The addition of the Rosetta shuffle really sells this simple self-worker. I've known about the Galbraith principle for decades, but because I dislike and generally pay no attention to mathematical tricks that involve counting and dealing, it still floors me every time I see it used again. 😆

Deal up and down In the middle part, let them tell you how many up or down (like in a Dani Dortiz, 'one or three or two or four, i dont care') - you can do that a couple times then finish the pack as per vid. Never hurts to add one more bit of random, that was their choice, instead of the magicians! Love this one!

Whenever I open a brand new deck, I show someone near me that all the cards are neatly ordered by suit. I ask them to cut the deck five times after I've cut the deck five times... always mentioning the useless, "has to be at least 2 cards cut," But honestly doesn't even matter. Then I neatly lay out 13 cards face down, and repeat that 4 times so there's 13 piles of 4 cards... gotta go in order though. Reveal the piles one at a time to show all the cards ordered via number and face. It's literally not a trick, but the extravagant overplay of the 2-card rule, and some silver tongued sassafrassin', and WHAM, you're a genius, but really everyone's just stupid. I love it!

The nice thing about this is your free to put your own spin on things - I'd always encourage you to come up with your own idea's, so your right on track bro 👊 I think doing anything with your hands behind your back and eye's closed seems impossible. Think if someone solved a Rubiks cube like that - It Seem impossible right? In this case it's about mindset = At the moment your approaching the problem like your trying to 'hide' something. Maybe explore the possibility that your putting the cards behind your back to make the trick seem even more difficult and impossible. Turn the weaker part of the trick into a strength. I'd say that's a pretty elegant approach.

This trick is a KILLER! The Gilbreath Principle is so powerful. Just so people know, it doesn't have to be exactly 10 and 6 (32 cards total) to work. You just want to have enough to ensure that after they shuffle, the top 20 are from those perfectly alternating blocks being mixed together. It worked every time for me with 8 and 8 (32 cards total), and 7 and 7 (28 cards total). I wouldn't dare go any lower than that. But I also manually set it up with those amounts just to test it out. It is definitely safer to do more at the beginning as its challenging to know when you have exactly 6, 7 or 8 left in your hands at the end. You're simply estimating, and you don't want to overestimate and put yourself in a bind. Also, the Rosetta almost works better as the mixing is more balanced from each packet. Not trying to be critical, just want people to know that they have some flexibility.
Absolutely bro. I agree. After playing with various splits of perfect alternating groups at the start and the end of the mixing, I found this was the most reliable and best balance. All of the above outcomes will achieve the same result. The reason I opt for 10 initially is that the spectator isn’t watching closely as your setting up the premise. Then by the time you’ve explained what your doing you’re into the more random shuffling. This then means there’s less precise alternating at the end - again where their attention is probably the highest and most critical. Absolutely agree that the Rosetta shuffle is more powerful. I've just put the video on again (this time on my computer to watch on a larger screen) and for some reason my phone was skipping part of the video every time it came to taking half the cards off and turning them upside down. No idea why but that's where the problem was. Now working absolutely perfectly every single time. Thank you! I'm usually quite good at card tricks but for some reason I can't get this one to work 🙁 Every time I turn the cards over and then put them into two piles of 10 I get one pile with all the cards face down and the other pile has mostly face up but usually one or two face down so the trick can never work. I'm sure I must be missing a step somewhere or something really simple but totally unable to figure out what at the moment. I've followed the video through at least 10 times now to no avail so going to take a rest and come back to it again in a couple of days to see if I can figure out where I'm going wrong. Really hope I can as this is a great looking effect.
Now I just have the problem of knowing that every time I perform this trick even on myself my brain isn't braining!!! 😂 Going to have to find a video that explains this principle to a 10 year old otherwise I think my head might explode 😂

when you openly shuffle the cards? Only the first 10 cards and the last 6 cards from each half. Spend less than 20 minutes practicing and you'll have it no problem. Not a bad time investment for such a show stopper!

Wow! Well nothing is impossible, but there’s always a trade off. I think this is as far as you can take it with a genuine shuffle unless the cards were set up before the start. If you figure it out, let me know! That’s a great question!
A little tip. If the spectator flips over the bottom half of the deck, you don't need to turn the deck over after they shuffle the two halves together. Maybe give them a choice of which half to turn over and respond accordingly. Just be sure to note which half is which when they cut it.
Yes this is also possible, I just found the outcome less consistent for some reason. I try not to give to many options to make the explanation as streamlined as possible.

