We are friends with Conway’s daughters, Kathy & Joni, who loved their Daddy dearly. He was wonderful to his family and loved and respected his fans. Both his daughters still miss their daddy terribly and they’re so down to earth and approachable, although they have had many health problems and also lost their dear momma to cancer a couple of years ago. A beautiful, giving family for sure!
Sounds like a great story, but Elvis never opened a show for Conway Twitty. As a matter of fact, it was after Conway heard Elvis Presley's recording of the song Mystery Train that he started writing rock and roll music. Elvis was a big influence on Conway who originally tried to sound like Elvis. Elvis had been doing his thing for nearly 2 years when Conway first took to the stage. I am not trying to sound disrespectful to your story, but if you do your research, you will find that the two never met face to face. They were both great entertainers in their respective fields.
When my dad came home from his military stint, he was in an all night greasy spoon diner used by truckers. (Dad went over in the army during WWII, and came home in the “new branch”, the Air Force during the Korean War.) He said a young punk truck driver came in around 2:00am. This was before they put a limit on the number of hours a trucker could drive, and these diners were few and far between. When the young man with the light brown, almost blond hair, asked the waitress about his tip, she said he had to sing. Apparently, he had been in that diner in southern Missouri many times. He said he would only sing if all the folks there sang with him. They all sang “Peace in the Valley”. And, that’s the night my dad sang with Elvis. Dad said he was a nice and respectful young man. And, all the folks in that diner that night were happy he chose a gospel song.
This was our mother's favorite song, she could not get enough of Conway Twitty. My 3 brothers and I used to run around the house singing "Hello Lois, how are you doing.......", whenever this song came on. She got no rest.
Great reaction to Conway Twitty. That was his stage name. Some other great songs by him are "It's Only Make Believe", "Linda on My Mind", "Don't Cry Joni", "Don't Take It Away", "I'd Love to Lay You Down", "Tight Fittin' Jeans", “Julia”, "Slow Hand", and "The Clown". Get ready because a lot of them are pretty spicy.
His drummer, Porkchop, brought him on stage with that line. He always started his shows from back-stage. Here's an intro: ruclips.net/video/fRwtOZjNVhM/видео.html
My mom's absolute favorite! I grew up listening to Conway with a little Charley Pride and Charlie Rich thrown in! You should look into Conway and Loretta Lynn duets. They had several, my favorite one is Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man.
A member of Cimarrons suggested Don Seat as a manager for Jenkins, and Seat indicated to Jenkins that he needed a name with star quality. Jenkins then adopted a stage name in 1957. In The Billboard Book of Number One Hits, Fred Bronson states that the singer named himself after two towns on a map; Conway, Arkansas, and Twitty, Texas, and chose the name Conway Twitty.
So happy to see you finally get to listening to Conway Twitty. He is number 2 behind George Strait all time with number 1 hits in country music history. He has a great catalog and many women back in the day would have considered him in the PDC while I was in the radio business. I hope you look for more Conway Twitty hits.
Harold Lloyd Jenkins, born in Friars Point, MS, otherwise known as Conway Twitty, was in rock and roll when he had his best selling record, "It's Only Make Believe"
Harold Jenkins ---> AKA Conway Twitty ... He's one of them all-time club members (PDC), darn near a founder!!!! : ) His voice got better and better as he aged!!! Be Safe
I live down the road from Nashville and when Conway died there were signs all down the highways and in front of stores that simply said Goodbye Darling. It was a sad heartbreaking day for country music. He was such a sweetheart !!! ❤️💔🎶❤️
“Major bottom lip poke out.” Hahaha, I love it!! I’m gonna use that one on the grandkids if you don’t mind. ❤👍👍👍😁 Check out his pantry dropper “It’s Only Make Believe”. His first Number 1 hit. You’ll love it.
I saw him in the 60's in the beginning of his career. The local radio station was doing an outdoor show on the football field at my high school. He was so young and had soot black hair. And handsome. Lol
I love him and his music. Goodbye time is one of the greats. My oldest Grandbaby would stop crying as soon as he said, Hello Darlin. Maybe it'll work for your little one ❤
In the Country genre, Conway's second only to King George and is in the Top 5 across all genres with 40+ #1 songs. Had he not passed so tragically early, he might've even surpassed ole George. Perhaps give a listen to his very first #1 single, "It's Only Make Believe". ✌😎
My grandpappy came over from the old country and discovered Conway. Since I was born all I heard and watched was Conway. I miss my granddaddy very much. Conway will always have a place in my heart just for that very reason.
What a coincidence. I saw his grandson last night in concert with Loretta Lynn's granddaughter. I loved the stories they would share about their grandparents.
Conway Twitty was one of a kind in music. Unique voice and had some great story telling songs. This is why classic country is so amazing because of singers like Conway that put their heart and soul into singing.
