awesome! thanks for checking Gunhead out - I think we will keep demo up until Nov 7th or so.
Also not announced yet... but we're doing a free giveaway of Cryptark on Steam later this week (as in anyone can get a free copy of it). So anyone hasn't tried Cryptark maybe wait to buy it a few more days :)

also wanted to add after watching rest:
      - When you buy a license or pick stuff up and dont set it to a slot - it goes into your Inventory. You can adjust your weapons at anytime in the Inventory option in the ingame menu. We're making some changes to make that more clear
      - There is a Zero G suit that lets you fly around, so thats a possible alternative option than the constant jetpack use
I think i'll change it so FOV moves weapon models back also

Can you clear up something for me?
Why do devs do advertisement for release versions of games that I cant buy yet?
Ads for games in development makes sense, get word out there and spread word of mouth. It takes time and people that are crazy for it can do free advertisement while you finish the game.
But full versions getting an ad campaign before I can buy it just means every other game has a month to usurp my attention. Hundreds of games a day get released. About every day, Splatty shows another game.
I am not going to see your game at release. You fall back into the pile thats worth while.
Why not advertise the same day or the day before release? Maintaining a day of hype is easy. Half a month is damn near impossible for me.
Cheers and have a good one.

@@TherealTenmanI Because Steam use interest for an upcoming game to know how much to put it forward when the game will be released (and before it get released).
Marketing a game is a very difficult process where developer will usualy have a lot of "misses" where X or Y advertising simply didn't work, puting the faith into a single action to advertise 1/2 day before the release of a game is just highway to waste a game.
And it's not necesarly Steam fault wanting game to have hype for a long time, it's simply the best compromise Steam found to allow any dev to still have sucess and pushing them forward without having it's store flood average player with trash game that don't interest anyone.

Absolutely ; and having played Cryptark a lot, I wanna add that there's a great "sandboxy approach" on how to deal with a level. The more you advance in a game, the more you need to get your head around what REALLY matters in terms of objectives priorization. Most of the time, you pick and choose but a few stuff from one derelict, so you don't waste money and resources. I don't know how this long-term startegy will impact Gunhead, but in Cryptark, it was really smth to take into account.
      Cheers

Cryptarch is still one of my favorite games. It was exactly in the sweet spot for me of challenging strategy and action, without becoming tedious or a chore. I loved the problem solving and decision making involved in the higher levels. I may pick this new game up, but I'm concerned the 3D won't give me the same experience. In the old game I ended up flying by map much of the time and this would be a completely different thing because of the depth dimension.

7:06 - I would say the main reason is that for the first game, 2D is MUCH easier to manage - you only need sprites (which are basically PNG images). If your first game is successful, you can make a 3D game now! That would be harder but it will look appealing for more players ;-)
2D is only annoying if you are trying to make a good lighting system or make something like Stronghold xD

Another mecha game that was fantastic was Phantom Crash/SLAI depending on the console it was on.
All the same the aim was done by your onboard ai, and obviusly they would onky lock on at a sertain range to enemies.
Manualy the weapons would fire to the right or left or realy low on the arms. And if somthing cloaked youd have to know your manual aim. Was a good time.

MY GOD WAS CRYPTARK AMAZING. For context of how that game plays you have your random gen campaign mode that is sort of a roguelike and the straight up roguelike mode. I am interested if GUNHEAD takes place after Cryptark or if it is a whole different story with a different crew. Again, for context in the first game when you get the ending, you and your crew screw over the political party that hired you and take a live alien organism they were after for yourself which then I can only assume the crew sell it on the black market. would need to look ending again but, I don't think they say what happens after you take the alien

Working with 2D is cheaper and faster, not more annoying. It's often based on existing platformer-templates, which can easily be tweaked or bought of the item shop. 3D gets more difficult and more expensive. 2D is just an isometric or parallax setup, but the objects are often still in 3D, usually smaller size/lower quality than in first person 3D.

