Language barrier, What freakin' language barrier? These five young Japanese women are as hard rock as anyone. In fact, there are some new bands that need to start listening to Band-Maid for rock inspiration. I loved the opening duo by Misa and Akane. They do that in a few of their songs, and boy, do we Maidiacs love it. Kanami is a pure genius. Your right about Saiki. With her powerful but beautiful voice, her movement and mannerisms while she sings really catches the audience's attention. She is such a charismatic lead and everyone who comes away from a live Band-Maid concert understands that. I've heard a LOT of rock music in my life and at 75 years of age, Band-Maid has restored my love of rock and realizing the future of rock is alive, but it now has a Japanese influence.

    KANAMI is a riff machine!
You can create a powerful groove with one impressive riff, or you can develop 4 to 5 riffs in one song to show a variety of scenery.

I’m 58 and have seen a lot of bands live. Some of the best bands ever at the peak of their powers, and some great bands starting out and trying to build their audience. Band Maid, despite not speaking the best English (but getting better), still had a better connection to the audience than any I’ve seen. They are so likable, and engaging, and they know how to work the crowd. Killer live performance, musically, and thoroughly fun even when they aren’t playing a song.

Another great song, that to my knowledge, has been rarely performed since then. A casualty of having over 100 great songs in their catalog. Another in the same boat is Take Me Higher. Same classic rock vibe and also rarely performed.

HGK...From the Nishi Yuki channel. Please make note of this one for future reacting ! It's a live performance from the 2021 Day of Maid online concert. Miku named it after a Turkish guided missile system. The epic opening guitar solo, written by Kanami, was SO difficult she couldn't even play it ! After MUCH practice, you can see the amazing results ! 🤯

  • @greylocke100

MISA's little intro was to give Miku and Kanami time to switch out their guitars. They needed to switch the tuning and it was quicker to switch guitars than to retune. You can see Miku taking her guitar off as MISA plays her intro. Nowadays Miku is skilled enough she can retune rather quickly depending on the song. Sometimes it is still quicker just to change guitars. A few songs they use Drop D, where only the low E is downtuned, on others all 6 strings are tuned down, hence switching out the guitar if they don't use a drop pedal. When they toured the US, both Miku and Kanami would just retune and use a drop pedal. When they performed their tour finales last November, they switched out their guitars. Miku even added a new T style to her stable of guitars that many of us are hoping to find out the specs on.
Kanami has said many times that 2 of her biggest influences are Larry Carlton and Carlos Santana. She also cites EVH and I can't remember the guys name, but he is a Japanese/Korean, not Tomoyasu Hotei, but another guitarist who's band I cannot for the life of me remember the name of. I read a translation of an interview she gave and she threw his name out for his use of unusual scales, I think it was like half a sentence then she started talking about Larry Carlton.
There is no good live of it, but the studio version is available on their channel, but you should listen to "Unfair Game" which is the "B" side to their YOLO single.
And I saw them last year in Houston on Mothers Day. And it seemed the concert had just started when suddenly I was rolling my wheelchair out of the venue. My arms, throat and cheeks were all sore and I had a Miku Pick.

Much of BAND-MAID’s early stuff sounds like Hair Metal. Back in the day, I was totally into Hardcore, and later Thrash, so I turned my nose up at Hair Metal, dismissing it a Pop music with crunchy guitars (i.e., NOT Metal) made in LA for an audience of girls by guys with eye makeup and too much hair spray (although I did go to see RATT at a The Stone). But in the 21st century, BAND-MAID have made me appreciate the genre’s charms.
KANAMI’s solos are always so tasty. She strictly follows the maxim, “always leave them wanting more.”
SAIKI is my number one, but as a rule, it’s best if Japanese vocalists avoid English songs. That said, you should check out their latest, BESTIE: 100% English. BTW, Japanese say, “sai-ki.” Not, “said-KEEE.”

Outstanding choice. Thanks for reading comments and trusting the fans to turn you on to the best of the Maids.
The “World Domination” album was Band Maid’s “Back in Black.” A brand new sound, brand new outfits and the debut of their new ⚡️ logo. More than that, it has more hits than most bands have in a career.
“I can’t live without you” is the lead track from the album and deservedly so. The most impressive Saiki vocal performance as she shows how she can deliver a nearly four minute song on a single breath (seemingly)
If you’ve read this far? Here’s the jam for you: “Moratorium,” from the same Zepp show. You’re welcome 😉

Saiki sure elevates my least favourite songs to the next level every time I listen to the live version. In studio recording she tends to sing perfectly but lacks the rock energy she gives off on stage.
For example, there are many fans who wasn't that impressed by the song "endless story" when it came out. We all know that the song has the killer bass line and everything was tasty, but sounded too soft and poppy on the CD.
Saiki adds emotional depth and passion to their songs when performing live. Not as flawless and yet she gives me chills. And everyone brings extra something to the table. Band-Maid always gives us some kind of surprises that makes every single live one and only. Once you go to one of their shows, you can't stop there. Their live concerts are addictive, non-stop party.
They have way too many fan favourites that they try to change up setlist for every show during the tour to serve dedicated fans.
