Met you at the show, I really wanted your autograph so I bought your book. Good read...It was an honor shaking your hand. I still haven't washed it...
John, that’s an immature bald eagle on the beach at the end of the video. They don’t look like the bald eagle we all know until they get older.
That’s what I thought also
I think you nailed it. Osprey have a white chest/belly and tend to be a more slender bird at least here in the Northwest. I believe it takes about 4-5 years for a bald eagle to get its true markings.
Hay John, I'm glad that noise was an aging roller baring. I thought you were having a respiratory seaside! Let's face it, you got a few miles clocked up too😂
Thanks all for that bird ID!!
I have nightmares about fishing one of my favorite lakes, and John Skinner shows up next to me. I can see that long walk back to the truck with my head held down.
I used to catch bonita in Florida when we trolled for kingfish. And on the Pacific side of Costa Rica where I lived a few years we caught a version of them. I also caught them freelining bait while we fished for snapper at anchor over there. They're fighters for sure. Catching them from the beach has to be really fun and special.
You're still the NYS record holder (October 2009) for Albie's, that's quite an accomplishment. I've seen you on this beach many times over the years, all on youtube, it looks like an ideal location.
could you dm me the location? been trying to find a albie spot on LI
do more surf videos!
I’m in Nj waiting for them. See ya at the Brookdale show hopefully. Tight lines.
Great video John
You already got some blues on the fly and that’s tough so I don’t think you would have any problem with an Albie.
Love that spot. That cove is legendary!
Nice fishing
Thx for sharing
Last year, I had a couple of Albies go ballistic parallel to the shoreline at the feet of other anglers who were very considerate and understanding of what was happening. Nice group of guys out there on ELI, for sure!
It happens. It's hard to control their direction.
That bird looked like a juvenile bald eagle. Bald eagles like to eat dead fish. Ospreys are hardly ever found standing on land.
Wish there was shore fishing for albies like this on the upper cape....
Nice speedster the water looks nice and clear to bad they are not a good eating fish but that's my preference
Are they fast action rods? If so, fast action rods often break when using braid because fast action rods were designed around mono. A medium action rod would be better for braid
I like how they were atleast 50 yards down the beach now they just get right on top of you
The hawk at the end was your spirit animal. You have a better catch to break ratio than me by well over a few hundred times 😂😂.
Turns out it was a juvenile bald eagle according to three of the commenters.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing I saw one in southold this past week as well at my jobsite by peconic bay. Pretty cool
You could follow your fish, especially when there’s other anglers if you were by yourself I can totally understand standing in one spot but when there’s other anglers stay with your fish❤🎣
Have you noticed any increased seal activity? Been fishing the east end north shore lately and almost everytime I go, a seal will cruise the shoreline and kill the bite. Did manage to pull a keeper black sea bass this past Sunday from the shore.
Saw seals off plum island a few weeks ago, but none on the north fork.
That sure looks like a juvenile eagle to me. Great fish vid.
Thanks for that. Based on others' comments, I think you're right.
That’s a juvie bald eagle
Is it on the north shore
Ohh no the poor old Penn battalion
What beach is this? Looking to bring my son East to fish
😮 what terrible luck with that rod, cant believe that albie managed to pull that off
The fish made a cool move. It had a good story to tell when it went back to the other fish.
Hi John, you are going leader direct to lure, correct? No clip. What knot are you using?
Correct. 20# Fluoro leader direct to lure with palomar knot.
Hate to break a rod but looked like you had fun.
John, are your NF beach locations all public access ? Do they require town resident permit for parking?
Almost all, including this one, require a Town permit.
Hey John. Do you ever let the lure drop or strictly on the surface?
Strictly surface skipping for me on these.
On a scale of 1-10 how tight do you have the drag set when fishing for albies ?
7
Replacement rods may not be such an issue for you, but just in case, here's a vid about repairing broken rods that has come in handy for me. Check the comment section for some alternative materials/processes:

Cheers!
In the last three yeas I broke two of the same rods. Same spot as yours I really think it's a defect with those rods
Interesting.
How far east? I usually go to Cedar beach around Miller Place
East of mattituck.
All last year that seemed to be the go to beach for albies. Looks like this year it's gonna be the same
What beach is that?
How much time do you give a beach without seeing or catching an albie before moving?
30 minutes, or in the case of sunrise, an hour.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing will you make some moves around the beach or change spots completely?
Change completely.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing thanks John!
Hi John, if you sign a broken rod I'll buy it.
Could I use 15 lb line and a 3000 reel
With the appropriate rod, but you might be a little overpowered on some.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing ok thanks
@@JohnSkinnerFishing rod is 7 foot 6 inches
It’s nice to fish with gentlemen….
Allie’s? bobos, Bonita? Not familiar with term Alby or Albie
In the Northeast at least, Little Tunny are referred to as False Albacore, AKA albies.
Is this on Long Island??
yes
@@JohnSkinnerFishing that’s amazing I love watching your videos, I’ve been fishing out by Huntington north port area this past summer up until now great video !
Cool U got to bring Chum like on a boat chum them they will stay around
Can someone please buy this man a 10 weight fly rod? Much easier to cast with any wind vs an 8wt. 8wt will result in a dead albie
Use your inshore rod next time you’re fishing for albies
Do you keep any Albies? Should be good eating?
Terrible, bonito are good though
No and no.
1:55 What to do? You don't use such a limp rod..at least a medium / heavy surf rod.. that rod wouldn't control a Sea Robin.. so you run the risk of tangling others nearby and or a broken rod.
Nope. If an albie wants to run at the beach, you're not stopping it. That one did, but I held it back from where the other guys were. A medium-heavy surf rod is not the correct delivery device for a lure that generally weigh less than an ounce.
Also, for this fishing, 20# fluoro leader is about as heavy as one should go because the fish are extremely line-shy. This 7.5-ft medium rod with a 4000 reel can, and has, broken the 20# line on albies on a very tight drag.
Were you blind casting or did you see albie blow ups before?
Did u watch the video?? If you did, u would know the answer...
@@bobbertee5945 cool bobby boy. I saw him casting into waves with other fisherman around the beach. Great productive comment you had 🤓
@@partypete5672 if u we’re listening you would know….
Mostly blind casting.
Uncanny.
