A smile and a tear while listening to BAND-MAID is a sure sign of a Maidiac! I've heard a lot of great music in my 62 years but no other band has affected me like BAND-MAID., my favourite artist of all time. 🤘✌

I'm only 60 but Sokoninaru & Gacharic Spin made me as happy in finding in them something that in the west has lost its way. 88Kasyo Junrei & Heilung also affected me powerfully but in different ways & Otoboke Beaver took me back to the 70s with an aggression most punk thesedays can't compete with.

I chased every opportunity to see bands like MINOR THREAT, BLACK FLAG, MDC, and BAD BRAINS in tiny clubs in San Francisco, so I was thrilled when I discovered OTOBOKE BEAVER about five years and saw they were keeping the flame alive. I finally saw OTOBOKE BEAVER live last night. I can't remember when I last had so much fun. They put on a great show and created a truly unique experience.

Oh, I've cried at the lyrics to this song quite a few times before. At my lowest point, when I doubted what I was doing with my life, and I wonder whether I should just stop dreaming, face reality and live to survive, THIS song came to me and told me what I needed to hear. Even until today, the lines that begins with "Destiny of Soul where are you?" sometimes puts me to tears, reminding me that all of us have a destiny, and even if it's so far away and I can't no longer hear it or see it, it is there. Sometimes we just have to strain ourselves to hear it once again... Sigh, I'm in tears now....
This is the first time I've ever said this, but the ones who saved me from despair and gave me hope again were really Band-Maid....... I actually owe Miku my soul....

I'm an old guy in my seventies who has been marvelling at Band-Maid and their songs from the very start. And yet I have to echo Bella's words about female rock... finally I have found rock that makes me happy. This is what I have always wanted from rock music - brilliant musicianship, pounding, driving rhythms and great vocals but free of the ego, self-destructive behaviour, tortured anguish or misogyny that shaped and ruined so many great male rock bands.
Welcome to Band-Maid from a chilly Staffordshire! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and bad-ass musicians to boot. They are currently into their 11th year with the original line up.
They are so good I flew from the UK to Japan last October just to see them live. I saw four shows in nine days. They play 2+ hour sets, no support, no encores. They blew the roof of every time!
Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. The idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!

@@tasminoben686 Greetings from the UK! It is all from her name Miku Kobato. Kobato translates to "Small Pigeon". Miku in Japanese numerology is Mi = 8 and Ku = 10. This is where Miku gets her age from. She changed her name when she started Band-Maid. Before Band-Maid her name was Mika Naguchi.

"Miku" is a common female name among Japanese people.
I will explain it correctly.
In Japanese, 8='Hachi', 'Ha' (short), 10='TOH', it becomes 810='HATOH'.
'HATO' means pigeon in Japanese.
Kobato means small pigeon.
This is why Miku Kobato is an 810 year old pigeon.
Don't even think about the fact that she was 810 years old last year too.

This is their energy playing the 22nd song of a 23 song set. Great rock music the way it used to be played, performed by people who love being on stage. I'm old enough to have seen Pink Floyd in a small (400 people) venue for the old money equivalent of 60p (12/-) but I've not heard many bands that have excited me musically, and grabbed me emotionally, like this band does. And they are fun!! Remember fun
I saw Pink Floyd for the second time at an awesome show in a hall holding 250 people (Farnborough Tech , Feb 1971) after previously seeing them at a disastrous Royal Albert Hall show the previous summer. Like you BM gets me more emotional than any other band I've loved and seen before.

Band-Maid is the product of five of the best talents on the planet. Band-Maid has over 120 songs, and there's not a single song that's boring. Therefore, you cannot choose the song you want to request. However, this is just my personal preference, but you should definitely check out "Dice & Hate?" at the Lollapalooza Chicago festival.

50-something guy here, and I go to a lot of shows, so I don't admit this lightly - when I got to see the Maids, I honestly got misty when one-by-one took the stage. They're special. Rock onnn! 🤘😎👍
You're not the only one they reduce to tears, trust me. Astoundingly great band. The more you dig into their catalog, the more you'll realize just how special they are. Fans call ourselves Maidiacs while the Maids call us Masters and Princesses. They call their concerts servings. The newly minted Master said he has never been in this situation before. Shock and awe and delight are not unusual responses to their music!

I've been a rock fan in all its guises for over 50 years! I discovered this band a few weeks ago and I'm totally obsessed. They have a fantastic set of videos on their youtube channel. The official live videos are best as not only are they incredibly tight when they play together, they add in little solos and extras and of course that amazing energy. I've never seen a band enjoy themselves on stage as much as these. Also worth seeing is their Omajinai time when they have a session of fun and banter with the audience, they don't have much English, but they still make it captivating!

