Watch HATE? live from Yokahama Arena 2023. Thrill is the oldest video they have and is the one that saved the band from being dropped by their label. Their skills have grown exponentially from this point in time. The song I suggested will stun you I think. Thanks to Roger Chance for promoting Band Maid so much. Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 11th year with the original line up.
Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!

You started with older songs. Band-Maiko was an April fools day joke. Thrill was when they first started out. Non-Fiction days is still from their earlier days. Try a more recent song and video Hate? the live video from their official channel. Try No God for the bass player. Live from the Tokyo Garden Theatre. They are better live than the MV
Welcome to Band Maid! The best rock band around (imo of course). These wonderfully talented ladies have been kicking butt for over a decade and have a catalog to match. They don’t make bad songs, as this video kinda proves. Go to their RUclips, watch whatever you want. It’ll be great. It may be surprisingly different than what you expected, but it will always be great.
What I would recommend is checking out some of their official live videos, because as great as their videos are, they’re better live. They released 4 songs from their most recent performance. I’d recommend watching those as they’re all very different songs.

Roger strikes again! Welcome to the wonderful world of Band-Maid. Miku's (red rose) guitar in Thrill is a Rickenbacker 620 which she bought simply for it's looks as she didn't yet know how to play guitar when the band started. Great story behind that and I'm sure others will soon fill you in on the deatails. She started the band with herself as the lead singer but quickly realized she didn't really have the voice for the type of music they wanted to play so auditioned a new singer (Saiki, with the blue rose) and the current line up was set and history was made. In Secret Maiko Lips (An April fools joke based on their song Secret My Lips, another great story) she is, I believe, playing her Zemaitis A24MF "Aces and Eights" as she had progressed so far as a guitarist to become an endorsed artist for Zemaitis. She owns a LOT of guitars now and even has her own signature model named "Flappy Pigeon" (again more stories about that). Enjoy the ride with these ladies. I know I have.
Personally, I think the Rickenbacker 620 was used by her favorite Ringo Shiina, and it appears in the lyrics of one of her signature songs, "Marunouchi Sadistic," so I think that may have had some influence on her choice.
Roger deserve an award for pushing BM to more people. These ladies deserve more recognition than what they get right now.

Welcome home princess ❤ You discovered the best rock band of these days .. and you have seen just the tip of the iceberg, even with three songs. Their very first music video "Thrill". And then: Their first April's fools act: Band Maiko with a lot references to their different characters. Interesting picks! These ladies are masters at their instruments: Kanami (Mincho) lead guitar and main composer, Akana (A-chan; Gorilla, my favourite) on drums and Misa (the barefoot assassin) on bass. Then there is lead vocalist Saiki who is perfect for the Band Maid sound. And the last one Miku is our little pigeon 🕊: Pure energy, fantastic backing vocals and harmonies with Saiki, some wonderful lead vocal songs and these days very good on rhythm guitar ... she wasn't able to play the guitar in 2013 when she founded the band.
I don't know of any other band where the fans' top song lists differ as much as Band Maid. This is just a (quite) random selection of songs:

You won't be disappointed in diggin' in to any of their other 120+ songs in their discography. But, if I have to make a suggestion, I'm going to suggest "Hate?" official live video. I guarantee you will not hate it 😁
They are very much mind blowingly good. Only found them about a year ago and they just impress over and over. I highly recommend checking out their music video Blooming, and they also released a few live videos recently and either Don't You Tell Me or Hate? can really show how they've gotten even more talented over their 10 year career.
The future of rock is in good hands... good, manicured, talented and beautiful Japanese hands.

Your second video was an April Fool’s joke on the fans. The Maids pretended to ditch their entire theme (and their names!) and switch to Maiko (apprentice geisha) The traditional instrument you asked about is called a “shamisen.”

Band Maid is simply monstrous. Ten years, eight albums and more than 125 tracks of sheer goodness. This is just the tip of the iceberg for them.
The lady with the red flower is the band founder. She was the lead vocalist for a few months until her and management needed a more powerful voice so they recruited the lady with the blue flower. In the early days they shared lead vocal duties. Now, she mostly just plays as 2nd vocalist/backup. She is still, however, the main lyricist and the face of the band.
I'm a boomer, passionate about all kinds of music, and also a hobby musician.
In my life, I have seen countless concerts, of all the greats from the 70s to today.
And I must say that when in 2019 I saw Band Maid live for the first time I was very impressed, so much so that I chased them for days across half of Europe to see other concerts.
These girls in concert are CRAZY!

