I just bought a 2019 metris passenger van for my side business. Took the back row out, has a lot of room. If you want luxury in a van, go for toyota or Honda, but if u want commercial use while not feeling like a POS commercial van, this is great. I don’t store inventory in my van, so glass windows work. Also, glass windows in back rows DO NOT roll down. Which is a huge disappointment. Solid vehicle for being a van, and pretty exclusive as you see 100 siennas and odyssey’s before seeing a metris, let alone a passenger one.
I like that it's turbo and RWD. The Transit Connect and its competitors are more car-like, FWD with naturally aspirated four cylinders. And the bigger Transit van is more like a Sprinter, which I have driven and do like. The Metris really interests me as a mid-size.
You are right! Front wheel drive sucks, except maybe in small sedans. Even 4 wheel or all wheel drive systems based on rwd are better than fwd based ones. The handling dynamics of front engine, rear wheel drive is far superior. No serious quality car, truck, or van is front wheel drive.
As far as I know neither Honda nor Toyota are giving up on the minivan market.. So there will be stiff competition on the passenger side of their segment.. Oh and thanks for not showing us a single clip of the interior passenger areas.. Come on, are you just teasing us or did they prohibit you from filming the insides? We wanna see!
Test drive one of these, then go test a Honda/Chrysler or Toyota.... I just hauled 20 4x8 sheets of Rock in my 05 Odyssey... Metris is short on a LOT of Standard items.
I drove sprinters when I was stationed in Germany. Older ones but still. I was really surprised at how tight they turned. Got one up to 147 KPH on the autobahn.
Very dumb move not to offer 4matic especially in the northern states. This was my next van until no all wheel drive option. This is the perfect size for what I need it for. I'm driving a Chevy express awd cargo van now and need the awd option for the winter. I now have 2 settle on a awd sienna which is not cargo van but it will have 2 do. Thanks mercedes..
Seems like like it might make a good package hauler. Kinda puts me in mind of a guy at work. He's trying to get into the DJ business so he bought a van to haul his equipment in. Said with a Truck it would get rained on plus he'd have to take it in every night. I think their will be a market for it.Just not sure how big. On a side note I'm surprised at how much power these modern 4 bangers are putting out. I didn't have very good luck with 4 cylinders when I was younger but starting to think I may be alright with some of these newer ones.
Just curious why Mercedes would only give 47" between the walls in a passenger van. It means you cannot put any standard paneling flat on the floor. The fuel filler is also a bit of a challenge for those over 5'10"
Do you guys know if this will also be offered through Freightliner like the Sprinter? Some commercial operations will not want to pull up to a potential customer's house with that big Mercedes emblem screaming "I'm going to charge you way too much."
This is beautiful and we'd be really interested if they'd make a front or four wheel drive version for people who live in the real world. Now to figure out where to be heard with that comment :).
In Europe this is called a Vito. I drove a cargo model around Germany and the Czech Republic late this summer. It had a high roof for cargo room and a diesel with a 6 speed transmission. Typical comfort and an all around nice vehicle. Love to see more diesels here in the US.
The Metris? Never heard. This Van was sold in the European Market under the name V-Class and it's a premium van, the rival of the famous Volkswagen T6 Multivan oder Business Van here in Germany. Availabe in three different sizes, four different models, different engines and also available as a four wheel drive. Gasoline engines are not available. This US passenger version looks so cheap inside, like a delivery van. It's not the same car.
WHY they put regular glass on the passenger mirror is beyond me. [same as driver mirror glass] I ordered a van, but I have to buy the small round convex mirror to stick on the passenger mirror. Mirrors are very tiny for a van capable of no windows on sides/rear. Crazy..........
