KANAMI has stated that she uses her guitar as an additional singer to the band. This song shows that very well. I would love to know what goes on in that pretty little head of hers to come up with all of these great riffs.

As someone who has loved progressive rock all my life I have watched Band Maids journey into more and more progressive sound. And they are IMO cultivating new ground simply because of their ability to combine so many different styles.

Only Band-Maid. Considering to me, the 7 most hated words in the modern era are: "Social Influencer" , "Reality TV" and: "Without Further Ado", Band-Maid, of course, makes my heart glow with love for these talented artists over, and over, and over again.

Misa, Miku and Kanami kill it but this is a Akane and Saiki showcase for me. Everyone better practice yelling Hunky Dorey Day. Plus Miku snuck in a reference to her poker playing with Hold'em and Bluffing in same line. I caught that Miku 😁

I initially thought it was good to ok. Now after listening a couple more times I kinda love it. Also, I dunno, thanks for being really good at what you do, Champ.
one of the best things about Band-Maid is they all seem to have fun but they also don't try to outshine each other
I suspect the key to getting what MISA's doing on the bridge is to take it as all one piece, not two as people (understandably) keep hearing it - and it's not even so much a solo _per se_ as a call-and-response between MISA and the vocalists. Which as Champ notes, is also a set-up to transition into the guitar solo.
I love how confident Miku seems. And man--that sustain! ... I agree with what you said in the Gaijin review. It's like an amalgam of everything that makes Band-Maid Band-Maid.

"Hunky Dory Day" is an allusion to an old album by David Bowie. The video was filmed at Inada Stone Quarry (Inada White Granite) in Kasama City, Ibaraki Prefecture...about 60km north of Tokyo.
Great reaction and breakdown as always. BAND-MAID keeps elevating their creativity level to new heights. Also, did you notice the slights changes to the Maids outfits... another new level of creativity.
This is why I love this channel......Champ opens my ears...more, so now I have so many more things to listen to. This song is climbing up my chart FAST! It just keeps getting better with every listen.
The first half of Misa's solo reminded me of F Chopper Koga. That's a compliment BTW.
As always, I love your analysis. This song just calls for a deep analysis. Any reaction channel that doesn't do this is a waste of time. How about that bridge. Vocals - bass - vocals/drums - bass - guitar solo. There is so much in this song! Thank you Champ.

I have listened to this song a lot and I keep hearing extra bits that I missed each time, Band-Maid packs so much into one song it's impossible to get it all in one or two listens.
Soon I'll hear Influencer LIVE and "surrender love" to the Maids. That's beyond a Hunky Dory Day! Thx, Champ!
Dammit!!!. Akane's opening roll reminds me of a song from a hair metal band from the late 80's early 90's. I LOVE this band. MISA is coming the rhythm section again.
Akane's fill during MISA's solo was flat out AWESOME.

Did Saiki even breathe? The combination of both of their voices makes the sound much more full. And the first verse is very scrambled. Then it mellows as it goes.
Wow! That song rocks and it is so intricate at the same time. The short bass solos are so intriguing. This is perfection that only musical musicians can produce. I ❤️ Band/Maid and I get to see them live in Seattle on 10/12..I can’t wait!
Thx for the analysis. To me, this was an OK song for them at first listen, interesting but strange and needing more listens. Now after a few tens of listens of the lossless, it's in my top ten of their songs and I still feel like I have things I could discover in this. Great song, I'm now waiting for a live version.

There is something in this song that I personally love so much about these beautiful girls, that is, not being afraid to play whatever they want.
In an interview with a Japanese magazine about this song and the EP album, Miku answered, "Kanami creates the foundation for the songs, but I think the stress from the COVID-19 disaster was tremendous." Saiki said, "I didn't say anything at the time, but later on, when I said, 'You don't always put in a guitar solo like this,' Kanami said, 'It's true~ I was feeling uneasy♡'. It seems that I have been playing more and more.
This is my favorite Band Maid song yet. They can do everything and nothing wrong.
It's a song that required more than one listening from me, but now each time I have listened to it the more I found something else I liked about it.

So just FYI Saiki is not rapping!!!! She's talking but speaking fast!!! I lived in Japan for 5 years and Japanese when they start speaking fast it is a very "sing-songy" language and I understand how it can sound like rapping to the "western" ear. Otherwise a GR8 reaction Champ!!!! 🤘🔥🤘🔥🤘🔥🤘Also Saiki's voice has gotten stronger since her vocal cord surgery a few years back!!
Nice to see them on the set of every other 70s Doctor Who episode (that's for the old nerds like me). This is Akane's song for me. Akane loves triplets. Well, they all do, honestly. But Akane loves to vary her speeds as well, and in this one she's dropping the slow triplets across multiple beats in these random spots. MISA's solo is every bit as much Akane an solo behind her. Akane's finding a way to go OFF while still supporting what MISA's doing. Then she throws me for a loop coming back in from the quiet chorus (call back to Freedom anyone?) with... I dont' know how to describe it. A "fast half-time?" F man. Unreal player. I will say I'd REALLY like to take that high pass filter away from Kanami so her guitar could sound like a guitar again.