Welcome to the world of Band Maid. I quit listen to hard rock for more than 10 years and they took me back.
So Secret Maiko Lips is a self-cover of their own song, Secret My Lips. This was their April Fools joke, where they went from Band-Maid to Band-Maiko, (maiko = geisha understudy), hence the traditional Japanese instrumentation added and geisha outfits. If you favor the pop-rock side of their work, I think your favorite song might end up being Choose Me. That said, I will have to also suggest Hate live and Domination LIVE (not the MV). Those two songs really show their unrivaled stage presence.
Band-Maiko was actually an April Fools to the fans of Band-maid but they had so much fun and the fans loved it they did several songs. They have a cameo in the Movie Kate which was on Netflix and may still be but they have so many great songs. Domination live and for a little change up with some funk Manners live
You may want to check out, Freedom, Manners/Black Hole, Domination, Hate (most recent), Influencer, About Us,and Domination (live) by this band along with about a hundred other great songs. Another great band to check out is The Warning and a song called Dust to Dust (live at Teatro Metropolitan).

Thank you, Roger for suggesting to Annabelle to react to the best Rock Band on the planet……since oh, I don’t know…..since forever! Welcome Annabelle to the pigeon hole that is Band Maid. I grew up listening to Van Halen, Rush and Led Zepplin and thought the best of rock was in the past. Band Maid proved me wrong, the best of Rock are our beautiful and talented Maids. Rock needed a woman’s touch and Band Maid is it. They are humble and appreciative of their fans like no other. I’m sure others will introduce you to the Maids but I can’t help but sing their praise…..MISA, the barefoot assassin, plays barefoot in concert to better feel the vibration of the music. Kanami, the composer of most of their new music and a genius on lead guitar. If Eddie Van Halen is a king of the guitar, Kanami is certainly a Queen. Akane, the awesome drummer who was reminded Led Zeppelin’s lead singer of John Bonham, one of the all-time greats. Saiki, the lead singer with the best Rock voice since Grace Slick from the 60’s and 70’s. And, of course the founder of this band, the greatest band of all-time, is Miku the rhythm and backup vocalist. She also writes awesome lyrics and is a good enough singer to lead most bands but with Band Maid forms a lethal one-two punch with Saiki. Anyways, try listening to Moratorium or Hate?….LIVE is always best with Band Maid. Or instrumental Onset, From now on…..oh , geez, Pick any of their 120+ songs and you cannot go wrong.

Best hard rock band in decades. Lifting my spirits since 2018. I've been a prog/hard bop music snob, then psych/indie for lack of anything else tolerable. Finally hard rock is substantive again! And super fun! I love this band, and I think you will too. Thank you for reacting for them. We maidiacs are on a mission to get them the recognition they deserve. They're getting there, but there is more to accomplish!!

Rhythm guitarist and band founder, Miku Kobato (small pigeon) was originally the only lead singer in the band. She quickly decided that her voice was "too bright" for the music they wanted to play so they searched for another lead singer and found Saiki Atsumi who was already signed to the same company. At the time of the Thrill video, Miku did not know how to play guitar but was talked into buying a guitar to hold for the video. She bought this Rickenbacler because it fit their black and white image and looked cool. She has now become a very good rhythm guitarist and is an essential part of their live sound. She even has her own signature guitar called Flappy Pigeon made by Zemaitis who have endorsed her for quite a few years now.
The drummer is Akane Hirose (gorilla). Her nickname comes partially from her love of eating bananas. She almost always snacks on one during their long okyu-ji (servings, concerts) which routinely last well over 2 hours. Their 10th Anniversary Tour Final at Yokohama Arena lasted 3 - 1/2 hours. There are several Official Live Videos from that concert on their RUclips Channel. All are excellent and worth listening to. A couple of them (Don't You Tell ME and Hate?) have guitar and bass duels.
You can't go wrong by listening to Moratorium, No God, Rinne, Onset, From Now On, Without Holding Back, About Us, Play, Why Why Why, and Don't You Tell Me. They have a catalog of over one hundred great songs. If you are not fond of one then choose another because it will be different than the one before it and the next one to follow. Have fun with it!
The members are all very knowledgeable smart musicians and so you'll never ever get bored or tired of listening to their music. It's going to be a long journey, though😉 Great reaction👏👏👏
Best rock band I, personally, discovered the last 30 years. I was listening to the same old stuff over and over again, but they have restored my faith and fun in music again.