Saw them live last year and with all deference to Zep, Bowie, D Purp Metallica Allman Bros Bruce Petty Black Sabb etc etc. this is the BEST band I have ever seen experienced FELT.
Yes you hit on it- they mix prog, punk, thrash, speed metal, acoustic ballads

Okay, names, pronunciation, nicknames, and roles, in order that they joined the band.
Miku Kobato - mee-koo - Kuruppo, the Little Pigeon, the Little Engine Who Will - band founder, backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, rhythm guitar, principal lyricist, tireless Spokespigeon and PR machine. Wielder of weapons grade cuteness. Poker shark and horse racing fanatic. So determined to see her band succeed that she fired herself as lead singer (she decided her voice wasn't strong enough for hard rock), then went looking for a replacement. Learned to play guitar after the band was formed. Definitely eccentric, possibly insane.
Kanami Tono - kah-nah-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger. On stage, she's a savant mad riffer with a room temperature IQ and a huge crush on Saiki. In reality, she's a genius, and not just musically- she has a degree in economics with honors. A sweet, motherly woman who turns into a beast when you hand her a guitar.
Akane Hirose - ah-kah-neh - A-chan, the Gorilla - drums, sequencing, snacks, the leader the band doesn't have. What you see is what you get- a cheerful jock with a huge appetite who burns off the calories murdering her drums. Completely unflappable. Frequently snacks between songs. Has been known to sign her banana peels and throw them to the audience.
MISA - mee-sah - the Barefoot Assassin, MISA MISA MISA! - bass, booze, occasional wet work. Usually stone faced. Barely acknowledges the audience's existence. Always has a beer or a bottle of Jim Beam on her Orange amp. Originally, these were ways of coping with stage fright. These days, that's just how the assassin rolls.
Saiki Atsumi - sah-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl. Fashionista and train nerd. Regards her band mates, especially Kanami and Miku, with bemused exasperation. In total command on stage; hides behind Miku off stage (she's actually kind of shy).

Freedom (live) is another feel good tune. They have so many great songs. Try finding one you don't like. Have FUN! Band-Maids genre is Band-Maid. The break the rules constantly. (or make up new ones). there are songs where the complexity gets so full that you can go back over and over and find different things. (Corallium from Eggman is a favorite. That sentence will make sense some day! )

This is just a small sample of what Band-Maid can do. They're destined to be legends. Keep watching their live videos. They are a live act second to none. They keep that energy level going throughout their 2+ hour shows. Their live shows include a lot of audience interaction, humor, and everyone leaves with a huge grin on their face. No one in this band "phones it in", the musicianship is always spot on and boundary pushing. The two vocalists are excellent and perfect compliments to each other. The rhythm section are the most creative pairing of bassist and drummer you'll ever witness. Their lead guitar is amazing withn unknown depths of talent; although Band-Maid composes as a group, Kanami Tono chairs that committee, Bassist MISA is second in command, and Drummer Akane Hirose fills in the percussion, and Rhythm guitarist Miku Kobato and vocalist Saiki provide their thought provoking lyrics. Kanami (Mincho) is one of the most expressive guitarists I've ever come across: she speaks through her guitar. The more you experience Band-Maid the more you will expect to be astonished. They never disappoint.
Last Thanksgiving (US) I got up at 2 AM (EST) to watch their tenth anniversary tour final live stream. It was a THREE AND A HALF HOUR SHOW with never a dull moment. I'm an old guy who watched The Beatles live on television and Band-Maid is the most memorable band I have ever seen.

Welcome & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 Band-Maid is one of the best bands in our country, especially in live performance. We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. Please explore them more. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.)
Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

You are not alone in your response... I'm a guy in my 60's and Band-Maid has caused my eyes to well up many, many times. They are just special. I've seen them live three times and can't wait for the next opportunity! As a side note, Japan is packed with excellent all-female and female-fronted rock and metal bands. They get me so emotional that I got on a plane at Heathrow and flew around the world to see them. Check out the recent official live performance video of ''Don't You Tell Me'' from there ten year anniversary tour finale at Yokohama Arena Nov 26th 2023. They played a three and a half hour, 33 song tour de force with 4 MC sections. They are fabulous songwriters and musicians . There live performances are epic. Make sure you check them out when they come back here. They are due an EU/UK tour

This is excellent. You are teetering on the brink of a Rabbit Hole of epic proportions and you are unaware of it's enormity. Quite possibly ending on a runway in the months to come. There are a plethora of amazingly talented all female Japanese Rock and Metal bands. You probably haven't even seen Babymetal yet. Then there are these three girls from Mexico who are worth a listen. Miku Kobato (red flower) founded the band in 2013. She was working in a Maid Cafe and came up with the idea of a band playing "cool'" music wearing maid costumes. This is called "the Gap" in Japan meaning the difference in what you are seeing, demure maid vs what you are hearing Rock Music.
They were annually touring the UK and Europe prior to covid. I think they may be touring in the UK and Europe later this year.
They compose and produce all of their music now. Kanami, guitar, MISA bass and Akane mainly are responsible for the music, with Miku as the main lyricist. Now Saiki, vocals is working with Miku. "Domination" lyrics were written by Miku. Worth looking up, she is a very very good lyricist.

