- ( www.TFLtruck.com ) The 2015 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 4X4 is the only 4-wheel-Drive van that you can purchase in A,erica as Andre found out in this TFLTruck 2015 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 4X4 Van review recently.

Bought the ginormous 170 extended cargo Sprinter 4x4 for work and I gotta say, I don't know how I ever lived without this thing. I live and work in the northern Rockies and go to untamed job sites all the time that are WAY off the beaten path and often times not plowed yet. I can get all my tools and equipment to jobs easily now with tons of room to spare. Now all my contractor buddies with their trucks are super jealous. Nice to have your stuff being protected from the elements. I can fit 16' lumber in the back of this beast too! One van to rule them all!
+2WhiteAndNerdy
Does seem like they'd be a real game changer in those types of remote/undeveloped areas for many trades. SRW or can you get 4wd in the DRW? (guess I can look that up myself...) Bet Diamler will do well with this option.
Don Leamon
Yup! You can get it in both SRW (the 2500) or DRW (the 3500).
2WhiteAndNerdy too bad it's out of my budget :( it would be great to have a van with 4×4 I will also work in construction and a standard can has no traction at all in snow most likely I'm getting a 2008-2010 F250/F350 4×4 with V10 also because I plan on towing gooseneck in the future :/ maybe I might get one on the future
that air filter you pulled out is the cabin air filter. the engine air filter is that big ass box right on top of the engine. it's a pain in the ass to replace.
I've wanted this vehicle to come to america for more than ten years. I used to maintain a fleet of sprinter ambulances and wanted them in 4x4! If only I could get an old CDI motor with the 4x4. Thanks for the review.
Happy to see Roman using all of Andrey's talents instead of just brake temps and a Russian gopher and comedic foil. Keep on TFL truckin.
I drive one of these sans 4x4 daily ... add the high roof, long wheel base as well and I could not imagine how high the CG would be. As it is with its profile and narrow track, they are a handful on uneven driveway entries, etc.
As far as the engine, I drive the same V6T and the mileage is subpar from what we were accustomed to with the older Freightliner/Dodge/Sprinter I5T. So much so in fact, that the company I work for de-tuned them by 20% trying to gain fuel mileage. All it really has done is make them a pooch to drive. Highway speed stability on snow/ice is remarkable while low speed traction is marginal unless you have significant weight onboard.
just noticed the guy say how easy it is to access things under bonnet a. He grabbed a filter and said this is the air filter, its actually only the cabin air filter. The engine air filter takes special torx tools to access ( its in the centre under a large plastic cover.)., also a comment below says why would you want one of these ,? I need to access work sites that are off road , or in the snow. the all wheel drive is essential. thanks Mercedes.
I really like these reviews Andre does.
You see plenty of these up here in the North of Scotland with the utilities companies. They are totally decked out with winches and sump guards etc. These are the reason why utility companies don't by Land Rovers anymore!
Dear TFL truck. I had commented previously on the Chevy, Ford, Dodge MPG test that it would be really helpful to know what the idle consumption is. I would like to request that you take the Sprinter out on an MPG test as well. If you could do a video about the idle consumption as well that would be super cool helpful information. Both the 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder diesels. I think they both need to see the ike Gauntlet as well. American trucks seem to have no problem so let us see The Sprinter go! You could throw in the pro master and the transit is well if you want. Even though we all know the Sprinter can't be beat.
How was this a review? You listed the options and the obvious for 75% of the video, and the most off-road you went was a dirt road.
What sort of mileage numbers did you get? This looks perfect for a base model to be customized. I'm surprised that it only has a five-speed automatic transmission.
I would love to get one of these and make a stealth camper
A different model costs $38000. Why the hell dont you tell us how the one were looking at costs.
+Mr Fingers it costs approx 55000 with options and 4x4.
try again.. more then that. Everything is a option on the POS . I would know I just bought a new 2017
my 2016 4x4 was 57,450 $
Honestly, I think I'd rather have AWD with good EDS (ABS antilock) and a limited-slip in the center... at least as compared to a transfer case that can't be shifted at any reasonable speed, like even a NP205. Apparently there is also a Quigley TC conversion for the Express.
Hey Andre, good review.. Dont no if the paint on the mercedes vans is different in the US, but here in the UK you see a lot of rusty Sprinters that are only a few years old
the u.s. spec vans still have that shitty paper thin paint. lol. couple that with the salt we usually throw on the roads to combat ice and they rust really bad and really fast
Why isn't the Sprinter available here in the USA with 4wd? I've never seen one where I live. They're always rear-wheel drive, which is fine. But why not offer a 4x4 for those who need one, or want one?
IntheLowcountry Are they? I've never heard of that option until this video.
Jason Carpp Yes, the 4x4 Sprinter is a factory option from Mercedes, and it is on sale in USA now. However, they are nearly sold out for 2015. There is a big demand. The 4x4 option costs $6,500 or 4x4 with low range is $6,800.
The Fast Lane Truck Ah! Ok. It's a little out of my price range.
Jason Carpp If I'm not mistaken it was added as an option for the 2015 model year, so wasn't available on previous models.
