you're brilliant bro. clicked on this vid randomly and only at the end did i see how many subs you got, was very confused hahaha. you should be way bigger man keep it up!
liked and subbed bro, im pretty sure most AAL fans are thinking and saying the same things you are all the time. We are a rare breed which is unfortunate because these guys deserve so much more.
your mistake is you tried to dissect Matt's playing while he's playing it. you need to take some time and smoke some weed and get in zen mode to actually dissect Animals As Leaders.
You're saying 6/8 and then you're counting 12, 123, 12, which is 7/8, no wonder you get confused. Whatever floats your boat, I guess. Matt does things to your head, though, agreed.
The way I count the notes is 1,2,1,2,3, etc. but that's not how I count the time. Later in the video I count what feels like 6/8 to me but then managed to wrap my head around counting it in 9/4, though I still think it's awkward. Like I say, I'm not a music theory guy. I never had the opportunity to go much deeper than basic theory so any knowledge I have on more advanced theory is an educated guess. Maybe I'll learn some theory on stream one of these nights lmao. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the extra knowledge BTW. I'm sitting in my living room counting it out and although I'm still a bit confused on the 7/8 thing, I see that by counting 6, you only get part of the way through the phrase. I'm definitely gonna have to take a deeper dive into time signatures. I'm obviously way off lmao
@@keyofweird The beginning is in 9/4 but it's easier to understand in 18/8. The crashes you were counting on are really just constant dotted qtr notes. Bass drum is playing 16th note patterns while the synth and later highhat plays constant eight notes. The underlying rhythm is based on 220 bpm eighth notes and that's why the song even starts with the synths playing steady eighths with Matt on the highhat
@@NeezMyDew I'm so sorry to ask for this but do you know of any book or video or website where I could get some advanced theory, maybe specifically rhythm based, knowledge? This is legitimately fascinating to me and I want to know more.
@@keyofweird Sorry I don't think there's a lot out there explaining complex rhythms or theory on how to write for drums, or I might just not know about them. If you want to find some complex rhythms you could always look at pro drumline music to get practice reading and understanding them like ruclips.net/video/6bDIPhOtSuM/видео.html Rhythm theory wise is just a lot of math. All complex rhythms can be broken down into simpler terms. This guy explains a great way to understand 9lets ruclips.net/video/cPpKGZcYWIY/видео.html You can also watch Matt Gartska or other drummers clinic or masterclass videos to learn new stuff
The Garstka Uncertainty Principle... a state of simultaneously drumming where you currently are and where you're going to be.
The man is an inter-dimensional space creature and no one will convince me otherwise!

Awww. Thanks, dude. I appreciate the kind words.

Thank you!

My girlfriend still won't forgive me...
LMAO "You were in the void"
He posted a video breaking down Monomyth, you should check it out!!
I can try but my music theory, especially around rhythm, is awful lmao
Love your streaming layout bro
Thank you! I've changed it up a bit since this but it's still got the vibe lol
IT'S OVER 9000 lmfaooo
I feel it in 9/4
You weirdo

And pump some iron to get the weed run properly in your system.
Nice! I love Reggie Watts
I do too! Lol
it's 9/4
But it feels so much better in 6/8 lmao
@@keyofweird Hahaha you don't really hear the 9/4 till like halfway through the song so I get the attachment
He plays sextuplets double bass patterns over the 9/4 that’s why it feels 6/8-ish
