    Saiki's singing is sometimes confused with rap, so it's understandable that it could be defined as "the patter song." The reason for this is that Japanese syllables are fundamentally different from English.
    Japanese is monosyllable with a vowel in each sound, so I think it sounds different to English-speaking people. However, for Japanese people, the singing is just a little fast-paced.

    A great song…a paradox of a song. Miku penned some very clever lyrics. Saiki’s rap is great. Akane’s drumming is amazing. The song overall has a pop quality, yet it’s subtly virtuoso at the same time. I saw the Maids play it live in 2023 and they absolutely crushed it. It’s hard to predict what will happen in a Band Maid song as they often blindside you with an unexpected twist or two !

      For myself, I like her singing in Japanese over English, she loses the rhythmic part of her vocals when sung in English. I think that's why I'm digging all the non-English music from Japan. All these new rhythmic patterns from the Japanese language. 🤘 Though her singing in English for Bestie is incredible.

She said something about the playing allowing her to ignore the fear until she was done. They also powered through near 100 degree heat for the video. You can't tell by watching. This is classic Band Maid doing Band Maid things!
    Saiki creating a new singing style, Japanese Rock Rap? Who tries this? Band Maid does!
    Who ever thought of using ‘hunky-dory-day’ in a hard rock song, which is a dorky way of saying ‘I’m having a great day’, maybe a little sarcastically. Band Maid Does and PULLS IT OFF!
    Who gets a classic below the cliff shot of their bass guitarist hammering another classic solo inches from the edge? BAND MAID does!
    And Kanami, who is afraid of heights, gets as close as she does and hammers out an epic guitar solo! I’m afraid of heights and if I get that close to the edge, the only thing I’m doing is peeing my pants.
    Akane is just a beast through out the whole song…..Miku and Saiki vocals are classic!

    Miku is quite active on social media herself.

    Saiki is a well trained vocalist in general, but I think her strongest aspect is her senses of time and rhythm, and her understanding the use of vocal percussive dynamics. That makes her an integral part of the ensemble. She doesn't often sing over top of the music, she's immeshed in it. Check out Corallium Live at Shibuya Eggman.

    You should know us by now, right? 🤭🤣
    The solo section is brilliant in my opinion and also fits perfectly with the social media theme with Saiki's words/announcements. "Focus on buzz"(/bass) -> Misa activates the groove mode ... "Wan't more of a shock?" -> Minchozilla rises. And both solos short and snappy like posts on social media. I don't want to say evanescent, because they're too good for that, but both certainly have solos that are more memorable (imo), and yet they are always impressive/shocking again when you hear them. Just like some posts that you find again years later and have forgotten about. 😏 I don't know if that was intentional when they wrote it but I could very well imagine it. Brain-Maids feat. MC Saiki... (don't worry, I'll put myself in the 'shame on you' corner for that one 😇)

    Japanese is made up of syllables that are all the same length, and it doesn't stress any of them, so it naturally has a very staccato sound. I've been told Japanese rappers actually emulate western language prosody by unnaturally altering tempo, stretching syllables, that sort of thing. I think you can hear that a bit during Saiki's rap section, although it might be hard to recognize without some familiarity with Japanese or a very perceptive ear...

    Some believe that Hunky Dory comes from American sailors who found themselves in the Japanese city of Yokohama. One of the streets in Yokohama is named Honchodori, and in the mid-nineteenth century, it was lined with bars and brothels. Thus one can easily think that after crossing the Pacific, sailors would have a "Honchodori" time a couple of centuries ago.

    This was the second single from their EP Unleash (well, if we don't count Sense, Hibana and Coralium that came out as a single before, since Sense was the opening of an anime), and when the video and song came out, what stike me at the first listen, is that if you put it just after listening to Thrill, you get a great way to see how much they grew.
    Whether it's Kanami who is wild during a good part of the song, Misa and her double bass solo, Akane who hits harder and harder, Saiki who goes fast and raps and the confidence of Miku both in her guitar playing and her harmonies or that final note on “love” that I always look forward to each time I listen to it.

    I liked this song when the EP came out but when I heard it live it was the one that ascended more than any of the others into my favorites. Such a rocking vibe (drive by those rollicking drums).