Test drove one today. Horrible. Total failure. Here is the short view : The good : 1. It is large, but not huge. It is very easy to see out in every direction. Easy ingress wide opening doors, easy operating sliding doors. The back door was a fold-up door on a test vehicle which I hate but it was fine working as long as you watch your head. Trunk is decent with 3 rows up, wide and easy to get to due to the low floor level. 2. It looks ok on every angle, better on the front as the rear is a bit too utilitarian but not ugly from any angle. 3. Materials are commercial grade, durable easy to clean and still have a decent feel. Design is simple and body seems like a aerodynamic shape. 4. Steering and suspension was decent, ride was comfortable but not floaty 5. Transmission shifted nicely, only 6 spd but it was ok. Nothing spectacular but good and smooth shifting, no jerkyness or jumps even on quick 6th to 3rd downshifts. 6. The truck held its own at 80-85 miles per hour, no waving no shaking, no floating. The bad : 1. Horrible controls - small buttons, illogical placement of every single button. After 10 minutes none of could figure out a way to change the rear a/c settings. 2. The 2nd and 3rd row of seats don't fold. nothing. Not even the seat back. They are fix benches. Sure they are removable but that is it. They are heavy and bulky to remove and again - non folding. 3. Engine is noisy, gutless and vibrates like a diesel. I know it is small and turbo charged but this was once weak thing in there. It needs to grow in size. 2.5-2.7l at least. Fuel economy would be similar but this truck has no power to make it feel confident on a road. 4. There was a weird howl at 65-70 miles an hour which will make most people's head hurt. It might have been the cheap tires - some awkward Korean brand tires are the factory ones but could be from mirrors or the normal road noise. Either way it was a very disturbing resonance/vibration that I heard before in bad cars. 5. Radio and a/c placement is ok but the way they look is so 1990's and not the good ones. Old design, very old, like early cell phone style. Mirror switch is hard to operate, kept pushing buttons and nothing hapend until I literally pushed the button so hard it was almost painful. 6. Outside mirrors leave a huge blind spot. Their shape, and angle is horrible. I had to rely on turning my head and luckily the windows are huge and easy to see out. Mirrors are all small and useless. 7. Interior is just ok up front but the rear is horrible. One cup holder thingy per side which looks like a walmart 99 cent item, no pockets on the doors, no place to put anything in a back. Like a huge room with nothing in it but 2 bench. 8. Seats are vinyl which is ok but at 40+k usd, they could have used a better vinyl. Still that was not my problem. Seat bottom is narrow and pushes on your tights. I'm 5'11 and 174lbs and average build, so not obese and it felt narrow for me. I like tight seats, but this was painful after 20 minutes. The lumbar support is a nice feature. On the Matris it can be adjusted up/down in/out. But in a 30 minutes ride, I would not find one way when it was good. The seat back always felt weird and uncomfortable. 9. Steering wheel - the wheel is a plastic wheel, but good feel. The angle is where the trouble lays. It can only be adjusted up and down, no in/out. The seat is always too high and the wheel angle never feels comfortable. Just odd and weird, too much of a trucker like... again if it is not easy and immediately comfortable it will just get worse with more time behind the wheel. 10. Fuel economy was supposed to be 21-24mpg on average and in a short 30 minute ride we averaged 16. I did push it a little to see how it good (it does not) we also did a 10 minutes of constant 65mph highway ride. The truck never felt strong, just acceptable and any type of going needed a strong push on the pedal. No guts is the correct term here. 11. Transmission shifts up in a second the truck stops accelerating. It causes several up and downshifts which are smooth but still due to the whiny engine you can hear it. Not much feel but audible noises. overall - poor design interior, small randomly placed buttons and cheap looking rear section with no places to put items, a gutless engine, a constantly up-shifting transmission, absolutely no versatility on the seats, no storage places, no cubbies, no hidden storages, just acceptable exterior shape and design, so-so fuel economy and 40k+ price tag (our model was a modest model at $41,600 most upgraded ones at 45k) this is one bad Van. Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna are much better choices but I have to say even the Ford Transit Connect is better then this Van. Its a failure from the 3 pointed star and a huge one. Their full size Van's are great and priced reasonably. This one is expensive and very bad.
it's not my choice for a van for me. I cannot understand the rear-wheel-drive on this van with no option for AWD. I am used to Sienna and Odyssey both are fwd.
Why test drive in the rockies-if not AWD? How well does this car perform in the winter in/around Dunton (where your review comes from). I live in Telluride and am reluctant to purchase a car the is FWD only.
question to the uploder of this video. does the metris have the capability to carry heavy ladders on top of the van. like for contracting type of business. is it capable of supporting ladder racks above the van like American commercial vans. and if so can it carry a sizable load on the racks. please contact me back when you can
I'm confused, I only know two sizes when it comes to vans; minivan and van. They're "mini" for a reason and now we're bring the words mid-size into this?! Idk anymore. So what's the one competitor, Mazda 5? That's a *real* minivan, it's compact. Kia Rondo is already gone too.
