recovered from my eating disorder but still counties to suffer from the damage I had done. I never followed my recommended GERD diet and continued to eat highly acidic foods and drinks and processed food as much as our current world does. But over the last two years I developed severe and chronic lower back pain. As well as muscle pain all throughout my body. Now at this point I was highly aware that osteoporosis and arthritis were very common in people who had eating disorders as severe and as lengthy as I did with the low weight I held for extended period of time. And I knew something was wrong. Especially because both illnesses run deep in my family lines. The pain got worse up until this year it reached its peak high its ever been. I was taking the maximum dose of Advil, alive or Tylenol each day and sometimes combinations of them. I was using Topical pain creams with lidocaine several times a day. Using heat packs on my lower back . Usually a special chair when I worked all day and having to consistently shift positions and crack my back and stretch. I was loosing sleep each night sometimes spending up to 5 hours before falling asleep tossing and turning and shifting just trying to get comfortable . And my ability to move and walk and be mobile lessened by the day as moving around too much would just hurt so bad I would cry and be laid up for days. During all this my heartburn and acid reflux and regurgitation was getting worse , as well as my skin , and my teeth enamel was wearing away rapidly even though I always brushed and flossed. And then 2 weeks ago I got sick with a stomach bug (getting sick is something that also happened very often) and because of the violently get ill and all of the other acidic factors suddenly one day I was unable to swallow without pain. I felt so nauseous and bloated (which was very typical for me but combined with anything I ate I felt a chocking sensation and pain and then the feeling of having a bubble not in my throat but in my esophagus I knew I had to call my doctor. Esophagitis is what they said . Due to all the moving factors of my recent eating habits and being ill and the constant pain relievers . They were clear if I did not still to a very low acid diet respecting all potential Gerd triggers as well as soft foods and only IBSC safe foods it would not heal, it would get worse and then more aggressive intervention would have to happen and something that could happen if left untreated would be developing Barretts esophagus or esophageal cancer which was more likely due to my utter mistreatment and abuse of my esophagus throughout my 8 year eating disorder and then continued after with acidic foods and beverage just no purging or restriction . Since then I can say I have struggled to cope with the new diet and the thought of many of the potential gerd triggers being a permanent one I’d have to continue to refrain from after the esophagitis. But physically my digestive system has for the first time in a long time felt relief . I did finally convince my doctor to order a bone density scan and she also ordered physical therapy with the recommendation of a added personal TENS unit to cope with the pain and refrain from using medications that would worsen the gerd . As hard as it may be to function eating this diet and mostly alkaline foods (when most everything in the grocery store has a trigger ingredient or is highly acidic and processed) and most restaurants or parties I may go to or holidays may be the same , I want to continue on it to treat my body well and for it to be truly healthy. I fought hard to recover from my eating disorder to save my life and I don’t want to shorten it or worsen my quality of life by continuing to eat a diet that is damaging it and not recognizing , respecting and accepting my digestive and esophageal illnesses and not Exacerbating them. Through researching more about alkaline foods I stumbled across this video. I am very glad I did as it helped me to learn even more and I cannot wait to take a look at your website and view more of your videos to properly educate and Inform myself in my heath and how to protect myself from the acid that has wreaked havoc my entire life. Again thank you so much.

Very helpful presentation! Thank you for all your work on this subject. Also, I would say that the level of minerals in water (as you mentioned in this talk, with regard to the various levels they rate in Europe) is mineralized by the rock/sediment which it runs over, thru, around on its way to the ocean (or lake, natural reservoir). We have springs, and even "hot springs" all over the world which show us this. Of course, we know that most towns and cities have severely-treated water that probably offer us unheathfulness. I believe we do have many places in US which have good mineral content, for drinking, if they are analyzed for unheathful elements and filtered; the minerals are left intact. I happen to be a recipient of such water, from a beautiful spring, in the Pacific Northwest, as it runs a distance thru rocks/sediment! Will check out your "Alkalinizing kit".
