    For those who watched this review and have not yet owned a Fortuner, I want to share some important info on the 3rd row seats.
    1)There are no fancy cup holders, but there are travelmug/bottle hoders on each side, sunk into the side panels.
    2) To let the seats down, there is no need to struggle with the hook. There is a velcro strip that must be released first as this removes the tension on the hook.
    3) The seats can be easily removed if you need more space and need 5 or fewer seats.

    Drove the 2.4 4x2 yesterday... I'm impressed... Hard day of driving.. Hot south african sun... Some heavy offroading ..fully loaded with people and stuff... Highway driving.. Sometimes hitting 170km/h 👀... Maintained 9l/100km..gave it back with a half tank left 😂😂 super smooth on the highway... It's fast enough.. It's quiet too..... It's perfect.... They just steal them alot here😭😭😭

    Back when the first generation of Fortuners was launched, they had a 4.0L v6 engine and Toyota considered the Everest as it's competitor. Now the Everest has a similar engine to that of the old Fortuner and they decide to go for the Prado. If we're going to compare engine sizes the Everest Platinum still has the bigger engine than that of the Prado. IMO the Everest is still a competitor of the Fortuner because they are both based on the Hilux and Ranger bakkies, which are competitors.

  • @jfa849
    @jfa849 5 месяцев назад +1

    I've spent a bit of time with one of these. It felt like a car where the sub-systems were all designed in isolation and there was minimal time spent harmonising the final product. The adaptive cruise control will sometimes use the gearbox to slow down, other times the brakes. The engine and gearbox just don't seem gel. The bakkie underpinnings are unmistakable.
    A little more time spent harmonising everything could make this a lot better.

    A colleague who was in the market for a medium-large SUV, compared 5 different brands except for the Fortuner, where he compared all the specs (on paper); test-drove them through most conditions, he eventually test-drove the Fortuner and after a short drive around the block returned to the dealership and signed the deal! Admittedly he confessed that the Fortuner was average in ALL the comparisons against the competition except for its bulletproof reliability, longevity, and book value! How on earth do other brands compete with that?

    • @luzukompohla1835
      @luzukompohla1835 11 месяцев назад +4

      why did he need to test drive a car to test "bulletproof reliability" ? he knew all that he probably wanted to try something new but decided to stick with the tried and tested. Its definitely not a car that wins you over through a test drive,looks or performance. People who buy these cars - Hilux, Fortuner, Prado, Cruiser do it because the reliability has been established

  • @simmpessor5541
    @simmpessor5541 Год назад +21

    The rear seat setup makes a lot of sense to me. The folded seats protects my rear windows from whatever is loaded while giving a lot of floor space.

    • @wadesolomon2484
      @wadesolomon2484 Год назад +2

      I have to disagree. Having lived with both this setup and a setup that folds into the floor, the floor setup is incredibly more practical. You've got more underfloor storage behind the seats, better leg room, more packing space and better rear view visibility. This is sadly just cost cutting measures that Toyota seems to be persisting with.
      Another point to think about is that should you choose to fold the second row down in other cars, unlike the Fortuner seats that fold forward, you have a truly flat load floor that extends right up to the front seats.

      . Let me put it this way. Toyota made some realy great vehicles as far as relighblilaty is concered. For year it was a dependeble, yet a bit blunt in comparison to the competition. Unfortunately the indestructible depenability and quality took a backseat in the last 20 years. One can only look at class action suites, a specialy the Hilux/Fortuner, and the proberly the biggest embarisment of the very first Toyota EV. Toyotas reluctance to take responsibility or rectify issues with vehicles from customers. Simmelar or worse probleams hit the competition as well, but they have solved the issues. They still are the biggest carmaker, but the Toyota name has been tarnish. The competition has moved ahead. I suspect not sure, if the supply line issues is the culprit or just cost cutting is to blame. Another trend can be seen when new far more modern vehicles from compeditors is launched , up goes the price on existing Toyota models, to match or exceed the new competition prices. Now as a consumer, is see this as greed. If Toyotas are so good, why does it need more frequent servicing intervals than it's compeditors. Sorry Toyota, we allso moved on. The biggest threat is comming, as mutch as i hate to say it, from China, and that will effect all establiched car makers. Non can match their prices. Even if the their priducts is not up there with the rest, but effort is being made, as can be seen with model replacements. Affordability is what they bring. The value for money thing for vehicles is just a sales propaganda. Vehicles is a consumers item. It acumulates cost the day you buy it, and never stops, untill you get rid of it. It looses it value year after year. The worst investment you can ever make. Unless you buy it, store it for 30 years, till it becomes a classic low milage vehicle, in witch case it will still cost you a lot in upkeeping.

    It definately is a face - down grade & and lost the STRONG Fortuner look and feel and now simply looks cheap & like a slightly raised Toy Rush - that small tiny under powered up right thin tilting over budget 7 seater... 😞
    Don't like it at all - looks cheap & like a Rush... 😏👎👀

      Back in their haste to get to the market before the Everest. They screwed up badly. No lipstick on a pig will make it good. Side flipup third row seats????.Ride quality, handeling, dynamics, all way behind. Even the Pajero sport feels better overall. Driven both for 2 years. Old Everest beats all hands down.

    P.s : your statement regarding the re-sell value,
    Yes .. one does get a better trade in , *IF* it never been "jacked or stolen "
    Don't forget, or be fooled ... insurance on Toyota's is almost double then any other brand 🤔
    And then ... the top concern!!
    How comfortable would one feel , parking your car at a shopping center and pondering if it's going to be there when you return!
    The STRESS of owning a Toyota !

      Owned 3 Toyota's. Never had any concern about it being stolen. Sold all my Toyota's for more than I bought them for. They are extremely reliable. Timeless in design. Durable. You can easily do 500,000 km in a Toyota - not many other manufacturers can say the same.
      It also depends on where your insurance is.

    Ranger and Everest both of them already coming up with Engine blown and oil pipe splitting in the Australian market... DMW in Australia reported they had to replace the motor just after 20,000K... Which is why people still go to Toyota. As far as Ford - They can compare themself to Rolls Roys. It's their choice. End of the day customer is the king. They decide. In my organization we tried ford and had too many issues so they decided not to buy ford anymore.

    I must say the fortuner is a bit expensive with minimal technology. This is the point of Toyota. Timeless technology that’s going to last and not break down for the next 20 years but it’s BASIC at best. And that’s why I think it’s a bit overpriced. Last point, the 3rd row seat I wish you could get rid of completely and substitute it with a nice subwoofer speaker at the back or….. 😏 an air pump. Does come in handy at times when you want to clean your interior 😂
