I have their Opto Comp (LA-2A clone). It took me three weeks to buy it because every time I’d be waiting at 8pm, they would sell out in a minute. Really love their units! Cant wait to get the 76A
I don't know why it took me so long to discover their gear. I'm sure that at some point, I'll likely buy one of everything, or at least that would be my goal.
I recognize those tracks. Chris Yetter is the guy behind the Audio Scapes stuff as I recall and he is a stand up guy. He helped me suss out an issue with a Peavey VC/L-2 tube compressor that was giving me issues with different compression levels with both channels set the same. I think I bought an EL panel from him to replace on one side to get the unit closer between channels. He went out of his way to help me out which he didn't have to do. I stumbled across your channel a month or so back and dig it. Your setup is much like mine. Keep up the good content.
This video helped me find this compressor. I ended up getting a pair, and I love them. I didn’t intend on using the stereo linking necessarily but I tested it in my RND 10 space rack and it worked!
Sounds great. I've been back and forth on grabbing some. I already have a pair of JLM LA500's which is supposed to be a fatter sounding LA3A. Might have to a/b them.
Though its hard to judge from a video, to answer the question posed @ 14:00, to my ears the V3A sounds more like a modern UA LA-3A re-issue than an older UREI. That said, I really like the UA re-issues, but I find them, like this compressor, to be more "hi-fi". The 3 UREIs I use regularly are more rounded off in the top, have a distinct mid push and are dirtier. I assume a big part of all that is components that have drifted over the decades, but that tone plays a big factor in why I patch one in (need a vocal to cut over distorted guitars...done!). Both great tools and I suppose it being 1:1 is only important to those looking to get what they get out of a UREI for a fraction of the price.
I have this unit. It’s something else. The frequency knob is essential. The tone is nothing short of unique. I’m guessing it’s what an LA-3A is. Or was. I’ve tried a ton but f gear for my particular purposes. And this is on the short list. The feq control is crucial and unique. Could use in vocals / bad but the distortion characteristic is this kind of “ripping” sound versus a “grinding” or “edge fuzz” … coronal distortion etc …
Berry, are you sure you have only been doing this for 3 or 4 months? seems like I've been watching your channel for years now lol. Just got my pair of V3As in today( been coveting them since the first time I saw this). putting them through their paces now and had to revisit your vid for a tutorial. Keep up the good work my man!!
@@BarryJohns Yeah, music is too much of a passion for me to stop. In the mean time I'm squeezing everything I can from my plugins and getting very good results.
Barry I’m a r&b gospel singer and looking to get into 500 how do you think the great River pre N500 and the Audioscape V3 would sound for vocals any advice on eq. Do AS make Neve style compressor? Thx
That's awesome. I want this one but I am scared if I buy a 500 series rack - i'll end up broke cause my OCD will force me to fill all the spaces :P I have a Audioscape LA-2A and man, I am right there with you when you say you LOVE it.

I've heard nothing but good things about him as a person.

For me, the LA3A has been my go to for guitars. Not only guitars, but wow it does some magic on them - especially acoustics.
It creates energy in the tracks so well.
This is on my list. But always sold out. Great Video.
Persistence, good things come to those who are patient.....
I like this!!! Whoever the singer is is really nice. I was digging them but it sounded like Barry.
Not me, not enough AutoTune for that....

If you do get one, let me now how you think they compare.
There is another one called serpent chimera but its more expensive, never heard it though
Love this video, helped me decide to go for it. Got lucky this past Monday. Thanks Barry 😊 Subscribed.

Great review and beautiful product will try it. You should take a look at the Tegeler products also very high quality.
Barry has the golden pipes. Sounds good

My neighbor has a lot of their gear and I just ordered this for my 500 rack.
sounds a little brighter on some sources, which I like. Been trying to decide this or the golden age 3a with replaced opto cell and output transformer
Audio-Scape is on a whole different level than Golden Age. Nothing wrong with Golden Age.

Great video !! This compressor sounds nice on everything
I love how big it makes everything.
Great review as usual
What are your thoughts on their V1290 Pre?
Dam, I wish I could try this compressor. Someday I'll be able to afford things like this.
Hang in there, keep at it, all things in time.....

They make a Duo 500 Series rack to help you curb the addiction.....You'll eventually sell it and buy a bigger one though, totally addictive....
@@BarryJohns who makes dual slots? I seen a uk company "TAC" aka "total audio control" makes a few racks. The designer is reputable who designed amek.
newbie questions, how is it for tracking. do you recommend pairing this 1073 type clone pre.
I do track with it, but lightly as I want flexibility when mixing.
