    I'm so happy that we are increasing our presence in Costa Rica. My family migrated to CR in the 70's where I grew up (16 yrs) on the black Caribbean side of the county, where blacks ruled in those days, no racism there, and it was a very tight, proud community of educated and entrepreneurial people. Unlike where this sister lives, the “Euro-wannabe” side of the country (no offense intended), the folks where I grew up were extremely warm, friendly and familiar. We were the only "black" expats at the time, but very fortunate to blend in, learning the languages (Spanish and Patua) and growing up with the security of everyone looking out for us and establishing lifelong relationships. I moved back to California in the late 80’s after graduating from University but still consider CR my home. Hope to see you next time I go back to visit!

      I always say America is so huge, yet we cannot carve out a place for ourselves. I see Chicago, where all the great music s came from, the motown family,s we should have made a beautiful l home for the black people, because at the end of the day all the countries will still hate us. There is a lot of crime in Costa Rico, this lady does not mention it, she lives in an are euro area so she is not in Limon where the black people who were brought there as slaves from Jamaica live. There is a white blogger who says crime is very bad, but it is not reported because they do not want toscare the tourist. Which is true. I don't see the white Americans with the blacks having a bear in a pub or chatting, so there is still racism
      When we flood all these places, there will be resentment. One white blogger says the Costa Ricans don't like the Gringos mea ing the whites because there are loud an obnoxious, now if they don't like the whites who give them jobs why would they care about us. I think they are still treated uch better in America, than any foreign country. Time will tell

      What is it like in Spain? Is it affordable for those who make about $30,000a year but not at the age of retirement? What jobs are available? Sorry for so many questions but I’ve always wanted to either live in Costa Rica or Spain but haven’t decided and I still need to visit both. I don’t know Spanish well… very little in fact. I had one Spanish teacher from Mexico who went to CR and she said they are more patient with you when it comes to learning the language what about Spain? Are they the same when it comes to someone learning Spanish?

    • @valeriebickford3329
      @valeriebickford3329 2 года назад +5

      @@Lordreinerwolf hi there! Southern Spain is one of the most affordable places to live in Europe. I fimd it less expensive than CR. You could live here simply and elegantly like a Queen on that salary. For example, away from the tourist hotpots, café is 1 euro, not the Starbucks 4 euro. Costa Rica is great, but I prefer the embracing quality of the Spanish, especially in smaller towns. Fab apartments here can be rented for 300 - 450. The catch? You will probably have to be a digital nomad coz jobs are scarce and low paying. Each town gives free Spanish lessons all year long.
      Language should not be a problem if you're willing to do the work. My experience is that the Spanish people are warm, helpful, embracing and they talk really, really loudly (which I love) They are always happy to see you coming and stop for a chat. Again, I'm referring to non touristy areas. Spain, for me, has the best of both worlds:it's kind of "old world meets modern" Simple living, time with family, work takes a back seat to free time to enjoy life. If this is what you have in mind, then Andalucia is for you. I wish you the very best, my friend. Its a brave, bold decision, but worth a higher quality of life!!!! Suerte. Let me know how you're doing with your journey.

    • @justinphillip403
      @justinphillip403 3 года назад +24

      What is sad is that your ancestors forcibly built it. The fact that you see it as deserting and not freeing yourself is telling about who you see yourself as. Are you a global citizen or just a Black American designed by the historical contexts of their abusive relationship with the western world? Furthermore, moving abroad is about expansion of not only your experiences but your mind. You learn so much more about yourself, other human beings, nature, love, and life. Never limit yourself based on your birthplace. Well wishes.

      @@justinphillip403 Your reply was a bit aggressive & harsh don’t you think? It’s all sad and for many being American means nothing but leaving the land where our ancestors lived and died is understandably hard. I think that’s something potential immigrants around the world have to process mentally and emotionally. Also for many ADOS/Soula people leaving the US means losing access to majority of our specific people & culture. It’s a process and we really need to be gentle with each other as we process, learn, heal, find new communities, and carry the spirits of our ancestors with us to freedom. Best wishes to all of us!

Costa Rica provides a healthy environment, clean air, clean water, and healthier foods etc. Costa Rica is also very safe, I am retired military police. Unfortunately, I live in a area where other fellow home owners of means, are not of color. A majority of people of color reside on the Atlantic side of Costa Rica. There is a dark side of Costa Rica no one talks about, racism does exist, even in Costa Rica. Costa Rica recently had a former Black female Vice-President. During her time in office, she received constant hate mail. However, if you are of color, of means, you are in a higher caste system in Costa Rican society! I hope this young lady has an Attorney to conclude her real estate deal at payoff, because in the type of hand to hand transaction she explained, the Seller doesn't always turn over the property at what the buyer believe to be the end. In order to have a good outcome, the buyer have to hussle to get a lump some of money well before the payoff date to use as leverage to get the legal papers in a FORMAL LEGAL process (you cannot let the Seller know that this is your plan until you are ready to present it). The final payoff money must NOT be transferred to the Seller until Closing when you receive the closing papers (Deed/Ownership to the land)!
