    I love this trick! Thanks for sharing.
    When I do it for my less magic-savvy friends I use this exact method, but I have friends who would likely spot my attempt at a top-stack retention, and who who definitely suspect a set-up if I didn't shuffle, so I came up with an extra bit of misdirection and confusion for them: Instead of a single-suit stack of 13 cards I use the 14 odd-numbered clubs and hearts with the ace of hearts as the marker card, at position 14. That way I can start with a full spread to show it appears to be a fairly mixed deck, and my top-stack retention shuffle doesn't attract as much scrutiny. Then I hand the spectator the top thirteen cards and let them shuffle. Then I tell them to cut to any card in the remainder of the deck to get a number from 1 to 13. Then I tell them to find the card in their 13-card stack that is that number from the top, remember it, and place it on the remainder of the deck (on top of the ace of hearts, of course) without me seeing it. It doesn't matter if they look at the cards in their stack as the mix of clubs and hearts will appear random). From here the trick is pretty much the same, the only difference is the card you're looking for after the riffle-shuffles is the first odd-numbered heart or club after the ace of hearts.
    A nice extra twist on the original (single-suit) version is: just before you start to look through the deck for their card at the end, announce you are going to try to read their mind. While doing your favorite mind-reading gesture tell them "I think your card is red, right? “ then just as you start to search through the deck say "I'm definitely getting a diamond" by this time they'll think you know the card even though you haven't yet located it, making the reveal even more mysterious when you do find it.

    Honestly the interlocking chain is one of my favorite principles. One of the first things I look for in an effect is spectator interaction. I want my magic to feel intimate and personal. When I discovered this principle I couldn’t help but smile. The ability to let not one but two spectators shuffle or the same spectator twice... it’s a dream come true for any magician. It’s really difficult to find this principle on RUclips if it’s one this platform at all. Thank u for sharing this with everyone man. Generous as always.

    My 8 year old son did the ghost coin trick in school for show and tell, his teacher was shocked, he had no clue what happened and how he did it, he’s been practicing for a while and he’s mastered it, he’s got that magicians flare like you do, he’s shy but he stunned everyone when it came to his performance, he’s called Lewis Threlfall, I’ve got a feeling he’s going to be popular when it comes to illusions when he’s older

    I am not lying when I say this: I LOVE THIS TRICK!
    Using the 12 numbers on a clock is straight-up GENIUS. I had one observation, however, that I thought I should put into writing: I performed something that was close to this before, where I remembered the 12 cards at the top, did some very convincing false shuffles and made the spectator choose a card from there. But the way you taught me how to retain the top packet of a deck is just amazing, and I will definitely refer back to this video when want to take a look at that again.
    PS: Really excited about MagicLand coming back, if I got chosen, I would 100% pull 2 all-nighters!

      A good way to interact with your students would be to lay out the Twelve cards in the circle of a clock face and ask them to place the card at the time they select on top of the other deck. This gives the student the chance to show you that they know where the numbers on the clock face are positioned. After they place the card they choose on top of your key card, you can just continue as Spidey does.

    Very nice trick! It actually adds a deeper layer to a simple "I find your card" trick! 💪 I just want to point a small note to anybody that will try this trick: if the card you use as a reference (in the explanation the ace of diamonds) is near the top of the deck and no other diamonds are after it, it's because when you cut you split the deck in between the ace of diamonds and the chosen card, which will therefore be the first diamond you encounter from the bottom of the deck.
    P.S. I actually understood the trick because I know a triumph that uses a similar principle with face up and face down cards

    Dang it Spidey, I have that book, I've done the routine, even done it a few times, but you added your personality and dialog to it and it fooled me! When you got to the explanation and grouped the block of cards together I rolled my eyes and thought to myself "really?"

      Hahahah it’s just one of those things we forget and it’s so damn deceptive and I do it differently 😊

    This is SUCH a good principle. I had heard of this concept before, but didn't put it together in the performance and was completely fooled. Spidey I love your handling, the clock idea is great! I have a couple ideas I wanted to share to justify the 12 cards (without calling attention to it) and to get more people involved. I also want to put out there that I 100% trust Spidey's judgement and professional experience in constructing these routines. I love creating card tricks so can't help but share some thoughts! Anyways, here we go. After you've done the top stack retention shuffle, hand out packets of cards to spectators, making sure one of them gets a packet that's just the top 12 cards. Divide the rest among 3 or 4 spectators, but keep a pile for yourself and retain the Ace of Diamonds on top. As people shuffle, instruct the spectator with the 12 card packet to pick a card/look at the bottom card of their shuffled pile. As they look, collect the remaining packets in whatever order the spectators want, as long as you leave your pile with the Ace of Diamonds on top. Then place the chosen card and their pile on top of the pack. Do a simple false cut before going into the two riffle shuffles. Proceed as taught in this video. If the trick wasn't fooling enough already, now it's basically impossible for a spectator to reconstruct. More importantly, it covers the need for 12 cards as part of the chaos and makes it that much more random. If you wanted to go one step further, you could put a breather crimp on the Ace of Diamonds and give out all of the cards as packets to the spectators. Once you've collected all of the cards expect for the final 12 cards, casually cut the Ace to the top of the deck and then collect the last packet. These are definitely some more involved handlings, but if done right will appear casual and not procedural at all. Thanks as always Spidey for sharing such great magic! Would love to hear anyone's thoughts on this handling or other ideas :)

      @SpideyHypnosis  3 года назад +1

      Looolll dude this is exactly one of my handlings 😂 except I split all the diamonds Including the ace and just peek the bottom diamond after that stack is shuffled. I still do the clock tho. Just the shuffling is different. Great idea tho!

    • @morganmay9149
      @morganmay9149 3 года назад +1

      Haha nice!! It's such a killer principle. I like that idea of splitting by diamonds and peeking, keeps it even simpler. A different effect I've done with this principle is to set the suit in a "random" order that I know on top. Then a spectator can do two riffle shuffles, and the order stays the same. From here, you can force the suit, remove that suit, and go into all sorts of prediction effects. This is great for something like a serial number match on a dollar bill. Throw in some false shuffles or over/under deals and *chef's kiss*

      @@morganmay9149 yeah. Endless possibilities. I even have one where I have a stack of blank cards with doodles or animal names instead of playing cards and that can be used slot more openly because having a pile full of “mammals” or “doodles with only straight lines” is nowhere near as obvious as all the diamonds. So I can handle a lot more openly. I can even show them the 12 cards and they can say stop when they see one they like.
