Hi Mr skinner. Love your videos. Very informative. I really couldnt catch blackfish untill I watched that underwater video of blackfish and all the little fish. Made a huge difference in my fishing capabilities. I never miss blackfish now. Even the underwater fluke one. Very informative and enjoyable. Wish I could send you pics of my fish I catch now thanks to you. Keep doing what you love and sharing it with all of us. Cheers
i've bought your book and been watching youtube video on black fish fishing and yesterday i used a 3/4 oz banana jig and landed 20 black fish kept 2, im really glad you made these video they're so helpful to new fisherman like me who doesnt even know where to start.
Great video John! I love sheepshead fishing down here in Charleston and I really want to do some Tog fishing one of these years. By the way, I love the Holiday fish rag!
Hi John I’ve been enjoying the ML jig and bounce and Evict 2000 combo all season. It was awesome for snap jigging Sea Bass ! Got a Blackfish limit this morning including one at 21”. Thanks for designing great light tackle. It makes fishing that much more enjoyable
Hey I really appreciate your comment. That rod took a few tweaks to get it right, but now I think it's perfect for so many things. I'm glad you enjoy it.
Much awaited episode since we spoke at the fishermen's convention. Great video John Skinner ! Close call with the measuring device fumbling. Do you think it and the dehooker need foats in case of accidental drops?
Love the videos, but noticed you never really mention the tide, etc. Would be nice to get your thoughts as you fish for each species and during your video we can notice if you catch larger, smaller, more or less fish in relation to tide and wind conditions.
I know it sounds backward, but if there's the possibility of waves coming in I take the kayak because I launch the boat directly into the sound, which is dicey.
So here’s what I’M thinking John…… sure your books, rods and tackle sell well and are likely very profitable. Your RUclips vids are second to none and likely bring in some decent cash flow……but if you want to hit the lottery you should sell copies of your Garmin chips with all your fishing spots. You could wipe out the national debt.
@@J.o.e_K agreed. John is a master hook setter. I’ve fished with him 3 or 4 times. Aside from being a lot of fun, he’s very scientific in his approach. He spent an entire career that way.
Interesting thought on getting your fingers 'burned' from the crabs- never noticed that but usually I rinse my hand as soon as I bait the hook. Maybe that's it?
Awesome, knew you would be out in the kayak soon. Do you use a flag so the other boats can see you better? Love that kayak, was thinking of getting one. Can you beach launch it easily?
There's no Salt Strong course similar to the latest book, Fishing the Edge. If you're a surfcaster you'll benefit from Striper Pursuit even if you have the Salt Strong course. If you've gone through the fluke course I think you'll have most of the fluke book covered. I'd still suggest the bucktail book even if you have gone through the course. Knowing everything you can about bucktailing is just so beneficial. Thanks for your support.
I agree and I seen those little guys biting you also I'm in love with your trolling motor I'm saving my penny's hopefully to get one next year keep up the great work buddy your friend from nj 👍
@@JohnSkinnerFishing I hear that, you're videos are impressive for sure. Down here in Cape May seems like you always need to spice it up. Again, love your videos and crazy how much inshore keepers you get up there.
Thanks for clarifying that, I wasn't aware. It gets tricky where we fish. We can be in RI, CT or NY within minutes. Also have to keep in mind of being legal at port.
Could watch these tog videos all day!
Never stop releasing videos John!
Great opening day John. Was out yesterday in the western sound and had a great day as well.
Keep up the great work!
Hey John great video again. Just did some blackfishing on the Captree princess today, very very productive.
book is great, i dont think you relize how much you have helped not only me but countless others. thank you
Thanks for the kind words on the book!
Good job some really nice fish

Went out yesterday and today, your MH jig and bounce rod does not disappoint! Love that thing!
I'm glad you like it!
Reading your book as I watch this. Thanks for signing it. That's a nice touch sir
Enjoy the read!

Never done this type of fishing, but it looks just like how I would go about catching sheepshead here in Tampa. Looks very fun honestly.
I winter on Pine Island. Tog Fishing=Sheepshead.
Opening day was great this year! My son and I got 3 keepers from shore 17,18, and my shore pb 21 inches.
Great shore fishing!
I’m thinking about playing hooky from work tomorrow to go fishing

Every time i watch your clips. I feel excited and i want to fish and i want to come with you❤ and catch and see fish and learn🎉❤best wishes ❤624
They are such a cool looking fish I feel bad keeping them sometime
do you find that calmer or harsher conditions are better for blackfishing??
I can't get out when it's rough.

