I enjoyed the review mate. I'm still waiting for them to come out in New Zealand so I can give one a blast! I managed to see one when I was in Australia a couple of days ago.... IN LOVE!
For me personally they felt wooden, I’m used to breaks that are soft to a point then bite really hard. Brembo tend to feel that way, as do the stock breaks on my street triple R. The breaks on the mt10 were very linear. In tests I think the mt10 was able to stop quicker than its competitors at the time of release so that’s clearly not a bad thing. I guess it’s just down to personal preference. I do feel I should take the mt10 out again. I didn’t gel with it on this day, perhaps just because there were some things I didn’t expect, like the riding position, brakes etc I’m very clearly in the minority by saying I didn’t like it. Might try the SP and see how I feel.
Looking at the numbers is pretty pointless, the dynos all vary so much with so many other factors to take in to account.. ive ridden a bmw s1000r tuono gsx-s1000 and the MT10 is on par with the BMW in my opinion as far as performance goes.
I've seen the super naked comparison and the guy was able to stop quickly but it was hardly a scientific test. In my opinion the biting point is way off on this bike.
+Yar D Blah it's a good bike, no denying it. But just not for me. Never ridden a Ducati but it's definitely on my list, although I'm not so keen on the looks of the monster series. It's a shame because I really love how the MT-10 looks.
hi, everyone is not impressed by the brakes. didn't the manufacturer (yahama) test them before realasing it !!!!!!!!!!!! and can this be fixed in the aftermarket? and how? thx
Under performance tests the brakes perform perfectly well, it seems like the issue is to do with feedback. Most 1000cc sportsbikes have very high spec brakes such as brembo or tokiko which have a very specific feel. You can have brembo so fitted aftermarket but there would be a high cost in doing so.
Most of the Europeans seem to kick out around 135-140hp rear wheel hp (ktm, Ducati) with a claimed 160hp. So pretty much on par. BMW seems to kick out a little higher in the 150 range at a rated 160. Will see what some others come in at as more are tested.
Damn your fussy, I dont think the bike was designed for outright practcality, think 90 percent it was designed for fun and to put a smile on your face when you ride it how its ment to be ridden.. think you need to get it on some better roads where you can strech its legs a bit then you will apreciate it a bit more
The roads are fine around Kent, great in fact. although it was a bit busy that day. I do get your point and going by the reception this bike has received i am clearly in the minority, although i do believe there is an element of "emperors new clothes" after riding the S1000R a couple of weeks ago, its all personal preference, but i just cant honestly say that the yammie is even in the same league and on paper they are pretty much identical. I had no problems with the engine or the chassis, and i like the look of the bike as well as the seating position (if a little high) but damn those brakes belong on a 125, not a super naked. The seat is made of stone, and i hate the mirrors. the BMW is only one and a half? maybe a couple of grand more expensive but the components and equipment totally outclass this bike. if i was putting money down it would go on the bimmer 100%. that bike made me grin. if yamaha do an R version with electronic suspension, comfort seat and brembos ill certainly take one out again.
+Bobby Fett Totally agree with you but just saying, you can upgrade the mirrors and brakes and you can option in for the Comfort Seat. Just saying and I still prefer the bmw too
+Caleb Whitted yep totally agree, there is always the aftermarket rout, I just think Yamaha have cut too many corners in order to drive the price down. And I just can't gel with the stock bike.
I bought the MT-10 here in Australia. I am a taller dude at 6'4" and 120kg and it does handle incredibly well. I rode the S1000R and was not a fan at all. It felt too clinical. No raw fun. It depends on what people find satisfying I guess. I like the raw feel of the MT-10 with traction on 1 or 2 and throttle in Standard or A mode for throttle smoothing. You said you were not impressed with the brakes but did not exceed like 45mph in your video. Get the thing up around 100mph and see how it brakes to a stop. It has plenty. I guess once you have had Brembo you cannot accept anything else :S
haha, sorry mate im not going to be posting 100mph videos on UK public roads. Besides, its the bit between 0-60 that really excites me, and yes im used to brembos and the feedback and initial bite you get from them. If you need to be doing law breaking speeds to get the brakes to work then in my opinion they are the wrong brakes for a road bike. I like to ride spirited, who doesn't? but i have two kids and a wife and want to enjoy many more years of riding, so try and keep things under control and myself in check, i also dont fancy having to hand my licence back i absolutely LOVED the S1000R in fact id go so far as to say its the best bike ive ever ridden. what you would call clinical id call engineered to near perfection, and that is telling that i found the MT-10 loose and uninspiring. By saying i was underwhelmed by the MT-10 youd think i'd posted a video of me kicking a puppy, its clearly a very popular bike but im only being honest and its only MY opinion. i dont think its a bad bike, just that I didnt like it as it currently is.

On mine a set of brembo pads sorted the issue out!
What is the difference between brembo and stock brakes? If they can lock your wheels there good enough I think.

go to the fast bikes page, they tested it at 139 so you pay your money and take your pick.

The brake feel is odd yes but it brakes better then the duke or the bmwer .

+Bobby Fett I kinda agree with your review..speed isn't everything..I preferred the monster 1200s when I took both out

If you have anymore influence to Yamaha than I do, tell the we want blue here in the states.
what's the song?

Bobby Fett thanks.
In the real world 139 bhp at the rear wheel is loads of power. Anyone who thinks differently doesn't do much riding on normal roads....
it's just been dynoed at 139bhp so to me a deal breaker.
Have you ridden one, 139 hp at rear wheel doesnt seem to bad to me out the crate.. go ride one, you wont think it needs any more
Rode one at a test event, bikes to high for me anyway and not so sure about the looks, looks like Stevie wonders put it together.
+Gerald Dyas mcn got 152 on their dyno, speed triple 128 and the BMW at 158 bhp

keep comparing it to am s1000 dude it's 5k cheaper you can't really compare the two.
S1000R is from £10,350
Sry for that, but this is just another ugly Japan Bike, like most of them, they had better looking Machines back in Time.
