    This is the new Toyota Fortuner in the GX trim in Feverish Red. In this video, I do a walk around of the interior, exterior and I also do a road test to answer the question "Is the Fortuner worth buying?". This vehicle surprised me and had I spent more time in a Fortuner before purchasing a Prado, I would have bought the Fortuner. It is a tough, reliable, practical and no frills family tank that can handle everything that families and the environment demands of it. A true beast and leader in the class.

    Here is a list of the equipment I use:

    Good review! You have covered almost all the positive reasons for choosing and having a Fortuner. I have seen almost all major car reviewers criticise the Fortuner in terms of ride comfort and fancy tech, but at the same time also stating that it is off-road capable. Your review is what people need to see. And the viewers, they need to test the Fortuner and then decide rather than go with the reviews of these major car reviewers. I come from a 2WD (FWD) Nissan X-Trail ST. I test drove both the Toyota Prado Kakadu (VX Limited) and the Fortuner Crusade (Limited). Took them both through shopping mall car parks, daily routes, my driveway and garage and took on every pothole I found on the road (sometimes there is nothing much you can do to avoid them 😁). What other car reviewers state as Fortuner having a stiff ride, for me it’s the feel of the road which helps me better control my car. The suspension is not bad or unbearable. I got my family to join me during the test drive and they had no issues. There are many practical and financial reasons why I choose the Fortuner Limited over the Prado GX and VX. You have covered most of them in your review. People need to decide the very reason they want a proper off-road capable 4WD wagon.

    Looking forward to this love mine after 8000km. Deliberately bought a white GX. Wanted 17" wheels and manual heater. Kept it simple 👍 Very pleased. I ripped the 3rd row of seats first day home, dashmat, extra usb in front and changed internal and reverse lights to stedi led. Spot on Mark roof ventilation is great. Rear camera works fine for hitching up, I use it all the time no problems.

    Much awaited video from you.
    Currently we are owning 2007 3 door yaris. I did test drive Fortuner in 2022 September and booked it right away. There is no turbo lage I would say. 6 speed touque converter do it's job and shits so smoothy.
    Those who are lookin for buy this one I would say (if you are tight on budget go for GXL) Otherwise the top of the range crusade worth buying. As he mentioned in the video if your family members/friends are not taller enough you will find difficult to shut the tailgate. Top of the range comes with power tailgate which is very handy but it takes time to shut. Also co driver seats is power adjustable which serves good seat heights for various drivers.
    After booking we were but confused between GXL Prado and Fortuner crusade.
    Some of the deal breaker for me with Prado👎
    Fuel efficiency and wide opening tailgate.
    And it's feels more quicker than Prado.
    To conclude Prado is PRADO.

    I have the 4x4 VX which is the top of the Fortuner range available in South Africa. Built at the Toyota factory in Durban. Would have preferred the rear-wheel drive VX but couldn’t get one at the time I purchased. Have however used 4 wheel drive and low range. 4 wheel drive on dirt / rutted roads in game reserves made a significant and positive difference.
    Power, performance and economy are good but would like the 165kw / 550 nm upgrade available on the Hilux. Even though just software changes, Toyota SA does not offer as an option or upgrade on either the Fortuner or Prado. Can have done by specialist tuners but then warranty, service plan is voided.
    First thing I did was to have those horrible fold-up 3rd row seats removed. Makes a huge difference to rear cargo space, provided you are happy with a 5 seater.
    The powered boot lid can be opened or closed via button on lid as well as the smart key.
    Where to put the phone when plugged into carplay is a valid criticism. But because I have the reach of the steering wheel fully extended, there is space below the dash that I use. Also have one of those right angled USB’s to plug into phone so plug is not a problem.
    My biggest gripe is the heavy and vague steering.

    • @NorthOz

      Hi Keith. Great points. Interesting to hear the different models in other parts of the world. I’ll give your phone trick a go. Good call the seats and the 4H is definitely a game changer when it comes to loose surfaces. I wouldn’t have a vehicle without it 👍

    • @NorthOz
      @NorthOz  Год назад +1

      Congrats! Getting a new car is an awesome achievement and you will love your tuna! Regarding the work on vehicles, I can only recommend tableland 4wd. Their work on my Rogue build was clean and they were careful. I have taken it to a shop in cairns and while their services were reasonably priced, the workmanship was rushed and I wasn’t happy with the product. The 12v system from that shop never ran right and I had no idea where the fuse block was as nothing was explained regarding the work done. They also put solder all over the place. I would use table as 4wd again but in all honesty, I would do the 12v and mods yourself. I’m happy to help with advice where I can. I run an EcoFlow delta battery which gives me plenty of 12v and I don’t need a complicated system installed by someone who may or may not do a good job. I’m sure there are exceptional workshops in cairns, I have yet to find one. For servicing, I have no issues with John Cole and Midas are exceptional here in cairns but they don’t offer fitouts and installs

    • @NorthOz
      @NorthOz  Год назад +1

      Great points. The rear passenger area feels like an after thought in my opinion. The seats are designed very well and there isn’t much room to get in behind the 2nd row of seats. It’s good enough but definitely could’ve been engineered better like the system in the Prado

    • @NorthOz

      Good question. Yes, I believe the fortuner is more responsive at the cost of being a bit less comfortable. I wouldn’t say it’s significantly quicker but I’d take the fortuner into town every day over the Prado. It’s smaller, more responsive, more stable and easier to manoeuvre than the Prado

    Your Prado 150 must not have had KDSS that helps body roll on the road and disconnects the sway bars off road. As far as price, I'd much rather have a used Prado 150 with KDSS, the extra room, the softer ride, and proven ability, than the harsher ride and smaller interior of the Fortuner.

    • @NorthOz
      @NorthOz  6 месяцев назад

      Hi mate, the price of aftermarket Prado’s have skyrocketed in the last 2 years which means the buyer would be looking at a 10 year old Prado for around the price of a new base model fortuner. In that case, I’d still go with the fortuner. Regarding the KDSS, I had the GXL model of Prado which was middle of the range and the KDSS only came with the $95k model vehicle and at that point I’d rather get the 200 series which has that as factory for another $15k. I never saw the point of the KDSS Prado due to it costing the same as the base model 200 series. It’s probably an unpopular opinion but for nearly $100k I think there are better options on the market especially in 2024

    Fortuner is intended for developing countries / emerging markets.
    Imho, it feels out of place in a developed country like Australia.

      Ironically, speaking to some subscribers from some of the developing markets, they don’t get this base model and their standard spec has way more features than this. Weird huh?

    Good info thanks. Would be an even better video if you filmed the car more and less of yourself.

    The worst SUV for three medium sized adults sitting in the back seats. Door side passengers bump their heads against the handle above the doors and need to lean their heads towards the middle ending up with stiff necks. I would of thought the journalists would find this issue

      Yeah not heaps of room back there. The ladder chassis makes you sit higher. You want a prado for more height for sure

    All other reviews say the fortuner is the worst out there

      I haven’t a single fortuner owner with a bad thing to say about it. My brother included. I had one for a month as a rental and I would get one of these or a prado if I had the extra the $$ to spend. Tough as nails
