My 600-lb Life is an American reality television series that has aired on the TLC television network since 2012. Each episode follows a year in the life of morbidly obese individuals, who usually begin the episode weighing at least 600 pounds (270 kg), and documents their attempts to reduce their weight to a healthy level. Update episodes, called "Where Are They Now?", feature one or more previous patients, picking up a year or more after their original episodes aired.
Patients are placed under the care of Iranian-American Houston surgeon Younan Nowzaradan (often referred to as simply "Dr. Now"), who first has them attempt losing weight on their own by following a strict diet, and then depending on the patient's progress may offer gastric bypass surgery or sleeve gastrectomy to further assist in weight loss.

As someone who is caring for someone in this state, I understand why her mother and sister stepped away. The emotional, physical at times, toll it takes on the caregiver is unimaginable. My heart breaks every time they yell and scream for certain foods. To be honest, giving in to them is easier than the emotional beating. A hospice or rehabilitation center is best when they begin to weigh on your psyche and physicality. It is sad to say, but obesity is just as bad, possibly worse, than an addiction to drugs because it isn't illegal to abuse food. My prayers are for anyone else who has experienced this. 😢

I agree with most of your comments, but I'm not surprised that her mother abandoned her, considering that's how she ended up in care as a child.
I was my mum's only primary caregiver for 20 consecutive years up until the day she died 3 years ago.
Not only do I mourn the loss of her, but I also grieve for the life I gave up for her.
I am now in my 40s and feel somewhat lost, I am slightly optimistic of settling down and having the family I always wanted.
The most frustrating thing is when I tell people this, they always say, 'Why don't you go and care for others now?'
Totally disregarding that it's time I take care of myself.

Y’all keep saying she was abandoned by everyone; but a trained interventionist, because she has an addiction, would tell any family that at some point, you have to practice tough love and let that addict go. She lost 12 pounds in a YEAR! Did not follow Dr. Nows’ plan. Her sister and friend took time out of THEIR LIVES to drive her and with her, to Texas. Her addiction has got to be expensive. Who pays for all that food? She must fight this alone. It’s not cruel. It’s her path to recovery.

I got to 250 as a 5’9” woman and I could barely walk or breathe. I truly sympathize with those struggling with weight. My breaking point was trying to hail a cab in nyc to my corner store. It was at the corner of the damn block!! I walked the Brooklyn bridge every night for two months and lost 60 lbs. mind you I was naturally and even pregnant at 123lbs. I’m getting big again due to 3 herniated discs. Try not to judge those as you don’t know the battles they are working on.

Even if she ate 1500 or one quarter of what she usually ate, she would have still lost a great deal of weight. It is much easier to imagine that instead of eating 4 hamburgers, she only gets one. Food addiction is so woefully misunderstood. Every non-addict thinks they know, but they don't. What so many people, including Dr. Now, don't understand about food addiction, is that it takes everything in you to battle one urge at a time. And urges happen so frequently throughout the day, it might as well be continuous. It's exhausting, terrifying, and painful to fight this thing when everything in you screams to eat and when it's literally the only thing you have that makes you feel any kind of good, the only way you can access enough dopemine to keep going. Her 12lb and 8lb losses were still wins and evidence of the fact that she really did fight and win some battles. She really was trying. It's so frustrating to give everything to win so little then be told it's not good enough, instead of being at least acknowledged for genuinely trying. There is a science behind why food has such a death grip on the mind and body of an addict. It's not just in our heads. Unfortunately, only scientists and food addicts get it. God bless this girl. I'm praying she gets all the support she needs to heal in heart, mind and body.

Im super surprised her leg never leaked lymph fluids. I see many patients who have edema and cellulitis and this alone causes fluid to leak. People dont get it either. Surgery alone wont work for the long haul. Its a lifestyle change. But the doctor was tripping even still considering her being she had respiratory failure

Why cant they take the mass off the leg? I would think it would be incredibly helpful with mobility. She seemed so sweet and dedicated, for everyone to just peace out at the end. I hope she continues her journey.

They won't remove the lymphedema mass on her leg until she's lost a considerable amount of weight. The more adipose (fat) tissue that's in the mass the higher risk for bleeding during surgery. Also if she was to continue gaining weight postoperatively the mass will just come back. I hope she was successful in her weight loss journey she was one of the sweetest most likeable person on that show.

I can't remember which specific episode it was, Dr. Now explains that fat doesn't heal as well as skin. It helps with the surgery if he has extra skin to work with, and weight loss helps the blood vessels shrink.

I wish we. Could pick one person that we can help and help them because it really breaks my heart for her to be just 26 years old and that big and my son is 26 years old and cares about not eating meat. My heart goes out to her, and she will forever be in my mind.
