I knew Aldo Colombini and Rachel Wild-Colombini. Aldo was brilliant and just the funniest, sweetest gentleman you could hope to meet. Much of his stuff was easy to perform but also absolutely baffling for spectators. Very ‘smart’ magic without a lot of sleight work. I miss them both. So glad that you credited him here and that you’re keeping his memory and legacy alive by doing so and by sharing his magic.
Thanks so much, one of my favourite teachers. I regret I never had the pleasure to meet him in person. I love Aldo’s magic and thinking. One of the greats.
When I did this for my twins, I changed the story a little - asked one of them if they wanted to be kings or queens, then the other red or black. Then told them the two detectives were them, and the single card that was picked was Swiper who had swiped their snacks.
I told you that 80% don't know methods to card tricks. I must be worst magician in world. Thinking straight today, people who don't do magic basicly never knows method. In some keycard tricks they might guess right, but let's change that 80 to 99%. Thanks man.
After you put the court cards 5th from top and 4th from bottom and cut the deck, their chosen card is now in the 4th position between the court cards. That's why it works, one down, one under.... now they card is in the 2nd position ☺
I got this down in one evening. Your straightforward approach to showing the real trick timing, the explanation, and no wasted time are definitely going to have me coming back. This is the first ever trick I feel I've ever mastered. What a thrill!
I met Aldo and Rachel at th IBM Convention in 2007. He and his wife were wonderful. They gave a great lecture. Our hearts go out to them. Aldo passed away in 2012 and Rachel in 2018. I am sure their IBM Ring had a Broken Wand ceremony for each of them.
Such a legend. I wish I would had the chance to meet him. Even on this channel Aldo shines, this is now quickly becoming one of the most popular videos, and it’s because of his genius. He is still with us ❤️
I saw your show on the Celebrity Cruise ship last month and attended your master class the following morning. It was inspiring. I love your style and why you said you became interested in magic. I purchased the two cards you offered after the class. I’m not sure if cards need some sort of adapter to fit into a computer. The drives do not fit a computer or phone. Can you explain what I will need to access the drive of the training cards I purchased. Thank you!!!
Couldn't agree more! One of my favourite magicians. Aldo’s version was a little different. The detectives would catch a card, say a 7, then the spectator would could down 7 cards and find their selection. Such an awesome magician.
@@MattMcGurk This is a well constructed tutorial. Thanks for sharing it. Which of Aldo's trick is this based on? It sounds like "Sherlock Vs Moriarty". It also looks like you're using an Aaron Fisher principle from his trick "Search and Destroy", so Aaron should also be credited.
I love tricks that involve some kind of maths so I can teach kids that maths can be magic and fun. Many of your “Easy Tricks” involve counting or rely on the position of cards and this is another of those. I add two more cards to the “suspects” pack so I have three rounds of “interrogation” but you have to remember which cards to discard and which to keep.
Do you happen to have a tutorial on handling deck, basic overhand, riffle shuffle etc tutorials on your channel? Love the way you show and teach things!
That is a very well-thought-out, fun, and entertaining trick. Thank you for sharing and teaching it!. I love Aldo Colombini's creative and colorful magic. I had the pleasure of meeting him and performing a couple tricks for him (and vice versa) at a magic convention about 25 years ago. Sad he's no longer with us. No sexism intended, but I particularly like it with the Jacks as the detectives.Could even give them names such as "Detective Jack Spade" and "Detective Jack O'Club from Ireland." Either that or using two aces (two "ace detectives").
I rewatched a video of me doing the same trick in a different way then this came up. I'm extremely amateur, though I'd like your take on my fort attempt. You did it so much more fluidly
Well I do this full time and have done for 39 years, so do feel bad, it’s a completely unfair comparison. The main thing is that you did it, just practice so it becomes smoother. The fluidity comes from familiarity. You got this man 👊
Hi Matt I enjoy watching your card tricks and amazing reaction from my family, it would be really cool to just watch you do a bunch of pro magic tricks in a video without teaching us to see our reactions but the videos are incredible.
Great trick. Have used it to good effect. But I always ask myself: isn’t there a theoretical risk if the cut is exactly between the key card and the suspect?
Yeah, keycard wasn't surprising but rest of trick works for me, even I'm not this much beginner. Cool trick is cool, it doesn't matter which level your skills are. Thanks man.
@@MattMcGurk Right on. Some tricks are hard to perform and some are easy. 80% of spectators can't see difference in method, only outcome. So, if you can amaze people with easy but cool tricks, I can't tell why not use them. Thanks Matt
I have about 4 or 5 of your tricks that I’ve performed for friends and family. I’ve noticed on a few when you do them you’ve left the jokers in. Is there a reason why you do this? Would be fun to use them as the detectives!
Would likely throw this one off, this one is partial sleight and mainly math based. Requires 52, if you incorporate Jokers you’d need to remove 2 other cards and it would work however(as long as a Joker wasn’t selected as the criminal)
After the cut at the key card. their card will be on top of the deck. After that the down under shuffle positions it so that it ends up between the jokers. But you don’t need to know their card for this to work.Hope this helps 👍
What if the key card and their selected card are separated because of the two single cuts? 4:12 Also, how in the world do I keep coming up with 7 card every time I cut the deck? 6:32 It's aways 7 cards. Is it ever more?
A single cut will never separate the two cards unless the spectator manages to cut between the two cards, which will place the selection on top of the deck and the key card on the bottom - which is exactly the position you want them in. If this happens, you may need to remove the detectives as they have done the dirty work for you! There will always be 7 cards between the detectives because of the position you place them in when you insert them into the deck.
@@MattMcGurk OK, but if the spectator manages to cut between the two cards, then does another cut....isn't the trick ruined? I only ask this because as I was practicing I actually did cut between the two card.

What happens if they cut on the key card and the “criminal” early on or on either of the detectives later on?
Criminal will end up on top of the deck, key card will be on bottom.

If the person cuts the deck and happens to cut it between your key card, and their card, that would mess the trick up?
When I perform this, I call them The Great Decktectives :D

Their card will then be on top. Makes it easier 👍
Everytime i do the last cut i get 8 cards instead of 7 , it gets ruined and i never get the right card, can you please tell me what’s the problem
You are not putting the jacks in the correct position at the top and bottom of the deck. Double check this and you should be fine. 👍
What happens if the cards are cut precisely between the key card and selected card?
