Some songs like Domination are so much better live. The live setting not only elevates the song, but really transforms the song into it a whole new beast. Having the crowd be the sixth member makes the song so much more exciting. This is a perfect example of composing for a live audience. Yes, there are bands that will point the mic to the crowd and expect the crowd to be able to sing a line from a verse or the bridge, but it's clear that it's not built for the live setting. With Domination, there is no doubt this is meant with an audience. It fits naturally and it's easy enough to sing along to. That's just another thing that separates Band-Maid from their contemporaries.

This song is where a lot of new listeners and first time reactors are recommended to go, as it show cases all of their talent! I would recommend checking out the live "Dice/Hate?" from Lollapalooza 2023 in Chicago, it's a freight train of awesomeness! Fair warning, the camera folks and director (Not Band-Maid's) were not ready for these ladies!

@@TheMetalCoach if you see ANY Japanese artists wearing Buck-ees gear, it probably came from a Dallas fan. Band Maid fan culture is similar to Dead Heads and Parrot Heads. We travel the country (some the world) and the concerts for us start before sunrise (Anaheim 2023 was 3am) and we just party and hang out until the 7pm show. I'm one of the hosts of Maid News Network here on YT. Welcome to the fandom.

The Ladies are in my personally opinion the BEST LIVE HARD ROCK BAND currently active. I saw them last year in Houston, and the next time the visit Texas I will be there as well.
The studio track was recorded about the time Saiki had to have vocal cord surgery to remove polyps from her vocal cords. So what you hear on the studio track is not comparable to what Saiki sounds like after her vocal surgery and training of her "New Voice" (Saiki called it that after her surgery in a Twitter post). And her voice has only matured and gotten better since then, as she still uses a vocal coach and her band mates are VERY careful with both her and Miku's voices.

Great reaction and like a lot of us old boomers, these ladies have touched a nerve of what it was like back in the 50's and 60's when rock was first starting out: raw, live and new. Been a fan of them for about 6 years after hearing Thrill, then binging all the videos I could find. Thanks for the in-depth analysis on this song and it was the 20th out of 21 songs for this concert.

Their Dice/HATE Lollapalooza performance is legendary. The camera work is a bit erratic because it was filmed by a film crew who did not know the songs, however.....the performance is second to none. You need to check it out! Rock on 🤘

One thing they are really known for live is all the extra little stuff they add in that you don't get to hear on the studio versions: new intros, extended solos and jam sessions, drum solos, bass-vs-guitar battles, and so on. It's not often that you'll see them do a song live without adding a little something extra!

One of the all-time great Hard Rock live performances, by any band. The closest I can recall to this level of songwriting, lyricism, playing and performing was when I saw Zeppelin way back in the 70's...but then Jimmy Page thought so too as when he saw them live he went backstage to ask Akane, the drummer, for a selfie. 🤘🤘At 3:20 - MISA, the bassist, Kanami the lead guitarist and composer, and Miku the rhythm guitarist and founder of the band, are playing Hengao - "strange faces" - with Akane the drummer, which is making funny faces to try and put someone off. Akane, of course, laughs along while not missing a beat. It shows the ladies' confidence in each others' abilities that they can fool around like this while all of them slam out note-perfect Rock at full tilt. At 4:05 - MISA the bassist is holding her plectrum in her curled finger so she can produce it and switch from slapping to picking in half a nanosecond! At 4:46 - Akane the drummer hitting two separate beats on her double kick pedals while simultaneously continuing the song melody on her snare, toms and cymbal. At 5:50 - a brief glimpse of Kanami laying down one sweet rolling chord pattern - pure class. THE best live Rock band on Earth. And beyond.

Great reaction and insights! Not sure which songs you’ve done so far, but this song shows how skilled they were 6 years ago. Trust me… this band doesn’t rest on its laurels for a second. “Dice/Hate?” From Lollapalooza has been recommended, and I second that. Also, try the instrumental music video “From Now On” to see them sans-vocals (although we all love Saiki!).

Great analysis. You went through it section by section and covered it in detail. I missed when they came to House of Blues in Dallas in September 2019 (because I didn't know they existed) but I was there the next time they came in October 2022, and they closed with "Domination." They played Houston a couple of nights later, and played Houston and Austin in May 2023 so keep your eyes and ears open. Also keep in mind you can get pre-sale tickets via their fan club which costs 550/month (about $3.66 at the current exchange rate).