1guyin10 That explains it.
I have a 2006 sprinter 4x4 best van I have ever had
Well done Andre!!!
As tested what was the cost of this one with 4X4 option and what was the fuel economy?
So you did a review with no specifics of engine displacement, hp or torque figures. or even cost???????
Hi, What have they done so the vans don't rust out after 2 Ohio winters. It's really sad to see them so rusted. Or are they still offering free paint jobs.
A dirt road is not really off road IMHO. It would have been nice to see it really off road. Maybe talk about the turning radius. The 4wd system. Ground clear, skid plates, etc. Not looking for a jeep review but lots of us actually camp in the middle of nowhere, and actually do some off road driving to get there.
Great review, Andre.
aconfusedazn Thanks!
You guys should test a quigley 4x4 ford transit and compare it to one of these. They are simularly priced. I'm trying to decide between the 2 now
I would buy a nice late model body on frame Econoline and send it for a Super duty front axle conversion. heavier duty and cheaper parts.
Nice one André ! nice one!
cracklvm Thanks!
hey man quick question,do you think it could tow a 3,5 tonne trailer???your response would be appreciated
Lots of people don’t like the, because expensive to maintain and their is only one Mercedes dealer in my state so for some people dealer might be 500 miles away for service
failed to mention the as tested price, and vehicle specs. Capacity, weight, mpg, things of this nature...
Good van but a dumb review. The most interesting thing I personally wanted to see is 4x4 and low range switches/levers and how to engage and disengage presentation. Re-watch your video yourself and see what you showed. Absolutely nothing that differs this model from 2x4.
0dq0 and lots of cows and bullshit.
SuperMike hehehe Dem puns
Yeah his reviews are dumb
I saw a 4x4 and it looked sick
awesome video! thanks for sharing!
Engine numbers !? Thanks for talking about number of seats and where the washer fluid is but leave out the specs.
What was the size of that mac you had in the storage box, 11'' or 13''?
Andre did a great review. I hope Nissan makes a 4wd NV
Thanks Jonas. At this time only the aftermarket has 4x4 systems for the NV and other vans.
Hopefully the future may hold a 4wd from Nissan if the Merc sells well in 4wd trim. I believe NV is on the titan frame thus making it an easy application. 2 wheel drive vans are not great in the snow belt for workers. Also what do you guys think of a 4wd big van like this in overland / camper trim?
It would make a great overland camper
Nice video Andre nice one
Erik Bravo Leon Thanks!
Andrey Smirnov you're welcome
The Mercedes Metris would be amazing with 4x4, although that probably would never happen.
Joe Finch It is available in Europe with 4x4 as the Mercedes Benz Vito panel van or the Vito Tourer
Is the Sprinter 4x4 good for cattle wrangling?
Lots of shops won’t touch a Mercedes
i love this van
Andre is awesome
RAJohnson713 No, you are awesome!
Everything is awesome!
+aconfusedazn everything is cool when you're part of a team
Nice video but your music is ""W A Y T O L O U D ""
LivingAdream
wish chevy would make one from factory. i much prefer the american style vans.
What's with the flashing front headlights?
hey , maintenance ... everything is in easy reach , how about the oil filter .. have you tried changing that ? ..how about an off road review , specs , driver insight .. -this was the 4x4 model correct ? ..p/s not really interested in cows , bulls or bullshit " i was hoping for an honest driving review - very disappointed .
What about fully loaded van on off-road?????
Would make a great sportsmobile
Brian T Yep. Sportsmobile already make RV version of the Sprinter 4x4. :)
Andrey Smirnov That's something you oughtta review! By the way is that a 3 liter turbo diesel or something else?
T Ritchie It's a 3 liter V6 turbo diesel. Produces 190 hp, 325 lb-ft or 440 nm of tourqe.
For a van that don't sound to bad. From my experience with Vans (admittedly older ones)they tend to be top heavy so you mostly need them to move good on interstates but not to use for hotrodding.I can think of good practical uses for a van. Even like somebody said to make into a small RV. Although at the moment I'm leaning more toward getting a Truck or SUV when I can.
Can you do a mpg test like your other videos?
W0JMR We can - if we get this van at our home office (near Denver). We are trying to get it.
+W0JMR the 3 liter engine will give you 17.5 mpg at 80 miles/hr and more than 22 mpg at 60 or under. city mpg 15-16. mine, used as a vacation vehicle, has 13,300 miles with an average of 18.9 mpg. a 6th gear would have been nice as the engine shows 3000rpm at 80 miles/hr. the 2.1 liter engine is much better on gas, has decent power but does not come with 4x4.
Will it go up Goldmine Hill?
that is my retirement overland vehicle.
looooove German cars.i wish i had a car like this.
Why were the headlights flashing?
+Ashton Nelson
Probably done for safety but they are very unsettling.
Don't be daft..you know what he is talking about.
yes..I'm the stupid pig
It’s not the car it’s cameras they do it to a lot of cars
Because they are LEDs
Yeah, put some 38" tires and a front and rear locker on this baby, I know my new overlanding vehicle! (yes, I'm kidding....mostly)
+rogue109 or maybe go for 44" ? already done in Iceland
Böðvar Jónsson
Sweet!
