    I also own an Audioscape LA2A and it's stellar. I have lots of studio experience having worked in the New York Studio in the 80's and having mixed many records in my time. I had an Universal Audio LA2A and in search for my second LA2A, I came across a used one and I bought it. When comparing the two, the Audioscape sounded punchier and fuller than the UA model by far! It was also quieter and more stable in the sense that when I powered it up later to do a few punches on a vocal track the tonal accuracy was in the pocket and no noticeable differences were heard in the punches of the track! Try that with a UA and you will be tweaking until you're close to the original sound. My unit came with a Teletronix decal instead of Audioscape. Folks, don't waste your money on UA. Try an Audioscape, and you will never look back. BTW, I sold my UA unit since working with the Audioscape.

    The Opto was my AudioScape entry drug. Then I bought another to have the pair, then a pair of 76A comps, then the G-Comp, then the V-Comp. Those guys make some amazing gear. The V-Comp (STA-level) is my favorite piece of gear in my rack. It's gives vocals TONS of character that I can't get from anything else.

    • @MixingMusicAnalog

      @@questionableidentity1 the 76/Opto combo is classic for a reason but the V-Comp is the one I'd keep if I could only keep one. It imparts something on vocals that makes my ears perk up.

    Another happy customer, here. This mirrors my experience with Audioscape as well as some of my friends… there is nothing else like them out there that I’m aware of. Their stuff has no weird tone build-ups or other hang ups like those I hear in W____ and S____ or even U______ A_______. Audioscape are making super boutique hand made gear that sounds and behaves beautifully for an absolute steal. Had a question about my Pultec and Chris responded incredibly quickly and with warm professionalism. Tracking through not budget, but incredible hardware is now within range for musicians. Mixing tracks recorded through great gear like is such a damn pleasure; that doesn’t get enough mention. Feels effortless. I can’t believe my damn Audioscape Pultec… it’s like cheating.

    Thank you so much for your useful review. I had a new LA-2A in my studio and it seemed to have a little more light syrup over the mix in comparison to the sound you getting on the acoustic with the Audio Scape which is a tad cleaner. But the difference is small. I doubt anyone could hear a difference without A/B them back and forth after matching the volume between the two.

    I found Audio Scape last year and fallen in love with them as well. So far I have their SSL style bus compressor and a pair of their PEQ's and they are outstanding in quality. Next will be an 1176 style compressor....

    Nice review, though my understanding is the default setting for the HF knob is fully clockwise position. Been really happy with mine and using the HF control makes it more versatile and can really help focus a track in the mix.

    Sounds like a good La2a clone. It’s interesting in a hybrid situation how to go about what additional hardware is needed. I don’t have an SSL desk but some great preamps for tracking and a few compressors. My favorite that I own is this Buzz Audio SOC.1 optical compressor. Excellent company and very versatile for an opto. I’m thinking that having a handful of analog boxes that cover a lot of ground and can be used for tracking, mixing and mastering is a good way to look at it because between the UAD plugins and so many other great ones, it’s really the analog summing and depth that is really important. I’m definitely gonna be looking for a couple of choice compressors, and a mastering eq that can all be used dual mono for single track treatment and bus treatment. Also guitar pedals being a guitar player, some of them are just as good as some of these high end pieces of pro audio gear so thats also in my hybrid plan, to put together a rack of my best most useful pedals in a mixing situation.

    • @MixingMusicAnalog
      @MixingMusicAnalog  3 года назад +2

      You have a good plan! Having a limited but good high quality pieces of out-board was my goal as well. Between that in my U/A plugins I have all I need to turn out great mixes. Limitations are a good thing when working hybrid!

    • @ericsami2277
      @ericsami2277 2 года назад

      @@MixingMusicAnalog thanks! Yeah limitations are good with Hybrid. I definitely wanna get a few more pieces of outboard and go crazy with the patchbays. Goal is to be able to track with certain compressors and eqs and also have them normalled in pro tools so I can just pull them up as Hardware Inserts. That would be nice.

    Great Video - Thanks for all the effort you put into it. Wanted to ask because I know you've used the Warm Audio 2a .I have the WA 2A in my tracking chain after the UA 1176ln. When I track vocals I aim for about 3-5db of compression from the WA 2a. Do you think I would notice a difference if I replaced the unit with the Audioscape version. Many Thanks
