Just flip them in the boat Mr. skinner those small jigs stick very well, i very rarely ever have them pop off when I’m doing so. Thanks for all the awesome content and knowledge
Blowing a gale and the location sound is handling it really well with the new wind sock. Thanks for another interesting video and all the best for the xmas season and beyond.
Windiest winter here that I can remember. Really limiting on where and what you can fish for right now. Hopefully changes soon. Looks like it might. Good work on the sheeps! Those take some serious patience.
Awesome video as usual Have you tried sheepshead fishing from your kayak? I've found they don't spook and you can pretty much get right on top them and they still bite. With a peddle drive you can nose in tight to pilings, set the hook and back peddle at the same time to clear them from the sharp obstructions.
Very nice John! I'm in SE North Carolina and over the last few seasons I've fished almost exclusively for Sheepshead when targeting table fare since our recreational flounder. Season has become a joke. Honestly I'd prefer eating Sheeps anyway.
Mr skinner you have been very helpful to me and Buddies . We watch your videos like we are studying for a test. Me and buddy just started surf fishing with help from your videos. Fall run was a beginning. We are looking forward to spring so we can use your teaching Handi. Bucktails and spoons will be the focus. Me personally took you advice you gave me in selecting the proper reel and pool . I end up getting the van staal VR175 paired with 10’6 dna odm rod . What is your wisdom on my selection?
Hi John, Bill from Venice here..Great catch again. What size and type of hook should I use if fishing from shore with shrimp?.. I use a 2/0 circle hook at this time.. Thanks .Catch um up.
Ex-LI’er in VA ,caught my first sheep this year, on a wreck, blackfishing bycatch, was impressed with the table fare, will be more targeted next season for sure.
Where ever you were making the underwater footage with all those nice Mangrove Snappers is a place to target. There were some nice ones down there even those they aren't a big fish inshore. Key West Waterman does videos on free lining minnows around mangroves.
The cracked shell might trigger their predator instincts. They somehow know it’s injured and will be an easier prey to get ahold of. I remember watching a shark feeding video where a shark was feeding on something with many other small fish swimming right by the sharks face. The shark was not interested at all in them until 1 of them bumped into the reef and appeared to be stunned. As soon as the shark saw weakness it pounced on the fish…
their feeding habits are quite different. They "mostly" feed vertically in the water column, near structure (bridges, sod banks, ect). I've had them bite 3' from the surface in 40' of water Love moving water and the bites are the softest bites ever. Typically one bite and they're gone. And for what they lack in quantity in NJ, they make up for in quality - big ones.
I take it the B&T shops don't sell any crabs other than maybe mole crabs, so getting your own on oyster bars is probably nothing like collecting Asian shore crabs up north, right?
Good morning John I live on Staten Island what you know my name is Bass 59 so your rods are at Dick's Sporting Goods in Long Island I hope they come to Staten Island cuz we got one Dick's Sporting Goods on Staten Island Mall because when your rods get there I want to be the first online to grab them you know what I mean

Why are you so shy to split the distance between you and the dock. Make life a lot easier and catch more fish. Not like you need to catch more because you are the master.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Trust me. You aren’t going to spook them. Not saying to do it, but. You could actually tie to the dock, drop on the same piling and catch one after the other. Thanks for all the great videos through the years.

Your rods are strong enough to handle it!!!
Over the rail and in the pail!..

Thanks for a great video! I will be in the Key.s in Feb. and I'm very anxious to try your techniques!
A line touching your line in the water is like a natural way to unhook a fish idk why
Dad came thru for the family meal. Enjoyed the video. Merry Christmas to you and your family
Great underwater video. Hope those Sheepshead were good eating!

No water, no current, cold. Still beats being up North with no fish.
Another nice trip, just turned on my west coast Florida friends to your channel.
Enjoy the holidays!
Thanks for the referrals and Happy Holidays!
Always appreciate the underwater view . So interesting to see. Thanks as always John
Truly enjoy your videos, great day fishing
Wow amazing
This El Niño winter has been cold but we haven’t had a single freeze or frost so I’m happy
Agreed. No deadly cold this winter.
Thanks for all you do!
Merry Christmas to you and yours!
I appreciate the kind comment! Happy Holidays!
Very nice!

for sheepshead why don't you use the ML Jig & Bounce spinning rod?

I've seen that your flounder season is a mess. Hopefully it recovers somehow.

I was nodding my head yes when I read "odm rod". Those are good. The reel sounds like a good match. Thanks for the kind words and Happy New Year!

That sounds fine. They have pretty big mouths.

They're so much like blackfish, and look like big fancy porgies.
What size boat is this? I've been looking but don't know what to get yet. Def would want a power pole
1990 18.5-ft Maverick Master Angler.

I think those were mostly shorts. I was in a residential canal on the south end of the island.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing I looked up the Florida record and it is 17.6 lbs since 1992. Had to be a reef caught fish.
Hello John I just move here also from NJ where are you located in swf?
pine island
Hey John, is there a discount code just in time for Christmas?
I never discount my books. Margins are too tight.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing I meant the fishing rods
Sorry I misunderstood. I don't have any control over that, but I just went on jandh.com and if you sign up for their newsletter, you get 10% off.
Fell of a dock once sheepshead fishing in Florida
Love it when you cuss lol.
Do you target sheepshead at home? I don't remember those videos
I've never seen one on LI, but I know they get them on the western south shore near brooklyn.
John, you don’t target /eat mangrove snappers?
They would have wiped out my crab supply and I wouldn't have the shot at the bigger sheeps. Lots of short mangroves.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing heck yeah man. You should try stuffing the sheep with green onion garlic and butter -oven baked
Underwater video is outstanding. Same dock as your other video, if it ain’t broken don’t fix it. Nice pink scissors.
couple of giants in there.
For me they're giants, and definitely real good ones for the area. It's a lot of fun catching what's a relatively new fish for me.
You in Sarasota? I’m heading to Naples in 3 weeks with two FishPro Trophy’s… looking for someone to fish with

Sounds like a great theory.
I fish for sheeps in NJ they behave much different compared to southern sheeps
Cool. How are they different?

Hi George. Right. Most of the time they don't have fiddlers. These are much harder to get than Asian Shore Crabs.
I bet if you brought some frozen Asians down there, they would work awesome.
Very illegal unfortunately - adding yet another invasive species. I bet you're right though!
Do a lot people do that type of fishing down there? Seems like you are the only one by the docks. Not so with black fishing. Why do you think that is?
Absolutely common way to target sheep where I am, except most use a hook and small sinker instead of a jig.

There's only about 4 feet of water around those docks so I'm concerned about spooking them.

No. Such a mess. Interesting point though.