Check out "The Warning", 3 sisters from Mexico that rock hard. They are opening for Evanescence this year. Also, they will be playing with Band Maid this June in Tokyo.
Roger (the cat?) are a legend.
ROGER IS THE MAN!!!!! I believe you will enjoy EVERY Band-Maid song you hear. I'm 75 years old and have seen a LOT of hard rock ( and other rock) in my years from the iconic i.e. Cream, The Doors, The Byrds, Led Zeppelin, The Allman Brothers Band, Devo and the not so famous. These five young Japanese females are "the real deal"! Thrill was their official music video and it saved the band. It was played on a J-Rock radio station. They got 2 million hits in two weeks. The rest is history. They celebrated their 10th Anniversary tour this past November. The band has been intact since day one. Band Maiko's "Secret Maiko Lips" was an April Fool joke on their fans. They told their fan base they were all becoming Band Maiko and released an album. "Gion Cho" from that album is really good as well. "Domination", the official live video, is the video you should react to. It was the video that got my attention. It shows how the Maids interact with their fans(and their hold over the audience) during the live show. I seen to two of their concerts last year. The best two rock concerts that I have been to in DECADES. Band-Maid's official live videos are often better than their official music videos.
Now you need to understand something. Band-Maid fans call ourselves Maidiacs. If you jump down the rabbit-hole that is Band-Maid, it is referred to as the "pigeon-hole". Why, because Miku Kobato, (she wears the red rose on her head) the band's founder, rhythm guitarist, and primary lyricist, considers herself as the reincarnation of an 810 year old pigeon. She ends every one of her sentences with "po" (pigeon speak).
Her enthusiastic quirky personality is endearing to all of their fans. The more you react to Band-Maid, the more Maidiacs watching your channel. That's a proven fact. Annabelle we would love to have you as part of our community. We're friendly,and helpful, and we LOVE Band-Maid.

They have great music videos, but they're primarily a live band. Definitely check out some of their most recent official live videos, like Hate, which comes from their 10th anniversary tour closer in Yokohama Arena. You kind of stumbled into a few of their older songs, and they're constantly improving. Their live shows tend to include some extra solos and stuff that they throw in so that the fans who come to see them get something extra special, and they're constantly switching up their set lists (they have upwards of 120 songs), so every show is fresh, even if mega fans chase them around on tour.
And yes you must see them live. That's when it'll really hit you how good they are, and how great they are at interacting with the fans. Many of their songs have singalong parts.
Band-Maid, the greatest rock band that you can't understand why you've never heard of them before. This band has attracted a loyal fan base of musicians and music lovers who appreciate Band-Maid's technical prowess, tone, compositions, and lyrics. Band-Maid has a strong DIY work ethic; they set stretch goals for themselves and the music videos are just the tip of the iceberg. The musicianship is over the top amazing and the two vocalists are magic when the harmonize.
"Thrill" was Band-Maid's FIRST hit song and the video that saved them. If the "Thrill" video hadn't gone viral, their management would have cancelled them. Their fans, who identify as Maidiacs, will tell you their favorite Band-Maid song is the last one they've listened to. They're prolific songwriters with a catalog of over 100 songs from which to pull a set list. They are one of the tightest live acts you'll ever witness. That weird guitar was a Rickenbacker, chosen when Kanami Tono asked Miku Kobato to learn guitar so she could play rhythm as well as sing backup. She liked that it all black and white, because it matched the B&W maid outfits. Kanami gave Kobato lessons and nine years later Kobato is nearly as good as Kanami.
Band-Maiko "Secret Maiko Lips" was part of an elaborate April Fools Day Joke. The calligraphy being written at the beginning reads "World Domination" which is one of Band-Maid's running gags. This was a re-arrangement of "Secret My Lips" with traditional Japanese instruments and the lyrics rewritten in the traditional Kyoto dialect of the Geisha. The 'pretty' guitar is a Zemaitis 'Flappy Pigeon' - that Miku assisted Zemaitis in its design. Kobato now plays Zemaitis Guitars exclusively. Kanami has a similar contract with Paul Reed Smith Guitars (PRS). Misa plays Black Cloud Bass Guitars who now market a signature model built to Misa's specification.
During the "Non-Fiction Days" shoot, which was shot on a cold beachfront, drummer Akane Hirose did catch her costume on fire as she attempted to keep herself warm. She plays TAMA drums, Zildjian cymbals, and Wincent makes her sticks.

