Now THATS a dang good looking blade. Great finish and blade design. Make an awesome camp kitchen knife. I’m betting it will hold an edge very very well. 👍👍
I think that’s the most useful knife design ever. If it had a full tang with a flat butt it could be used for pounding on to drive knife through material to split wood and things. Saved and will use this later 👍👍
Done correctly, stick tang knives are very strong. Historically, most knives in most cultures around the world were/are made stick tangs. Even the powerful khukuri of Nepal and India is made with stick tangs. And they're designed for heavy chopping. There are full tang versions too but stick tang is more common and traditional. Stick tangs only started being a problem for the modern RUclips survival/bushcraft/prepper scene when folks suddenly wanted to use their knives like axes and smash them through massive hardwood logs without breaking. 🙄 Yes, they are "weak" if you beat on it like a Neanderthal all day long. If you need to process seriously large pieces of wood...bring an axe. Like we've done since Otzi. Or get a full tang monstrosity to beat on but it's only a matter of time before they'll eventually break too.
That's a very interesting perspective you give. And I do believe you are probably right about the history, however I am curious how that would work with fighting knives in particular daggers because with a fighting knife usually you want to balance to be at the cross guard. Wouldn't a stick tang always be blade heavy? I know that the khukuri is more of a chopper but still I would imagine it would handle better if it had more weight in the handle. Also full tang is stronger that has got to be a benefit if nothing is lost or compromised.
@@simontilbey Depends on the style of fighting. Khukuris are designed to be blade heavy for the chop and cut. But a properly made one will still balance well in hand because of the distal taper.... something not often seen in American made knives
@@pennsyltuckyreb9800 oh yes I had forgotten about distal taper that would make a difference, also I'm guessing that by adding a pummel on the but end of the knife that would help with balance. I am planning to make my own and I am working on the design at the moment. I appreciate your insight.
I always thought about making a knife from a old file. Watching your video, i am now going to make an attempt. I dont have all the proper sansers but i have a palm sander a dremmil and a multpurpurpius hand held has a sanding attachment. Thanks for the start to finish video because of your video i am going to attempt a build of the perfect survival knife. Yours not mine lol. Cheers ..
Would have been both better and stronger if it had a full tang and not just glue the handle on, surely will be the first thing to go bye bye. Love the blade design though and keeping the original file hatching on it just makes it more unique :)
Personally I don't like my survival knife to have full Tang, nor rat tail either, I prefer a totally covered three quarter tang. As sometimes in an emergency you have to pry something electrical open. Not ideal, but happens.
May i ask why you didn't incorporate the file tange into the desing, was it two thin? Your patern would have worked if you spun it around, i just basically drew it cut it out and put against similar file and it was more practical
So I have to know, how often did you accidentally hit your fingertips and nails with that wire wheel setup? Only asking because I used to do the same thing myself and would only notice the wheel grinding off nails when the heat built up and I would flinch from the pain. Eventually I wised up and began to wear gloves. Initially any gloves that I could find even knit ones and cloth until one day I was using an angle grinder for an extended period and stopped once I noticed my bench catch fire from the mixture of sawdust and hot metal filings. I then noticed that both the tops to my knit work gloves had melted down to bare skin and I had a huge melted slightly smoking hole in my hoodie too. I only wear leather ones now and check my clothing often.
WONDERFUL, I have no words, always super perfect and unique precise product, wonderful work and video, well done and good luck, respect from old BG. p.s. It is a great pleasure for me to see that there are such precise people in the world, and that of the White race!!!
Amazing. .. that is one fine knife , loving the handle...and all from an old file

Knife turned out hella dope, Sart Smith! Now you've got to stitch up an equally dope sheath for it!

Its a knife, not a prybar, chisel, or hammar.
What an awesome transformation 👏👏

That handle is seriously ❤❤❤❤
Really good hand work 👍👍Beautiful knife 👍👍
Very nicely done. :)
Why not keep the tang as large as possible? Seems like that would be the weakest point.

Why bother to cut a new tang when you already had one ?

I like it
Luar biasa keren
Wow
Mantap Man👍👍🏿👍
Never use a new file on a old file unless you aneal it. Old file are good steel and higher carbon
Pisau yang indah , slice tysu please...😍🇮🇩
Verygood perfece
Superbe.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
a nice knife but it is not made from an old "Datei"(file or data) but from an old "Feile"(file or rasp)
Muito linda
Mantap👍👍👍👍👍
What specific file did you use?
I want that one
Hi.can I ask you pls what tipe of glue you use for wood handle?
Thanks
a file files to file a file and then files it down so the file becomes a knife made from a file
👍🤟✌️
Why did you make the tang and not use the tang that was already on the file?
File traduces into 'Feile' in German, as far as the tool is concerned.
😊😊😊
Que presio,,me gusta ría comprar uno
how much would you charge for that knife?
What kind of glue is this one? And how does it works?
chapeau
Would you be able to send the drawing of this piece? 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Why did you heat and quench? It's already hardened.
No he annealed it before he even began cutting on it, so he needed to quench it back to ideal hardness.
Just seen this video can't understand why you did the tang like that it's the same as the handle part why not use that instead?????
Hermoso trabajo, una obra extraordinaria, felicitaciones 👏
Where can we purchase this ,what is it's price
The file has a tang! Why don't you use it?!?!? That way you can do a bigger knife!!!
Do you sell them?
do you have a store?