Desu Gun This van is a bit bigger than the current Dodge Caravan. It's bigger than the Ford Transit Connect, Ram Promaster City, and Nissan NV200. They are calling it "midsize" because it's bigger than those and smaller than the traditional full-size vans (Chevy Express, Ford Transit, etc).
+Desu Gun - no, there are many sizes. This is bigger then the mini-van but not necessary roomier. Its a small big van in every way, more in the negative then positive way. stay away from it. Ford Transit Connect - the new one - is a much better choice.
I actually LOVE the OUTSIDE looks of this van. My only hesitation on perhaps purchasing one is the RWD feature and the interior quality. Oh and lets certainly not forget the lack of interior amenities and pizazz. Us folks in the Northeast need either FWD or better yet AWD so i'm not "sold" on this quite yet. Plus the "fit and finish" for a Mercedes is quite lacking in the passenger version. I mean c'mon Mercedes no wood trim accents or much chrome for that matter. The fabric looks almost like it was made of microfiber or something. And last but not least the starting prices is absolutely ridiculous given everything I just mentioned above. I'd rather put that kind of money out for a fully loaded AWD Toyota Sienna...!!! So listen up Mercedes if you think your going to win over buyers in the minivan segment with this people hauler. Well then you had better "up the ante" BIGTIME (interior wise) especially for your passenger version...(g)
+tomtalker2000 30K for a MB van is "absolutely ridiculous"? I think people like you is the reason why people end up with sub quality automobiles and eventually pay a lot of money for reliability issues.
+pingkai On the contrary, Toyotas have impeccable quality, anyone who knows about cars knows this. Benz cars on the other hand can't hold a candle when it comes to reliability.
Better get an extended warranty service because maintenance and repairs are going to be just like any MBenz vehicle. The entry price sounds affordable but with options it will be priced on the mid 50s.
I liked the idea of driving a Benz van at this reasonable price point. But it looks like a rounded minivan, meaning the interior space isn't square enough - that's a waste. And it might be still a bit too large to street park. This category is all about utility, guys!
"I Caught up with" What a joke..AKA.. I get paid by Mercedes. Might be worthwhile if it had a Diesel. EVERYONE else uses a V6, why would you want the hassle of a Turbo? Do yourself a favor... simply go test a Caravan, an Odyssey or Sienna and see how much better they are without the overengineering, yet MANY More Features as STANDARD!
Have they improved the paints ability to stick to the metal? Or does it just come with a flare to light up the van when it rots out after 1 year. RWD yup its a turd. Good luck MBU!
That car is going to flop. No one will buy a Mercedes Benz van. Its like combining lumberjacks and stereotypical classy folk in a single room, IT JUST DOESNT WORK
nageorgiou2 Come to Europe my friend and you see a bucket load of Mercedes Benz vans Sprinter and Vito (metris) used for construction taxi services camping and etc!!
***** penadela Yes in Europe this will work, but here in the US, Mercedes-Benz is classified as a rich douchebag brand. They don't sell their trucks too well at all because we have Chevy, Chrysler, and Ford for cheaper ones
I like mercs but i am and will always be a Ford fan (fanatic) but infortunaly your "normal" cars are too expensive in my country!!For you to see the new mustang the 5.0 will cost here +100 thousand dollars for that price we buy faster mercs and bimmers!!Because trully i love Ford i have a 2013 Fiesta ecoboost 125hp and 1983 XR3i 105!!I
I just bought a 2019 metris passenger van for my side business. Took the back row out, has a lot of room.

its better for towing than fwd. in a very heavy downpour i found that when towing a load with fwd that i lost traction immediately

I reallly wanted to see the interior - I'm new to minivans
Tunnel Vision Trust me no you don't... it's as basic as a Chevrolet Cobalt
Because to selling point of this van is more cargo capabilities, and not luxury features, like the Honda Odyssey.
258 lb-ft of torque, not bad for a 4 cylinder turbo van.
Thanks mercedes..
you could go with the dodge journey that's optional awd
André -
I was just looking for this van online. There is a Marco Polo version of this van in Europe that is quite cool.
