True to form, David is one of the few who truly grasps how to use the plugin and teaches how to utilize it properly. There's been a lot of hype and reviews from people literally using the plugin incorrectly, employing the RE-MIC mode when they should be using the REVERB mode. Universal Audio has paid handsomely for this collaboration, and I see channels creating promotional videos without even reading the manual. It goes unnoticed because these channels have a massive number of subscribers. Learn from David, take notes. I'm not trying to brown-nose David; I'm simply stating the truth
I'm doing a serious project w a killer singer-I just bought this in a UAD bundle 2 sale, THEN I watched This video! Lol I see "Includes Paid Promotion" I say GOOD! Let UAD pay David to learn it like the pro he is, & teach it to us so generously on RUclips! David-THANK YOU brother! You saved us sound city owners hours of headache. 🙏🏼
I picked this up yesterday and played around with it with some live guitars and was absolutely blown away, I’m a bout to do a huge project for a new Television show, and this along with the Motown plugin’s will play a big role cause I’m redoing classic songs from 68-69 just like the original version
The only thing is why they didn’t make this in dsp version and only native. This is why I invested in 2 octo satellites 📡 and an 8xp so I could free up my computer as much as possible.
Been hoping for UA to make this since Ocean Way Studios was released. It's the first UA plugin that has gotten me excited since Capitol Chambers. And they really delivered!
This plugin was an instant buy. It will change the way I will mix from now on because the first step for many channels will be to see how this plugin will enhance the sound. Make a dry and possibly through Di recorded acoustic guitars more roomy, like recorded with mics instead of DI. Or create a better room sound for the drums, one with more body and power. Maybe enhance the backing vocals by using the encode setting on the compressor. The possibilities are endless, even with the mics alone.
This is the type of vst, I didn't think I needed but truly has been a game changer for me : ) I love the results from it, Pianoteq 8 sounds amazing going through it. This is a good step forward, i'm really liking UAD's shift in the last year.
What a great idea! Pianoteq has always impressed me, but putting it in a “real” space with a plug-in like this could really make all the difference in selling the realism of its acoustic modeling. What virtual space or mode did you find worked best with it? Acoustic? Ensemble Strings?
Acoustic, I find works well. I Also use Eventide Blackhole or Valhalla shimmer on a send to give it more magic for certain styles like cinematic or ambient @@tronam
awaited your take on this plugin, for I trust your judgment as opposed to other RUclips reviewers...this video is in the queue...I am a Universal Audio fanatic, software and hardware alike...look forward to your delving into this plugin, thank you for the share
I was SO not interested in this as I make mostly electro-pop but I was as blown away as you and, as a sound-designer, spaces fascinate me and it works great on synths and drum machines too. It's also great for using as a pre-delay and combining it with a bigger space. There's an amazing documentary by Dave Grohl on the studio which is here on RUclips and well worth watching. It's currently only $39, which is a pretty fab deal. Their 'Hitsville' Motown reverb is amazing too
Any recommendations for recording with the intent of using the remic features in this software? What’s the optimal situation, like some kind of detailed but neutral mic in an acoustically dead space?
Although the kick sounds huge listening to the kit in stereo, it does not translate well in a mix. You'll end up rolling off the reverb somewhere 200-400Hz. I can achieve more pleasing results with my outboard, hardware reverbs.
Finally a good demo. Am such an ambience reverb nut, this sounds as good as IR ambience, but so much more flexible. btw, Overloud has a really nice emulation of that Dolby piece for use as a treble exciter, if anybody just wants that separately.
Seems like a better version of Ocean Way Studio. Unless you really like Ocean Way Studios! I wish OWS had separate compression and console emulations and reverb like this new one. I don't think I've ever seen a reverb with another reverb in it?
Sounds great, the legendary drum sound of sound city in the daw, worth the price of entry on its own…. One thing though, I’m getting distracted by that resonance poking through on the acoustic guitar.
David you need to check out TB Pro Audio CS-5501. Not fancy looking but omg if you put it on every channel you wouldn't need much more most of the time.

So for drums as a room only. Put the plugin on the drum buss? Or send it to aux than blend the room sound to the original signal? I have a small drum room want to capture room only but not re-mic. Awesome tutorial as usual. Your thoughts on modeling microphones from uad ?
I record my drums in a cruddy sounding room with inexpensive mics. I insert Sound City right on the overhead stereo channel in remic mode using the C414's.