We ALL feel what you are feeling! I had the pleasure seeing them in October of 2022 in the U.S. Every song will make you smile. They bring such an amazing energy to everything they do! Another great live video is Freedom from this same concert. I think it was the song directly before Domination, and Domination was close to the end of their set. All that energy after playing over 20 songs! Enjoy the pigeon-hole!

>Miku, aka the pigeon, is as tough as cute, a true excentric, poker player, horse race amateur, the extravert founder of the band, the business women in charge. She is the backing vocal for Saiki, singing complex harmonies while playing similarly complex guitar rythms backing up Kanami the lead guitar.
>Kanami, aka Kanamincho, is the airhead genius composer of Band-Maid music and genius lead guitarist of the band. She has written a staggering number of hits among the 120+ songs of their musical catalog.
>Misa, aka the barefeet assassin (she plays her bass barefeet on stage), is a shy genius of bass. On stage she always bring a flash of whisky with her and has beer during the interludes.
>Akane, aka the Gorilla, bananas eater on stage, is the drum powerhouse, probably the happiest drummer of the world when you see her bright smile on stage. With her close friend Misa, she is forming one of the best rythm section I have ever heard.
These five ladies are genuine kind people forming a family of fellow musicians, caring for their fans, always pushing themselves to new challenges and improvment. This kind of band is a rarity.

Wonderful and fun reaction. I rediscovered Band Maid during the pandemic when I was lonely and depressed. I had forgot about them from several years earlier. I had exactly the reaction Belle had -- over and over as I worked through their catalog (over a hundred songs now). They saved my sanity, or at least my happiness. Later they actually came out with a song about just that. How they helped everyone during COVID. It's Unleash!!!!!. React to the MV, it's really cool). While a lot of acts stopped, Band Maid just shifted gears and brought themselves into our homes and hearts.

I just watched your 3 Band-Maid reactions in reverse order and I've been a Maidiac since 4/2020 and have listened to this song easily 300 times and it still gets me feeling just the same as you've expressed. You also have come across the maids at a good time as they just finished their 10 year anniversary and are getting ready for a new beginning to 10 more years with a new album, new tours and lots of new fans. I've got to see them live twice so far. The more you learn about them the more you will realize how special they are. You can watch the fan made professional documentaries with or without reacting to learn of their humble beginnings. Enjoy the ride!

I discovered them just over 2 years ago and had the same reaction as you. My first two songs were the live versions of Play and Choose Me. I recommend them, but really anything from their YT channel will be great. Their range of styles is huge. Enjoy your journey.

So I went to see them...The first concert of the tour..at Tokyo Garden Theater in Jan..Then again in Nov for the last concert of the tour at Yokohama Arena.

Love to see reaction of first timers to Band Maid. I fell in love with Band Maid after the first 30 seconds just like you guys. I thought the best of rock was years past in my youth with Rush, Van Halen, Led Zeppelin and so on. But what rock really needed is a woman’s touch! Best band on the planet….ever! You have so many songs to catch up on (‘Moratorium” or if you really want to tear up, acoustic ‘Puzzle’.) To be honest, just pick a song and you cannot go wrong.

Welcome to the wonderfull world of Band-Maid. You are not alone for feeling the way you do right now. Us Madiacs (Named by the band, Masters and Processes), have become used to being reduced to tears by many of their songs- Even some of the hardest metal heads who hear them for the first time, as their music isn't strictly metal but a mix of genres, but mainly hard rock. The music, the energy and once you get to know their individual characters, you will love them even more. They are- Miku (Red Rose/Littls Pigeon)- Band Founder/Lyrics, Second vocals/Guitar. They make my eyes squeeze out water all the time. They instantly became my favourite band of all time a couple of years ago. The thing that comes across in their music is the absolute joy they have for performing. They have a sisterly bond, and a wonderful bond with their audiences. During their 2 hour live shows, they take a couple of breaks and interact with the audience in a style that draws upon Miku's time working in a Maid Cafe in Akihabara. MIKU - “We’re not a pop idol group! Don’t judge us on how we look. We want to blow you away with our heavy rock sound.”
Interviewer: What’s the meaning of the name “BAND MAID”? Miku: I used to work at a maid cafe, and I thought “I want a band!” So it became BAND-MAID - maids in a band!
Interviewer: How did BAND-MAID come together? Did any of you know each other before joining the band? Kanami: Miku was looking for members to be in BAND-MAID. I was approached to join the band, and then I brought my friend, the drummer Akane, with me. Then, Akane brought her friend, the bassist Misa. So the instrumental performers were all gathered through connections between musicians. After that, our vocalist Saiki joined through an audition.