Saw Conway in concert and he was amazing comes on stage and starts song without even talking to audience Hello darlin just make you melt. Sang one song after another and voice is just like radio. He died early nineties from an abdominal aneurysm in Missouri
The tone in his voice, that you said wasn't a screech, but you couldn't decide what it was, is called a "cry". It's fairly common in Country music. I'm so glad you liked him---and I love that you wanted him to be given another chance! ❤️
I was only 9/10 yrs old when this song came out. But I knew Conway was singing to me & all the other ladies. His voice....didn't matter how old you were, female's all over the world loved Conway Twitty. He wrote this song. Like others have said, he's the best friend a song ever had. I still have the album called "The High Priest of Country Music" Love it when he says, "Hello Darlin." Love it even more when he sings with Loretta Lynn. People who don't listen to these Classic Country songs with the Legends just don't know what they're missing.
I discovered Conway Twitty when I was serving during basic training in the Air Force, they were playing his music at the bowling center near my barracks and I loved it. I also love your responses to his singing and your general personality!!!
Look at you appreciating all the subtleties that make Conways music so special and that why I like this video. I’m a 35yo male and this is the country I grew up with. I love and appreciate all genres. Music transcends everything. 💜
The LEGEND that Conway Twitty!!!! Britt !!!!!! Conway is fabulous live. PLEASE do his live version of Goodbye Time . He preformed it at Living LEGEND Awards. Great reaction!
To me, personally, I think Conway has one of the top 5 male vocals of ALL-TIME!! Right there with Greats like Steve "THE Voice" Perry, Elvis, and a couple others. Point being, if you get s chance to listen to a song like "You're only make believe" which shows his true range and technique. Just if you getta chance, check it out. You'll definitely enjoy. Ok, God bless, and have a wonderful holiday season.
You should react to live version of Goodbye Time. This was done not to long before he had an abdominal aneurysm right after a concert. He had 50 consecutive # one hits.
How does he sing so good without hardly opening his mouth and seemingly gritting his teeth through half the song. I mean I'm not a singer so dont understand that technique. This was a major hit when I was in junior high and played on the radio over and over and over again.
I love the duo of Conway and Loretta Lynn! Country duos were very common and those two were my favorite! "After the Fire is Gone" is my favorite of the duo!
I grew up listening to Conway cause my mom was a huge fan. Anytime he came on the radio, she’s exclaim “whoo, my maaaaan!” And my little brother would tell her “mommy, what about my dad?!” Good times
I always liked the way his voice goes from smooth then gets a bit "raspy". Just a bit. I didn't know until a couple years ago that has a name. "Vocal Fry". Well, Conway did that great! Always enjoy watching with you. Love your comments.
CONWAY TWITTY WAS A STAGE NAME. Harold Lloyd Jenkins was his real name...but the music industry said NOPE! He randomly picked 2 cities from the map and put them together. Named from CONWAY, ARKANSAS and TWITTY, TEXAS, Harold Jenkins became professionally known as CONWAY TWITTY.
You are BY FAR my favorite "First Time Reaction" person on youtube and subscribed to your channel. You are so genuine and I can tell you have a great ear for how country singer use their vocals to trigger emotions and tell a story. I would gave anything to have you do a video of Vern Gosdin do his live rendition of "Do you believe me now" as posted on Buddy Cannon's youtube channel - simply amazing!! BTW - you have an amazing voice yourself!! Keep up the great work!! Your newest fan...
I was picking my daughter up from a 4-H meeting. One of the girls who came out, was wearing her 4-H jacket. The name on it was Skeeter Davis. I did a double & triple take. Skeeter Davis was one of my favorite country singers.
One of my favorite songs of all time. For a real treat, watch the video of Scotty Mccreery singing this at the Grand Old Opry. It is rare that a cover is as good as the original, but Scotty hits it out of the park.
Hi Britt. Conway did several really good duets with Loretta Lynn. Are you familiar with the play/movie Bye Bye Birdie?? In the story of the movie a popular singer is drafted into the army, and his fans are besides themselves. The draft story is taken from what happened to Elvis. The characters name is a tribute to another very popular singer of the time. That characters name is Conrad Birdie. Hmmmmm Conway Twitty and Conrad Birdie. LOL. Stay safe and well Sweety and keep being happy and adorable.
I grew up waking up to my parents making coffee and bacon and playing Conway so loud! Good times. For a happy one listen to baby's got her blue jeans on
Couple of interesting facts: Conway Twitty's real name is Harold Jenkins. He adopted his stage name after spotting two interesting names on a map, Conway, Arkansas and Twitty, Texas. My parents' first date was to a Conway Twitty concert in our small southern town and the opening act was a new guy in town, Elvis Presley!
That's so cool.
How unfortunate conway let a pedophile open for him if that's true.