What is the down side of rear wheel drive? And what is the payload exactly.
Will compare this with AWD sienna. Guess there is an AWD version coming. They look so close from the spec sheet.
please tell me where the absorber is in the mercedes-benz vito metrics
Just curious why Mercedes would only give 47" between the walls in a passenger van. It means you cannot put any standard paneling flat on the floor. The fuel filler is also a bit of a challenge for those over 5'10"
I just hauled 20 4x8 sheets of Rock in my 05 Odyssey... Metris is short on a LOT of Standard items.
I want one for my repair business. I currently drive a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan. It's ok. But this would be a huge step up in quality.
Check doug de muros review
No it won't be. Unless it's a diesel, you're deluding yourself.
So where's the V class? Or is this as close as we can get it one here
Tech Defender Metris is the North American V-Class.
Is this a body on frame or a uni-body?
Do you guys know if this will also be offered through Freightliner like the Sprinter? Some commercial operations will not want to pull up to a potential customer's house with that big Mercedes emblem screaming "I'm going to charge you way too much."
This van has a wheezy turbo charged 4 cylinder sewing machine under the hood. I much prefer a silky smooth and quiet V-6.
This is beautiful and we'd be really interested if they'd make a front or four wheel drive version for people who live in the real world. Now to figure out where to be heard with that comment :).

Not the V-class in Europe, the Metriz more look like the Mercedes Vito (w447) here in europe its mostly sold with diesel engine, not petrol
There is no inside view just the driving part and a lot of talking wow best interview
WHY they put regular glass on the passenger mirror is beyond me. [same as driver mirror glass] I ordered a van, but I have to buy the small round convex mirror to stick on the passenger mirror. Mirrors are very tiny for a van capable of no windows on sides/rear. Crazy..........
No diesel? WTF!?
***** Ah, no. My car has the 2.1L diesel and it is fantastic. This van has the same engine in europe.
Krispin Gord Because 90% of the people who buy these cars do not know that diesel is better than petrol.
***** They still make RWD vans in the US?
MB are probable delaying the diesel as they have a new range of diesels on the way. Keep an eye out in early 2017
Very successful in this category
Give this bluetec 4matic.
They should've called it the Voyager. That's a good name for a smallish 4-cylinder van that's advertised as fitting in normal garages.
Test drove one today. Horrible. Total failure. Here is the short view :

I'm ready.
Rear wheel drive? For real? How will that stand up in snow?
What is the other midsized van they mentioned that's going away?
Jon Corra He must be referring to the Ram Cargo Van based on the Dodge Grand Caravan.
Dan Strim Thanks. I thought so, but was not sure.
Yes. He referred to the Ram Cargo Van. But we do not know exactly when it's being discontinued.
The Fast Lane Truck thanks for the info.
Or may be the Savana
Is 2.0 l for this van weak?
So questions not asked it why not luxury mdels targeted for families and whats up with the v-class Marco Polo or similiar?
AMG van!!!!!!
that would be awesome
They need a family version to compete with the Japanese mini vans. This thing would be a nice European alternative.
Need four wheel drive.
i love the concept but it not diesel . if it diesel i will blindly buy it . and it would be awsome if they have a diesel 4 wheels drive
we have it in europe, 4weel drive 190hp
This'll send the other moms running for the hills.
Browningate it's a commercial van not for Mom use
hotel channel
Potato, potato.
Why test drive in the rockies-if not AWD? How well does this car perform in the winter in/around Dunton (where your review comes from). I live in Telluride and am reluctant to purchase a car the is FWD only.
manual transmission?
Why they can't make metris a 550 model and Amy model that looks luxury like a s class or e class
question to the uploder of this video. does the metris have the capability to carry heavy ladders on top of the van. like for contracting type of business. is it capable of supporting ladder racks above the van like American commercial vans. and if so can it carry a sizable load on the racks. please contact me back when you can
I'm confused, I only know two sizes when it comes to vans; minivan and van. They're "mini" for a reason and now we're bring the words mid-size into this?! Idk anymore. So what's the one competitor, Mazda 5? That's a *real* minivan, it's compact. Kia Rondo is already gone too.

The Fast Lane Truck Now I understand, it's a big minivan, lol.
