    See cooking skillzzzzz..i hated making moimoi because of the enormous amount of time it takes me to remove the shafts.and really i dnt even knw the myth behind removing the shafts or maybe you just saw our mothers/grandmothers doing it and then we just followed.

    I'm from Bassa in Logo state. We have this kind of moi moi called "AKURU". You don't peel the beans but you make it without oil and then eat with oil or with pepper sauce. I think I'm gonna try this moi moi(without peeling the beans) and I'm sure my family won't have any issues eating it.Good job.

    Can I use any type of beans? Though this honey beans look much better Cos it doesn’t have those black peas in the middle.

But what kind of beans did you use which I can easily pick up from the store? Where I live, there are no African stores.       Hi, I used honey beans (oloyin), however you can use any type of beans make sure you soak it for hours to it gets soft and blend the beans until smooth. Thank you.

      +Gorgeous T-girl If you have not found what you want, Walmart has the very same black-eyed peas we get from Nigeria. It is so cheap, first time I saw it I bought so much thinking it was a promo.

      Vitamix, Blendtec and if those are out of your price range Ninja's are decent. Though it can't compare to a Vitamix or Blendtec. I own both a Vitamix and a Ninja. But the Vitamix will outlast any blender on the market.

    saved me. i stopped once cos of the shaft. i have huge allergies to (small holes) so the eye on the beans when it comes off it irritates me even right now as i type this and see the vision of the eye beans i am irritated !!!! but thank you. i will try this over the weekend.

      i think that will leave a lot of black dots on the moi moi. I tried it in akara, didn't like the look. Actually, it was washed but not properly done so...

    Historically the reason for soaking the beans is not to remove the skins but rather to remove the physic acid which is really bad for the stomach. So you should still smack the beans even if you want to keep the skins.

    Awesome recipe. I enjoy every bit of the video.I have also been cooking my moinmoin this way when I new the good part which is the fiber is what we give to our goats 🐐. I don’t care about taste if it’s nutritious and healthy for the body. By the way I love the ramekins , where did you get them? I heard foil is not healthy to some extent especially when heated.     I remember my growing up days when my mum used to make a special moimoi called apapa in ebira language, it looked very dark, i used to think it was because the beans wasn't peeled now seeing this I'm a bit confused.

      Maybe your mom used black eye beans. In Ghana, we make ours with the skin of the black eye beans on and it turns out dark. :)

      mizbel101 you are right. My mother also said it is the black eyed ones that turn black when used, either fried or cooked. Other types of cowpeas have become commonly used over the years.

      Hi, you would not taste the beans shaft. Make sure you blend the beans until it has a smooth consistency. No one will be able to tell the difference except you tell them. Thanks.
