what is liquid in 10:20 ? thanks
it's ferric chloride
Looks like grape syrup "pekmez" 😋
Ha, it may look like grape syrup on the video, but you definitely don't want to drink it!
Ferric chloride is a strong acid. FYI.
the function??
This is the video that started it all...my obsession with knife making. You made a beautiful piece there. My first file knife was very rough, but it’s a file from my wife’s grandfather’s tool box and it’s definitely a keeper! I made a grinding jig like yours and copied many other techniques from your video to make our keepsake. Now I have an anvil and a new grinder and my knife making shop is progressing... I have you to thank for this new way to be a maker at 70 years old!
Salute to you sir..I am 49 and finally getting my first 2x72 ....Cannot Wait!!!!......Never to Old...Cheers!!
I gotta start posting video's based on the comments people present for well intentioned, but mediocre work like this, I could be making a fortune. Now get yourself a forging press, and a power hammer so you can speed up your work and make damascus (pattern welded is the real name), etc... then you will be real happy.....Plus get a second 2x72, one for hard profiling, and hollow grinds, etc...the other for your saber and flat grinds, and small wheel work....Saves a lot of time from changing belts, and tooling arms, and some grinders have options others do not. When you start buying steel instead of using old files, you will want a decent band saw, much better than cutting it all slowly with an angle grinder, good drill press of course you likely have that, and you need a post/leg vice and some good heavy duty and small duty vices and clamps all over the damn place cuz you will use them.....but the blacksmith post vice is a must, as you can hit it like an anvil pretty much, and much better for doing certain bends or twists if making damascus, or even art work

I love this design. Keeping some of the file's soul adds a lot of character to it.

Also has utility
For more than a year I've been looking for a process like yours. It got really beautiful, just the inspiration I needed to try one here as well. Thank you and congratulations for your work!
Kinda funny watching you file a file. Amazing job seriously beautiful.
Is it too possible I can learn this power?
I used the files to file the files
this power.... its.... inhuman.
I used The File to file the file
it’s called ironic
Leaving part of it with the file still there is brilliant. Perfect knife. I would rock that thing all day.
BRITAIN WANTS TO KNOW YOUR LOCATION
While I like how much work the man has put in to that file, I disagree with leaving half the blade as course as it was. I imagine using that knife to actually cut things would result in many things getting stuck on the ridges of the old file.
@@keksitzee1094 It's a combat weapon. Of course you want those things to happen. It would cause way more damage. And, I'm a knife collector, unless you're cutting something like cheese or other food, nothing would get stuck in there. If you're using it for camping reasons, then it's just as good because you'll have a file and a knife. And, what would you cut that would get stuck in there? If you're cutting things with a knife like that, that would have pieces getting stuck in it, then you're probably not using it right.
Console MonsterX As a knife collector, you should know better. This couldn’t be a combat knife as it has no quillon to stop the hand sliding onto the blade when used for stabbing.
@@PapaKiloProductions Well you don't seem to know much about knives. There are literally thousands of knives and swords that are built for combat that have no type of hand guard what so ever. Look at almost all real switch blades. Most of them have nothing. They are straight handles with a switch. The blade comes out of the top and that's it. That's the knife. And they are meant to be used for combat. They aren't hunting or camping blades. Of course not all of them are like that. Look at some Japanese swords that have no guard so that they are flush with the sheath. Look at the kukri. Just because it's not a perfect design doesn't mean it's not a combat knife. Look at most folding knives. Same thing. I have a bunch of knives that don't have any hand protection. Shit, look at the balisong. Sorry bud. You're wrong.
There's something VERY clean and sleek about this blade. What a finished product!!
I know it's beautiful I have issues getting clean lines with my 1x30
This is godlike. I'm not talking about your crafting skills, I'm talking about your sense of aesthetics and perception of how such an object would make an out of this world knife.
I've wanted to make knives for years but have never got started this video sparked that interest again, you have got some serious skill👍
Well, I guess it's time to forge ahead...hah!
Files like this benefit from having their teeth ground off and then some forging before grinding.
Knife looks beautiful & and it looks like we can use it as knife & file; nice idea! Thank you !

I especially love the way you kept some of the rough file's design on the new sharp blade
One the most elegantly simple designs I've ever seen. Keep up the amazing work.
There’s something satisfying as a guy that works with his hands and has an appreciation for every tool. To see the time put into this and imagine the new life breathed into a potentially worn tool so that tool lives on to provide use well into the future is amazing. Very beautiful knife and one I would be proud to have in my workshop if I was capable of making one. Damascus has its beauty, this is a beauty of a whole different level.
