I'm an oldschool grower. And one thing I keep seeing is all these new products and all this new equipment I never had, leading to all kinds of new problems I never had.
I will plunk a few carefully selected seeds with the desired genetics into a few solo cups and 5 months later I harvest about 1lb of premium quality bud per plant and a gob of the best bubble hash on the planet.
All it costs me is time, my home made compost, and water.
Why you guys keep complicating this for yourselves and making this cost thousands of dollars is still the greatest mystery to me.
    But whatever floats your boat

      I understand that...
And before it was legal, I had to do the same thing...
But there is a lot of wisdom in keeping things as simple as possible..
These guys who introduce all these chemical concoctions and expensive equipment would be better off just buying it from someone else...
I never had all the fears, problems, or worries they seem to have and keep throwing money at..
      It's ridiculous..

I grow in 100% compost that I make myself, so most of these issues don't occur with me. Bugs and overwatering aside, although I've never had an issue with pests. This year, I grew outdoors - now that I know the law and understand that every veg plant is 100% legal - and my results are 1,000% better. I had one Laughing Buddha plant that was very compact (I got cuttings) and dense. In flower now, and I essentially have a plant the size of a beach ball, that is a solid nug. Plus, it flowered before my other Sativas and even the Indicas! She's a keeper for sure.

Here's a tip... Spray your plants for Caterpillars.... I grow in California and not sure if it's the climate but once my plants begin to flower, Caterpillars become an issue. Neem oil works amazing... Mix Neem oil with some dish soap and spray... I add Compost tea to it... works amazing.

People always ask how I keep my plants looking so nice, since I have around 30 per room, and they are always surprised when I tell them that most of the plants only require water once or twice a week. Letting the soil dry out completely is incredibly important.

Like old days you get nutrients lockout a few days in sunlights or make sure not to hot burn the leaves but the sunlights is best out of all light with exceptions of lights and control of photosynthesis of light cycles or best to imitates natural environments or specific plants requires or optimal growing to different strains or genetics for say.

Ph wont matter unless your way off. My water is very alkaline. Comes out the tap at 10 most the time. Its sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) in my water. Ph down makes a big difference even in my living soil with tones of microbes and buffers in it. I will get interveinal chlorosis if I don't ph down. It that looks like textbook magnesium decency but I think its actually just a nitrogen imbalance at high ph that causes it. I feed Epsom salt and calcium heavy with every watering with my jacks 321 so I don't thing its magnesium or calcium. Corrects itself if I keep ph below 7.2

Hey man check out a company called
      Sierra Natural Science.
They offer systemic pest control products.
I've been using one of their products as a prevent for almost 20 years.
And I haven't had a insect problem since.
Most of their products you can use as a root drench or a spray.
I don't like spraying anything on my plants.
So I use their product as a root drench.
As soon as the plant sprouts, I start adding their product to my water.
The plant takes it up and insects stay away.
One less thing to worry about.
      Also it's all organic.
Check it out, you won't be sorry.

Yeah watering…. More so than watering the quality of the water is actually a very common mistake. Scheme water from my end of the world is full of chlorine and medicinal twang. RO water.

    LMFAO 🤣😆🤣😆.
I know you misspoke, but I was rolling.
When you said perlite holds air.
    It made my morning, thanks.
    But there is one thing
( I think ) that should have been in your top 5.
    And that is environment.
Which lights could have been put into this category.
    Anyway
Most new growers don't even think about it.
    Well they think about it.
    But they don't understand it.
They don't understand how truly important it really is.
    With that said.
    I dig your show.
You and your little buddy, off camera, work well together.
Like the Abbott and Costello of the cannabis industry. Lol.
    Anyway take care.
    Later.
    Oh wait.
    I forgot something.
You always state, how important pH is.
I was wondering, if you could touch on the subject of pH drift.
When growing with aero and hydro.
I'm sure that there isn't to many new growers attempting to grow this way at the beginning.
But man, I had a very hard time with this when I first started growing with aero.
I never even heard of it before. After growing in soil for 30 years.
But man it had me pulling my hair out for the longest time.
I just couldn't grasp the concept of why it was happening so much and so fast.
But finally, I found a old forum with people discussing this problem.
And there was a lot of people having this problem.
And it was a very long discussion.
And after reading pages and pages of this discussion over many days.
Finally this one guy got into the discussion and started explaining it.
And he was having a hard time.
Well no he wasn't having a hard time.
It was all the people that were trying to understand the concept of why it was happening and how to control it.
As you know everybody out there is a expert ( in their own mind).
And this discussion got very hot.
But this guy that knew what he was talking about. Stuck with it.
    Trying to help these people.
Which actually helped me to understand why the pH would drift down or up within a hour. What was causing it and how to control it so it doesn't happen so dramatically.
    Anyway.
    Later.