If this is the full release, this is lost opportunities 101. It felt like a tech demo.
The cell shading is neat and a good trick for getting good framerates, however when you have flat light on textures with panels and rectangles that are painted on to geometries that are flat planes, where everything is the same dull greenish-tinted industrial gray, then quickly determining what is an element of a texture and what is a piece of geometry is not as snap-simple as it really ought to be.
Turrets don't rotate to point at you. Fine - but why make them turrets with obvious barrels and an apparent 'front' end if it is not actually the 'front'?
Powerups are a thin pinkish-purplely glowing rectangle. Fun? The weapons at least are apparently fully modeled and textured since they are displayed in front of you, so why not have them floating in the world? Why doesn't a gear pick up look like the gear being picked up? In a game ostensibly about salvage, there seems to be very little actual salvaging.
Every mission is to disable the brain? Every one? How about just stealing a drone manufactury or downloading records or star charts or .. anything else?
The lack of depth and customizability is a huge miss. It seems weapon loadout is the most that can be customized. Given that there are things like alarm systems, drones, "turrets", doors, interconnected systems, then why aren't there lock pickers, network scramblers, drone disablers or even reprogrammers, target system scramblers, etc.? If you selected your loadout and had to split your resource budget, say, FTL-style energy and MechWarrior-style weight and hardpoint, then you'd have a MUCH more engaging game. Maybe you can even run a smaller mech that is faster, but lighter so it can't field heavy weapons but it is harder to detect and target. Maybe if you run a smaller mech you can fit in to corridors, or even ducting, that larger mechs can't. Massive opportunities missed.
For that matter, why are ships a connection of massive gymnasium-sized pseudo-hangers with incredibly abbreviated walkways and random holes in the decking? This is obviously to serve the six-degrees concept, but it makes zero actual sense. If the ship was to be operated by humanoids, they'd have to have the basic abilities of a mech - be able to move in six degrees of freedom with minimal effort and still for some reason want only a single large door connecting rooms. Random holes in the middle of the floor are fine if you can float, so why have gravity? Internal layout makes very little sense. It is obviously a 'bot arena.
The basic gunplay looks workable. Splat's recoding software's volume control makes the ingame sounds almost impossible to hear well, so that does not help, but there doesn't seem to be any real spread, recoil, or general feel to the weapons.
There's certainly potential here, but that's all it is - potential. This is a tech demo with upgrades. It isn't really a game. Environments, missions, loadout and itemization, nearly everything seems to be at pre-alpha stage.

Something about this FPS version of the game doesn't have the same atmosphere as the 2D Cryptark. There appears to be this lack of flashiness/oomph/particle effects the first game had. The map system was also better in Cyptark. Really made the ships feel like this mess of tech. Will have to check out demo and see. I really loved the sheen of the first game. Surprised this didn't go with six degrees of freedom for the flight movement? Maybe different suits will offer different movement?

We usually play games like Borderlands 3/Wonderlands, Valheim, Don't Starve Together, Outriders, No Man's Sky. We aren't looking for any PvP, either. I figured asking here would get me the best results, as Splattercat is the most diverse gamer I know, and his community therefore is gonna be a group of "outside-the-box" thinkers. Thanks, all. Much appreciated. And Happy Halloween!

Gun may not fire right of the reticle, they might be converging at max range.

To be honest, I would have preferred a Cryptark II with a proper coop mode, like the one we know from Helldivers.

Like splat said crypt did not take off.
A good part of that is the game kinda looked and played like a flash game.
Changing to a sick fps may give it the chance to gain some recognitions

@@bombingthesky If the game was not commercially successful enough, then that is an understandable reason. However, the change to the FPS perspective made the game much more ordinary.
Apart from that, in my humble opinion, it doesn't look as high quality as its indirect predecessor. My desire to play it is limited.

Dunno. First game have her own style, characters and your ship drawn with love for details. This one looks like someone decided to make a cheap remake with basic 3D graphics. But I will be happy to acknowledge my mistake if the sequel turns out good.

Why can't we get Cryptark ported to switch? One of my favorite roguelikes in a sea of roguelikes that I own, and probably the one that stands out the most by being different from all the others and extremely fun...I just wanna be able to play it on the go. Wish there was something I could do to convince the devs to port it over. I own it on everything else I have, pc and consoles, but I would play it so much more on switch

it's not that 2D is annoying to work with, having fewer dimensions just makes things easier!
