    My 600-lb Life is an American reality television series that has aired on the TLC television network since 2012. Each episode follows a year in the life of morbidly obese individuals, who usually begin the episode weighing at least 600 pounds (270 kg), and documents their attempts to reduce their weight to a healthy level. Update episodes, called "Where Are They Now?", feature one or more previous patients, picking up a year or more after their original episodes aired.
    Patients are placed under the care of Iranian-American Houston surgeon Younan Nowzaradan (often referred to as simply "Dr. Now"), who first has them attempt losing weight on their own by following a strict diet, and then depending on the patient's progress may offer gastric bypass surgery or sleeve gastrectomy to further assist in weight loss.

    What makes these people think that weight-loss surgery is going to be any easier than shedding pounds the old-fashioned way, by eating less?

      this is so true

    • @asmlove32
      @asmlove32 7 месяцев назад +5

      Well the surgery will kind of force them to eat less because their stomachs are physically smaller. They can try to do it the old fashioned way but the only thing stopping them from eating more is discipline. And who’s to say they won’t crack one day and just go back to old ways? If they try that soon after the surgery there’s dire consequences.

    • @thetagreta9875

      @@asmlove32the hardest part for these people is the eating less, because they are addicted to and obsessed with food/eating. Surgery won’t change their obsession with eating

    • @zxyatiywariii8
      @zxyatiywariii8 7 месяцев назад +4

      Because the surgery can potentially do two important things:
      1. Make their stomach MUCH smaller, so if they overeat, they get sick and throw up
      2. Sometimes (this is unpredictable, because it varies just like fingerprints and arteries do) the surgical removal also removes some of the person's body's ghrelin production, so their hunger gets reduced.
      That said, I'm glad I lost weight without surgery, because it can be risky.

      I don't know about other states, but here where I live, if one spouse is the certified caregiver of the other spouse, that caregiver receives SS benefits, nearly as much as if they were working a full-time outside job. They do have to show/prove that they have been trained and certified as a primary caregiver, they cannot just walk in and say so.
      My next door neighbor, the wife, is her husband's primary caregiver, certified, so she receives benefits from SS. They aren't overweight, though; he has a degenerative spinal condition and he had to retire at an age that was too young for Social Security benefits, so he had to take SSD.
      The ginormous one is also typically on SSD (which Social Security should not be doing). They also receive SNAPS/food stamps, Medicare and Medicaid (and again, should not), they raid food banks to get free food, they buy other food from places like the Dollar stores, getting the absolute cheapest junk there is, etc.