The lyrics were cracking me up. Really a shot across the bow for many "Influencers". At least Ive never heard Champ say "Honky Dory" lol
I was a little disappointed with Endless World, but Unseen and Influencer are s-tier for me ;) Really amazing seeing their evolution blossom into one of the most unique sounding bands Ive heard.
So...to summarise....Champ likes MISA's solo, he just doesn't like the notes. 🤔 🤣
This is one of my favorite SAIKI and MIKU vocal performances ever. KANAMI and MIKU guitar sinergy...brilliant, but yet again...AKANE and MISA rhythm section sends this into the stratosphere IMO. 🎀🕊

I think next April fools were getting the maids in casual clothes so saiki can have some more fun rapping. Think like limp bizkit linkin park style. She seems to be enjoying herself so much in that style. If not all the maids maybe just a saiki Misa project 🤔
Kanami is such a mastermind. Akane a powerhouse. Misa’s double solo is amazing and Saiki and Miku killing it on vocals! Truly fantastic band. 🤘 🎸 🥁

Akane's drumming is my favorite part in this song, the song is super catchy, but Kanami's shredding style with jumps and scales I think have been used a few times already. I also get the feeling that the intro is similar to without holding back. I love Kanami's riffs in this than the solo, and goes with Misa's in my personal opinion.
I can see why you love this song though, it has a little k-pop flavour every now and then.
I would expect BM to repeat things on occasion. It's fine by me...After all,even Michelangelo sculpted more than one version of the Pieta... Genius is genius !
This song is amazing and like normal Band-Maid never disappoints. I can't wait to hear your feedback on the rest of the album.
Of course the whole album is great. From now on is probably my favorite instrumental song by them now. Influencer and Balance are my favorite songs on this album.

I really enjoy watching your breakdowns of Band-Maid's songs. There's a lot to unpack in each song, especially songs like this and Sense, and your explanations help me enjoy and appreciate their music even more than I already do. Fell in love with this song on the first listen the other day, and you pointing out the intricacies (like Miku's vocals in the first part) makes it even better for subsequent listens. Keep it up, dude!

It freaking Blows my Brain away how much Kanami has grown as a Player and a Composer since even 2017.
Nice. I agree with pretty much everything you say. My only complaint is that the vocals dominated the mix a bit too much in the first half. Even MISA had less presence than usual at the start. They didn't completely lose Kanami in the mix during the verses but I still shifted the balance a little to the right and it sounded better. After that, this got into my top 25% Band Maid. Maybe higher after I listen more. I bet live with a raw mix and feel this is gonna be a smoker. It'll give Miku a workout.

Think Santana. Even Kanami's frantic playing at the beginning is very reminiscent of his lines. Then think of latin rhythms, the groove of the song. even melodies. I actually think this is Kanami's Santana-song. There's also this ceeky "alalalala" by Miku that's ever so common in latin-american music.
Hi Champ, great reaction. I love your breakdown of all the parts. I also feel the progressiveness of this song, and even more on other songs from the EP Unleash. Saiki long note, then Miku one octave over Saiki for the same length, epic. Miku can reach very high notes, higher than Saiki, when they sing together they do amazing things. This is a great song. Have you done the instrumental "from now on"?
Champ does not hate Misa and Kanami, he just likes Lovebites more. Haha. Your a good sport champ. Always enjoy your analysis
FYI Miku often doubles Saiki an octave above - eg in "Different" at 0:30 in the second part of the verse. While they both have an excellent range, Saiki's is much lower than Miku's.
Excellent review and helpful to point out things I missed. This one will need several listens - like all really good prog rock.
Miku, with her falsetto, has a 3+ octave range. Saiki is more of a contralto. Miku can cover from alto to soprano.
For some reason this reminds me of the movie "the devils violinist"
This is a good analysis, but the actual best part of the song is the way Miku says "Everybody look" on the left channel the first time.

This is a great song. So, some thought this was progy? Have to agree with Champ, I don't hear it. It's just a great rock song. It's just quirky enough to seem sarcastic. I also really enjoyed the almost chanty-like chorus, and as other have said, Akane's parts were quite simply perfect. The song was done just right.

I don't know that they are calling out anyone in particular...they're just saying that presenting yourself on social media can be oppressive.
As much as I like the lyrics, especially the final "Surrender love . . ." which is what being influenced is all about, this would be a great listen without the vocals. We can hear the instruments even better that way. I'm not a fan of Sense or Corallium/Hibana, but I like this song.

There is so much I enjoy about the song, I just do not enjoy rapp vocals and Saiki sin't an exception to that. I enjoy the rest of the song enough that its probably my second favroite song on the EP. My only critique of the EP is that I wish there was a bit more diversity on it, hoping that comes with the next LP.
It is a f@cking shame that Champ no longer is able to do reactions due to the exgencies of life. He is so incredibly good at analysis. We lose.

Hmm... I don't think any Japanese speaker would associate "hunky dory" in that way. And if you meant "hokai (hōkai/houkai)" instead of "honkai," it may be close to the meaning of "decaying," but it's so far from the pronunciation of "hunky." If it's "hankai," it means something like "half-destroyed/partially damaged."
Even if it is one of the above, the combination with "dori (dōri/douri)" is an unfamiliar expression in Japanese (well, Miku is good at coining words, but that's another story😅) Thanks