Nope! Hence me explaining to alternate the last 6 cards. 😂 it’s these two perfectly alternating section that are shuffled together in order for the Gilbreath principle to do its magic.
It's a simple trick of alignment or it won't work. The alignment begins near the beginning but isn't completed until you put them behind your back or under the table and rearrange the alignment. If you do this correctly, it will work every time.
The only card trick I know is knowing exactly your card when I make you pick from 21 cards. After making three piles (left to right 4th card to 1st card/5th to 2nd and so on until all cards are out. Picking up any pile , asking you what pile your card is in and making sure to put that pile undisturbed in the middle of both non card holding piles. Doing this three times. 11th card is always the card you are looking for. Can’t really mix up the cards as you go. Guess what. Math. Do it face up and try it twice on the same person doing it all face down to be fair the second time. Blows away the “you’re just counting”. Trust I don’t count. Except the 11th card. Try it and tell me what you think
Nothing beats the Chinese Dragons by L.G. using the same principle and its way easier to execute. Performing that has never failed me and it executed on try one. There is a key step here that should be emphasized for this to work flawlessly. No the ripple doesnt have to be perfect. Any rosetta mixes ive let any spec done d.n.e a perfect 1-pharoah.
I get all the way to the end where the other person seperates 10 and as I separate them I can see visually the two decks are mirrored but when I do the behind the back and push the 10 back they still come out off what am I doing wrong?!I got it all the way until that last part.
Are you flipping the cards behind your back and reverse counting them? If so, you may need to reexamine the sequence when the spectator cuts, flips and shuffles the deck. Followed by you turning the deck over. I think those are the most likely places you could be deviating from the procedure.

Bob hummer’s CATO principle is a completely different principle. Yes it is similar in that the cards are mixed face up and face down, but the correct credit was given. This is all classic Gilbreath principle.

Being a mathematician, and having studied the Gilbreath principle in the famous book of Diaconis and Graham: Magical Mathematics: the mathematical ideas that animate great magic tricks, Princeton University Press, 2011, I recognised the mechanics of this effect.
This is so frustrating. No matter what I do I end up with 7 or 8 in a row all up or down.The two piles match but no alternating up and down. I am turning over the decks and doing it exactly as the video shows. One time I got all 10 down and the last few 7 or 8 in a row down and last 2 or 3 up.
Sounds like you’re definitely missing a step. The card have been perfectly alternating - so it would be very difficult to get so many in a row facing the same direction. I’d double check the tutorial again to see what step you are missing. Best of luck 🤞
@@MattMcGurk I am doing every step and the trick does work except that I get maybe 7 down and 3 up consecutively. I think the problem is I am not good with the riffle and the cards are mixing in bigger chunks than they should. If I was missing a step the 2 sets of 10 wouldn’t match. I was having the same problem. I finally realized that when you split the deck in two before the riffle shuffle, that you turn over the half that was on the top of the deck. That fixed it for me. Good luck!

I think that’s actually impossible based on the fact that you’ve already perfectly the mixed the cards face up and face down. Sounds like your forgetting to flip the packet before the second shuffle
@@MattMcGurkYes this can happen! It will happen if at the end of a riffle a large clump of cards goes down at once from one hand. Then you've got all twenty cards on top alternating face up and down. Now as you distribute them to the two piles, one pile will be all face up and the other face down.
i used to do a cool card trick with a fresh pack of cards. the story goes a guy is on trial and bets the jury if he wins in a hand of poker he goes free.. each jury member gets to cut the deck so 12 cuts.. then you deal 1 card to the first 6 joury members then one to the guy on trial then one to the next 6... repeat the same thing .. then go in reverse. then forward again.. the guy on trial will always have 4 of a kind while each jury member has 3
My conclusion to how this works or makes sense and how other card performances like this happen. Is my rendered explanation is that what is happening essentially is. The cards are being very mixed up and mixed some more and then after mixing the cards a certain way over and over you would end up with a certain order of mixed cards saying the cards are now mixed up a certain way because certain specific steps were taken. Once the cards are mixed a certain way and how to get the cards mixed that way whenever wanted the unmixing part is considered and applied so how to unmix mixed cards that were mixed a certain way require a certain unmix moves to be applied which then unmixes cards that were mixed a certain way. So mix mix mix cards using specific turns flips cuts whichever until and certain amount of mixing actions have been applied and then a study of how to rearrange some mixed cards is conducted and applied. Two things are needed. One how to get the cards mixed a certain kind of mixed and two how to put those mixed cards in some arrangement or order and finish.

Why not just skip the riffle Shuffle and go straight to the Rosetta shuffle? is there a reason for the riffle Shuffle to even be introduced? I'm just curious or did I miss something along the way?
You can do either Ralph. I was showing both options. Personally I like the Rosetta as it appears more random and has a better display.