super cool. I hope it was a good show.
Man I love Conway twitty, I wish he was talked about more
He was called the high Priest of country & The best friend a song ever had
This was our mother's favorite song, she could not get enough of Conway Twitty. My 3 brothers and I used to run around the house singing "Hello Lois, how are you doing.......", whenever this song came on. She got no rest.

His real name is Harold Lloyd Jenkins
Add one more...Rocky Top!!!!
I once heard a radio DJ call Conway "The best friend a song ever had". The 1st concert I went to was Conway and Ronnie McDowell back in 1981/82. 👍👍
Ronnie McDowell is really cool, too!!
Yes , definitely another one to react to is Ronnie Mcdowoll.
Also Loretta Lynn and Conway aswell.
I envy you, I was too young to ever see him live. The man was a legend
He has that authentic legendary pillow voice. 👍

Conway was one of the greats!! Loved his music!
Conway Arkansas and Twitty Texas' favorite son. Women swooned over him and threw their panties on stage. True!
Conway's real name is Harold Lloyd Jenkins. He came up with his stage name of Conway Twitty from Conway Arkansas and Twitty TX.
I heard on the Ralf Emory show, He came up with the name Conway Twitty from a truck passing his buss from the Conway Freight Co. In Twitty TX.
Amazing voice. Singer/songwriter legend. Grew up with my parents playing his songs. Thanks for the great reaction 👍
An announcer once said that Conway was "the best friend a song ever had"

So glad you had the opportunity to hear this. There will never be another Conway Twitty.
“Major bottom lip poke out.” Hahaha, I love it!! I’m gonna use that one on the grandkids if you don’t mind. ❤👍👍👍😁
Check out his pantry dropper “It’s Only Make Believe”. His first Number 1 hit. You’ll love it.
He wasn't the panty dropper. He was the panty stopper. Women quit wearing underwear because of him
@@davidryan834
Alright, so we have Conway to thank!! Who knew?? 😁👍👌
@@davidryan834 To my understanding both Conway and Elvis would have panties on the stage from women throwing them onto the stage!!
I saw him in the 60's in the beginning of his career. The local radio station was doing an outdoor show on the football field at my high school. He was so young and had soot black hair. And handsome. Lol
Conway and Loretta Lynn sang amazing duets! Great reaction Britt, thank you.
I love him and his music. Goodbye time is one of the greats. My oldest Grandbaby would stop crying as soon as he said, Hello Darlin. Maybe it'll work for your little one ❤

The greatest love song writer and singer ever.
True country!!! And Blake Sheltons all time favorite artist

That "sutleness" is a Southern twangish drawl.

Smoooooth! That growl...OMG!
There's a performance of his song That's My Job where he's almost crying. It's an awesome performance where he was really feeling the song.
It’s all in that growl. Conway was the man.
Happy birthday darlin is another one along these lines by Conway
how is my girl from RUclips great reaction 🤪 best regards from Uruguay
Conway is huge. over 40 NO1 country hits [I think] And Conway and the true queen of country Loretta Lynn were unstoppable with hits and Grammy's.
He used to be in rock before he moved into country. His style was reminiscent of Elvis.
You can experience it with his song "It's Only Make Believe".
You'll never know the joy of listening to this on an old monaural tube type AM radio in a car on a starry night. Halcyon days.

A cousin of mine had the biggest crush on Conway. She even went to his funeral and they played this song at her funeral
Oh Conway!!! Have a Great Day!! That sound is a "Twang".....lol.....
She eventually got it (or in my mind) when she said yodel, but twang is an acceptable answer too!
Great review you are nothing short of beautiful. Keep doing what you do.

His 43rd released album was simply called "Mr. T".
Another song where the singer is singing about being there for a lost love is "Before the Next Tear Drop Falls" by Freddy Fender. Check it out.
Hi Britt. Conway did several really good duets with Loretta Lynn. Are you familiar with the play/movie Bye Bye Birdie?? If you ever watched Family Guy, randomly the show would cut away to this performance lmfao.
My Mom LOVED her some Conway
He was a rocker in the 50's , was a real person, nice guy.
I grew up waking up to my parents making coffee and bacon and playing Conway so loud! Good times. For a happy one listen to baby's got her blue jeans on
At one time Conway was President of The Club and a #1 hit making machine.
Oh I have this on my "guilty pleasures" playlist. My dad loved this song and it reminds me of him
Fifteen years ago is a great one also,
Couple of interesting facts: Conway Twitty's real name is Harold Jenkins. He adopted his stage name after spotting two interesting names on a map, Conway, Arkansas and Twitty, Texas. They were the best of friends and their songs together show that special bond.
The vocal break is very evocative of the sad emotion the words express.
The man the myth the legend mr Conway Twitty
I had the beginning of this song as a ringtone once upon a time and loved it every time I heard his Hello darling…”
No Britt if you truly love her, you will never do her wrong! Sometimes people get caught up in bad circumstances.
Conway know what was in a woman's heart ❤️ 💙
