This was a really good comparison . You never did a bluey vs audioscape comparison right? I tried searching for it . You think the bluey is even brighter or just more saturated? Btw you remember what mic was used for vocals? I’m trying to decide for a vocal chain . A is brightest but also sounds bigger than the F to me . You know what mix I love the vocals on? Meant to live by switchfoot. I guess I’d go for an A on that track , though I am looking at a 251 type microphone , so that may be too bright . I also feel like a distressor can kind of do an 76a type of grit but be a lil darker and fuller . I need a great chain to mix in with big electric guitars
Thanks Colt. I am a fan of your channel as well. :) I actually was going to reach out to you regarding the Mac Studio, but I know you must be crazy busy!
Hey guys! I love the new intro. ;) Thanks for reviewing those units. It's nice to hear about stuff made from lesser known companies for a change. And, they sound great!
Thank you to both of you for the very helpful comments. I have two 1176A's with stereo-link that I built (Hairball Audio) and use them primarily on bass and acoustic guitar, and like them very much. I was never able to do a side-to-side comparison with the D and F, so this is great, even though I know each brand and build will have it's own unique F.E.T. curve and transformer sonic characteristics. I have read that the 1176A tends to be noisier than later iterations, due to earlier circuit design, but haven't felt it is very noticeable with my units unless I really need to crank up the make-up gain to a high level for settings that I would not commonly use. I wonder how the s/n compares between the A, D and F from AudioScape, even subjectively? I may be interested in adding a D or F sometime in the future.
I have the 76D. I find it aggressively cool. For vocals, I use the meter to let me know how much and where to dial in the amount of input. The 1176 has a “fixed” threshold. Therefore, you raise the input until you hit the desired amount of compression on the meter. For vocals I try not to hit above -5 dB of compression. On the 76D that happens very quickly… I mean… it is so aggressive that I barely hit the input before I reach -5 dB. Then I adjust the output to send the appropriate amount of compressed signal. If I am belting a loud vocal, it will occasionally bump it to -7 dB. That’s ok, but you will feel those transformers working. As you mentioned, it is about how it causes the vocals or instrument to sit in the mix. That’s where it earns its money… It brings every nuance of the vocals to the front of the mix. Great video! Thanks for the great comparison! AudioScape makes great gear. The AudioScape version of the LA2A is on the radar! 👍
Hi Dave’s I’ve purchased a few peace’s from audioscape Two EQP-A and V-Comp+ Which I love also I have some German Tegeler audio And recently purchased Stam audio version of the SA-LA-23A
@@MixingMusicAnalog I love audio scape although I don’t on any of the 1176 models thank you for doing the review you should reach out to Joshua at stam audio I think your channel would make a good place to review his products they are made in a similar way artisan small batches and don’t believe the press although They had problems in the beginning on delivery I personally have never had any problems thanks again for doing the review I find both your channels very informative thanks Dave
@@MixingMusicAnalogAbsolutely, thank you. I really love your videos and appreciate all the work you put in. They are really helpful and informative. I just saw the bluey in the rack and would love to hear your opinion on it. Thanks again!
What is Dave’s youtube channel? I can’t seem to find it. Love the videos. I’d like to see the SSL ultra violet 500 series review/demo, as well as more 500 series gear
The F seems to be the best option, middle ground compressor that could potentially be used on everything. If one was to only buy one compressor, that would be the best choice in my opinion.
That’s true. Also, the F is the cleanest. The A saturates very quickly. The revision F was one of the first made for this exact reason with different parts. Revision F has the least amount of harmonic distortion of all the revision.
Every unit has its mission, sounds good. I would like to know how much noise there is when passing kicks or snares trough. How much nonise is there in the "gaps". I don't know if my UA 1176 is borken or if this is just the behaviour of these units. Been reading in forums for days.
Thanks so much for make this video!! If you decide to do another listening to bass, kick, etc., it would also be cool to turn off the gain reduction and listen purely to the "box tone" :)
Halfway thru the vid but i have to say to my ears the blue stripe has the best overall sound and transietn response. I like the blackface and black stripe but the blue stripe just sounds best to me. Great video so far!

Great description on how to use this compressor. Glad you are loving it!!
Excellent! Just pure Excellence! Your videos are always so helpful and honest !
I appreciate that! Thanks so much for your support!
The mid to low end sounds perfect on D…but F does have a great mix of good mids and highs
Thanks for watching Chris!
I am wanting to pick up a 76D to go alongside a UAD LA-610 MK2. I think that’d be a stellar combo to run into a UAD Apollo.
That would be a great combo for sure!!
Hi Dave’s
I’ve purchased a few peace’s from audioscape
Two EQP-A and V-Comp+
Which I love also I have some German Tegeler audio And recently purchased Stam audio version of the SA-LA-23A
I think you guys would love The versatility of this piece of equipment if you get a chance to review it I think you would love it
LA-2A
I have not used anything by STAM Audio but I have heard great things about them

I hear they take many months to ship product. I think they build in Chile correct? I am not interested in waiting 6 months to get a product...LOL
I would have loved to hear that Bluey in the mix.
That was not the point of this video, that why you did not see it.
@@MixingMusicAnalogAbsolutely, thank you. I really love your videos and appreciate all the work you put in. They are really helpful and informative. I just saw the bluey in the rack and would love to hear your opinion on it. Thanks again!

Good job on the new intro, sounds and looks great
Thanks!
I just purchased a pair of black lion audio seventeens. would love to see you do a review on these.
I dont own them, sorry.
Ditto on DavidSJ's summary take, I couldn't have said it better: "There are three levels of bright to dark."
Three flavors of ice cream

He does not have an active channel. He occasionally creates content for this channel
You never reviewed the Bluey :(
No, never did it, sorry

I was really surprised that the F is my favorite and I use it all the time
@@MixingMusicAnalog yep, I would definitely buy that one first!

The audioscape units are dead quiet. No noise what so ever
@@MixingMusicAnalog if you increase the output to the max there is no hiss at all? Can't believe that on a 1176

maybe at one point. I have so many other gear demos to do but I'll consider doing a 2nd video on these 3 compressors1
@@MixingMusicAnalog Sounds good!
Love your video. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Nice work brothers. I’m kinda getting homesick, when does the MME door open back up?
Everyone that leaves and thin k there is something else out there better......they always come back! Welcome back!
The audioscape f series sounded prime on vocals
I love it on male vocals for sure. I am looking forward to trying it on female vocals soon!
D is the smoothest. Blue stripe is brighter. F is pretty balanced, like a middle ground between the three.
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
How would you compare the Wess audio mimas to these?
I dont have the Mimas so I am not sure.
@@MixingMusicAnalog Just got it in and think it sounds awesome but am not sure if it would be worth getting something different instead?
Great vid
Thanks vey much!!
I'm just glad you didn't include the outtakes... 😂
What outtakes? Lol
Well... now I *really* want to see those outtakes! :)

Looks like i spoke too soon black stripe and blackface sound amazing on vocals and piano. Guess it just depends on the input!
Yes, the source material matters!
Hi, AudioScape - 76A VS CLA bluey PLEASE!!!!!!!
or can you please tell me something about them at least (differences etc)? Thank you. 🤘🏼🤘🏼
The bluey has a more dirt and aggressive sound where as the 76A is way more clean
love D
Thanks!
