Band-Maid tweaks and augments their songs for live shows, with new solos and arrangements and stuff, so that loyal fans are rewarded for coming out for them, so definitely check out lives even if you’ve heard a studio track.
Another point of interest for a drummer is the Manners/Black Hole live video. Manners is slower, but with a lot of complexity, and Black Hole is their fastest song at 220 BPM.
I’d also check out Balance, for some weird timing stuff.

Akane is ALWAYS right in the pocket. She plays with emotion. Watch anything from the 2023 Yokahama Arena concert. Best rock band on the planet. If you're interested there is a series of videos on RUclips about the various members of the band and what they went through to get to where they are. Akane has her own and I think you might find it interesting and very informative. Band Maid is kind of a miracle karmic creation.

Though you can't see much of Akane's work on the live official MV for BLACK HOLE, you, as a drummer, will be able to hear what she's doing. I'll just add that the song hits 220 BPM at many points and Akane listed 6 patterns she could use and chose the 6th, which she titled "Hell".

Akane is one of those very rare drummers that use the drum solo to cool down and have a rest from the crazy stuff she does in the songs. You should try anything they made after Covid. According to Akane, she used the lockdown to perfect the basics and how she hits the drums. The result was that she gain a few levels on the drum scale. The studio technicians noticed it already when they were setting the ground levels on the drum mics.

Band Maid - maybe not your most technical, but technically flawless. The music and performance are what I love about them, unique blending of music (genres) and very engaging on stage. One of the best bands to come out recently which has re-ignited my enjoyment of music. Great review and reaction!

They are perfect with the tempo because they have it in one of the tracks is precisely the tempo track. That's why their songs almost match the originals, thanks to that detail. in the monitoring headphones. Many Japanese bands do it. The Warning does it too. It's one of the big differences with 20+ year old bands. The live tempo is remarkable. Great reaction, greetings from Argentina

The nice thing about Band Maid when one of the members does a solo is that there's absolutely no showboating. The solos are all tasteful and just enough to complement the song. Nobody goes overboard with their solos going off on all tangents. The solos keep to the melody line.

Misa uses ear-monitors with holes and (I heard) plays barefoot so she can feel Akane's kick and toms though her feet - she uses Akane as her click IOW, and the way the two sync seems to bear that out - there are times when the two are matching 16th note patterns that you don't often hear in studio recordings let alone live.

I always point to reactors to freedom. On the left side of the stage, kanami and Miku pumping the their fists, clapping their hands , cheering and hollering for Akane during her drum solo. I have never seen other bands cheer each other on for doing a great job.. Akane is the only drummers that has brought Me to tears from here overwhelming sense of joy that she exhudes. Being a drummer myself. I have noticed that Akane s drum solos are more for the fans to be entertaining and not solos toe"impress drummers.

There are a few songs where studio is actually better, I would say. Giovanni is a notable example. It's a bit too complicated for a live performance, I think.
Although the Maids polish the live versions as they keep performing them. For example, initially Wonderland did not sound good live, when they presented it during their European tour in 2019, but already by the time they recorded it at Line Cube Shibuya, it was flowing smoothly and perfectly.
The same is with "endless Story." Now it sounds so epic each time they perform it. Everybody cries. But initially it sounded rather weak and a bit monotonous, I would say.

    • @stevekane4922
      @stevekane4922 8 месяцев назад +2

@@VladimirChupin I agree. Wonderland is a real gem and was underappreciated.
I think Bestie has a way to go, especially Saiki's vocals, she always takes a while to be really confident with a new song. Just remembering English lyrics must be harder than Japanese.

    • @VladimirChupin
      @VladimirChupin 8 месяцев назад

@@stevekane4922 They have recorded recently a couple of videos for BAND-MAID Prime where they speak English 😍 Kanami has a very strong accent, and Saiki is actually speaking very well, her accent is noticeable but not irritating, at least to my ears. I think Saiki understands this thing that when learning another language, you have to reproduce the specific way that language is spoken. Many students who learn the languages in a school, just read what is written, using their own native pronunciation, and then it sounds really awful. Kanami obviously was taught this way, but Saiki and Miku started learning English, I think, only after BAND-MAID started travelling overseas, so, they had more exposure to the actual spoken English.

Hello.....these are two great songs.....but they are older and fairly simplistic compared to BM newer material. I am a drummer and if you listen to anything post covid you can hear Akane's foot and hand speed is now completely off the charts !!!!!! I heard she spent alot of
down time they had practicing and it's obvious. Take a listen to Shambles and From Now On....both are MV's so the sound quality is great.
The real genius behind her playing is that she ALWAYS seem to find the perfect beat or fill that perfectly matches the song and it's stuff
    you would never think of.