    Never heard the words "Hunky Dory" being used? It is the title of one of David Bowie's best albums, from 1971. And, in (almost) 6 degrees of separation mode, I'd have to add that it was one Bowie album not produced by Tony Visconti...who produced Band-Maid's "The dragon cries" and turned up at their NY gig a year or two ago with his 12 string Zemaitis, one of the first made and which he'd purchased accompanied by George Harrison of The Beatles, who had one made for him too. There's film of Kanami having a shred on it though she couldn't use it for the gig as she'd never tried one before.

    I saw them play this in November of ‘22. Before the show, this was one of my least anticipated songs on the (stacked) set list. Not a bad song by any stretch, but wasn’t as excited for this as I was for almost all the others. But when this song started, I was one of the first to start bouncing and first chanting. This song got the crowd bouncing. The wood floor was bouncing like a trampoline. One of my favorites from the night. Too bad it doesn’t have a live video, because it’s so much better in a live setting. This song brings out the crowd energy for sure.

    Japanese origin - "Honcho-dori" was the "Main Street" in Yokohama (12 km from Yokohama Arena). Story say the American sailors, during the late 1800, were directed to follow this road back to the ship. Therefore, "easy street" to get back to the ship after liberty. Most likely pronounced by the sailors as "Hunky Dory," Po! 🦍🍌

    NittPicc, let me start by saying that I love your Band-Maid reaction videos and I usually hit the like button before I even watch them. I also think you are in the top 5 when it comes to Band-Maid regular reactors. With that being said, the issue I'm starting to see is a pattern in your videos where you overlook Miku. I'm sure it is unintentional and I get the fact that your a musician, that you are hyper focused on what Saiki, Kanami, Misa, and Akane are doing and maybe forget to mention what Miku is doing in the song, but do you have any idea how integral Miku Kobato is to this band? I know you have done a reaction to the Saiki documentary so I was wondering if, in the near future, you could do a reaction video to Ohrenje's 3 part documentary series on Miku and throw some love to our little pigeon. I think she deserves a little bit of the spotlight don't you? ✌

    • @NittPicc
      @NittPicc  6 месяцев назад +1

      It’s not that I’m trying to ignore her per say. My Miku appreciation goes deep, but it just isn’t here on RUclips. She’s the leader and the glue that creates such an incredible band/bond.
      I guess I don’t verbalize it because I feel like it’s implied like, “wow all these great musicians doing amazing things. Amazing job, Miku!”
      The reactions to the other documentaries are coming, but Ohrenje is redoing (some or all) of them and he suggested I save Mss Kobato’s for last. I want to respect his wishes. ☺️

    Gotten around to "Moratorium" yet? With the creative use of "don't dilly-dally". It's like Kobato got hold of a 1950's English phrase-book, and is making good use of it. :)

    The word “hunky-dory” actually has a Japanese origin. In the early days of the post-war occupation of Japan, US service personnel would often spend their off-duty hours in the Hankyuu Dori district (dori means road) where a lot of the good bars, shops and restaurants were concentrated.
    So with use, the name became associated with having a good time, it morphed into hunky-dory, and migrated back to America.

  • @cbus4126
    @cbus4126 6 месяцев назад

    "Hunk dory day"-other BM songs throw in slang from the 50s Era too. Maybe from US occupation of Japan-Miku probably grew up hearing it in the background of her life.
    And Saiki is now a Japanese rap goddess ; ) On top of being the QUEEN OF MAIDS.

    I LOVED this Reaction vid!!! In answer to Russell Crowe....YES!!! I was entertained...lol So I watched this 3 times and just laughed so hard, really at just how honest your reaction was....and I appreciated that and yes laughed heartily 🤣 But to the matter at hand.....So Influencer I'll admit caught me off guard when it came out and I initially didn't know what to make of it, but when I was able to read the lyrics I saw it was brilliant. I believe the lyrics are Miku but from an idea from Saiki who wanted to do a song about social media. The clincher was seeing the Maid's perform Influencer live at August Hall in 2022 it was phenomenal....I've loved it ever since 😎👍

    "I could do that" - You ABSOLUTELY could. The MISA who existed before the Pandemic was very good. The bassist who emerged afterwards is otherworldly. The band would meet over zoom to practice, would challenge each other, and improved a huge amount. So if you took out that bass, played for an hour in the morning, and an hour at night, day after day after day, you could be that good, too. Most people don't have the time in their lives, and don't have the commitment, to make it happen. There's NOTHING wrong with that. Not putting yourself through that grind is perfectly valid. But if you decided you wanted it badly enough, you could make it happen.
