I barely had time to get to know mine before having to pack it up and stick it in storage for a year due to a couple of moves. I miss it terribly and can't wait to get back to it in the spring. Its a magic box for sure!
It's on every vocal and bass I've recorded since I got it. It's so good. It's infinitely better than any 2A style plugin I've used and I don't have an original LA-2A at my disposal. The way it grabs transients without pumping is so good. I feel like this unit allows me to get that 2A glue without the low mids getting soooo overly saturated and fluffy. It's so good.
Also, the AudioScape prices are wildly good. I think they could be charging about double for their gear. It's so much better than 99% other stuff at the price point.
Same here, it really is a magic box when it comes to bass. Out of all my synths and gear, it's probably the only thing I'd recommend as a must have essential.
Audioscape rules. I have the MK-609 (Neve 33609), AS78 (1178) and the 260VU (DBX 160) all of them rule. All made in the US with NOS parts. I am currently eyeballing the DA-3A they have.
Love mine so much. Absolute game changer to have. I made a vid for them too where I recorded my tune ‘The Ones They Adore’ tracking everything thru it and used almost no plugins afterwards. One of my best mixes haha!
I could be wrong here, but I have a glorious PAL plus Mklll T4 opto comp/Preamp with a similar SC control. On mine, fully counter-clockwise is full range, as you go clockwise more and more low-end passes through without triggering the compression. They way you read the manual said to me the operation your Audioscape would behave the same way. Update after watching... you are right. Yours shows more compression fully clockwise, therefore thenoppgsite of mine. Love your channel!
THATS WHY I WAS CONFUSED I know that part of the video was like 5 seconds. But my editor would tell you I sat there for a few minutes making darn sure.
From the very first time I ran a vocal through mine I knew it was a keeper. You cannot make the thing sound bad. I have quite a few compressors but the opto finds its way onto a ton of tracks, in addition to every vocal
This has been a favorite of mine for years. I've got the modern Teletronix LA2A and vintage units. The Opto Comp is on par with quality, and the HF knob adds in more flexibility.
Super great info...I own a Teletronix La2a hardware and what I notice when turning the emphasis screw all the way counter clock wise, the needle on my UV meter goes from 0.0 value to -10.0 without any audio running through it. I am not sure if this is normal but maybe you have some info on this. I tried researching the web for explanations but could not find any other than the purpose of turning this screw and what to expect when doing so. Thanks
Thanks Justin, some videos I see of yours you blow my head off n make me think im a know nothing loser and I get jealous (which also inspires me to kick myself up the arse) n most others just inspire me to relax have fun n experiment. a mix of both works for me, you remind me that ive gotta get out of my home studio and work in a bigger studio as an assist, I need a mentor, thanks for your hard work geezer
This is $999 right now on sale. For CCM, the vocals seem a little bit buried (at least listening here). The AF knob is a nice addition to this. At 100 that pop vocal is nice, it is like adding an exciter.
That piece does sound great, and I see what you mean. I think the UA plug of the 2A would be a slightly better compare with it (not a fan of the Waves version), but yeah, "girth" is a good description. I recently picked up an Golden 58 2-ch tube preamp by Audioscape,..my first piece from them. A local buy too so even better -- LOVING it so far. On vocals and acoustic guitar just beautiful. Tried it on drum overheads and electric cabs as well -- yeah, it's gonna get a lot of use, mostly for tracking. I see more Audioscape in my future -- thanks again!
I love it on vocals also. I am gonna pick up the 76D. I also have 3 of their buss compressors that’s strapped to a few of my busses feeding the Neve Orbit… 😮💨
I don't own any hardware gear yet, but I find myself drawn to the sounds that come from using hardware inserts. I own a ton of plugins but I'm at the point I want mostly hardware. It just sounds better. Thanks for the review.
lol. If you want to clamp hard for rock stuff distressor, if you want a more general comp you can still dig into sometimes but sonically had a bigger imprint.the audioscape is the move.
@@RecordingStudioLoser that's great thanks. Although, they seem really expensive in the UK, for not much more I can get a real Neve 33609. They're certainly much, much more expensive in the UK than the USA, which I'm not going to pay, because in the USA, they're viewed as a more budget friendly brand.
We LOVE ours. And our 76D. And our EQPA!
Show offs!! 😉😉
I love your mics!
I don't have the eqpa but I do have the 76D and the LA2A

Agreed. The quality to price is crazy. Audioscape and Lauten. There are more of course those stick out

Great shout out to AS. Them n Stamm are top of the game for recreations. I have this particular unit and can’t get enough of it.

you and me both

Loved your Video!
For Tracking Vocals what is your Favorit one, the opto or the vcomp?

The HF knob is a side chain filter for the detection circuit. Counter clockwise means the detector doesn’t see low end when setting threshold.

I can't wrap my mind around the price difference and that it doesn't feel like a sacrifice.
@@RecordingStudioLoser It's not a sacrifice. The Opto is just really that good.

I love the sound of this compressor. Modern classic. Bad!!!!!!!!!

I've heard nothing but great stuff concerning Audioscape, you just backed it up. Thanks for great vids.
I love all my AudioScape gear - check out their V-Comp! It’s an absolute monster on bass.
one day

Incredible timing on this. I have been considering one of these for the last few weeks. Have their new 33609 and its freakin gnarly
i haven't tried the 33609, i would love to
@@RecordingStudioLoser in general, or audioscapes? Apparently theirs is based on the metal knob OG version. It sounds very rock and roll
The AS.
Update: alright- your video caused me to buy one of these just now. Also a 76D and A.
Yippie! Ill tell my husband it was your fault
😂😂
my tracking compressor for bass / vocals

It's a shame, but I can't find any Audioscape retailers in Europe, does anyone know if they are for sale in the UK or europe?