Nope! Hence me explaining to alternate the last 6 cards. 😂 it’s these two perfectly alternating section that are shuffled together in order for the Gilbreath principle to do its magic.

It's a simple trick of alignment or it won't work. The alignment begins near the beginning but isn't completed until you put them behind your back or under the table and rearrange the alignment. If you do this correctly, it will work every time.

The only card trick I know is knowing exactly your card when I make you pick from 21 cards. After making three piles (left to right 4th card to 1st card/5th to 2nd and so on until all cards are out. Picking up any pile , asking you what pile your card is in and making sure to put that pile undisturbed in the middle of both non card holding piles. Doing this three times. 11th card is always the card you are looking for. Can’t really mix up the cards as you go. Guess what. Math. Do it face up and try it twice on the same person doing it all face down to be fair the second time. Blows away the “you’re just counting”. Trust I don’t count. Except the 11th card. Try it and tell me what you think

Nothing beats the Chinese Dragons by L.G. using the same principle and its way easier to execute. Performing that has never failed me and it executed on try one. There is a key step here that should be emphasized for this to work flawlessly. No the ripple doesnt have to be perfect. Any rosetta mixes ive let any spec done d.n.e a perfect 1-pharoah.

I get all the way to the end where the other person seperates 10 and as I separate them I can see visually the two decks are mirrored but when I do the behind the back and push the 10 back they still come out off what am I doing wrong?!I got it all the way until that last part.
Are you flipping the cards behind your back and reverse counting them?
If so, you may need to reexamine the sequence when the spectator cuts, flips and shuffles the deck. Followed by you turning the deck over.
I think those are the most likely places you could be deviating from the procedure.
You need to flip the packet first before reversing the order of the cards.

This is based on a Bob Hummer trick. Gotta give credit where credit is due. Nice trick.
Bob hummer’s CATO principle is a completely different principle. Yes it is similar in that the cards are mixed face up and face down, but the correct credit was given. This is all classic Gilbreath principle.

This is so frustrating. No matter what I do I end up with 7 or 8 in a row all up or down.The two piles match but no alternating up and down. I am turning over the decks and doing it exactly as the video shows. One time I got all 10 down and the last few 7 or 8 in a row down and last 2 or 3 up.
Sounds like you’re definitely missing a step. The card have been perfectly alternating - so it would be very difficult to get so many in a row facing the same direction. I’d double check the tutorial again to see what step you are missing. Best of luck 🤞
@@MattMcGurk I am doing every step and the trick does work except that I get maybe 7 down and 3 up consecutively. I think the problem is I am not good with the riffle and the cards are mixing in bigger chunks than they should. If I was missing a step the 2 sets of 10 wouldn’t match. I tried 2 of your other tricks and they worked perfectly. Thanks for the great tricks.
I was having the same problem. I finally realized that when you split the deck in two before the riffle shuffle, that you turn over the half that was on the top of the deck. That fixed it for me. Good luck!

"genuine shuffle"? Are we to just guess what that means? Because if you let the spectator randomize the cards, then this doesn't work.

I think that’s actually impossible based on the fact that you’ve already perfectly the mixed the cards face up and face down. Sounds like your forgetting to flip the packet before the second shuffle

It will happen if at the end of a riffle a large clump of cards goes down at once from one hand. Then you've got all twenty cards on top alternating face up and down. Now as you distribute them to the two piles, one pile will be all face up and the other face down.

i used to do a cool card trick with a fresh pack of cards. the story goes a guy is on trial and bets the jury if he wins in a hand of poker he goes free..
each jury member gets to cut the deck so 12 cuts.. then you deal 1 card to the first 6 joury members then one to the guy on trial then one to the next 6... repeat the same thing .. then go in reverse. then forward again.. the guy on trial will always have 4 of a kind while each jury member has 3
If you do it with all four suits in A-K (not NDO) all jury members end up with two pair, while the guy on trial ends up with a 4 of a kind.

My conclusion to how this works or makes sense and how other card performances like this happen. Is my rendered explanation is that what is happening essentially is. The cards are being very mixed up and mixed some more and then after mixing the cards a certain way over and over you would end up with a certain order of mixed cards saying the cards are now mixed up a certain way because certain specific steps were taken. Once the cards are mixed a certain way and how to get the cards mixed that way whenever wanted the unmixing part is considered and applied so how to unmix mixed cards that were mixed a certain way require a certain unmix moves to be applied which then unmixes cards that were mixed a certain way. So mix mix mix cards using specific turns flips cuts whichever until and certain amount of mixing actions have been applied and then a study of how to rearrange some mixed cards is conducted and applied. Two things are needed. One how to get the cards mixed a certain kind of mixed and two how to put those mixed cards in some arrangement or order and finish.