Welcome to Band-Maid!!!! As good as all these videos are, anything they do live takes it up a notch! I highly recommend Domination Live. You get to see some of their personalities and how they interact with each other. They will always put a smile on your face as it’s melting off!

Your reaction is much like my own when I first heard them at the end of 2019. RUclips had been putting them in my recommends for the better part of a month and I'd brushed them off as simple J-Pop, not my thing, but finally I gave in and clicked on video. Holy crap. They are ridiculous. If you want another recommendation of ridiculously good rock, have you heard "The Warning"? Three sisters from Mexico, top shelf hard rock, and they will be playing with BAND-MAID in Tokyo in June. I can't say on RUclips what I'd be willing to do to be at that show, but suffice it to say the list of things I wouldn't do is alarmingly short!
These young ladies are doing a show on June 12 in Tokyo at the EX Theater with another of my favorite all girl bands, The Warning. If you want to see another great new band try them out.
I like the fact that incorporated their old culture into a song and then mix modern-day instruments into.
Scary thing for you is that very few fans have the songs you listened to in their let’s say top 5 or 10 songs. They are just so damn good.
First, you just stepped into a HUGE rabbit hole. The level of talent in Japan is mind-blowing!
Second, there is a lot to unpack here as you did three MV's in one video.
Ok, Thrill. This MV saved Band Maids career. Their first album did not sell very well, and their management company was about to let them go. The ladies made a bargain. Let's make a MV and post it on RUclips and see if it gets any traction. The vid was shot on a limited budget, one room just the band, a few costume changes. At first nothing, then a YT reactor found the vid and posted their reaction, then other music fans found it and the rest is history. That vid now has over 20 MILLION views. The band completed their 10-year anniversary tour last year and will be going back to the studio to record their next album.
Secret maiko lips. This started out as an April Fool's prank by the ladies, but it got so much positive reaction that they decided to go with it. This is a sub unit of Band Maid called Band Maiko and this song is a bit of a parody of their Band Maid song, Secret my lips. The song is done in a Kyoto dialect, sort of like singing in Old English, with some traditional instruments mixed in, the shamisen and Koto.
Non-fiction Days, this is from their third mini album, Brand New Maid. The theme of the song is the lies we tell ourselves (the fiction) to get through our day (the non-fiction)
Some stuff about the band. The drummer, Akine< did not know girls were allowed to play rock drums until she saw Nao, the drummer for MAXIMUM THE HORMONE playing. During live shows the rest of the band will surround her drum set and make faces at her to get her to laugh. Btw, in the future, if there is a live version of a song by them...watch the live performance!
The band was founded by Miku Kobato. She used to work at a Maid Cafe where the maids also sang to the patrons. She thought that would make for an interesting rock band. Early in the rehearsals Miku realized that her singing was not enough. So, she and the management company found Saiki to be lead singer and she would be back up. This is also when she decided to learn the guitar so she could be back up signer and rhythm guitarist. Also, Band Maid concerts are called "servings" and they refer to their male fans as "masters", their female fans as "princesses". The characters for Miko Kobato's name (小鳩ミク) have a double meaning for small pidgin and Miko takes that literally as she will add Po randomly as she talks. Po is the sound, in Japanese, that a pidgin makes.😂

Did you know they have metal bands in India? Yes, really. Look up Bloodywood and their song, Aaj(today) They sing in Hindi and English.
React to some of the 'official live' videos on their channel. The added energy of an audience amps up the experience. For a drum solo try "Freedom". For back-and-forth guitar and bass solos, "HATE?" and "Don't You Tell ME". "endless Story " is a slow love ballad. The "Catharsis" and "Sayonakidori" cuts from a full online acoustic concert are worth a listen to see how versatile they are. Just for fun (not reaction), find one of the many fancams of Miku's "Omajinai Time" from the American tours. This is how Miku keeps the crowd entertained while the others take a short break.

I would highly recommend their live vids, they are a top tier live act where their personalities shine...Domination (Live) and Hate? (Live) will blow you away I'm sure. Finally I would suggest checking out some of their subtitled interviews and the excellent Band Maid documentaries by user Ohrenje to learn all you'll want to know about the individual members and their very individual personalities. If you are considering what songs to start with I'd check out the official music videos of 'Revive' or 'Dissention' from Nemophila and the MTV live performance of 'Evolve' for The Warning. These songs will give you a good introduction to each band but the rabbit hole is deep...just as you will find with Band-Maid. It's so cool to see all female bands reviving the rock/metal scene and carrying the torch forward with a modern flair!
