I can't imagine the running costs for this Metris are lower than any of its competition. Turbocharged engine. Mercedes repair costs. Preference for premium fuel. I suspect it's really not a smart buy in the long run.
The only reviewer who will tell you this is a great van. Start with the fact that in an 05 Odyssey I can haul over 20 sheet of Rock. Can't even haul 1 in a Metris since the with in the "Cargo" area is only 47" wide.
I thought the price seemed a little high but checked and that is only 1-2k higher than the Ford Transit Connect and Ram Promaster City.

This is a way better choice than all the caravan a lot of people buy for this purpose
My Dodge Grand Caravan better. Why? Becouse Caravan has a sliding door just behind my driver seat. No walk around van to open right sliding door to pickup my tool box.

Why you guys didn't make a cargo with left sliding door? Worker must open door behind driver door, pickup a tool box and walk to customer. I don't like walk around van to open right sliding door. Speshial in Seattle area with 7 month of rain .
probably to make it easier to access the door when you are parked curbside on a street.
A very interesting view of a very boring truck! I have used their Sprinter and Vito models in the past and was very pleased. For the added price you get a lot of quality and realiability. I am looking forward to try out a Metris in the future. Especially to see, where the differences to the Vito are
It's a work van... Its not going to be some exciting luxury van, that's not its purpose.
I know that. It was meant as a compliment to the guys at FLT and in no way degrading Merdedes working vans. The model shown looks plain, but probably is an effective tool that does the job very well

You can add the Metris 260 hinges to the worker van if needed.
Most Minivan doors open by Keyfob elimating the need for Barn Doors.

Cargo dividers, shelving or cargo management equipment, and graphics are usually custom upfits at the time of sale. You might find a handful of commercial vans on dealer lots, but most are sold on a build-to-order basis. (Upfitting is a big business. You should see the salt mines in Kansas City where the upfitters finish out Transits and F150s.)

I don't think that you can order a van without a bulkhead in Europe. We have a lot of built to order too but at the same time you can buy a pretty standard van with some goodies on it at a dealer (the dealer order vans that they think that the customer want). Some dealers even order fully spec vans and then sell them to a potential customer.
***** You will find some dealers that specialize in commercial sales that will stock some fairly standard vans to sell to tradesmen and small businesses, but the majority of the volume is custom ordered.
The dealers are trying both to meet the customers needs and make money so they will usually use both the factory up-fitters and local/regional companies to outfit the vans (and trucks as well) however the customer needs it to be fitted out. The company I work for has quite a few trucks and vans in service and even though we buy them one or two at a time I can't recall any time in the last decade that we have bought anything off the lot. They have all been ordered to our specifications.

What is Mercedes thinking selling a gas can? The whole reason why people buy sprinter vans is because they are diesel.
fuel emission regulations are tough for manufacturers
24 MPG Combined, yeah empty running Premium Fuel with a single 150 Lb. driver. Mercedes and "reliability" oh that's a good one. Once you throw some weight in this you will want that 2.1L Diesel.
I doubt it. What people really like about turbo diesels is really the turbo, not the diesel. This thing will have plenty of torque and good gearing. It should perform very well - equal to a 350 V8/4 speed combo from years ago. A bit less power but better gearing. And it will burn far less gas (that is what they meant by "costs"). It will run fine on 87 octane.
Any chance of testing a stick-shift Cummins Ram 3500?
I just don't understand a 2 liter 4 cylinder turbocharged engine that requires 91 octane in this application. Maybe it gets marginally better fuel mileage than a comparable V6, but by the time you pay, in my area about 80-90 cents more a gallon for 93 octane (91 is rare here) it probably more or less evens out, and that's ignoring the long term reliability and expense of a turbocharged VS naturally aspirated engine.
Totally agree. I’ve taken some losses with my 3.5tt transit and I’ve had it. Looking at one of these invokes the same feeling. Maybe I just deal with a pickup again and enjoy a v8
it should have five doors instead of four doors. the ram ProMaster City has sliding door on the passenger side and on the driver side. has 8 speeds and you don't have to put 91 octane in has plenty of power. but the Mercedes does look nice

i really want to like this but the ford dealership will sell you a transit for like 22k. I can see paying the extra money if you have less experienced drivers who are intimidated by a full size truck or if you absolutely do not need that much space and would prefer a better handling vehicle that is easier to park. I really like the idea of a RWD minivan with a 7 speed tranny but man does it cost so damn much that it is hard to rationalize buying one financially.

Just carry a couple of patio stones back there and get some legit winter tires to fix that. There goes your fuel economy, but at least you'll live to complain about it :D

How did it drive? Specs on acceleration? How did it maneuver with a trailer in tow? Etc., etc....
You can always rely on the manufacturer itself to do the WORST review of a car/truck. I don't understand why they do it, or what on earth makes them believe that anyone buys/likes the "corporate style"...

They offer this van in Europe with AWD plus multiple engines to choose from. Also camping version with pop up campers and kitchens.

Yup. Cargo area dimensions are 8' long from back doors to seats and 48" between wheel wells. I've had mine for my cargo delivery business and it's a beast..!

91 octane is recommended. As you can see under it, it says (87 minimum). You can put the cheaper octane.
Yes, this is true. As you said, 91 is recommended, which means that it is not meant to always run on 87. While you can occasionally fill up with 87, it will decrease the power and fuel economy. In the long run, routinely using 87 will possibly even damage the turbo and possibly the entire engine.
What...? The turbo doesn't give a rat's ass what octane is being injected into the motor.
Besides, almost all modern ECUs can detect pinging/detonation and simply decrease timing or boost in order to keep the motor safe.
Will 87 decrease power? Yes, almost without a doubt. Will it decrease economy? That's a harder question to answer and would have more to do with the volumetric efficiency being slightly lower.

Lame... i like how the oroginal commercial says that the van can haul "over 60 sheets of drywall" a 1/2 thick drywall weights 52lb per sheet and a 5/8 thick weights 77lb per sheet so do the math and that is BS. If anyone is lying about things that anyone can calculate then imagine what crap its built out of that no average person knows about.. crap crap and CRAP... price dropped cuz its CRAP..any van made today has doors that fold out so saying that is like making a statement that a car comes with AC.. lameeeeee..u expect the doors to fold on a work van...

It's a little sad when Ram is using the Pro Master now which is a Fiat Van and they made the Sprinter. Fiat should just have Ram/Chrysler make the vans, they do a much better job.

100k miles and any mercedes van is done especiallu the ones brough in to USA. have friends who made mistakes buying them..when the warranty ended the van broke...buy a ford transit connect or a transit and u wont have to pay AAA membership fees..
thats why Sprinters with TDI engines have a great resale value even with 300K miles...they go to 500K
