I saw Eldar Djangirov perform when he was 23 and he has improved beyond imagination. Perfect interpretation of organized dissonance with these 3 brilliant musicians. And Henrik Linder is phenomenal 🎹🥁🎸🔥
That's a great point about the amazing capabilities of the human mind. I've never realized that's a large part of why I'm drawn to this type of music. These kind of musicians really push the boundries and pour all of their mental and technical ability into their music. It's almost surreal to watch what can be made from scratch.
Jeff, if you get a chance to hear Matt talk about writing this piece first as a drum exercise, later as an entire piece, it really amped my appreciation of what's going on here. I grew up with the BEST of rock and fusion spring out of jazz and blues and have seen more mind-boggling performances than I can remember... but the best and most adventurous musicians today are playing stuff that the greats of my life probably couldn't even have imagined. Your "Holy Shit!" reaction comes from a place of partial understanding and total appreciation which only those who have PAID ATTENTION FOR YEARS can access. THANK YOU! 🙏
Another great reaction! These guys definitely came out the gates swinging. I’m excited to see your reactions to the other videos they did. They leave you speechless every time‼️🔥💯
Apparently it was recorded in one live take as well (I think that was something Matt Garstka said somewhere). Absolutely insane. Henrik said in an interview that this was so hard he had nightmares about it in the weeks leading up to this recording. And while he felt was struggling with his bass line, Eldar at one point plays the same line with his left hand while improvising with his right. Totally crazy, haha.
Oh damn! You jumped straight into Vertigo! I was expecting Torque first! I was like planning on warning you about the other two and everything. 🤣 But yeah, Vertigo and Crazy Tweaks and the crazy ones. Torque is not quite as hectic, but my personal favorite, so make sure you get around to all of them!
@@StrateleStudios Also, Henrik has talked a few times about these sessions with GEM as being some of the (if not the) hardest stuff he's had to learn to play, if I recall correctly.
Oof... this is in the same ballpark as Hiromi Uehara with but less mercy (if that makes sense). They must have found a loophole to another musical dimension. I love this because it is so unique and clear, it really speaks to me like good trio Jazz does, the moves are interesting and it has dynamic variety. That precision!!! I heard them before and Henrik said that when he was asked by Eldar Djangirov to play that music, Henrik was so scared that he had nightmares - that tells something ;-) ...but... can they also play in 4/4? 😇
Awesome that you reacted to this video. When I first saw the video back in 2018, I think I may have watched it 100 times. What INCREDIBLE musicianship. I’ve reached out to Eldar and Matt a couple of times to see if an album or at least 1 live performance was going to happen - but crickets. Maybe you can ask Henrik?! :). Awesome reaction video btw…. You embodied how I felt when I first saw this (and their other 2 vids)
Thanks C M! These guys are no joke. Like I was saying I thought Henrik was amazing before I saw this then my opinion of him increased 10 fold after watching this! Wow. Ya, I don't really have much of a connection with Henrik (YET) like I do with Jonah otherwise I'd be happy to ask. :)
Yes so happy you found this. This is on another level and I found it through tracing what Henrik had done with others. Just amazing piece of music to bad they don't evolve it into more songs as there is just a few. Just by searching for Henrik you will find more good stuff that really blows your mind.
I’ve been fan of Eldar since 2010 and following him ever since. Too sad that he hasn’t been active in music/jazz scene for few years. I don’t know where he disappeared..
Yea Jeff. SOOOOO happy you finally got to this priceless collection, 1 down 2 to go. unfortunately there will be no album. Eldar is only 35!!! so mesmerizing to see Henrick held in serious captivity till his release form his capture at the end of the song, flawless!!!!!!
Eldar (new to me) is a BEAST. Matt is his usual inhuman self. And it's beyond cool to see Henrik do something so far from his more commercial (albeit excellent) stuff!
sometimes these reaction videos can be annoying, but as soon as I saw your dirty loops transcription book and 20th century harmony (great book), I knew you could be trusted 😂
What I hear between the lines is, that they are a proof that there is a God. Because he said: “Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.
I can’t remember which interview it was but I do remember Henrik saying he had nightmares working on this crazy project. 😆 I don’t blame him. Sounds like a bitch to practice and a nightmare to count. Incredibly well executed!
Amazing skills but the mix was less than stellar relative to Dirty Loops. I could see Henrik doing what appeared to be a great bass line BUT I could just barely hear him. Still I’m intrigued enough to want to check out more from them. Kudos again for continuing to find such brilliant talent!
Sorry... reminds ne of early John McLaughlin---a whole lot of extra notes added for the simple reason that he was able to technically perform them, and it did not really enhancing the music, which was pretty good without all the extra notes... Linder's contrabass could have the same problem, except that he is constantly throwing in innovative musical ideas to compliment his incredible technique.

what interview did he say that in?
Amazing musicianship, jaw dropping skills. Gives me a strong Tigran Hamasyan vibe with the complexity of that piece.
I need to look into that! 😊😊😊
Was about to say the same thing. Definitely Tigran inspired
Thanks for doing this request! Glad you enjoyed it!
My pleasure! 😊

This really push Henrik from what I’ve heard.
Fascinating! A lot of notes… 😁 Like some of the piano parts a lot. Think I never saw Henrik this focused!
And love the ”I surrender” 😂
Hahaha many MANY notes! 😂
Yes a strong Tigran Hamasyan vibe ( McCoyTyner too) : you should adore DRIP (Tigran Hamasyan - Drip (Berklee Middle Eastern Fusion Ensemble Studio Recording)).
Very cool! Yes!
Great reaction! You simply must look into the pianist, Eldar Djangirovs, compositions. He's amazing and somewhat unknown still imo.
I’m so floored by him!
Totally insane! This is way beyond human capabilities. It reminds me Chick Corea Electric band and Steps ahead.
Black midi vibes. So tight! Amazing musicianship.

I have yes! Very talented!
@@StrateleStudios Valeriy is very talented and he got many colabs with very good musicians including the mighty Frederico Malaman.
