Two weeks ago someone messaged me from a far away town that said, “I’m surprised you let employees smoke in your trucks..” well I don’t. But I knew who it was. They no longer drive my trucks.
My policy in my equipment is if they want to smoke in the equipment they run then they personally will pay for an ozone treatment 2x per year. The official policy is no smoking however that is our gentlemen’s agreement and it has solved the issue.
As others have stated, i had a no smoking policy. No smoking in our within 20' of the truck (of they were stopped picking up materials) and no smoking on any properties. One warning. Termination after that

I asked him several times to stop and I could still catch him. They are not a star or key employee if they don't respect you enough to listen to a simple no smoking policy. If they have that mentality that they do so much for you they can smoke, I wonder what other things they feel is an exception to the rule. Once I let go of the guy that was constantly smoking on job sites and in the truck I feel happier in business.

You ever look into a mini loader like a mt 100 I feel way more comfortable leaving the guys with one of them compared to a bigger excavator or skid