BAND-MAID have a special way of staying tight as a band. Kanami's backing tracks are in their In-Ear Monitors. Not that they can't play without them. Once, when the airlines lost the computer they just rearranged the setlist and the sow went on. I see you have an anime poster in the background. Have you seen the OMV for 'Shambles'? That's the season two closing theme for the Netflix anime, Kengan Ashura. Or the one for Unleashed'? It's in Anime Format.

The women in Japanese rock have been on fire the past 15 years, Band Maid for 11 now.
Try Gacharic Spin. Formed in 2009, reorganized in 2019 to add new drummer (so founder could move up front) and to add 17year old singer, a double solution to the period they went through with no proper front person/lead singer. I haven’t researched your tastes yet, but their older stuff was often pop with metal drums, or hard rock with disco drums. They are also known for multiple vocalists. But the newer stuff takes their reputation for putting in everything including the kitchen sink for a chaotic high energy result, to a more blended everything (rather than back and forth), with even more chaotic playing.
But for an introduction, for a drummer, let’s try this less chaotic song from their first dvd to show the latest lineup. Song Next Stage was from years before (after they lost their founding front woman, about 2013) but reworked by the fresh team in 2019

If you haven't already, you might want to also check out the three official live videos from their (I think) tenth anniversary show. Can't get enough of their music hehe.

Ranking/Rating a musician is very subjective, and Akane (drummer) IMO is up there. BUT - one thing I will say is that she is the HAPPIEST drummer to ever sit behind a kit...... and the means more than it sounds.... Even happier than Ringo Starr.

The BM fans are always up for technical analysis if you've -cheated- , uh, -went ahead without us- , uh, listened in advance because you couldn't help yourself. It's fine, I would never be able to hold back myself.

Besides Akane, Japan is full of great female drummers, I think these could be the three best...
    Senri Kawaguchi: ruclips.net/video/urpso-w87ts/видео.htmlsi=jhB4o-aeE6OdxtVJ
    Kanade Sato: ruclips.net/video/5jDVZPzfS1c/видео.htmlsi=aYYDXEOCwxg_Hbpe
    Tamu Murata: ruclips.net/video/rcOFpYcLPIk/видео.htmlsi=aD5TSfyk9bdz5jFD ..
Also, three more of my favorites.😆
    Nagisa: ruclips.net/video/sKt01ggoYgs/видео.htmlsi=kHVvtTWmbpVOZN2K
    Natsumi: ruclips.net/video/LSzh0o4-syQ/видео.htmlsi=4Wf8wltMQsW9_q0B &
    Hana: ruclips.net/video/2NYUOaGKjLE/видео.htmlsi=hf961uxTKa7eLlmD
Of course there are many more incredible drummer girls, like:
    Nao: Maximun the Hormone
    Yoyoka
    Chiiko: D_Drive
    Marina Bozzio: ex-Aldious
    Haruna: Lovebites
    Satoko Yumoto: Fuzzy Control/Daita
    Mari: ex-Mary's Blood
    Yuri: Gacharic Spin
    Aruto: ex-Adious
    Haruka: Fate Gear
    Kanako: ex-Hagane
    etc, etc, etc

You can set your watch by Akane. One of the (if not the) best and most tasteful drummers around today.
Try out "Hate" official live - I'd like a dollar for every double kick she does.
Each and every musician brings so much to EVERY song.
Forget the outfits and the language barrier, kick back an enjoy the music.

I've been a Band Maid fan since Thrill was released. While they ARE very good live, most official "live" videos on YT are run through the computer first for some touch-ups. Some bands just use the studio tracks dubbed over the concert footage, though that's not what Band Maid does. I do think Saiki's vocals have been pitch-corrected in this one.

Band-Maid didn't write this song, and it is lighter than their own newer self-written works. But the drum solo is required listening for all drummers who want to react to some Band-Maid.

I would react to the live performances of ones you've heard, just make that clear at the top. Often the live arrangements have substantial differences to the studio tracks. Remarkably often.

I like it because it is brief. Solos of any kind that go beyond 60 to maybe 90 seconds is enough. As you said it's more of a break. Band Maid do not do long drawn-out solos. In my opinion solos that go longer than 60 to 45 seconds are boring. That is why I enjoy this solo so much. It keeps you wanting more but you can't have it because if you got more it would not be as good. You can always go back for more if you like. She got the job done is a short period of time something that drummers with massive drum kits rarely do.

BM are amazing musicians who dont have a bad song in over 120sih tracks- most of them great to amazing :) And tho that solo is famous - and domination and freedom are popular starter tracks for reactors, Akana is much better and has many much better performances in many songs :)
I hope you get to do 'From now on' MV soon- their latest instrumental (they have several, all great). That is one of the ones everyone will recommend the studio MV not a live- like with daydreaming, blooming, warning and a few more. Hope you do lots more BM - we will be hear for them! Its a good representation of their skill level nowadays.