I’m sure you get this question a lot, but how do you decide to take the kayak out vs the boat?
I know it sounds backward, but if there's the possibility of waves coming in I take the kayak because I launch the boat directly into the sound, which is dicey.

Nice try
lol. Nice try. I don’t think any amount of money is going to make him want to destroy his spots.

Yeh, I had crabs once, they didn't burn but, they itched like crazzy😂
Trying to catch my first striper and have no boat can it be done? Where
Where do you get your green crabs and Asian shore crabs? at a bait shop or catch them yourself? What bait shop if you bought them?
How tight do you set the drag with the 10lb test braid? What test leader with that setup? I have that rod coming in the mail, cant wait! Thanks!
30# leader. Drag as tight as I dare without breaking the line.
Just wondering what makes your fingers burn from the crabs sitting a few days?
Accumulating crab fluids.
When are you coming back down to Florida
A few weeks.
Awesome, knew you would be out in the kayak soon. Do you use a flag so the other boats can see you better? Love that kayak, was thinking of getting one. Can you beach launch it easily?
It's 85 pounds stripped, same as my Hobie Outback. I manage, but usually use a bed extender on my pickup as opposed to roofing it.
Can you catch blackfish any time of the day? Tide more important?
They sleep at night. Daylight fishing.
do you mind to tell us the location? we are trying to find some big one in oyster bay 32A but all small one
Your video on how to set the hook is my get pumped video and now this one nice Go Get’em 🫡🫡
Can u post the jig
I didn’t think the water would be that calm, it was a little gusty here by Mac Arthur, where did you get the crabs from ? Thanks.
I got my crabs from a friend, and yes, I know how that sounds. The wind picked up around 11 just when I got home.
I bought your saltstrong videos. Are your Amazon books the same?

i think your fishing spots are the only places that have fish... 😉
Anyway, how would compare the fight between blackfish and sheepshead?
Extremely similar, especially with their preference for crabs.
I thought Tog were always around rocks or structure...looks like you are fishing in an open bay or something...just curious
I'm around boulders.
Where did you get the green crabs for bait?
WEGO Bait and Tackle, Southold NY.
What jig are you using?

Does your skinner ML jig and bounce spinning have more stout and more back bone then the slime wave in a mh ?
More stopping power.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing I went fishing today it was dead low tide and I was catching black fish in 2 feet of water I could actually see them take my bait
Hey John can you please let me know the next time you do a similar at one of the hotels the Melville Hilton is 10 minutes from me
3/2/24, ward melville.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing ohhhhh I’m coming i can’t wait
@@JohnSkinnerFishing that’s the hotel right
@@JohnSkinnerFishing you mean the high school in East Setauket
You no the saying dont leave fish to find fish john lol
Had enough in the cooler. Explore for future trips. There needs to be some % of R&D else it's hard to learn new spots.

Hey Skinner, I thought you weren’t legally allowed to target black fish before opening day lol
It opened today, October 11, Long Island Sound.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing ohh nice I’m going asap
Any signs of top water life? Hoping albies are still around.
Very quiet from what I've seen.
What are they charging for green crabs out in Greenport ?
Not sure. I didn't get them here.
Ok.. could you advise where and how much the going rate for green crabs are ? A good bait shop in that area ?
WEGO Bait and Tackle in Southold. Call for hours and availability. The owner died recently, so the shop is on limited hours.
Thank you ..
Save the legs and grind them up and put them in a chumpot for the next trip. Same with the fillet guts. Keep the heads and backbones for a broth
No.
I definitely do not want to chum for tog. It will attract too much small stuff.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing I hear that, you're videos are impressive for sure. Down here in Cape May seems like you always need to spice it up. Again, love your videos and crazy how much inshore keepers you get up there.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing do however keep the carcasses of fish, clean out the lungs and anything red and boil them, it makes excellent fish stock.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing boil up the carcasses minus the gills and guys, unbelievable fish stock.
Where I can buy this fish bag?
Here you go. They make many sizes. Really keeps fish cold! amzn.to/3PTJNeS
Opening day in New York isn't October 15th?
North side of Fishers Island off limits to CT and RI, until today technically. Not sure how the works where you are fishing.
Long Island Sound opened 10/11.

Why/how do the crabs burn you?
They burn me too it’s just a way of Marks life. The burns are too much.
Fluids accumulate.
No waste. American Indian style, maybe put some guts etc in your tomato garden soil.
No.stupid idea.