I want one!
whats its ability for partial immersion in water?
+Mac Man 24'' for the 4x4 model, 20 for the rear wheel drive.
whats the city and highway mpg
More please
"the air filter is here" pulls out cabin filter 🤦♂️
Why all the Loud Music?
i was sad to watch one ending its life on i10 last week...judging by the blackness of its cloud and the lack of speed it was a diesel probably low and bad coolant and the idiot driver wasnt stopping to try to fix it, just letting it cook...my truck is twice as old with double the miles im sure and its just as important to have enough, good coolant as it is changing your oil
Forgot to tell us the engine specs! Great otherwise!
Justin Kelly I did not have the spec. sheet in the mountain wilderness. :( But the 3.0L V6 turbo-diesel makes 181 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque.
Andrey Smirnov I thought it was 188 hp?
Andrey Smirnov Are you guys on track to be in Illinois tomorrow for MMUSA?!
Justin Kelly This clown isn't the real Andre, look at how he spells his forename❗️The guys nothing but a goddamned imposter‼️😡🙀👺👎🏻🚬🔫
MrKeyboardCommando To be honest, I think you're wrong. That is the real Andre, he spells his name the Russian way. If you look at his google plus page, Roman Mica has him in his circles.
Error as soon as he opens the bonnet, sorry the Hood! That's the pollen filter you tool!! Not the air filter.
Air filter is on top of the motor and service is a pain
I see what Mercedes is trying to do, but who would ever go off roading in a van that big and tall? Its just not practical
VarietyBacon It's not for rock crawling, it's for addressing specific problems for specific regions. UPS has problems delivering to steep dirt driveways in the boonies, I live in Lake County CA and the existing Sprinter delivery vans struggle here. I don't know why Chevy doesn't offer an electronically locking diff in their Express AWD transfer case, there's off-the-shelf parts for things like that.
Seems underpowered to have an 4x4 drivetrain in such a heavy vehicle.
This dude is so wrong on how to "shift" into 4WD. stopped and in Neutral.
Who is this model of Adidas
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
did you just say holy cow?
why would you want 4wd on a cargo van?
walker h Because not every job site is on pavement or in the south where it never snows.
walker h why wouldn't you want 4wd on a cargo van?
walker h Snow in the north, mud in the south. Everyplace you have ever been in your entire life at one time didn't have a paved road running to it.
chevydiesel350015 Don't forget that the mud, sand and water in the south is an all year thing. Texas was under water for 2 weeks and I bet a lot of contractors wish they had the 4x4 Sprinter
walker h My uncle owns a high roof, long wheelbase Sprinter for logistics work up in New England as an independent contractor. Let me tell you, he got stuck in snow quite a few times last winter. With even a little bit of snow and a fully loaded van, rear wheel drive was squirrely and all over the place! 4x4 would've been nice!
holy cow.
0:23 A Tatra sticker?
O.o
Ahoj!
:-)
If you can't use the 4-wheel drive on pavement then its completely useless
+CrazyIrishCarl You can use it on pavement if it has snow or whatnot on it, which is when you'd need to use it. All part-time systems function like that. They are very good for snowy conditions.
why would you need 4x4 on dry pavement? and because its not an all wheel drive system you will get driveline bind trying to turn the wheel. in winter conditions it isnt a huge concern. modify your driving style.
You can use it on dry pavement but it will get damaged as it will get transmission windup because there is no differential in the transfer box. All time 4x4s have a centre diff.
***** In case you need to go off of it.
***** Wow, cool down mate. And yes, for going down the highway you don't need it, but you might in deep snow or if you have to go off-highway, which is why to have it.
Are you going to take this van up your hill?
Too bad you did not do any real 4x4 trails. Your show could of been done by a vw bug.
No probably a bug but even worse a Prius could have done it better than this
Hunk of plastic looks like a giant Tupperware
7:13
You know who's awesome read the first word again
WTF is with those side lights flashing all the time it looks kinda stupid and definitely annoying
kinda like motorcycles. gets your attention so you're more safe I guess.
+Old Hemp Difference between camera recording and LED flashing sequence.
Us in europe, get that when we film our street lights with U.S spec Iphone cameras.
just bought a 2017 . This review is misleading. I can tell you all the negatives about the van if you like. The van is over rated big time, and this man must be getting paid to do this review
Why don't you want to drive 4x4 on drive pavement?
It can cause axle binding, i.e. you will have too much grip resulting in the extra force moving through the driveline which can cause breakages.
Ian Parsons i own this Van and no it will not bind up on the pavement in 4 WD. total miss information on the video
Stephane Moisan
You mean it hasn't happened to you yet. Save yourself a fortune and don't use it when you don't need it. Everything has a limited life span.
Kenton Hughes listen at 4:56 in the video
Kenton Hughes l live in British Columbia and I always travel up in the mountains and I've had the Van for over a year. 4wd in the mountains sometimes snow pavement ice no problems
окей
Try just a little harder to spook the cattle.
holy cow. lol...
These things are ugly.
Orange peel on a Mercedes? Yuck.