Desu Gun Actually the Kia Rondo is still sold in Canada.
+Desu Gun - no, there are many sizes. This is bigger then the mini-van but not necessary roomier. Its a small big van in every way, more in the negative then positive way.
stay away from it. Ford Transit Connect - the new one - is a much better choice.
+The Fast Lane Truck Basically like the Mercedes version of what the Chevrolet Astro/GM Safari vans were?
They forgot to put the little blue Mercedes badge on the hood ?
Would have been nice to see the van...
What I would like to know is what it looks like under the rear end of the Metris...
Martin Espinoza Pervert.
***** That's what everyone says about people who like minivans
Martin Espinoza I really want to say it's a solid rear axle, but there's a birdie telling me it's IRS.
Weirdo
quadguy112895 I really want that birdie to be right, although I'm interested even with a live axle and leaf springs.
Can it seat up to 10
YO THAT NOSE😨
ill get one if they sell it with diesel and awd.
Need diesel......or it is simply another Van...........
I actually LOVE the OUTSIDE looks of this van. My only hesitation on perhaps purchasing one is the RWD feature and the interior quality. the reason it's intirior is not like most mercedes is becouse they want it to cost less
It looks downright cheap. On top of that, instead of a creamy smooth V-6 it comes with a turbo charged 4 cylinder sewing machine.
its great for the size.. but no diesel nor 4 wheel drive. seriously?
Better get an extended warranty service because maintenance and repairs are going to be just like any MBenz vehicle. The entry price sounds affordable but with options it will be priced on the mid 50s.
What's with the VANS? Wheres the trucks
This is fast lane TRUCKS
5 VANS reviewed in past week on tflt.... I come here to watch truck vids... BOOOOOO!
Did the Mercedes guy say "take it to a Chop Shop" no one would bother with that.
WHY NOT V CLASS
Jules Verne and Kepler Westfalia please!!!
I liked the idea of driving a Benz van at this reasonable price point. But it looks like a rounded minivan, meaning the interior space isn't square enough - that's a waste. And it might be still a bit too large to street park. This category is all about utility, guys!
OMFG! 3 F-ing Van reviews in a row, seriously!!! Dudes hand in your man cards 😡

Its just a RWD minivan with a German accent...
So... No manual? *smashes phone, and stomps skateboard*
Hmm, Interesting
Have they improved the paints ability to stick to the metal? Or does it just come with a flare to light up the van when it rots out after 1 year. RWD yup its a turd. Good luck MBU!
Turbo = Premium Fuel. This should have only been offered with a Diesel.
Did u watch the video??? Clearly states regular fuel is used not premium
occckid123 95 Octane & NO ETHANOL is ideal for Turbo engines. I don't care what BS the manufacture puts in the owners manual.
Ivan Vojt lol... 95 octane? Don't sell that here...
occckid123 I know, would be nice if it was. I wouldn't miss 87, 89, 91 octane.
Mercedes Vito in Europe, in USA Metris.
2540 N Cleveland Ave.
Roseville, MN 55113
it is a useless front-wheel drive version of the sprinter
Tell ya what, give me one with a wheelchair lift and I'll test it out
What did I learn from you?
red army vs wehrmacht
Und who is this guy Andre Smirnov? Even FLT doesn't think this is worth backing with one of the regular FLT dudes from good ol' USA.....
diesel please
At this price all they're giving is a 4 cylinder sewing machine engine? Pass. Give me a Honda Odyssey with a creamy smooth and quiet V-6 any time.
Put a diesel instead
oh amarican with russian roots.
We need diesel engine ! Not freaking gas on a van .
I like mercs but i am and will always be a Ford fan (fanatic) but infortunaly your "normal" cars are too expensive in my country!!For you to see the new mustang the 5.0 will cost here +100 thousand dollars for that price we buy faster mercs and bimmers!!Because trully i love Ford i have a 2013 Fiesta ecoboost 125hp and 1983 XR3i 105!!I
nageorgiou2 its time for the US to get rid of those crappy us brands commerical vehicles. this is something else
eggbirdtherooster We have Fiat's vans for that and even then the basic US vehicles are fine
Looks like toyota
As European, I would advice you to stay away from all these hi-tech hi-dollar European rolling piles of crap.
Looks like toyota
