Hyundai/Kia have been killing it lately with the mid-cycle refreshes. The revised version of the Sonata, Seltos and Sorento look better than the pre-facelift designs.
@@theMLBfan Yeah, actually they're doing it. They're third largest car manufacturer when it comes to its selling, not only in NA market, but also world wide.
My guess is that this will come out around June and be sold as a 2025. I just bought a 2024 which has not been restyled. I saw the reviews for this from the Korean debut and hoped to get one, but I unfortunately couldn’t wait. I wish would Kia provides some infotainment updates for older models.
This looks good, but I think the Santa Fe looks better. Even if they aren't related, which is kind of surprising. Also, those DRLs look right out of Cadillac's design book.
@@bxp1696 I would prefer a regular automatic for a mainstream crossover. Honda, Toyota, and Subaru, seem to make CVT's that are numb but reliable. The Hyundai/KIA dual clutch has problems with light off-roading and they require more maintenance. Plus harsh shifts with some city driving.
I genuine question I have is: what good is the 3rd row in a vehicle this size? If you are a family of 4, you don't need it; if you are a family of 5, you need a bench 2nd row. If you have more than 3 kids (or a family of 6 or more with others living with you) then you need a larger class vehicle because you won't be able to use this for anything more than a single night stay anywhere because there's no cargo room left with the 3rd row. If you're hauling kids to practice/games - same thing, not enough room for their gear. The only thing that this 3rd row seems to be good for is hauling a bunch of co-workers to lunch at a fast-food place 5 minutes away so they don't have to suffer the back row...
Plenty of sports don't require a bunch of gear (a soccer ball?). It's strictly a part-time seat. Anyone with a large family will go for a bigger vehicle.
This looks much better than the Santa Fe. I will say that I never understood why people get the cramped 3-row vehicles. Wouldn't spending an extra $5,000 for a proper 3-row vehicle be better and roomier?
These are for people who only carry a couple of extra kids around town sometimes (for sports or to school, maybe). Anyone who needs the third row for their kids is likely to buy something bigger.
Sorry bub, but not even close. The new Santa Fe will blow the Sorento away in sales, and be even more popular than the Telluride that came before it. I have said this.
KIA can make the Sorento a more thoughtful vehicle by: 1) extending the ambient light to the rear doors, just like what the front doors have, & 2) lighting up the cabin light of the boot whenever opening a car door (not only the boot) so that it can light up the 3rd row for better access (since most of the models come with a 3rd row seats).
30 miles range on the PHEV model is a bit disappointing. This would have been a huge hit in the hybrid market if they managed to add another 20 miles range.
I think Kia hit the mark here on size - and other automakers should pay attention. Let's start with two facts: (i) a heck of a lot of people live in cities where things are tight; and (ii) most parents have two kids - but sometimes need room for friends, cousins, teammates, etc... The Highlander is 195". The Pilot is 200". The CX-90 is 202". I could go on but basically every other 3-row SUV is longer than the Highlander at 195". The Sorrento is just 189" - and the third row is usable. The third row isn't huge. It is not something an adult would want to sit in for a long road trip. But absolutely usable in a pinch for taking the neighbor's kids to the pool or driving them home from soccer practice. And it is more practical than the third row in the Mitsubishi Outlander which is comically small. Kia also nails it with fancy tech. I mean have you seen the infotainment screen on affordable trims of the Highlander from 2020-2022? They look like someone stuck a computer from 1997 in there. Yes, they fixed it for 2023 on the XLE trim and up - but Kia makes you feel like you got the latest and greatest. The Sorrento nails a gap between the RAV4 (at 181") and the Highlander (at 195"). It gives you three-rows in a relatively compact footprint, with a hybrid option, and a great infotainment system - that is why they are selling well. And i suspect if you looked at where it was selling well, it would be in cities/suburbs. If i were Toyota and Honda, i would get a true competitor out there. Toyota and Honda have a much better reputation for reliability and if they had a true competitor for the Sorrento - i suspect it would sell very well. My suggestion: make a 3-row version of the RAV4 in an upcoming redesign, maybe call it a RAV4 XL. The third-row in the 2012 RAV4 was tight, but usable for kiddos in a pinch.
This is spot on. Definitely the exact reasons I'm considering getting this. I live in San Francisco with two kids so parking is tight but need to maximize interior space.
We still appreciate the 2019 Sorento we purchased, but really would prefer better mpg (19). We've never used the 3rd row. Too bad the dealers are going ape-bleep marking up the plug in model.
We have a 2017 with the V6 and get about 22 mpg. Better gas mileage is great but the V6 has the right amount of power and we do a tow occasionally. You might save a bit of money short-term with the turbo but the extra pressure and heat would have me dumping it before the powertrain warranty runs out.
I don’t get this. I ordered this model in June 2022 and I still haven’t received it. What is going on with Kia???? Does anyone know why? I’m in Canada and it seems like every country is getting it. I’ve also been reading that the updated version of the PHEV won’t be available until 2025 but the LA auto show gets one?…
That's because Hyundai/Kia don't make stuff on their own. They take what's already out there and use that to piece together their cars. Have you seen the new Santa Fe? From the side and back you'd think it was a Land Rover Discovery.
@@krane15 To be fair, you can say the same about a lot of other manufacturers. "The new CRV looks like a Volvo!" "The new Mustang looks like a Camaro!" "Every CUV looks identical!" "Ford stole Aston's grille design!"
I have always liked the Sorento, but could never pull the trigger because of the poor fuel mileage. A full-electric BEV Sorento with 2nd gen EGMP technology could recapture my attention.
I do like this but it’s looks as if it’s cousin, the redesign Santa Fe will have more cargo and 3rd row room with its extended boxer design and wide opening.
Looks like a base Telluride. Not as luxurious in design and execution but still has that resemblance and familiarity. Obviously it's going to be priced lower than the Kia counterpart so if you were pining for that Telluride XS or whatever high trim, this could be a viable option for those fake ballers.
Who prefers a bench over Captain's chairs? Would you prefer that? I'd order the bench only if I had little ones. By the time they're teens, they want/need their own space.
The Santa Fe is a completely new design that's well equipped and almost totally utilitarian. It boxy in shape, but outshines the Sorento in so many ways it doesn't even come close.
Happens all the time. There's always that guy or female the walks right into the shot, or jumps into the vehicle as if you're not even there. Too bad there's no voluntary etiquette in the video acquisition world. It only takes a few minutes to photograph and make the video
So do the Highlander and the RAV4 and the Nissan Rogue and Pathfinder. 4 stars is a very good rating, and very few crossovers earn 5. The IIHS crash tests give the Sorento top marks in their system.
the hybrid uses the ancient, tried and true super reliable torque converter 6 speed. Nothing fancy, and bulletproof. The non hybrid, with the 8spd seems to have issues in the SUVs but not the cars (probably due to weight).

Years later and we're still getting these "Hyundai group killing it lately" comments. 🙄
2nd/3rd gen Sorentos were the best looking, IMO. The prefacelift version of this 4th generation comes close. This facelift is too aggressive, IMO.
